Solidification and utilization of water-based drill cuttings to prepare ceramsite proppant with low-density and high performance

Water-based drill cuttings(WBDC)and bauxite are used as raw materials to prepare proppants with low density and high performance.The effects of sintering temperature,sintering period,mixture ratios of materials,doping with iron oxide,and acid modification of WBDC on the properties of proppants are discussed.The proppant performance is evaluated according to the national standard SY/T5108-2014.The morphology of the proppant is analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The crystal phase structure of the proppant is studied using X-ray diffraction(XRD).Thermal analysis of the proppant sintering process is performed using thermogravimetry(TG).Proppant Z-23 completely satisfied the SY/T5108-2014 standard.This study provides a new perspective for the resource utilization of water-based drill cuttings and preparation of low-density proppants.

This paper presents autonomous docking of an inhouse built resident Remotely Operated Vehicle(ROV),called Rover ROV,through acoustic guided techniques.A novel cage-type docking station has been developed.The docking station can be placed on a deep-sea lander,taking the Rover ROV to the seafloor.Instead of using vision-based pose estimation techniques and expensive navigation sensors,the Rover ROV docking adopts an ultra-short baseline(USBL)and low-cost inertial sensors to build an adaptive fault-tolerant integrated navigation system.To solve the problem of sonar-based failure positioning,the measurement residuals are exploited to detect measurement faults.Then,an adaptation scheme for estimating the statistical characteristics of noise in real-time is proposed,which can provide robust and smooth positioning results.It is more suitable for a compact and low-cost deep-sea resident ROV.Field experiments have been conducted successfully in the Qiandao Lake and the South China Sea area with a depth of 3000 m,respectively.The experimental results show that the functionality of autonomous docking has been achieved.Under the guidance of the navigation system,the Rover ROV can autonomously and efficiently return to the docking station within a range of 100 m even when the amounts of outliers exist in the acoustic positioning data.These achievements can be applied to current ROVs by an easy retrofit.

CuPbBi_(5)S_(9) compounds have been investigated as gladite for years.However,there have been no significant studies on their physical and chemical properties.This work demonstrates that upon alloying with moderate Cu,Pb,Bi,and S using an appropriate preparation method,quaternary CuPbBi_(5)S_(9) compounds can exhibit excellent figure of merit ZT within the temperature range 298-723 K.A low average velocity,low Young’s modulus and Debye temperature,and large Grüneisen parameter,determined experimentally,indicate strong lattice anharmonicity in CuPbBi_(5)S_(9) crystals.Furthermore,density functional theory calculations(local vibration of low-frequency acoustic phonons)justify the low lattice thermal conductivity of CuPbBi_(5)S_(9) compounds.Because of the low thermal conductivity(0.514 W m^(-1)K^(-1))and a relatively high power factor(293 μW m^(-1)K^(-2)),a maximum ZT of 0.42 was achieved at 723 K for CuPbBi_(5)S_(9) prepared by mechanical alloying combined with solid-state melting.Thus,CuPbBi_(5)S_(9) materials are promising candidates for use as high-performance thermoelectric materials in the intermediate-temperature range.

Studies on ischemia/reperfusion(I/R)injury suggest that exogenous neural stem cells(NSCs)are ideal candidates for stem cell therapy reperfusion injury.However,NSCs are difficult to obtain owing to ethical limitations.In addition,the survival,differentiation,and proliferation rates of transplanted exogenous NSCs are low,which limit their clinical application.Our previous study showed that neuregulin1β(NRG1β)alleviated cerebral I/R injury in rats.In this study,we aimed to induce human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells into NSCs and investigate the improvement effect and mechanism of NSCs pretreated with 10 nM NRG1βon PC12 cells injured by oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation(OGD/R).Our results found that 5 and 10 nM NRG1βpromoted the generation and proliferation of NSCs.Co-culture of NSCs and PC12 cells under condition of OGD/R showed that pretreatment of NSCs with NRG1βimproved the level of reactive oxygen species,malondialdehyde,glutathione,superoxide dismutase,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate,and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)and mitochondrial damage in injured PC12 cells;these indexes are related to ferroptosis.Research has reported that p53 and solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7A11)play vital roles in ferroptosis caused by cerebral I/R injury.Our data show that the expression of p53 was increased and the level of glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)was decreased after RNA interference-mediated knockdown of SLC7A11 in PC12 cells,but this change was alleviated after co-culturing NSCs with damaged PC12 cells.These findings suggest that NSCs pretreated with NRG1βexhibited neuroprotective effects on PC12 cells subjected to OGD/R through influencing the level of ferroptosis regulated by p53/SLC7A11/GPX4 pathway.

