Based on the Stokes signals of the spontaneous Raman backscattering,a demodulated method for the simultaneous distributed temperature measurement in an optical fiber is presented to improve the sensitivity of the *** experimental system of Stokes temperature sensor is set up and 2 km of operating length,1 m of distance resolution ,accuracy of ±0.1℃ are obtained.

Background Most epidermal cells used in skin tissue engineering are obtained from the skins of fetuses or prepuces, which can not be widely used in culturing and transplanting autologous epidermis for patients with extensive burn wounds. To solve the problem, in this study, we cultured epidermal cells from different parts of human body in vitro, and detected their growth activity. Methods Normal epidermal cells obtained from the prepuce, scalp, and axilla of male patients, were cultured and passaged. Their growth characteristics including adherent rate and growth activity were compared. Data were analyzed by homogeneity test of variance. Results In primary culture, the growth of epidermal cells from the prepuce was significantly faster than that of the epidermal cells from the scalp and axilla. In the cells obtained from the prepuce, 80% confluence was achieved on day 12, while on day 16 and day 20 in the cells from the scalp and axilla, respectively. However, no significant difference was detected in their growth and proliferation in the second passage. Conclusions Although the growth of epidermal cells obtained from the scalp and axilla is slower than that from the prepuce in primary culture, stable cell line can be established and used in preparation of auto-epidermal grafts for patients with extensive bum wounds. Therefore, the scalp and axillary skin should be considered as important sources of epidermal cells other than the prepuce.

Band gap characteristics of the photonic crystals in terahertz range with square lattice and triangular lattice of GaAs cylinders are comparatively studied by means of plane wave method （PWM）. The influence of the radius on the band gap width is analyzed and the critical values where the band gap appears are put forward. The results show that the maximum band gap width of photonic crystal with triangular lattice of GaAs cylinders is much wider than that of photonic crystal with square lattice. The research provides a theoretic basis for the development of terahertz （THz） devices.

BACKGROUND: Biliary atresia (BA) is the end results of an inflammatory process, which affect the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts, leading to fibrosis and obliteration of the biliary tract with the development of biliary cirrho- sis. Early diagnosis of BA is difficult, and there is no speci- fic therapy for BA at present. The purpose of this study was to investigate the diagnosis, treatment and postoperative outcome of BA and to explore new diagnostic and thera- peutic strategies. METHODS; Thirty-one children with biliary atresia from our hospital and 201 children with such disease from other hospitals in China were reviewed retrospectively in terms of diagnostic modalities, operative age, operative methods and long-term survival rates after operation. RESULTS : The operative age of the 31 patients varied from 13 to 270 days. It was 120 days in 3 ( 10% ). No children underwent transplantation for BA. Their 1-6 year survival rate on average was 32. 3% (10/31). The early operative rate in China was 12.9% (30/ 232). One child received liver transplantation with a long- term survival rate of 31.9%. CONCLUSIONS; Early recognition of babies with BA is critical for optimal intervention for preventing progressive fibrosis. Clinical presentation, imaging and laparoscopy are helpful in enhancing the early diagnostic rate of BA pa- tients. The long-term survival rates can be obtained after the improvement of operative methods, liver transplanta- tion for children with advanced BA, and development of other medical strategies.
