In order to forecast the distribution of crest amplitudes and the occurrence of freak waves in a short crested coastal sea,a novel transformed linear simulation method is initially proposed in this paper.A Hermite transformation model expressed as a monotonic cubic polynomial serves as the foundation for the novel simulation technique.The wave crest amplitude exceedance probabilities of two sea states-one with a directional wave spectrum based on the measured wave elevation data at the Yura coast and the other with a typical directional JONSWAP wave spectrum-have been predicted using the novel simulation method that has been proposed.The likelihood that a particular critical wave crest amplitude will be exceeded is directly correlated with the probability that freak waves will occur.It is shown that the novel simulation approach suggested can provide predictions that are more precise than those obtained from the Rayleigh crest amplitude distribution model,the Jahns and Wheeler crest amplitude distribution model,or the conventional linear simulation method.This study also demonstrated that the nonlinear simulation method is less effective than the novel simulation method in terms of efficiency.

BACKGROUND Bone healing is a complex process involving early inflammatory immune regu-lation,angiogenesis,osteogenic differentiation,and biomineralization.Fracture repair poses challenges for orthopedic surgeons,necessitating the search for efficient healing methods.AIM To investigate the underlying mechanism by which hydrogel-loaded exosomes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)facilitate the process of fracture healing.METHODS Hydrogels and loaded BMSC-derived exosome(BMSC-exo)gels were charac-terized to validate their properties.In vitro evaluations were conducted to assess the impact of hydrogels on various stages of the healing process.Hydrogels could recruit macrophages and inhibit inflammatory responses,enhance of human umbilical vein endothelial cell angiogenesis,and promote the osteogenic differen-tiation of primary cranial osteoblasts.Furthermore,the effect of hydrogel on fracture healing was confirmed using a mouse fracture model.RESULTS The hydrogel effectively attenuated the inflammatory response during the initial repair stage and subsequently facilitated vascular migration,promoted the formation of large vessels,and enabled functional vascularization during bone repair.These effects were further validated in fracture models.CONCLUSION We successfully fabricated a hydrogel loaded with BMSC-exo that modulates macrophage polarization and angiogenesis to influence bone regeneration.

Controllable and scalable preparation of electrocatalyst materials holds significant importance for their practical application.Magnetron sputtering is a highly effective synthesis method,known for its producing uniform films and allowing easy control of component compositions.In this paper,we propose an in-situ synthesis method for layered double hydroxide(LDH)electrocatalysts through sacrificing magnetron sputtered films.The resulting FeCo-LDH catalyst demonstrated a low overpotential of only 300 mV at 10 mA·cm^(-2).Furthermore,we conducted spectroscopic analysis to investigate the surface changes of the catalysts during the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)process.Our findings indicated that the formation of Co oxyhydroxides plays a beneficial role in enhancing the catalytical performance of the FeCo-LDH for OER reaction.This restructuring strategy of converting a magnetron-sputtered sacrificial film into a catalytical LDH introduces a new avenue to the synthesis of transition metal-based electrocatalysts.

Increasing the electrode thickness is a significant method to decrease the weight and volume ratio of the inactive components for high energy density of the devices.In this contribution,we extracted a repeating unit in the configurations and establish the empirical energy density model based on some assumptions.In this model,the effects of the electrode thickness on the energy density for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),lithium metal batteries(LMBs),and anode-free lithium batteries(ALBs)are evaluated quantitively with the current parameters of the batteries.The results demonstrate that the structure evolutions from LIBs,LMBs to ALBs with the reduction of the anode weight contribution,the energy density can be well improved exactly.While the increase of the thickness of the electrode provide another route to furthe r enhance the energydensity by decreasing the weight contribution of inactive materials;meanwhile the effects for ALBs are higher than LMBs and LIBs due to the higher weight ratio of inactive materials.This empirical energy density model is also applied into the practical system and provide intuitional results to guide the battery design for higher energy density.

Valvular heart disease(VHD),clinically manifested as stenosis and regurgitation of native heart valve,is one of the most prevalent cardiovascular diseases with high mortality.Heart valve replacement surgery has been recognized as golden standard for the treatment of VHD.Owing to the clinical application of transcatheter heart valve replacement technic and the excellent hemodynamic performance of bioprosthetic heart valves(BHVs),implantation of BHVs has been increasing over recent years and gradually became the preferred choice for the treatment of VHD.However,BHVs might fail within 10-15 years due to structural valvular degeneration(SVD),which was greatly associated with drawbacks of glutaraldehyde crosslinked BHVs,including cytotoxicity,calcification,component degradation,mechanical failure,thrombosis and immune response.To prolong the service life of BHVs,much effort has been devoted to overcoming the drawbacks of BHVs and reducing the risk of SVD.In this review,we summarized and analyzed the research and progress on:(i)modification strategies based on glutaraldehyde crosslinked BHVs and(ii)nonglutaraldehyde crosslinking strategies for BHVs.

