An in-depth understanding of improvement strategies and corresponding characterizations towards Zn anode in aqueous Zn-ions batteries

Combining the unique advantages of aqueous electrolytes and metallic Zn anode, rechargeable aqueous Zn-ion batteries(ZIBs) are of great promise for large-scale energy storage applications due to their inherent high safety, low cost, and environmental friendliness. As the essential component of ZIBs, Zn metal anode suffers from severe dendrite formation and inevitable side reactions(e.g. corrosion and hydrogen evolution)in aqueous electrolytes, which leads to low Coulombic efficiency and inferior cycling stability, impeding their large-scale applications. To be compatible with satisfactory aqueous ZIBs, Zn anode has been modified from various perspectives and focus areas. Herein, based on their intrinsic characteristics, we review the related improvement strategies for Zn anode, including interphase, substrate, and bulk design, so as to achieve an in-depth understanding of Zn anode optimization. Furthermore, the timely summary of characterization methods for Zn anodes are also performed for the first time, from both thermodynamic and kinetics perspectives, which is particularly helpful for beginners to understand the complicated characterizations and employ suitable methods. Finally, certain noteworthy points are put forward for subsequent investigation of aqueous ZIBs. It is expected that this review will enlighten researchers to explore more efficient optimization strategies for Zn anode in aqueous electrolytes.

Solid-state electrolytes(SSEs)can address the safety issue of organic electrolyte in rechargeable lithium batteries.Unfortunately,neither polymer nor ceramic SSEs used alone can meet the demand although great progress has been made in the past few years.Composite solid electrolytes(CSEs)composed of flexible polymers and brittle but more conducting ceramics can take advantage of the individual system for solid-state lithium metal batteries(SSLMBs).CSEs can be largely divided into two categories by the mass fraction of the components:“polymer rich”(PR)and“ceramic rich”(CR)systems with different internal structures and electrochemical properties.This review provides a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of recent advances and limitations of both PR and CR electrolytes,with a special focus on the ion conduction path based on polymer-ceramic interaction mechanisms and structural designs of ceramic fillers/frameworks.In addition,it highlights the PR and CR which bring the leverage between the electrochemical property and the mechanical property.Moreover,it further prospects the possible route for future development of CSEs according to their rational design,which is expected to accelerate the practical application of SSLMBs.

New concepts for deepening hydrocarbon exploration and their application effects in the Junggar Basin, NW China

The Junggar Basin is one of the major petroliferous basins with abundant oil and gas resources in onshore China.Around 2010 and thereafter,the hydrocarbon exploration for finding giant fields in the basin faced tough difficulties:in the northwestern margin area,no significant breakthrough has been made for long since seeking to"escape from the step-fault zone and extend to the slope area";in the central part,the exploration for large lithologic-stratigraphic reservoirs stood still;since the discovery of the Kelameili gas field,no important achievement has been made in gas exploration.Under the guidance of"whole sag-oil-bearing"theory in the petroliferous basin,and based on the long-term study and thinking of the petroleum accumulation conditions and characteristics,the authors proposed several new concepts,i.e.,a"thrust-induced second-order fault step"hiding under the northwestern slope area;six"hydrocarbon migrationward surfaces"favorable for hydrocarbon accumulation;promising natural gas resource.These concepts have played an important role in the discoveries of Wells Mahu1 and Yanbei1 as well as the confirmation and expansion of Permian-Triassic billion-ton-scale petroliferous areas in Mahu.The fairway of new discoveries has also appeared for natural gas exploration in Wells Fu26,Gaotan1 and Qianshao2,suggesting that the surrounding regions of the highly matured source kitchen are of high possibility to form gas accumulations.

Metamorphosis is the short developmental stage characterized by dramatic ontogenetic changes that occurs in most animals.However,this important process remains largely unclear in marine invertebrates.In this study,we performed the sequential RNA sequencing of a representative mollusk,the rapa whelk(Rapana venosa),that is undergoing metamorphosis and conducted differential gene expression analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis(WGCNA)to investigate the overall and dynamic transcriptome responses.The results revealed that the expression of cytochrome P4502A and 3A were upregulated during metamorphosis,while the expression of H/ACA ribonucleoproteins increased 4 h after metamorphosis induction(M4 stage),indicating that R.venosa mainly responded to the pelagobenthic changes.At the M24 stage,the enrichment of V-type proton ATPase and insulin indicated the complete development of secretory organs and initiation of hormone secretion.Furthermore,at the M48 stage,the enrichment of zinc metalloproteinase and conotoxin indicated a well-developed predation system that requires exogenous nutrition.Finally,during the PL stage,the genes associated with growth control were highly enriched,implying that R.venosa had completed metamorphosis and has entered the period of rapid growth.Therefore,our study provides useful transcriptomic resources for R.venosa and contributes new insights that may assist in elucidating the mechanisms underlying metamorphosis in marine invertebrates.

With their intrinsic safety and environmental benignity,aqueous Zn-ion batteries(ZIBs)have been considered the most appropriate candidates for replacing alkali metal systems.However,polycrystalline Zn anodes in aqueous environments still pose enormous issues,such as dendrite growth and side reactions.Although many efforts have been made to address these obstacles through interphase modification and electrolyte design,researchers have not been able to improve the inherent thermodynamic stability and ion deposition behavior of the Zn anode.It is imperative to understand and explore advanced anode construction methods from the perspective of crystallinity.This review delves into the feasibility of precisely regulating the crystallographic features of metallic zinc,examines the challenges and merits of reported strategies for fabricating textured zinc,and offers constructive suggestions for the large-scale production and commercial application of aqueous ZIBs.

