We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

Objective Unbiased next generation sequencing（NGS） is susceptible to interference from host or environmental sequences. Consequently, background depletion and virome enrichment techniques are usually needed for clinical samples where viral load is much lower than background sequences. Methods A viral Sequence Independent Targeted Amplification（VSITA） approach using a set of non-ribosomal and virus-enriched octamers（V8） was developed and compared with traditionally used random hexamers（N6）. Forty-five archived clinical samples of different types were used in parallel to compare the V8 and N6 enrichment performance of viral sequences and removal performance of ribosomal sequences in the step of reverse transcription followed by quantitative PCR（qP CR）. Ten sera samples from patients with fever of unknown origin and 10 feces samples from patients with diarrhea of unknown origin were used in comparison of V8 and N6 enrichment performance following NGS analysis. Results A minimum 30 hexamers matching to viral reference sequences（sense and antisense） were selected from a dataset of random 4,096（4~6） hexamers（N6）. Two random nucleotides were added to the 5＇ end of the selected hexamers, and 480（30 × 4~2） octamers（V8） were obtained. In general, VSITA approach showed higher enrichment of virus-targeted c DNA and enhanced ability to remove unwanted ribosomal sequences in the majorities of 45 predefined clinical samples. Moreover, VSITA combined with NGS enabled to detect not only more viruses but also achieve more viral reads hit and higher viral genome coverage in 20 clinical samples with diarrhea or fever of unknown origin. Conclusion The VSITA approach designed in this study is demonstrated to possess higher sensitivity and broader genome coverage than traditionally used random hexamers in the NGS-based identification of viral pathogens directly from clinical samples.

Background Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) causes the myocardium to rely on fatty acid β-oxidation for energy. The accumulation of intracellular lipids and fatty acids in the myocardium usually results in lipotoxicity, which impairs myocardial function. Adipsin may play an important protective role in the pathogenesis of DCM. Objectives:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Qishen Yiqi Dripping Pill(QSYQ)in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS)after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).Methods:This multicentre prospective cohort study was conducted at 40 centers in *** with ACS after PCI entered either the QSYQ or Western medicine(WM)groups naturally based on whether they had received QSYQ before *** group received QSYQ(0.52 g,3 times a day for 12 months)in addition to *** primary endpoint included cardiac death,non-fatal myocardial infarction,and urgent *** secondary endpoint included rehospitalization due to ACS,heart failure,stroke,and other thrombotic *** of life was assessed by the Seattle Angina Questionnaire(SAQ).Results:A total of 936 patients completed follow-up of the primary endpoint from February 2012 to December ***,487 patients received QSYQ and *** a median follow-up of 566 days(inter quartile range,IQR,517–602),the primary endpoint occurred in 46(9.45%)and 65(14.48%)patients in QSYQ and WM groups respectively[adjusted hazard ratio(HR)0.60,95%confidence interval(CI)0.41–0.90;P=0.013].The secondary endpoint occurred in 61(12.53%)and 74(16.48%)patients in QSYQ and WM groups,respectively(adjusted HR 0.76,95%CI 0.53–1.09;P=0.136).In sensitivity analysis,the results still demonstrated that WM combined with QSYQ reduced the risk of the primary endpoint(HR 0.67,95%CI 0.46–0.98;P=0.039).Moreover,QSYQ improved the disease perception domain of the SAQ(P<0.05).Conclusions:In patients with ACS after PCI,QSYQ combined with WM reduced the incidence of the primary *** findings provide a promising option for managing ACS after PCI and suggest the potential treatment for reducing the risk of primary endpoint included cardiac death,non-fatal myocardial infarction,and urgent revascularization through intermittent administration of QSYQ.(Registration *** CTR-OOC-14005552).

Dissection of the superior mesenteric artery （SMA） not associated aortic dissection is an uncommon event. The pathogenesis remains unclear. Diagnosis has become more efficient due to recent advances in imaging techniques and increased awareness of mesenteric vessel diseases. Early recognition has led to early interventions. Although there is still no consensus on the best option of management for this disease, an increasing number of patients in recent years have been reported to be treated successfully by non-operative approaches （medical therapy and/or percutaneous endovascular repair） rather than operations. We report the diagnosis and non-operative managements of isolated dissection of SMA in the acute stage in two cases at the First Hospital of China Medical University from October to December in 2006.

We report a reconstruction method for fast-fission events in 25 MeV/u^(86)Kr +^(208)Pb reactions at the Compact Spectrometer for Heavy Ion Experiment(CSHINE). The fission fragments(FFs) are measured using three large-area parallel-plate avalanche counters, which can deliver the position and arrival timing information of the fragments. The start timing information is provided by the radio frequency of the cyclotron. Fission events were reconstructed using the velocities of the two FFs. The broadening of both the velocity distribution and azimuthal difference of the FFs decreases with the folding angle, in accordance with the picture that fast fission occurs. The anisotropic angular distribution of the fission axis also consistently reveals the dynamic features of fission events.
