AIM: To establish a luciferase reporter cell line that responds dioxin-like chemicals (DLCs) and on this basis to evaluate its characteristics and application in the determination of ***: A recombinant luciferase reporter plasmid was constructed by inserting dioxin-responsive element (DREs)and MMTV promoter segments into the pGL3-promoter plasmid immediately upstream of the luciferase gene, which was structurally demonstrated by fragment mapping analysis in gel electrophoresis and transfected into the human hepatoma cell line HepG2, both transiently and stably, to identify the inducible expression of luciferase by 2, 3, 7, 8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). The time course,responsive period, sensitivity, structure-inducibility and doseeffect relationships of inducible luciferase expression to DLCs was dynamically observed in HepG2 cells stably transfected by the recombinant vector (HepG2-Luc) and compared with that assayed by ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) in non-transfected HepG2 cells (HepG2-wt).RESULTS: The inducible luciferase expression of HepG2-Luc cells wa s noted in a time-, dose-, and AhR-dependent manner, which peaked at 4 h and then decreased to a stable level at 14 h after TCDD treatment. The responsiveness of HepG2-Luc cells to TCDD induction was decreased with culture time and became undetectable at 10th month of HepG2-Luc cell formation. The fact that luciferase activity induced by 3, 3', 4, 4′-PCB in HepG2-Luc cells was much less than that induced by TCDD suggests a structureinducibility relationship existing among DLCs. Within the concentrations from 3.5× 10-12 to 5× 10-9 mol/L, significant correlations between TCDD doses and EROD activities were observed in both HepG2-luc and HepG2-wt cells. The correlation between TCDD doses from 1.1×10-13 to 1×10-8 mol/L and luciferase activities was also found to be significant in HepG2-luc cells (r=0.997, P＜0.001), but not in their HepG2-wt counterparts. Molecular dynamics simulations of helium transport through inorganic mineral nanopores

Helium transport through nanoscale inorganic mineral pores and pore throats is essential for its overall migration. To elucidate helium's transport dynamics within nanopores, we employed equilibrium and non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations to investigate helium's static self-diffusion and pressure-driven flow in quartz slit-shaped nanopores. We also introduced water and various gases, including hydrogen, methane, ethane, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, into the nanopores to assess their influence on helium transport. Our findings indicate minimal helium adsorption on quartz pore surfaces. Under conditions where the pore size is less than 5 nm and the pressure under 10 MPa, environmental factors markedly influence helium diffusion. Large pore sizes, high temperatures, and low gas pressures enhance helium desorption and facilitate faster diffusion. We observed a positive correlation between helium flow velocity and factors such as pore size, pressure gradient, and surface smoothness of the pores. Notably, the presence of pore water and carrier gases in quartz nanopores, which diffuse more slowly than helium, tends to reduce helium surface adsorption and slow its diffusion. Among the carrier gases studied, nitrogen showed similar adsorption capacity, diffusivity, and stability to helium, while carbon dioxide displayed the highest adsorption capacity and the slowest diffusion rate, markedly differing from helium. Based on the simulation results, we concluded that water and carrier gases primarily function as transport mediums in helium migration, moving together with helium. Nitrogen, which shares similar properties with helium, effectively assists in this co-migration process. Conversely, carbon dioxide, due to its high adsorption capacity and slow diffusion, tends to be lost during co-migration. Multiphysics simulation and optimization of the in-situ beneficiation process of ilmenite minerals from lunar regolith

The exploration and utilization of lunar resources have become the major objectives of future lunar exploration missions. The classified collection and processing of lunar minerals is the basic prerequisite for the in-situ exploration and utilization of lunar resources. In this study, we propose a scheme for in-situ separation of magnetic minerals from lunar soils using the dry magnetic separation method. The scheme can realize the purpose of separating magnetic minerals from lunar regolith by altering the motion trajectory of lunar regolith particles with different magnetic properties. Detailed modeling of the dry magnetic separation device is conducted, and the three-dimensional distribution of magnetic parameters is calculated and analyzed. Based on the characterization and analysis of the Chang E-5's samples, the morphologies and physical parameters of lunar regolith particles are modeled and simulated. A discrete element simulation of the motion process of lunar regolith particles under multi-physical field conditions is performed, and the influences of key parameters on the beneficiation performance of lunar magnetic minerals are investigated. Our results indicate that optimal separation and beneficiation of lunar regolith particles can be achieved under specific conditions of magnetic field strength and drum speed. Additionally, we analyze the effects of lunar weak gravity conditions and the charged nature of lunar particles on the beneficiation process, showing that these factors can obviously enhance the beneficiation process of lunar ilmenites. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using the dry magnetic separation method for the beneficiation of magnetic minerals from lunar regolith, providing a theoretical basis for the scientific tasks of collecting, processing, and utilizing lunar mineral resources.

The high-value utilization of industrial solid waste using a facile and eco-friendly process is of great interest and significance in reducing environmental pollution and developing a green circular economy. Herein, we propose an amyloid-mediated molecular engineering strategy to transform particulate waste into valuable adsorbents for metal ions. Our method has the advantage of aqueous solution fabrication under mild conditions without the use of high-temperature hydrothermal methods and toxic chemical reagents. Amyloid-mediated molecular engineering manipulates the phase transition of bovine serum albumin(BSA)on particulate waste surfaces, resulting in a remarkable ～3.1 times improvement in the adsorption capacity of fly ash, a typical industrial solid waste for gold ions after modification with the phase-transitioned BSA(PTB). The resultant adsorption ability was 69–1,980 times higher than those of conventional and emerging adsorbent materials such as ion exchange resins, activated carbon(AC), covalent organic frameworks(COFs), and metal-organic frameworks(MOFs). We further demonstrated the application of our PTB-modified materials in the recovery of precious metals from low-grade gold ore and electronic waste leachates. Consequently, this strategy could increase the value of waste materials nearly 27 times. In addition, this method is generally extendable to other conventional industrial adsorbents such as resin, clay, and Al2O3, and enhances their adsorption capabilities at least twofold. Overall, this work provides a simple and green approach for improving the adsorption performance of solid particles, and is expected to develop into a universal strategy for transforming waste particles into high-value-added products.

The introduction of automated vehicles (AVs) is expected to improve the safety and traffic efficiency of the transportation system. However， the impacts of AVs on pedestrian-vehicle interactions (PVIs) remain unclear， especially under the mixed traffic flow condition with AVs and conventional vehicles (CVs). The objective of this paper is to investigate PVIs under AV mixed traffic flow at unsignalized mid-block crosswalk (UMC) where the right of way competition exists and the traffic conditions are more complex. An agent-based simulation model is proposed to evaluate the safety and traffic efficiency under a diverse range of different scenarios. Some agents’ behavioral parameters are calibrated from trajectory and video data collected at two sites in Nanjing. The proposed model is also validated by comparing Post-Encroachment Time (PET) and pedestrian waiting time outputted from simulation with those extracted from empirical data. The simulation results suggest that the introduction of AVs has limited effect on both safety and efficiency levels at UMC under the low AV penetration rate. Compared to the negotiated yielding strategy of AVs， the conservative yielding strategy performs better in terms of pedestrian safety， but worse in improving traffic efficiency. Moreover， the results reveal that pedestrian and vehicle volumes， the proportion of pedestrians familiar with AVs， and the proportion of risk-prone pedestrians could significantly affect the safety and efficiency levels at UMC. Lastly， we provide some practical recommendations for determining treatments for mid-block crosswalks with AV mixed traffic flow to improve pedestrian safety and traffic efficiency.
