The impact of earlier flood recession on metacommunity diversity of wintering waterbirds at shallow lakes in the middle and lower Yangtze River floodplain

The hydrological regime in wetlands plays an important role in the process of wintering waterbird metacommunity assemblage.However,increasing frequency of extreme climate and the intensification of human activities,such as the construction of sluices and dams,have resulted in frequently abnormal hydrological regime in the middle and lower Yangtze River floodplain.In recent years,earlier flood recession has become one of the main hydrological problems faced in the shallow lakes,having a great impact on wetland biodiversity.It is necessary to understand the impact of earlier flood recession on waterbirds,an indicator of wetland biodiversity,and the metacommunity concept is helpful to elucidate the underlying mechanism involved in the processes of assemblage by waterbird communities.In this study,we surveyed the wintering waterbirds at three sub-lakes of Caizi Lakes during 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 and compared the richness,abundance,alpha and beta diversity of waterbirds in and among local metacommunities under earlier flood recession and normal hydrological regime.The results showed that the earlier flood recession reduced the species richness in the early stage and abundance in the late stage,it also reduced the Shannon-Wiener index in the early stage and increased the dissimilarity between and within waterbird metacommunities in the late stage.The partition of beta diversity showed that the turnover component played a major role in the process of waterbird metacommunity assemblage.It was found that the earlier flood recession reduced the richness,abundance in different stages of flood recession,which also increased the turnover of waterbirds.Metacommunities with high habitat heterogeneity had better resistance to abnormal hydrological regime,which resulted in high dissimilarity between and within metacommunities.The results of this study provide important information for waterbird conservation and water level management at shallow lakes in the middle and lower Yangtze River floodplain.

With the extensive use of electronic communication technology in integrated circuit systems and wearable devices, electromagnetic interference(EMI) has increased dramatically. The shortcomings of conventional rigid EMI shielding materials include high brittleness, poor comfort, and unsuitability for conforming and deformable applications. Hitherto, flexible(particularly elastic) nanocomposites have attracted enormous interest due to their excellent deformability. However, the current flexible shielding nanocomposites present low mechanical stability and resilience, relatively poor EMI shielding performance, and limited multifunctionality. Herein, the advances in low-dimensional EMI shielding nanomaterials-based elastomers are outlined and a selection of the most remarkable examples is discussed. And the corresponding modification strategies and deformability performance are summarized. Finally, expectations for this quickly increasing sector are discussed, as well as future challenges.

Flexible nest site selection of the endangered Oriental Storks(Ciconia boyciana):Trade-off from adaptive strategies

Nest site selection is a vital component of bird reproduction success,and an adaptive behavior conducted to decrease nest predation risk with avoiding external disturbances.Understanding patterns of nest site selection can provide insights into how species adapt to changes in their habitat and has important conservation implications.In this study,we used microhabitat variables and multi-scale data with a field survey of nest occurrence to determine nest site selection patterns and adaptive strategies of the breeding Oriental Storks(Ciconia boyciana)in different nest areas.Results demonstrate that the nest site microhabitat characteristics of the breeding Oriental Storks significantly differed among the three nesting areas,and nest height was higher in the middle and lower Yangtze River floodplain than in the Northeast China and Bohai Bay nest areas.The food resources and intensity of human disturbance had the greatest effects on the nest site selection of the breeding Oriental Storks.The intensity of human disturbance was positively correlated with the nest height of the breeding Oriental Storks in Bohai Bay and the middle and lower Yangtze River floodplain;however,nest height decreased with the abundance of food resources in the Northeast China nest area.Our findings indicate that the nest site selection patterns of Oriental Storks showed flexible adaptive strategies.In safer environments,nests were lower and closer to food resources,which allows parent storks to invest more in the nestlings.However,in areas where human activity was intense,nests were higher to ensure the safety of their offspring.Some measures that could be taken to improve the breeding habitat of Oriental Storks include increasing the percentage of wetland areas in nesting areas to enhance food resources availability and setting artificial nests at suitable heights in potential nesting grounds to encourage nesting.Finally,the establishment of soft barriers around the nesting areas could increase the safety of nests.

The Japanese common squid Todarodes pacificus is widely distributed in the Sea of Japan,the East China Sea and the Northwest Pacific Ocean,and is largely exploited by the Asia-Pacific countries.In this study,the impacts of regime shift of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO)during 1977-2015 on the autumn cohort of T.pacificus were assessed by examining the variations in vertical water temperatures at depths of 0 m(Temp_0 m),50 m(Temp_50 m)and 100 m(Temp_100 m)and the distribution pattern of preferred spawning ground(SSG).Spatial and temporal correlation analysis revealed that the PDO index exhibited a significantly negative relationship with vertical water temperatures at different depths and was negatively related to catch-per-unit-effort(CPUE)and stock biomass of T.pacificus.In addition,water temperatures in the specific three water layers were positively associated with CPUE.The PDO regime shift strongly affected the thermal condition and spawning ground of T.pacificus.Comparing to the negative PDO,the waters from the surface to the deep became cool in the positive PDO phase;correspondingly,the area of SSG largely contracted at different depths.Consequently,the CPUE and stock biomass of T.pacificus profoundly decreased.From the results it can be concluded that the PDO regime shift-driven changes in vertical thermal condition and SSG ranges can yield substantial impacts on T.pacificus abundance.

