Based on the covariant density functional theory,by employing the core–quasiparticle coupling(CQC)model,the nuclear level density of odd-A nuclei at the saddle point is achieved.The total level density is calculated via the convolution of the intrinsic level density and the collective level density.The intrinsic level densities are obtained in the finite-temperature covariant density functional theory,which takes into account the nuclear deformation and pairing self-consistently.For saddle points on the free energy surface in the(β_(2),γ)plane,the entropy and the associated intrinsic level density are compared with those of the global minima.By introducing a quasiparticle to the two neighboring even–even core nuclei,whose properties are determined by the five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian model,the collective levels of the odd-A nuclei are obtained via the CQC model.The total level densities of the^(234-240)U agree well with the available experimental data and Hilaire’s result.Furthermore,the ratio of the total level densities at the saddle points to those at the global minima and the ratio of the total level densities to the intrinsic level densities are discussed separately.

COVID-19 and its impact on society have raised concerns about scaling up mechanical ventilation(MV)systems and the energy consequences.This paper attempted to combine MV and portable air cleaners(PACs)to achieve acceptable indoor air quality(IAQ)and energy reduction in two scenarios:regular operation and mitigating the spread of respiratory infectious diseases(RIDs).We proposed a multi-objective optimization method that combined the NSGA-II and TOPSIS techniques to determine the total equivalent ventilation rate of the MV-PAC system in both scenarios.The concentrations of PM_(2.5) and CO_(2) were primary indicators for IAQ.The modified Wells-Riley equation was adopted to predict RID transmissions.An open office with an MV-PAC system was used to demonstrate the method’s applicability.Meanwhile,a field study was conducted to validate the method and evaluate occupants’perceptions of the MV-PAC system.Results showed that optimal solutions of the combined system can be obtained based on various IAQ requirements,seasons,outdoor conditions,etc.For regular operation,PACs were generally prioritized to maintain IAQ while reducing energy consumption even when outdoor PM_(2.5) concentration was high.MV can remain constant or be reduced at low occupancies.In RID scenarios,it is possible to mitigate transmissions when the quanta were<48 h^(−1).No significant difference was found in the subjective perception of the MV and PACs.Moreover,the effects of infiltration on the optimal solution can be substantial.Nonetheless,our results suggested that an MV-PAC system can replace the MV system for offices for daily use and RID mitigation.

Background: Juvenile amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (JALS) is an uncommon form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis whose age at onset (AAO) is defined as prior to 25 years. FUS mutations are the most common cause of JALS. SPTLC1 was recently identified as a disease-causative gene for JALS, which has rarely been reported in Asian populations. little is known regarding the difference in clinical features between JALS patients carrying FUS and SPTLC1 mutations. This study aimed to screen mutations in JALS patients and to compare the clinical features between JALS patients with FUS and SPTLC1 mutations. Methods: Sixteen JALS patients were enrolled, including three newly recruited patients between July 2015 and August 2018 from the Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Mutations were screened by whole-exome sequencing. In addition, clinical features such as AAO, onset site and disease duration were extracted and compared between JALS patients carrying FUS and SPTLC1 mutations through a literature review. Results: A novel and de novo SPTLC1 mutation (c.58G>A, p.A20T) was identified in a sporadic patient. Among 16 JALS patients, 7/16 carried FUS mutations and 5/16 carried respective SPTLC1 , SETX , NEFH , DCTN1 , and TARDBP mutations. Compared with FUS mutation patients, those with SPTLC1 mutations had an earlier AAO (7.9 ± 4.6 years vs. 18.1 ± 3.9 years, P < 0.01), much longer disease duration (512.0 [416.7-607.3] months vs. 33.4 [21.6-45.1] months, P < 0.01), and no onset of bulbar. Conclusion: Our findings expand the genetic and phenotypic spectrum of JALS and help to better understand the genotype-phenotype correlation of JALS.

The screening of colorectal cancer(CRC)is pivotal for both the prevention and treatment of this disease,significantly improving early-stage tumor detection rates.This advancement not only boosts survival rates and quality of life for patients but also reduces the costs associated with treatment.However,the adoption of CRC screening methods faces numerous challenges,including the technical limitations of both noninvasive and invasive methods in terms of sensitivity and specificity.Moreover,socioeconomic factors such as regional disparities,economic conditions,and varying levels of awareness affect screening uptake.The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic further intensified these challenges,leading to reduced screening participation and increased waiting periods.Additionally,the growing prevalence of early-onset CRC necessitates innovative screening approaches.In response,research into new methodologies,including artificial intelligence-based systems,aims to improve the precision and accessibility of screening.Proactive measures by governments and health organizations to enhance CRC screening efforts are underway,including increased advocacy,improved service delivery,and international cooperation.The role of technological innovation and global health collaboration in advancing CRC screening is undeniable.Technologies such as artificial intelligence and gene sequencing are set to revolutionize CRC screening,making a significant impact on the fight against this disease.Given the rise in early-onset CRC,it is crucial for screening strategies to continually evolve,ensuring their effectiveness and applicability.

