A geospatial hybrid cloud platform based on multi-sourced computing and model resources for geosciences

Cloud computing has been considered as the next-generation computing platform with the potential to address the data and computing challenges in ***,only a limited number of geoscientists have been adapting this platform for their scientific research mainly due to two barriers:1)selecting an appropriate cloud platform for a specific application could be challenging,as various cloud services are available and 2)existing general cloud platforms are not designed to support geoscience applications,algorithms and *** tackle such barriers,this research aims to design a hybrid cloud computing(HCC)platform that can utilize and integrate the computing resources across different organizations to build a unified geospatial cloud computing *** platform can manage different types of underlying cloud infrastructure(e.g.,private or public clouds),and enables geoscientists to test and leverage the cloud capabilities through a web ***,the platform also provides different geospatial cloud services,such as workflow as a service,on the top of common cloud services(e.g.,infrastructure as a service)provided by general cloud ***,geoscientists can easily create a model workflow by recruiting the needed models for a geospatial application or task on the fly.A HCC prototype is developed and dust storm simulation is used to demonstrate the capability and feasibility of such platform in facilitating geosciences by leveraging across-organization computing and model resources.

A general-purpose framework for parallel processing of large-scale liDAR data

light detection and ranging(liDAR)data are essential for scientific discoveries such as Earth and ecological sciences,environmental applications,and responding to natural *** collecting liDAR data over large areas is quite possible the subsequent processing steps typically involve large computational *** storing,managing,and processing liDAR data are the prerequisite steps for enabling these liDAR-based ***,handling liDAR data poses grand geoprocessing challenges due to data and computational *** tackle such challenges,we developed a general-purpose scalable framework coupled with a sophisticated data decomposition and parallelization strategy to efficiently handle‘big’liDAR data *** contributions of this research were(1)a tile-based spatial index to manage big liDAR data in the scalable and fault-tolerable Hadoop distributed file system,(2)two spatial decomposition techniques to enable efficient parallelization of different types of liDAR processing tasks,and(3)by coupling existing liDAR processing tools with Hadoop,a variety of liDAR data processing tasks can be conducted in parallel in a highly scalable distributed computing environment using an online geoprocessing application.A proof-of-concept prototype is presented here to demonstrate the feasibility,performance,and scalability of the proposed framework.

Effects of host identity on the gut microbiota:A comparative study on three microtinae species

Background:Gut microbiota exert an immense effect on host health and host environmental ***,the composition and structure of gut microbiota are determined by the environment and host genetic ***,the relative contribution of the environment and host genetic factors toward shaping the structure of gut microbiota has been poorly ***:In this study,we characterized the fecal microbial communities of the closely related voles Neodon fuscus,Lasiopodomys brandtii,and *** after caged feeding in the laboratory for 6 months,through high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics ***:The results of pairwise comparisons of *** *** and *** *** revealed significant differences in bacterial diversity and composition after *** 991 same operational taxonomic units(OTUs)were shared in three voles,there were 362,291,and 303 species-specific OTUs in ***,***,and ***,*** relative abundances of Proteobacteria and Prevotella,which are reported to be enriched in high-altitude populations,were significantly higher in high-altitude *** than in low-altitude *** after ***,which produce various digestive enzymes for energy metabolism,and Spirochaetes,which can degrade cellulose,were found in higher abundance in subterranean *** than that in *** which dwells on the earth ***:Our findings showed that some components of gut microbiota still maintained dominance even when different host species are reared under the same environmental conditions,suggesting that these bacteria are substantially influenced by host factors.

Organic near-infrared(NIR)photodetectors with essential applications in medical diagnostics,night vision,remote sensing,and optical communications have attracted intensive research *** with most conventional inorganic counterparts,organic semiconductors usually have higher absorption coefficients,and their thin active layer could be sufficient to absorb most incident light for effective ***,due to the relatively poor charge mobility of organic materials,it remains challenging to inhibit the photogenerated exciton recombination and effectively extract carriers to their respective ***,this challenge was addressed by increasing matrix conductivities of a ternary active layer(D–A–D structure NIR absorber[2TT-oC6B]:poly(N,N′-bis-4-butylphenyl-N,N′-bisphenyl)benzidin[PolyTPD]:[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester[PCBM]=1:1:1)upon in situ incident light illumination,significantly accelerating charge transport through percolated interpenetrating *** greatly enhanced photoconductivity under illumination is intrinsically related to the unique donor–acceptor molecular structures of PolyTPD and 2TT-oC6B,whereas stable intermolecular interaction has been verified by systematic molecular dynamics *** addition,an ultrafast charge transfer time of 0.56 ps from the NIR aggregation-induced luminogens of 2TT-oC6B absorber to PolyTPD and PCBM measured by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy is beneficial for effective exciton *** solution-processed organic NIR photodetector exhibits a fast response time of 83μs and a linear dynamic range value of 111 dB under illumination of 830 ***,our work has opened up a pioneering window to enhance photoconductivity through in situ photoirradiation and benefit NIR photodetectors as well as other optoelectronic devices.