Small molecule donor/polymer acceptor(SD/PA)-type organic solar cells(OSCs)have attracted widespread attention in recent years due to the continuing power conversion efficiency(PCE)growth,near 10%,and the excellent thermal stability for the practical applications.However,the development of SD/PA-type OSCs lags far behind that of polymer donor/small molecule acceptor(PD/SA)-type OSCs,which are also based on the combination of small molecule and polymer,with the PCEs exceeding 18%.The reasons accounting for this great gap are well worth exploring.In this review,we have analyzed the key factors affecting the photovoltaic performances of SD/PA-type OSCs,systematically summarized the research progress of SD/PA type OSCs in recent years,and put forward our own views on the future development of SD/PA type OSCs.

Flexible perovskite solar cells(FPSCs) have attracted enormous interest in wearable and portable electronics due to their high power-per-weight and low cost. Flexible and efficient perovskite solar cells require the development of flexible electrodes compatible with the optoelectronic properties of perovskite. In this review, the recent progress of flexible electrodes used in FPSCs is comprehensively reviewed. The major features of flexible transparent electrodes, including transparent conductive oxides, conductive polymer, carbon nanomaterials and nanostructured metallic materials are systematically compared. And the corresponding modification strategies and device performance are summarized. Moreover, flexible opaque electrodes including metal films, opaque carbon materials and metal foils are critically assessed. Finally, the development directions and difficulties of flexible electrodes are given.

Ferroptosis-based nano delivery systems targeted therapy for colorectal cancer:Insights and future perspectives

There are limited options for patients who develop liver metastasis from colorectal cancer(CRC),the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide.Emerging evidence has provided insights into iron deficiency and excess in CRC.Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death characterized by aberrant iron and lipid metabolism,which play crucial roles in tumorigenesis,tumor progression,and treatment options.A better understanding of the underlying molecular mechanism of ferroptosis has shed light on the current findings of ferroptosis-based nanodrug targeting strategies,such as driving ferroptosis in tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment,emerging combination therapy and against multidrug resistance.Furthermore,this review highlights the challenge and perspective of a ferroptosis-driven nanodrug delivery system for CRC-targeted therapy.

Dimension decomposition algorithm for multiple source localization using uniform circular array

A dimension decomposition(DIDE)method for multiple incoherent source localization using uniform circular array(UCA)is proposed.Due to the fact that the far-field signal can be considered as the state where the range parameter of the nearfield signal is infinite,the algorithm for the near-field source localization is also suitable for estimating the direction of arrival(DOA)of far-field signals.By decomposing the first and second exponent term of the steering vector,the three-dimensional(3-D)parameter is transformed into two-dimensional(2-D)and onedimensional(1-D)parameter estimation.First,by partitioning the received data,we exploit propagator to acquire the noise subspace.Next,the objective function is established and partial derivative is applied to acquire the spatial spectrum of 2-D DOA.At last,the estimated 2-D DOA is utilized to calculate the phase of the decomposed vector,and the least squares(LS)is performed to acquire the range parameters.In comparison to the existing algorithms,the proposed DIDE algorithm requires neither the eigendecomposition of covariance matrix nor the search process of range spatial spectrum,which can achieve satisfactory localization and reduce computational complexity.Simulations are implemented to illustrate the advantages of the proposed DIDE method.Moreover,simulations demonstrate that the proposed DIDE method can also classify the mixed far-field and near-field signals.

Removal of hexavalent chromium from contaminated waters by ultrasound-assisted aqueous solution ball milling

Batch mode experiments were conducted to study the removal of hexavalent chromium（Cr（Ⅵ）） from aqueous solutions using ultrasound-assisted aqueous solution ball milling.The results show that the reduction rate of Cr（Ⅵ） by ultrasound-assisted aqueous solution ball milling was significantly faster than that by ball milling or ultrasound treatment alone,and an initial Cr（Ⅵ） concentration of 166 mg/L could be decreased to 0.35 mg/L at 120 min.The decisive factors, including initial concentration of Cr（Ⅵ）, p H value, ultrasonic frequency and filling gas, were studied. It was found that the optimal ultrasonic frequency for ultrasound-assisted aqueous solution ball milling device was 20 k Hz, and the rate of Cr（Ⅵ）reduction as a function of filling gas followed the order： Ar 〉 air 〉 N2〉 O2. Samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, fluorescence measurements, atomic absorption and the diphenylcarbazide colorimetric method. The Cr（Ⅵ） transformed into a precipitate that could be removed from the contaminated water, after which the water could be reused.

A preliminary study of early agriculture practices at the Haojiatai site in Luohe city,Henan Province

As the most fundamental economic sector of human societies,farming has played a significant role in interactions between humans and the environment.The study of crop patterns in various regions could not only clarify the economic foundations of early societies,but also greatly improve our understanding of interactions among human beings,the environment,and other creatures.In this regard,this study focuses on early agriculture practices at the Haojiatai site,situated in the cultural and natural transitional region between North and South China.Macro plant remains from this site reveal that foxtail millet was the most important staple crop here during the Longshan and Xinzhai periods(4300–3800 cal.yr BP),along with common millet and a small amount of rice and soybean.This crop pattern is in contrast to the ancient environmental conditions of this region,and cultural factors such as agriculture traditions and food preferences may have been more important in the formation process of this crop pattern.
