The role of axon guidance molecules in the pathogenesis of epilepsy

Current treatments for epilepsy can only manage the symptoms of the condition but cannot alter the initial onset or halt the progression of the disease. Consequently, it is crucial to identify drugs that can target novel cellular and molecular mechanisms and mechanisms of action. Increasing evidence suggests that axon guidance molecules play a role in the structural and functional modifications of neural networks and that the dysregulation of these molecules is associated with epilepsy susceptibility. In this review, we discuss the essential role of axon guidance molecules in neuronal activity in patients with epilepsy as well as the impact of these molecules on synaptic plasticity and brain tissue remodeling. Furthermore, we examine the relationship between axon guidance molecules and neuroinflammation, as well as the structural changes in specific brain regions that contribute to the development of epilepsy. Ample evidence indicates that axon guidance molecules, including semaphorins and ephrins, play a fundamental role in guiding axon growth and the establishment of synaptic connections. Deviations in their expression or function can disrupt neuronal connections, ultimately leading to epileptic seizures. The remodeling of neural networks is a significant characteristic of epilepsy, with axon guidance molecules playing a role in the dynamic reorganization of neural circuits. This, in turn, affects synapse formation and elimination. Dysregulation of these molecules can upset the delicate balance between excitation and inhibition within a neural network, thereby increasing the risk of overexcitation and the development of epilepsy. Inflammatory signals can regulate the expression and function of axon guidance molecules, thus influencing axonal growth, axon orientation, and synaptic plasticity. The dysregulation of neuroinflammation can intensify neuronal dysfunction and contribute to the occurrence of epilepsy. This review delves into the mechanisms associated with

Studying molecular recognition in aqueous environments is crucial for understanding biological processes. Herein, we present a series of N-doped endo-functionalized anthracene-based cavities by introducing inward-directed pyridine units. The subtle modifications can significantly affect the binding properties of these receptors, which is similar to the mutations in biological systems. Combining theoretical calculations and molecular recognition experiments demonstrated that these “mutations” have an impact on the hydrophobicity and charge distribution of the hosts, consequently significantly influencing molecular *** is crucial for understanding the intricate mechanisms of molecular-level interactions in biological receptors.

Physarum polycephalum-inspired adaptive optimization design of artificial microtubular networks

Natural biological microtubular networks have undergone adaptive evolutionary selection and may offer viable solutions to design challenges in artificial microtubular networks. The plasmodium of the slime mold Physarum polycephalum(P. polycephalum) extends continuously to form a protoplasmic microtubular network structure, directly connecting food *** simulations revealed that the formation of this adaptive P. polycephalum microtubular network could be captured by a mathematical algorithm. Inspired by the P. polycephalum microtubular networks, we propose an adaptive optimization design method for artificial microtubular networks. Specifically, we utilized hydrogels with biodegradable and tissue-adhesive properties to replicate the P. polycephalum microtubular networks via photomask. In Rhodamine B diffusion and glucosecatalyzed reaction experiments, we found that the P. polycephalum microtubular networks exhibited significantly enhanced efficiency compared to vascular and artificial networks. Furthermore, we demonstrated the potential for uric acid(UA) degradation of the hydrogels with a real P. polycephalum microtubular network loaded with urate oxidase(UOx) in a rodent model of hyperuricemia. And this network achieved more than double the effect of the artificial network. This underscores the potential of natural microtubular networks to replace artificial microtubular networks.

Based on literature review and long-term field surveys,we compile the first comprehensive checklist of the herpetofauna of the Gaoligong Mountain(GLGM).Based on newly collected vouchers and confirmed photos,we added six new national records of reptiles to China,one new provincial record of reptile to Yunnan Province,and five new records of amphibian and reptiles to the ***,based on published literature and our new data,we removed 24 and 18 records of recognized reptile and amphibian species,respectively,from the GLGM due to misidentification or outdated *** total,107 species of reptiles and 84 species of amphibians have been recorded from the ***,the GLGM was divided into four herpetofauna subregions,namely(1)the Northern Nu Valley,(2)the Dulong Valley,(3)the Main Gaoligong Range,and(4)the Tropical Hills of *** Tropical Hills of Gaoligong harbors the highest number of threatened and nationally protected species,but the Northern Nu Valley and Dulong Valley had the highest percentage of threatened *** 30% of the herpetofauna in the GLGM lack conservation assessments,and roadkill and bushmeat consumption are the two main threats to the herpetofauna in the ***,we discuss the existing issues regarding herpetological diversity studies in the GLGM and suggest directions for future research.

