Acoustic topological adiabatic passage via a level crossing

Stimulated adiabatic passage has been extensively studied to achieve robust and selective population transfer in quantum systems. Recently, the quantum-classic analogy has been rapidly developing and can be considered responsible for the implementation of the adiabatic transfer of sound energy in cavity chain systems. In this article, we investigate the adiabatic transfer of sound energy between two topological end states in the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger(SSH) cavity chain, which can be considered to be the acoustic analog of the quantum chirped-pulse excitation. The topological adiabatic passage in SSH cavity chain has two categories. When the single-cavity resonance frequencies on the sublattices A and B in the SSH cavity chain do not switch their spectrum positions, the topologically protected adiabatic evolution results in the returning passage of the sound excited in one end cavity. When a level crossing with single-cavity resonance frequencies on the sublattices A and B exhibits switch in the frequency spectrum, acoustic energy is observed to be topologically pumped between the two end cavities of the SSH chain.

Aloin Protects Against Blood-Brain Barrier Damage After Traumatic Brain Injury in Mice

Aloin is a small-molecule drug well known for its protective actions in various models of *** brain injury(TBI)-induced cerebral edema from secondary damage caused by disruption of the blood-brain barrier(BBB) often leads to an adverse *** the role of aloin in maintaining the integrity of the BBB after TBI remains unclear,we explored the protective effects of aloin on the BBB using in vivo and in vitro TBI *** male C57 BL/6 mice underwent controlled cortical impact injury,and mouse brain capillary endothelial bEnd.3 cells underwent biaxial stretch injury,then both received aloin *** the animal experiments,we found 20 mg/kg aloin to be the optimum concentration to decrease cerebral edema,decrease disruption of the BBB,and improve neurobehavioral performance after cortical impact *** the cellular studies,the optimum concentration of 40 μg/mL aloin reduced apoptosis and reversed the loss of tight junctions by reducing the reactive oxygen species levels and changes in mitochondrial membrane potential after stretch *** mechanisms may be that aloin downregulates the phosphorylation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase,the activation of p65 nuclear factor-kappa B,and the ratios of B cell lymphoma(Bcl)-2-associated X protein/Bcl-2 and cleaved caspase-3/*** conclude that aloin exhibits these protective effects on the BBB after TBI through its anti-oxidative stress and anti-apoptotic properties in mouse brain capillary endothelial *** may thus be a promising therapeutic drug for TBI.

Laryngeal Mask Airway for Cesarean Delivery： A 5-Year Retrospective Cohort Study

Background： The laryngeal mask airway （LMA） is the most commonly used rescue airway in obstetric anesthesia. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate the application of the LMA in parturients undergoing cesarean delivery （CD） for 5 years in our hospital. As a secondary objective, we investigated the incidence of airway-related complication in obstetric general anesthesia （GA）. Methods： We collected electronic data for all obstetric patients who received GA for CD between January 2010 and December 2014 in Peking University First Hospital. Based on the different types of airway device, patients were divided into endotracheal intubation （ET） group and LMA group. The incidences of regurgitation and aspiration, as well as maternal and neonatal postoperative outcomes were compared between groups. Results： During the 5-year study, GA was performed in 192 cases, which accounted for 2.0% of all CDs. The main indications fbr GA were contraindication to neuraxial anesthesia or a failed block. Among these, ET tube was used in 124 cases （68.9%） and LMA in 56 cases （31.1%）. The percentage of critical patients above the American Society of Anesthesiologists＇ Grade II was 24/124 in ET group and 4/56 in LMA group （P = 0.036）. The emergent delivery rate was 63.7% for ET group and 37.5% for LMA group （P = 0.001）. None of the patients had regurgitation or aspiration. There were no significant differences in terms of neonatal Apgar scores, maternal and neonatal postoperative outcomes between the two groups. Conclusions： Our results suggested that GA was mainly used for contraindication to neuraxial anesthesia or a failed block, and emergent CDs accounted for most cases. The second-generation LMA could be used for obstetric anesthesia, but correct position to achieve a good seal is the key to prevent reflux and aspiration. Whether they could replace the tracheal tube in routine practice needs further large prospective studies.

Image-based Virtual Exhibit and Its Extension to 3D

In this paper we introduce an image-based virtual exhibition system especially for clothing product. It can provide a powerful material substitution function, which is very useful for customization clothing-built. A novel color substitution algorithm and two texture morphing methods are designed to ensure realistic substitution result. To extend it to 3D, we need to do the model reconstruction based on photos. Thus we present an improved method for modeling human body. It deforms a generic model with shape details extracted from pictures to generate a new model. Our method begins with model image generation followed by silhouette extraction and segmentation. Then it builds a mapping between pixels inside every pair of silhouette segments in the model image and in the picture. Our mapping algorithm is based on a slice space representation that conforms to the natural features of human body.

