Evaluation of high-temperature tensile behavior for metal foils by a novel resistance heating assisted tensile testing system using samples with optimized structures

To evaluate the tensile behavior of metal foils by resistance heating(RH)assisted tensile testing system accurately,this study proposed to embed a digital image correlation(DIC)system with laser speckles for the measurement of full-field strain ***,the sample structures were optimized to achieve uniform temperature and strain *** infrared camera was used to monitor the temperature *** samples instead of dog-bone shaped samples were proposed.A model for calculating the temperature distribution was established to optimize the sample *** parameters that influence the temperature distribution and tensile behavior were *** results,compared to the strain measured by a non-contact extensometer,the maximum deviation of the strain measured by DIC was less than 6%when the nominal strain was larger than *** is confirmed that the proposed tensile testing system is reliable for measuring the temperature and full-field strain *** shape influenced temperature distributions of smaller samples while it almost had no influence on the temperature distributions of larger *** temperature difference was not affected by the material type but by the sample *** proposed rectangular shape was validated to be feasible for RH assisted tensile *** sample length was successfully optimized for a more uniform temperature distribution by the established *** the tensile deformation was not influenced by the sample shape,the temperature distribution resulted in a non-uniform strain distribution before achieving ultimate tensile *** effective sample length between two clamping jigs contributed to a more uniform temperature distribution and material deformation.A more accurate evaluation of high-temperature tensile behavior for metal foils can be achieved by the proposed RH assisted tensile testing system using rectangular samples with an optimized structure.

Explicit G2-constrained Merging of a Pair of Bezier Curves by Control Point Optimization

This paper presents a simple and explicit method for G~2-constrained merging of a pair of Bezier curves by minimizing the l_2 distance defined in terms of control points. After expressing the l_2 distance as a quadratic function of two parameters, the optimally merged curve can be explicitly obtained, which is achieved by control point optimization such that the l_2 distance is minimized. The existence of the unique solution is shown by proving that the l_2 distance is convex. The proposed method is explicit and efficient since it is non-iterative and expressed by known control points. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the new method.

Numerical simulation of the effects of global warming on vegetation in Asia

The response of vegetation to global warming is closely related to human living environment,and uncertainty in understanding the response *** study aims to investigate the effects of CO_(2),temperature and precipitation changes under global warming on natural vegetation in *** biophysical/dynamic vegetation model SSiB4/TRIFFID was employed to perform numerical experiments under different climate scenarios for Asia using the Princeton global forcing dataset(1948–2006).The results showed that precipitation and CO_(2) were the key factors for vegetation *** effect of temperature on natural vegetation varied among the study ***,an increase in temperature was conducive to vegetation growth in eastern Asia,but not in the arid and semi-arid areas of western *** arid and semi-arid areas or in the vicinity of desert,the forcing effects of temperature,precipitation and CO_(2) were more remarkable,which led to a noticeable change in the area of bare *** terms of the distribution of vegetation species,the above forcing had a greater impact on shrubs,C3 grasses and C4 plants,but less of an impact on broadleaf and coniferous *** was also found that,although there was a notable positive correlation between precipitation and vegetation leaf area index in northern high latitudes,the vegetation cover did not increase with precipitation,which was countered by the negative effect of surface cooling in summer.

In this paper, we establish a general representation theorem for generator of backward stochastic differential equation（BSDE）, whose generator has a quadratic growth in z. As some applications, we obtain a general converse comparison theorem of such quadratic BSDEs and uniqueness theorem, translation invariance for quadratic g-expectation.

Alteration in Secondary Wall Deposition by Overexpression of the Fragile Fiber1 Kinesin-Like Protein in Arabidopsis

Secondary walls in fibers and vessels are typically deposited in three distinct layers, which are formed by the successive re-orientation of cellulose microfibrils. Although cortical microtubules have been implicated in this process, the underlying mechanisms for the formation of three distinct wall layers are not known. The Fragile Fiber1 （FRA1） kinesin-like protein has been previously shown to be involved in the oriented deposition of cellulose microfibrils and important for cell wall strength in Arabidopsis thaliana. In the present report, we investigated the expression pattern of the FRA 1 gene and studied the effects of FRA1 overexpression on secondary wall deposition. The FRAI gene was found to be expressed not only in cells undergoing secondary wall deposition including developing interfascicular fibers and xylem cells, but also in dividing cells and expanding/elongating parenchyma cells. Overexpression of FRA1 caused a severe reduction in the thickness of secondary walls in interfascicular fibers and deformation of vessels, which are accompanied with a marked decrease in stem strength. Close examination of secondary walls revealed that unlike the wild-type walls having three typical layers with the middle layer being the thickest, the secondary walls in FRA1 overexpressors exhibited an increased number of layers, all of which had a similar width. Together, these results provide further evidence implicating an important role of the FRA1 kinesin-like protein in the ordered deposition of secondary walls, which determines the strength of fibers and vessels.

Partial embolization as re-treatment of hypersplenism after unsuccessful splenic artery ligation

Ligation of splenic artery(LSA) is used for the treatment of liver cirrhosis with hypersplenism. However, hypersplenism is not significantly improved following LSA treatment in some cases, and there are few reports of retreatment of hypersplenism after LSA. We report the case of a47-year-old man with liver cirrhosis and hypersplenism who underwent LSA treatment, but did not significantly improve. Laboratory tests revealed severe leukocytopeniaand thrombocytopenia. Celiac computed tomography arteriogram and digital subtraction angiography revealed two compensatory arteries connected to the hilar splenic artery from the left gastro-epiploic artery and from the dorsal pancreatic artery. Partial splenic embolization(PSE) was performed through the compensatory arteries. As a result, the patient achieved partial splenic ischemic infarction, and white blood cell and platelet counts rose and remained in the normal range. PSE is an effective therapeutic modality for the retreatment of hypersplenism when other modalities have failed.

Preoperative diabetes as a protective factor for pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy: a meta-analysis

BACKGROUND： The role of diabetes mellitus （DM） in pancreatic fistula （PF） or clinical relevant PF （CR-PF） after pancreaticoduodenectomy （PD） or pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy （PPPD） is unclear. We conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the relationship between DM and PF or *** SOURCES： Embase, MEDLINE and Cochrane databases were searched systematically for relevant articles from January 2005 to June 2013. The selected studies that examined clinical risk factors of PF or CR-PF were included. We created pooled estimates for our outcomes using the random-effects model. RESULTS： Sixteen observational clinical studies were included. Pooling of PF rates from ten studies revealed that DM was associated with a decreased risk of PF （P=0.01）. CR-PF rates from 8 studies showed no significant difference between DM and control group （P=0.14）. CONCLUSIONS： DM is not a risk factor for PF in patients undergoing PD or PPPD. On the contrary, patients without DM are at a higher risk of PF because the pancreases in these patients have more fatty tissue and the pancreas is soft.
