Stromal thrombospondin 1 suppresses angiogenesis in oral submucous fibrosis

A decline in mucosal vascularity is a histological hallmark of oral submucous fibrosis (OSF), a premalignant disease that is largely induced by betel quid chewing. However, the lack of available models has challenged studies of angiogenesis in OSF. Here, we found that the expression of thrombospondin 1 (THBS1), an endogenous angiostatic protein, was elevated in the stroma of tissues with OSF. Using a fibroblast-attached organoid (FAO) model, the overexpression of THBS1 in OSF was stably recapitulated in vitro. In the FAO model,treatment with arecoline, a major pathogenic component in areca nuts, enhanced the secretion of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 by epithelial cells, which then promoted the expression of THBS1 in fibroblasts. Furthermore, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs)were incorporated into the FAO to mimic the vascularized component. Overexpression of THBS1 in fibroblasts drastically suppressed the sprouting ability of endothelial cells in vascularized FAOs (v FAOs). Consistently, treatment with arecoline reduced the expression of CD31in v FAOs, and this effect was attenuated when the endothelial cells were preincubated with neutralizing antibody of CD36, a receptor of THBS1. Finally, in an arecoline-induced rat OSF model, THBS1 inhibition alleviated collagen deposition and the decline in vascularity in vivo. Overall, we exploited an assembled organoid model to study OSF pathogenesis and provide a rationale for targeting THBS1.

Effect of screening colonoscopy frequency on colorectal cancer mortality in patients with a family history of colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer is a common malignant tumor in China,and its incidence in the elderly is increasing *** bowel disease is a group of chronic non-specific intestinal inflammatory diseases,including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s *** included the clinicopathological and follow-up data of patients with colorectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic colectomy or open.colectomy at our Gastrointestinal Department between January 2019 and December *** indicators,oncological indicators,and survival rates were compared between the *** results of 104 patients who met the above criteria were extracted from the database(laparoscopic colectomy group=63,open.colectomy group=41),and there were no statistically significant differences in the baseline data or follow-up time between the two *** Intraoperative blood loss,time to first ambulation,and time to first fluid intake were significantly lower in the laparoscopic colectomy group than in the open.colectomy *** differences in overall mortality,tumor-related mortality,and recurrence rates between the two groups were not statistically significant,and survival analysis showed that the differences in the cumulative overall survival,tumor-related survival,and cumulative recurrence-free rates between the two groups were not statistically *** In elderly patients with colorectal cancer,laparoscopic colectomy has better short-term outcomes than open.colectomy,and laparoscopic colectomy has superior long-term survival outcomes compared with open.colectomy.

Electrical switching of a single-molecule junction provides a practical module to perform sophisticated operations in electronic ***,designing an all-electrically-driven molecular switch is a great ***,we experimentally and theoretically investigated the charge transport characteristics of isoindigo(ISO)-molecules at the single-molecule level using the scanning tunneling microscope break junction *** find that the single-molecule junctions of ISO-molecules display bias voltage-driven switching *** switches are realtime,reversible,and nondestructive under low-bias *** results show that the mechanism of the switch is not the transition from nonresonant charge transport to resonant charge transport,but it is the shift of the frontier orbital energy levels of ISO-molecules and the change of the interfacial electronic coupling with bias *** results will advance the design of high-performance bias voltage-driven molecular switches.

Internal limiting membrane peeling combined with silicone oil or air tamponade for highly myopic foveoschisis

Polydatin ameliorates hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury by modulating macrophage polarization

Experimental study of population density using an optimized random forest model

Random forest model is the mainstream research method used to accurately describe the distribution law and impact mechanism of regional *** took Shijiazhuang as the research area,with comprehensive zoning based on endowments as the modeling unit,conducted stratified sampling on a hectare grid cell,and systematically carried out incremental selection experiments of population density impact factors,optimizing the population density random forest model throughout the process(zonal modeling,stratified sampling,factor selection,weighted output).The results are as follows:(1)Zonal modeling addresses the issue of confusion in population distribution laws caused by a single *** on a grid cell not only ensures the quality of training data by avoiding the modifiable areal unit problem(MAUP)but also attempts to mitigate the adverse effects of the ecological *** sampling ensures the stability of population density label values(target variable)in the training sample.(2)Zonal selection experiments on population density impact factors help identify suitable combinations of factors,leading to a significant improvement in the goodness of fit(R^(2))of the zonal models.(3)Weighted combination output of the population density prediction dataset substantially enhances the model's robustness.(4)The population density dataset exhibits multi-scale superposition *** a large scale,the population density in plains is higher than that in mountainous areas,while on a small scale,urban areas have higher density compared to rural *** optimization scheme for the population density random forest model that we propose offers a unified technical framework for uncovering local population distribution law and the impact mechanisms.

Numerical evaluations on the fluid production in the in-situ conversion of continental shale oil reservoirs

In-situ conversion presents a promising technique for exploiting continental oil shale formations,characterized by highly fractured organic-rich rock. A 3D in-situ conversion model, which incorporates a discrete fracture network, is developed using a self-developed thermal-flow-chemical(TFC) *** of the model elucidates the in-situ conversion process in three stages and defines the transformation of fluids into three distinct outcomes according to their end stages. The findings indicate that kerogen decomposition increases fluid pressure, activating fractures and subsequently enhancing permeability. A comprehensive analysis of activated fracture permeability and heating power reveals four distinct production modes, highlighting that increasing heating power correlates with higher cumulative fluid production. Activated fractures, with heightened permeability, facilitate the mobility of heavy oil toward production wells but hinder its cracking, thereby limiting light hydrocarbon ***, energy efficiency research demonstrates the feasibility of the in-situ conversion in terms of energy utilization, especially when considering the surplus energy from high-fluctuation energy sources such as wind and solar power to provide heating.