Neptunea cumingii is an important nutrition-rich economic species in China.Juveniles of N.cumingii suff er from high mortality at low temperatures,which has proved a limiting factor in raising seedlings in artifi cial habitats.Previous research has shown that N.cumingii displays aggregation behavior in response to adverse environmental changes.Therefore,we determined the eff ects of temperature,food,size of juvenile snails,substratum type,and density of juvenile snails on the aggregation behavior of N.cumingii.Results show that,at a low(4°C)or a high(22°C)temperature,juvenile snails adjusted to the inhospitable environment by exhibiting increased aggregation behavior.However,their aggregation behaviors diff ered at these two temperatures.There was no signifi cant diff erence in the aggregation rate,but the typical aggregation size was larger at 4°C than at 22°C.At 10°C or 16°C,aggregation behavior of juvenile snails reduced.Aggregation increased in the satiation treatment at 10°C and 16°C.Small-sized juveniles tended to have higher aggregation rates(92.22%)and a larger typical aggregation size.More juveniles were distributed in the bottom of shaded substrata.A larger typical aggregation size or higher density signifi cantly reduced the mortality of juvenile snails at a low temperature(4°C).These results broaden our understanding of gastropod aggregation behavior and can be used to develop and improve commercial breeding strategies and resource recovery for N.cumingii.

Pylorus- and vagus nerve-preserving partial gastrectomy is important in improving the prognosis of early gastric cancer surgery, reducing surgical complications and improving the quality of life for such patients. In the present case, pylorus- and vagus nerve-preserving partial gastrectomy was performed using the bipolar electrocautery dissection technique combined with D2 dissection along the lesser sac.

Theranostic nanoagents that integrate the diagnoses and therapies within a single nanomaterial are compelling in their use for highly precise and efficient antitumor treatments. Herein, polyethylene glycol （PEG）-modified cobalt sulfide nanosheets （CoS-PEG NSs） are synthesized and unitized as a powerful theranostic nanoagent for efficient photothermal conversion and multimodal imaging for the first time. We demonstrate that the obtained CoS-PEG NSs show excellent compatibility and stability in water and various physiological solutions, and can be effectively inter- nalized by cells, but exhibit a low cytotoxicity. The CoS-PEG NSs exhibit an efficient photothermal conversion capacity, benefited from the strong near-infrared （NIR） absorption, high photothermal conversion efficiency （~ 33.0%）, and excellent photo- thermal stability. Irnportant136 the highly effective photothermal killing effect on cancer ceils after exposure to CoS-PEG NSs plus laser irradiation has been con- firmed by both the standard Cell Counting Kit-8 and live-dead cell staining assays, revealing a concentration-dependent photothermal therapeutic effect. Moreover, utilizing the strong NIR absorbance together with the T2-MR contrast ability of the CoS-PEG NSs, a high-contrast triple-modal imaging, i.e., photoacoustic （PA）, infrared thermal （IRT）, and magnetic resonance （MR） imaging, can be achieved, suggesting a great potential for multimodal imaging to provide comprehensive cancer diagnosis. Our work introduces the first bioapplication of the CoS-PEG nanomaterial as a potential theranostic nanoplatform and may promote further rational design of CoS-based nanostructures for precise/effident cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Uncovering the critical impact of the solid electrolyte interphase structure on the interfacial stability

Solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)plays a critical role in determining the interfacial stability,which in turn impacts the plating/stripping process of the lithium metal anode.Substantial research has been focused on the composition of SEI and its contribution to the interfacial stability.Herein,we illustrate the significance of SEI structure,in a comprehensive comparison of a diluted electrolyte(1 M LiTFSI-PC)and a super-concentrated electrolyte(8 M LiTFSI-PC).Illustrated by in situ optical and atomic force microscope observation,homogeneous plating on lithium anode is achieved in the concentrated electrolyte.However,x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations reveal that,contrary to the general understanding,the components of SEI is nearly identical for lithium anode cycled in both two electrolytes.Detailed characterizations demonstrate the structure of SEI is quite different.In concentrated electrolyte,a compact structure of SEI layer can be obtained,mainly due to the reduced solubility and outstanding formation kinetics of the interfacial layer.This work provided a new understanding to the excellent performance of super-concentrated electrolyte in lithium metal battery.

The effects of the uneven bottom on horizontal longitudinal correlations of acoustic field in deep water

The spatial coherence of sound field in the reflection area of deep-water bottom is studied by analyzing the data of an acoustic propagation experiment conducted in the South China Sea. Some different oscillation patterns of the measured horizontal longitudinal correla- tions of acoustic field are observed for two different tracks in the flat bottom and the uneven bottom environments when the source distance ranges from 29 km to 35 km. Numerical analysis based on the ray theory is carried on to explain the causes of the differences. The experimental and mlmerical results show that the travel time differences between the one-bottom-reflection （1BR） rays, which make a major contribution to the sound field of the 1BR area in flat bottom environment, decrease gradually with increasing horizontal distance. Then the phase of the interference cyclically changes within 27r, leading to the correlations＇ periodical oscillation in deep water with flat bottom. In the uneven bottom environment, however, due to the reflection- blockage effects of the sea hill on the 1BR sound beams, the sound transmission losses （TLs） in- crease significantly in the reflection area of the sea hill. What＇s more, the horizontal-longitudinal correlations decreasing slightly in general don＇t show obvious cyclical oscillation any longer in the corresponding reflection area because of the complex interference of the relatively more eigenrays. This work is of significance to analyze the detection performance of the sonar array in deep water with the complicated bathymetry environment.
