CO liberated from CORM-2 modulates the inflammatory response in the liver of thermally injured mice

AIM： To explore the effects of CO-releasing molecules [tricarbonyldichlororuthenium （Ⅱ） dimer, CORM-2]- liberated CO on attenuation of inflammatory responses in liver of an experimental animal model of thermal injury and to investigate the associated potential mechanisms. METHODS： Thirty-six mice were assigned to three groups in three respective experiments. In each experiment, mice in sham group （n = 4） received sham thermal injury, whereas mice in burn group （n = 4） received a 15% of total body surface area （TBSA） fullthickness thermal injury, and mice in burn ＋ CORM-2 group （n = 4） received the same thermal injury with immediate administration of CORM-2 （8 mg/kg, iv）. Hepatic tissue sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and examined under a light microscope. Levels of aminotransferases （ALT and AST） and nitric oxide （NO） were measured by biochemical methods. Tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α） and interleukin （IL-1β） activity, and the protein expression of iNOS and HO-1 in serum and tissue homogenates were assessed. In in vitro experiments, Kupffer cells were stimulated with LPS （10 μg/mL） for 4 h in the presence or absence of CORM-2 （10-100 μmol/L）. Subsequently, the expression levels of TNF-α and NO production were assessed. RESULTS： Pro-inflammatory mediators （TNF-α, IL- 1β, NO） in serum and liver homogenates of thermally injured mice were significantly reduced by CORM-2 administration. This was accompanied by a decrease in the expression of iNOS while an increase in the expression of HO-1 in the liver tissue. In parallel, the concentrations of TNF-α and NO in supernatants of LPS-stimulated Kupffer cells co-incubated with CORM-2 （10-100 μmol/L） were also markedly *** examination demonstrated that CORM-2 could attenuate the leukocytes infiltration to the liver tissue. A compact spice model of the phase change memory with the crystalline fraction as the switching by Verilog-A language is proposed and demonstrated. The model can simulate not only the resistance change by the different electrical pulse, but also the temperature profile and crystalline fraction during programming operation. The simulated resistance as a function of the amplitude of programming voltage pulses is in good agreement with the experimental data.

Non-monotonic behavior of jam probability and stretchedexponential distribution in pedestrian counterflow

We adopt a floor field cellular automata model to study the statistical properties of bidirectional pedestrian flow movingin a straight corridor. We introduce a game-theoretic framework to deal with the conflict of multiple pedestrians tryingto move to the same target location. By means of computer simulations, we show that the complementary cumulative distributionof the time interval between two consecutive pedestrians leaving the corridor can be fitted by a stretched exponentialdistribution, and surprisingly, the statistical properties of the two types of pedestrian flows are affected differently by theflow ratio, i.e., the ratio of the pedestrians walking toward different directions. We also find that the jam probability exhibitsa non-monotonic behavior with the flow ratio, where the worst performance arises at an intermediate flow ratio of around0.2. Our simulation results are consistent with some empirical observations, which suggest that the peculiar characteristicsof the pedestrians may attributed to the anticipation mechanism of collision avoidance.

An experimental investigation into the thermal conductivity of CF-SiC two-phase composite asphalt concrete is *** main objective of this study was to verify the possibility of using SiC powder instead of mineral powder as the thermal conductive filler to prepare a new type of asphalt concrete and improve the efficiency of electrothermal snow and ice melting systems *** thermal conductivity of asphalt concrete prepared with different thermally conductive fillers was tested by a transient plane source method,and the related performances were *** the temperature rise rate and surface temperature were studied through field heating ***,the actual ice melting efficiency of the thermally conductive asphalt concrete was evaluated using an effective electrothermal *** shown by the experimental results,the composite made of SiC powder and carbon fiber has a high thermal *** SiC replaces mineral powder,the thermal conductivity of the asphalt mixture increases first and then decreases with the increase of carbon fiber *** the present study,in particular,the thermal conductivity attained a peak when the carbon fiber content was 0.2%of the aggregate mass.

Energy partition in laser-induced cavitation bubbles near the rigid wall with a gas-containing hole

To investigate the energy partition in laser-induced cavitation bubbles near the rigid wall with a gas-containing hole,we utilized a nanosecond resolution photography system based on a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser and conventional industrial camera to carefully observe the transient process of bubble collapse near the rigid wall with a gas-containing *** analyzed the generation of collapse microjets and the emission of collapse shock *** found that the cavitation bubble near the rigid wall with a gas-containing hole collapsed at different times and space,and produced various types of shock *** on the far field pressure information of the shock waves measured by hydrophone,the energy of the shock waves generated by the bubble collapse near the rigid wall with a gas-containing hole is calculated for the first *** results show that the ratio of collapse shock wave energy to bubble energy is approximately between 0.7 and 0.8.

Bio-screening and quantification of methyl paraben in vinegar and coconut juice separated by HPTLC

As a widely used food preservative,methyl paraben was experimentally evidenced with serious hormonelike adverse ***,a high performance thin-layer chromatography platformed bioluminescent bioautography and image analysis for the selective quantification and confirmation of methyl paraben was proposed and validated in vinegar and coconut ***,the detectability of the bioautography to the analyte on different layer materials was estimated,revealing that normal silica gel was the best *** that,the liquid of sample extract and working solution were separated to overcome the background noises due to co-extracted *** separation result was then coupled to the optimized bioautography,enabling instant and straightforward screening of the targeted *** accurate quantification,bioluninescent inhibition pattern caused by the analyte was processed by image analysis,giving useful sensitivity(LOD>16 mg/kg),precision(RSD<10.1%)and accuracy(spike-recovery rate 76.9%-112.2%).Finally,the suspected result was confirmed by determining its MS fingerprint,further strengthening the reliability of screening.