目的探讨单孔与双孔电视胸腔镜肺叶切除术治疗肺癌的临床疗效。方法随机选取2016年1月至2023年1月在武警北京总队医院接受胸腔镜肺叶切除术的患者,根据切除方案的不同分为双孔电视胸腔镜肺叶切除组(n=50,双孔组)和同期接受单孔电视胸腔镜肺叶切除组(n=50,单孔组)。对比手术指标、肺功能指标、并发症及相关检验指标。结果单孔组术中出血量、胸腔引流量,住院时间低于双孔组(P0.05)。单孔组并发症发生率低于双孔组(P0.05)。干预后双孔组EGFR、TGF-α高于单孔组,IGA、IGM低于单孔组(P<0.05)。结论2种方案对于淋巴清扫数量及术后肺功能恢复效果相近,但单孔手术操作的安全性更高,并发症发生率较低,降低炎性反应,利于术后恢复,具有积极临床使用价值。

A visual-textual fused approach to automated tagging of flood-related tweets during a flood event

In recent years,social media such as Twitter have received much attention as a new data source for rapid flood *** timely response and large coverage provided by citizen sensors significantly compensate the limitations of non-timely remote sensing data and spatially isolated river ***,automatic extraction of flood tweets from a massive tweets pool remains a *** the Houston Flood in 2017 as a study case,this paper presents an automated flood tweets extraction approach by mining both visual and textual information a tweet contains.A CNN architecture was designed to classify the visual content of flood pictures during the Houston Flood.A sensitivity test was then applied to extract flood-sensitive keywords that were further used to refine the CNN classified results.A duplication test was finally performed to trim the database by removing the duplicated pictures to create the flood tweets pool for the flood *** results indicated that coupling CNN classification results with flood-sensitive words in tweets allows a significant increase in precision while keeps the recall rate in a high *** elimination of tweets containing duplicated pictures greatly contributes to higher spatio-temporal relevance to the flood.

Identifying disaster related social media for rapid response:a visual-textual fused CNN architecture

In recent years,social media platforms have played a critical role in mitigation for a wide range of *** highly up-to-date social responses and vast spatial coverage from millions of citizen sensors enable a timely and comprehensive disaster ***,automatic retrieval of on-topic social media posts,especially considering both of their visual and textual information,remains a *** paper presents an automatic approach to labeling on-topic social media posts using visual-textual fused *** convolutional neural networks(CNNs),Inception-V3 CNN and word embedded CNN,are applied to extract visual and textual features respectively from social media ***-trained on our training sets,the extracted visual and textual features are further concatenated to form a fused feature to feed the final classification *** results suggest that both CNNs perform remarkably well in learning visual and textual *** fused feature proves that additional visual feature leads to more robustness compared with the situation where only textual feature is *** on-topic posts,classified by their texts and pictures automatically,represent timely disaster documentation during an *** with rich spatial contexts when geotagged,social media could greatly aid in a variety of disaster mitigation approaches.

Towards an Esox lucius inspired multimodal robotic fish

In this paper, we further explore multimodal locomotion via an updated robotic fish model based on Esox lucius. Besides the improved actuation properties like higher torque servomotors and powerful electronics,the robotic fish has some innovative mechanical design to pursue diverse swimming modes and superior performance. Specifically, we introduced a ±50° yawing head joint that functions as the neck for enhancing turning ability. A pair of pectoral mechanisms with two DOFs per fin is constructed to achieve 3-D swimming and to enrich multiple pectoral motions. At the control level, an improved central pattern generator(CPG) model allowing for free adjustment of the phase relationship among outputs is employed to produce rhythmic signals of multimodal swimming. Extensive experiments were carried out to examine how characteristic parameters in CPGs including amplitude, frequency, and phase lag affect the swimming performance. As a result, the robotic fish successfully performed various locomotion actions such as forward swimming, backward swimming, turning, diving, surfacing, as well as three pectoral motions in the form of pitching, heaving, and *** found that small phase lag between oscillating joints which means large propulsive body wave length and undulation width could lead to a faster swimming in body and/or caudal fin(BCF) locomotion.

Evacuation is an effective and commonly taken strategy to minimize death and injuries from an incoming *** decades,interdisciplinary research has contributed to a better understanding of evacuation *** destination choice modeling is an essential step for hurricane evacuation transportation *** factors are identified associated with evacuation destination choices,in which long-term social factors have been found essential,yet neglected,in most studies due to difficulty in data *** study utilized long-term human movement records retrieved from Twitter to(1)reinforce the importance of social factors in evacuation destination choices,(2)quantify individual-level familiarity measurement and its relationship with an individual’s destination choice,(3)develop a big data approach for aggregated county-level social distance measurement,and(4)demonstrate how gravity models can be improved by including both social distance and physical distance for evacuation destination choice modeling.

Leucine-rich repeat containing G protein-coupled receptor 5(Lgr5), a marker of intestinal stem cells(ISCs), is considered to play key roles in tissue homoeostasis and regeneration after acute radiation injury. However, the activation of Lgr5 by integrated signaling pathways upon radiation remains poorly understood. Here, we show that irradiation of mice with whole-body depletion or conditional ablation of REGγ in Lgr5^(+) stem cell impairs proliferation of intestinal crypts, delaying regeneration of intestine epithelial cells. Mechanistically, REGγ enhances transcriptional activation of Lgr5 via the potentiation of both Wnt and Hippo signal pathways. TEAD4 alone or cooperates with TCF4, a transcription factor mediating Wnt signaling, to enhance the expression of Lgr5. Silencing TEAD4 drastically attenuated β-catenin/TCF4 dependent expression of Lgr5. Together, our study reveals how REGγ controls Lgr5 expression and expansion of Lgr5+stem cells in the regeneration of intestinal epithelial ***, REGγ proteasome appears to be a potential therapeutic target for radiation-induced gastrointestinal disorders.