Objective Diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM)represents a substantial risk factor for heart failure and increased mortality in individuals afflicted with diabetes mellitus(DM).DCM typically manifests as myocardial fibrosis,myocardial hypertrophy,and impaired left ventricular diastolic function.While the clinical utility of the Jianpi Qinghua(JPQH)formula has been established in treating diabetes and insulin resistance,its potential efficacy in alleviating diabetic cardiomyopathy remains uncertain.This study aims to investigate the impact and underlying molecular mechanisms of the JPQH formula(JPQHF)in ameliorating myocardial injury in nonobese diabetic rats,specifically focusing on apoptosis and inflammation.Methods Wistar rats were assigned as the normal control group(CON),while Goto-Kakizaki(GK)rats were randomly divided into three groups:DM,DM treated with the JPQHF,and DM treated with metformin(MET).Following a 4-week treatment regimen,various biochemical markers related to glucose metabolism,cardiac function,cardiac morphology,and myocardial ultrastructure in GK rats were assessed.RNA sequencing was utilized to analyze differential gene expression and identify potential therapeutic targets.In vitro experiments involved high glucose to induce apoptosis and inflammation in H9c2 cells.Cell viability was evaluated using CCK-8 assay,apoptosis was monitored via flow cytometry,and the production of inflammatory cytokines was measured using quantitative real-time PCR(qPCR)and ELISA.Protein expression levels were determined by Western blotting analysis.The investigation also incorporated the use of MAPK inhibitors to further elucidate the mechanism at both the transcriptional and protein levels.Results The JPQHF group exhibited significant reductions in interventricular septal thickness at end-systole(IVSs)and left ventricular internal diameter at end-systole and end-diastole(LVIDs and LVIDd).JPQHF effectively suppressed high glucose-induced activation of IL-1βand caspase 3 in cardiomyocytes.Furthermore,JPQHF downregulated

This paper proposes a new global fixed-time sliding mode control strategy for the trajectory tracking control of uncertain robotic manipulators.First,a fixed-time disturbance observer(FTDO) is designed to deal with the adverse effects of model uncertainties and external disturbances in the manipulator systems.Then an adaptive scheme is used and the adaptive FTDO(AFTDO) is developed,so that the priori knowledge of the lumped disturbance is not required.Further,a new non-singular fast terminal sliding mode(NFTSM) surface is designed by using an arctan function,which helps to overcome the singularity problem and enhance the robustness of the system.Based on the estimation of the lumped disturbance by the AFTDO,a fixed-time non-singular fast terminal sliding mode controller(FTNFTSMC)is developed to guarantee the trajectory tracking errors converge to zero within a fixed time.The settling time is independent of the initial state of the system.In addition,the stability of the AFTDO and FTNFTSMC is strictly proved by using Lyapunov method.Finally,the fixed-time NFESM(FTNFTSM) algorithm is validated on a 2-link manipulator and comparisons with other existing sliding mode controllers(SMCs) are performed.The comparative results confirm that the FTNFTSMC has superior control performance.

BACKGROUND For resectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),radical hepatectomy is commonly used as a curative treatment.However,postoperative recurrence significantly diminishes the overall survival(OS)of HCC patients,especially with microva-scular invasion(MVI)as an independent high-risk factor for recurrence.While some studies suggest that postoperative adjuvant therapy may decrease the risk of recurrence following liver resection in HCC patients,the specific role of adju-vant therapies in those with MVI remains unclear.AIM To conduct a network meta-analysis(NMA)to evaluate the efficacy of various adjuvant therapies and determine the optimal adjuvant regimen.METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted on PubMed,EMBASE,and Web of Science until April 6,2023.Studies comparing different adjuvant therapies or comparing adjuvant therapy with hepatectomy alone were included.Hazard ratios(HRs)with 95%confidence intervals were used to combine data on recurrence free survival and OS in both pairwise meta-analyses and NMA.RESULTS Fourteen eligible trials(2268 patients)reporting five different therapies were included.In terms of reducing the risk of recurrence,radiotherapy(RT)[HR=0.34(0.23,0.5);surface under the cumulative ranking curve(SUCRA)=97.7%]was found to be the most effective adjuvant therapy,followed by hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy[HR=0.52(0.35,0.76);SUCRA=65.1%].Regarding OS improvement,RT[HR:0.35(0.2,0.61);SUCRA=93.1%]demonstrated the highest effectiveness,followed by sorafenib[HR=0.48(0.32,0.69);SUCRA=70.9%].INTRODUCTION Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the sixth most common malignant tumor in the world and ranks third in terms of worldwide malignant tumor mortality rates in 2020[1].Curative treatments for HCC include ablation,radical hepatectomy,and liver transplantation.However,ablation is suitable only for early-stage HCC patients,who represent a small percentage of the overall HCC population.Although liver transplantation serves as the optimal treatment for HCC patients,the scarcity of donor or
