Influence of Prior Austenite Deformation and Non-Metallic Inclusions on Ferrite Formation in Low-Carbon Steels

Effects of prior austenite deformation and non-metallic inclusions on the ferrite nucleation and grain refine- ment of two kinds of low-carbon steels have been studied. The ferrite nucleation on MnS and V（C, N） is observed. The combination of thermomeehanical processes with adequate amounts of non-metallic inclusions formed in low-car- bon steels could effectively refine the grain size and the microstructure. Ferrite nucleated on the single MnS or V（C, N） inclusions and complex MnS＋V（C,N） inclusion. The proper addition of elements S and V could effectively promote the formation of ferrite and further refinement of ferrite grains.

Crosslinking reaction of LDPE resin in the presence of dicumyl peroxide （DCP） was studied by isothermal rheological measurements at different temperatures and non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） technique with different heating rates. The kinetic parameters of crosslinking reaction were calculated by both rheological and DSC measurements. The results reveal that with the increase of DCP contents, the apparent activation energy, Ea, ranges from about 140 kJ/mol to 170 kJ/mol and the order of crosslinking reaction, n, approaches unity. The influence of measurement frequency, on crosslinking reaction was also investigated. It can be found that n does not change with the increase of ωand Ea decreases slightly with the increase of ω

Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell transplantation combined with hyperbaric oxygen treatment for repair of traumatic brain injury

Transplantation of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells（UC-MSCs） for repair of traumatic brain injury has been used in the clinic. Hyperbaric oxygen（HBO） treatment has long been widely used as an adjunctive therapy for treating traumatic brain injury. UC-MSC transplantation combined with HBO treatment is expected to yield better therapeutic effects on traumatic brain injury. In this study, we established rat models of severe traumatic brain injury by pressurized fluid（2.5–3.0 atm impact force）. The injured rats were then administered UC-MSC transplantation via the tail vein in combination with HBO treatment. Compared with monotherapy, aquaporin 4 expression decreased in the injured rat brain, but growth-associated protein-43 expression, calaxon-like structures, and CM-Dil-positive cell number increased. Following combination therapy, however, rat cognitive and neurological function significantly improved. UC-MSC transplantation combined with HBO therapyfor repair of traumatic brain injury shows better therapeutic effects than monotherapy and significantly promotes recovery of neurological functions.

Objective Allergic disease caused by airborne pollen is a major health problem in China. Intensive study on pollen allergens can be of great help for preventing and treating pollinosis. Four aspects of the study on pollen allergens in China including major allergic pollen in our country, analysis and purification of pollen allergen composition, recombinant pollen allergens and clinical application of pollen allergens are described in this paper.

Puerarin ameliorates allodynia and hyperalgesia in rats with peripheral nerve injury

Puerarin is a major active ingredient of the traditional Chinese plant medicine,Radix Puerariae,and commonly used in the treatment of myocardial and cerebral ***,the effects of puerarin on neuropathic pain are still *** this study,a neuropathic pain animal model was created by partial sciatic nerve ***（30 or 60 mg/kg） was intraperitoneally injected once a day for 7 *** allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia were examined at 1 day after model *** threshold and paw withdrawal latency markedly increased in a dose-dependent manner in puerarin-treated rats,especially at 7 days after model *** 7 days after model establishment,quantitative real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction results showed that puerarin administration reversed m RNA expression of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1（Trpv1） and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1（Trpa1） in a dose-dependent manner in dorsal root ganglion neurons after peripheral nerve *** results suggest that puerarin dose-dependently ameliorates neuropathic pain by suppressing Trpv1 and Trpa1 up-regulation in dorsal root ganglion of neuropathic pain rats.

The etiology and the underlying mechanism of CD4＋ T-cell polarization are unclear. This study sought to investigate the mechanism by which interleukin （IL）-13 prevents the activation-induced apoptosis of CD4＋ T cells. Here we report that CD4＋ T cells expressed IL-13 receptor a2 in the intestine of sensitized mice. IL-13 suppressed both the activation-induced apoptosis of CD4＋ T cells and the expression of p53 and FasL. Exposure to recombinant IL-13 inhibited activation-induced cell death （AICD） along with the expression of p53, caspase 3, and tumor necrosis factor-a in CD4＋ T cells. Administration of an anti-lL-13 antibody enhanced the effect of specific immunotherapy on allergic inflammation in the mouse intestine, enforced the expression of p53 in intestinal CD4＋ T cells, and enhanced the frequency of CD4＋ T-cell apoptosis upon challenge with specific antigens. In summary, blocking IL-13 enhances the therapeutic effect of antigen-specific immunotheraov by regulating aDoptosis and thereby enforcing AICD in CD4＋ T cells.

Modification of closed tympanoplasty in middle ear cholesteatoma

Background Classic mastoidectomy and modified mastoidectomy are traditional surgical procedures for middle ear cholesteatoma with goals of eradicating diseases, creating dry ears and preventing severe complications. However, the drawback of these procedures is the lack of hearing improvement. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the effects and safety of a modification of closed tympanoplasty for middle ear cholesteatoma. Methods Eighty-three patients were recruited in this study based on the following two criteria： each patient had middle ear cholesteatoma in one ear; the affected ears had a functional eustachian tube and had neither intracranial nor extracranial complications. All the patients received a modification of closed tympanoplasty which included ossicular reconstruction with total ossicular replacement prosthesis （TORP） or partial ossicular replacement prosthesis （PORP） and membrane repair with conchal cartilage-perichondral complex. Results All the 83 cases had dry ears with membranes healed within 4-6 postoperative weeks. After 6 postoperative months, there were 3 cases with re-perforation at the tympanic membrane center and after 1.5 postoperative years, there were 5 cases with cholesteatoma recurrence （6.02%）. Function tests after one postoperative year exhibited an improvement of pure tone audiometry （PTA） in 27 cases that was more than 30 dB, in 33 cases between 20-29 dB, 14 cases with improvement between 10-19 dB, and in 9 cases there was no improvement. Conclusions The modified closed tympanoplasty procedure for middle ear cholesteatoma in the present study has all the advantages of both close-cavity and open-cavity procedures. It has low recurrence rate and good hearing improvement.