Physicochemical properties and structure of titania-containing metallurgical slags: a review

The titanium industry can hardly bypass the titania-containing slags,and the slag physicochemical properties are essential in the metallurgical reactor design and process control.The TiO_(2)–FeO-based slags and TiO_(2)–SiO_(2)–CaO-based slags are the main metallurgical slag systems in the titanium resource utilization processes.To elaborate the role of TiO_(2) in the physicochemical properties of titania-containing metallurgical slags,the physicochemical properties including titanium redox ratio,liquidus temperature,viscosity,electrical conductivity,density,surface tension,thermal conductivity,and sulfide capacity were critically reviewed.Moreover,the property prediction models were briefly introduced with regards to the limitations of the existing models.The property prediction models are still required to evolve since not all properties of titania-containing slags can be well modeled.As the slag structure has an intimate relationship with slag properties,the structural details of the titania-containing slag were investigated by using a combination of spectroscopic technologies,but the knowledge of the slag structure was not fully ascertained.The potential research fields related to the physicochemical properties and structure of the titania-containing slags were also suggested.

Enhanced photocatalytic performance by regulating the Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)ratio in cerium dioxide

Cerium dioxide(CeO_(2))photocatalysts are used in treating environmental pollution and addressing the energy crisis due to their excellent oxygen storage capacities and abundant oxygen vacancies.In this paper,CeO_(2)precursors were synthesized with different water-alcohol ratios via a solvothermal method,and CeO_(2)photocatalysts with different Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)ratios were obtained by changing the precursor calcination atmospheres(air,Ar)as well as the calcination time.The effects of CeO_(2)with different Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)ratios in photocatalytic degradations of methylene blue under visible light were investigated.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed that the surfaces of the samples calcined under Ar had higher Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)ratios and oxygen vacancy concentrations,which reduced the band gaps of the catalysts and improved their utilization of visible light.In addition,the many Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)redox centers and oxygen vacancies on the sample surfaces improved the separation and transfer efficiencies of the photogenerated carriers.The sample C2-Ar calcined under Ar showed a high adsorption capacity and excellent photocatalytic activity by removing 96%of the methylene blue within 120 min,which was more than twice the degradation rate of the sample(C2-air)prepared via calcination under air.Trapping experiments showed that photogenerated holes played a key role in the photocatalytic process.In addition,a synergistic photocatalytic mechanism for the Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)redox centers and oxygen vacancies was elucidated in detail,and the sensitization of cerium dioxide by dyes aided the degradation of methylene blue.

With advances in the field of interventional cardiology,percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)has become one of the main treatment methods for patients with coronary artery disease in clinical practice.^([1])Routine interventional therapy is performed under fluoroscopic guidance,and interventional cardiologists are therefore often exposed to radiation.As a result,the risks of cancer,cataract,hair loss and loss of skin pigmentation will be significantly incre-ased after long-term radiation exposure.

In this rapidly developing society,it is always crucial to exploit new materials with suitable properties to meet specific application demands.Two-dimensional(2 D)transition metal carbon/nitrides(MXenes)are a novel graphene-like material with exciting research potential in recent years.Among them,Ti_(3)C_(2)debuts in a central position due to its relatively longer research history,mature synthetic process,and incredibly rich store of merits,such as good flexibility,large specific surface area,abundant termination groups,excellent electrical conductivity,and light-to-heat conversion ability.In this review,recent research progress on Ti_(3)C_(2)MXene and its composites was updated mainly from three aspects,including their fundamentals,synthesis,and applications.It has been found that diverse applications of Ti3 C2-based composites are inseparable and correlated with each other,which were linked by their unique physicochemical properties.In the end,a summary and a perspective on future opportunities and challenges of Ti_(3)C_(2)were given to offer theoretical and technical guidelines for further investigation on MXene family.

Heterosis and heterotic patterns of maize germplasm revealed by a multiple-hybrid population under well-watered and drought-stressed conditions

Understanding the heterosis in multiple environments between different heterotic groups is of fundamental importance in successful maize breeding. A total of 737 hybrids derived from 41 maize inbreds were evaluated over two years, with the aim of assessing the genetic diversity and their performance between heterotic groups under drought-stressed(DS) and well-watered(WW) treatments. A total of 38 737 SNPs were employed to assess the genetic diversity. The genetic distance(GD) between the parents ranged from 0.05 to 0.74, and the 41 inbreds were classified into five heterotic groups. According to the hybrid performance(high yield and early maturity between heterotic groups), the heterosis and heterotic patterns of Iowa Stiff Stalk Synthetic(BSSS)×Non-Stiff Stalk(NSS), NSS×Sipingtou(SPT) and BSSS×SPT were identified to be useful options in China’s maize breeding. The relative importance of general and specific combining abilities(GCA and SCA) suggests the importance of the additive genetic effects for grain yield traits under the WW treatment, but the non-additive effects under the DS treatment. At least one of the parental lines with drought tolerance and a high GCA effect would be required to achieve the ideal hybrid performance under drought conditions. GD showed a positive correlation with yield and yield heterosis in within-group hybrids over a certain range of GD. The present investigation suggests that the heterosis is due to the combined accumulation of superior genes/alleles in parents and the optimal genetic distance between parents, and that yield heterosis under DS treatment was mainly determined by the non-additive effects.