Comparing Polyethersulfone and Polyurethane-immobilized Cells of Comamonas testosteroni QYY in Treatment of an Accidental Dye Wastewater

Well-channeled porous polyethersulfone（PES） beads were synthesized and used for the immobilization of Comamonas testosteroni QYY cells for an aerobic reactor to remove quinoline, phenol, and other refractory com- pounds in accidentally-released dye wastewater supplemented with domestic wastewater. The pore size in PES beads mainly depended on the dripping time through the Water vapor cylinder. When the cylinder was 2.5 m in length, the pore size in the obtained beads was enlarged to 3 ~m, which provided an ideal surface for cells to pass through and grow inside. The reactor with the immobilized C. testosteroni QYY on PES beads resisted organic loading shock and enhanced total organic carbon（TOC） removal, which had 100% removal efficiencies of both quinoline and phenol when the volume ratio of the accidental wastewater to domestic wastewater was increased from 1：2 to 1：1, as compared with the 100% and 34.7% removal efficiencies by the reactor with immobilized C. testosteroni QYY on polyttrethane（PU） cube or the 82% and 2.4% removal efficiencies by the reactor with only the suspended C. testosteroni QYY cells, respectively. The PES beads had a specific surface area of 1843 cm2/cm3, which had immobilized （0.0244-0.003） g of C, testosteroni QYY cell dry mass/cm3, compared with the specific surface area of 564 cm2/cm3 of the PU cube with （0.0184-0.002） g of cell dry mass/cm3. The kinetic study revealed that the quinoline and phenol degradation followed zero-order reactions for all the three reactors. The PES reactor demonstrated the highest quinoline and phenol removal efficiencies. The immobilized C. testosteroni QYY on the low-cost inert PES beads demonstrated good shock resistance and was able to completely remove the toxic compounds, including phenyl carbamate, 2-nitrotoluene, and dioctyl phthalate. Therefore, the beads were ideal for large-scale accidental wastewater treatment.

Estimating survival benefit of adjuvant therapy based on a Bayesian network prediction model in curatively resected advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma

BACKGROUND The factors affecting the prognosis and role of adjuvant therapy in advanced gallbladder carcinoma(GBC)after curative resection remain *** To provide a survival prediction model to patients with GBC as well as to identify the role of adjuvant *** Patients with curatively resected advanced gallbladder adenocarcinoma(T3 and T4)were selected from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results database between 2004 and 2015.A survival prediction model based on Bayesian network(BN)was constructed using the tree-augmented na?ve Bayes algorithm,and composite importance measures were applied to rank the influence of factors on *** dataset was divided into a training dataset to establish the BN model and a testing dataset to test the model randomly at a ratio of 7:*** confusion matrix and receiver operating characteristic curve were used to evaluate the model *** A total of 818 patients met the inclusion *** median survival time was 9.0 *** accuracy of BN model was 69.67%,and the area under the curve value for the testing dataset was 77.72%.Adjuvant radiation,adjuvant chemotherapy(CTx),T stage,scope of regional lymph node surgery,and radiation sequence were ranked as the top five prognostic factors.A survival prediction table was established based on T stage,N stage,adjuvant radiotherapy(XRT),and *** distribution of the survival time(>9.0 mo)was affected by different treatments with the order of adjuvant chemoradiotherapy(cXRT)>adjuvant radiation>adjuvant chemotherapy>surgery *** patients with node-positive disease,the larger benefit predicted by the model is adjuvant *** survival analysis showed that there was a significant difference among the different adjuvant therapy groups(log rank,surgery alone vs CTx,P<0.001;surgery alone vs XRT,P=0.014;surgery alone vs cXRT,P<0.001).CONCLUSION The BN-based survival prediction model can be used as a decision-making support tool for advanced

Background Recent advances in serial femtosecond crystallography(SFX)using X-ray free electron lasers(XFELs)have facilitated accurate structure determination for biological ***,given the many fluctuations inherent in SFX,the acquisition of SFX data of sufficiently high quality still remains *** Aimed at enhancing the accuracy of SFX data,this study proposes an iterative refinement method to optimally match pairs of the observed and predicted reflections on the detector *** method features a combination of detector geometry optimization and diffraction model refinement in an alternate manner,concomitant with a cycle-by-cycle peak selection *** To demonstrate whether this iterative method is convergent and feasible,both numerical simulations and experimental tests have been *** results reveal that this method can gradually improve overall quality of the integrated SFX data and therefore accelerate the convergence of Monte Carlo integration,while simultaneously suppressing correlations inherent in certain parameters and precluding outliers to some extent during the *** We have demonstrated that our iterative refinement method is applicable to both simulated and experimental SFX *** is expected that this method could provide meaningful insights into the refinement of SFX data and take the step forward toward more accurate Monte Carlo integration.