Hypercrosslinking Polymers Fabricated from Divinyl Benzene via Friedel-Crafts Addition Polymerization

Microporous organic polymers with high surface area are widely used in many *** them,hypercrosslinked polymers have been extensively concerned because of their simple processes and low-cost ***,due to most state-of-the-art strategies for HCPs based on condensation reactions,the release of small molecules such as hydrochloric acid and methanol involved in such strategies brings about new hazards to ***,we propose a method of fabrication of hypercrosslinked polymers via self-addition polymerization of divinyl benzene and its crosslinking with polar aromatic *** hypercrosslinked polyDVB-based products are demonstrated by FriedelCrafts addition reaction of double bonds on DVB that can connect adjacent phenyl rings of aromatic molecules to form the crosslinked *** HCPDVB-CB obtained in 1-chlorobutane as solvent has a high micropore content and displays high surface area up to 931 m^(2)/*** this finding,DVB is used as a novel external crosslinker for knitting polar aromatic *** L-phenylalanine and bisphenol A are used as the aromatic units,the obtained HCP(Phe-DVB)and HCP(BPA-DVB)could reach surface area of 612 and 471 m^(2)/g,and have hydrogen uptake of0.62 wt%and 0.58 wt%at 77 K and 1.13 bar by comparison with HCPDVB-CB having hydrogen uptake of 0.30 wt%,respectively.

Phase evolution of binary immiscible Al-Sn film

Binary immiscible Al-Sn alloy is a very important potential anode material for lithium ion *** phase stability and separation process of Al-Sn film,fabricated by magnetron co-sputtering method,was investigated by X-ray diffractometer(XRD),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and in situ transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and explained by Miedema theoretical *** analysis reveals that the asdeposited Al-Sn film will decompose spontaneously into Al-riched areas and Sn-riched areas because of the positive mixing *** crystallization process takes place when the Al content in the Al-riched area or Sn content in the Sn-riched area *** results show that Al-Sn thin film is composed of an amorphous matrix and well-dispersed composite *** particle contains an Al-riched area and a Sn-riched *** Snriched area crystallizes and swallows up the Al-riched area gradually during heating through uphill diffusion of the Sn *** on the theoretical analysis and experimental results,an empirical model to explain the phase evolution process in the Al-Sn film was proposed.

Development of high-efficiency non-noble electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR),oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)is urgently needed for high-performance Zn-air batteries and overall water ***,a facile strategy to synthesize novel Co-MOF,O-doped carbon(Co-MOF-T)based on Zn,Co-doped glucosamine and ZIF-8 by pyrolysis at temperature T was *** prepared Co-MOF-800 showed a superior oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)activity comparable to that of commercial Pt/C *** addition,this catalyst shows great potential in the overall water splitting due to the excellent oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)*** on the trifunctional activity,the primary Zn-air batteries using a Co-MOF-800 air electrode achieved a high open-circuit voltage of 1.38 V,a specific capacity of 671.6 mAh g^(-1) Zn,and a prominent peak power density of 144 mW cm^(-2).Also,the rechargeable Zn-air batteries based on CoMOF-800 air electrode could be smoothly run for 510 cycles with a low voltage gap of 0.58 ***,the trifunctional Co-MOF-800 catalyst was applied to boost the electrochemical water splitting,demonstrating its promising potential as a green energy material for practical applications.

Remote ether groups-directed regioselective and chemoselective cycloaddition of azides and alkynes

Remote ether groups could be used as directing groups to prepare fully substituted 5-ether-1,2,3-triazoles with exclusive 1,5-regioselectivities and excellent chemoselectivities. Ether group could coordinate with iridium catalyst by lone-pair electron at a distance(up to four σ bonds) away from alkyne to control the regioselectivity by weak coordination effect. The cycloaddition reaction chemoselectively occurred at the propargyl ether moiety of diyne to give unique fully substituted 4-alkynyl-triazole.

Relative humidity and temperature dependence of mechanical degradation of natural fiber composites^(?)

In this paper,the mechanical degradation of natural fiber composites is studied with the consideration of the relative humidity and the temperature.A nonlinear constitutive model is established,which employs an internal variable to describe the mechanical degradation related to the energy dissipation during moisture *** existing experimental researches demonstrated that the mechanical degradation is an irreversible thermodynamic process induced by the degradation of fibers and the damages of interfaces between fiber and matrix,both of which depend on the variation of the relative humidity or the *** evolution of the mechanical degradation is obtained through the determination of dissipation rates as a function of the relative humidity and the *** theoretically predicted mechanical degradations are compared with experimental results of sisal fiber reinforced composites subject to different relative humidity and temperatures,and a good agreement is found.

Lightweight, miniaturized optical imaging systems are vastly anticipated in these fields of aerospace exploration, industrial vision, consumer electronics, and medical imaging. However, conventional optical techniques are intricate to downscale as refractive lenses mostly rely on phase accumulation. Metalens, composed of subwavelength nanostructures that locally control light waves, offers a disruptive path for small-scale imaging systems. Recent advances in the design and nanofabrication of dielectric metalenses have led to some high-performance practical optical systems. This review outlines the exciting developments in the aforementioned area whilst highlighting the challenges of using dielectric metalenses to replace conventional optics in miniature optical systems. After a brief introduction to the fundamental physics of dielectric metalenses, the progress and challenges in terms of the typical performances are introduced. The supplementary discussion on the common challenges hindering further development is also presented, including the limitations of the conventional design methods, difficulties in scaling up, and device integration. Furthermore, the potential approaches to address the existing challenges are also deliberated.