Viscum coloratum(Kom.)Nakai is a well-known medicinal hemiparasite widely distributed in Asia.The synthesis and accumulation of its metabolites are affected by both environmental factors and the host plants,while the latter of which is usually overlooked.The purpose of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the effects of host and habitat on the metabolites in V.coloratum through multiple chemical and biological approaches.The metabolite profile of V.coloratum harvested from three different host plants in two habitats were determined by multiple chemical methods including high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet(HPLC-UV),gas chromatography-flame ionization detector(GC-FID)and ultra-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-QTOF/MS).The differences in antioxidant efficacy of V.coloratum were determined based on multiple in vitro models.The multivariate statistical analysis and data fusion strategy were applied to analyze the differences in metabolite profile and antioxidant activity of V.coloratum.Results indicated that the metabolite profile obtained by various chemical approaches was simultaneously affected by host and environment factors,and the environment plays a key role.Meanwhile,three main differential metabolites between two environment groups were identified.The results of antioxidant assay indicated that the environment has greater effects on the biological activity of V.coloratum than the host.Therefore,we conclude that the integration of various chemical and biological approaches combined with multivariate statistical and data fusion analysis,which can determine the influences of host plant and habitat on the metabolites,is a powerful strategy to control the quality of semi-parasitic herbal medicine.

A novel approach of tight oil reservoirs stimulation based on fracture controlling optimization and design

To deal with the stress interference caused by simultaneous propagation of multiple fractures and the wettability reversal and physical property changes of the reservoir caused by fracturing fluid getting in during large-volume fracturing of tight oil reservoirs through a horizontal well, a non-planar 3D fracture growth model was built, wettability reversal characterizing parameters and change of relative permeability curve were introduced to correct the production prediction model of fractured horizontal well, a fracturing design optimization software(Fr Smart) by integrating geological and engineering data was developed, and a fracturing design optimization approach for tight oil reservoirs based on fracture control was worked out. The adaptability of the method was analyzed and the fracture parameters of horizontal wells in tight oil reservoirs were optimized. The simulation results show that fracturing technology based on fracture control is suitable for tight oil reservoirs, and by optimizing fracture parameters, this technology makes it possible to produce the maximum amount of reserves in the well-controlled unit of unconventional reservoirs. The key points of fracturing design optimization based on fracture control include increasing lateral length of and reducing the row spacing between horizontal wells, increasing perforation clusters in one stage to decrease the spacing of neighboring fractures, and also avoiding interference of old and new fracturing wells. Field tests show that this technology can increase single well production and ultimate recovery. Using this technology in developing unconventional resources such as tight oil reservoirs in China will enhance the economics significantly.

To the Editor:A 40-year-old Chinese woman who complained of chest pain and compression,dyspnea that lasted for 3 months,and abdominal distension that lasted for 2 weeks was admitted at our hospital in September 2015.In early June 2015,she felt pain and compression behind the sternum after deep inspiration.Echocardiography showed mild pericardial effusion with normal left ventricular ejection fraction 63%.In July,these symptoms gradually worsened,while laboratory tests showed no abnormalities during routine blood examination,or in liver,kidney and thyroid functions.

Background:Hypobaric hypoxia(HH)exposure at high altitudes can result in a decline in cognitive function,which may have a serious impact on the daily life of people who migrate to high altitudes.However,the specific HH-induced changes in brain function remain unclear.This study explored changes in brain activity in rats exposed to a sustained HH environment using functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI).Methods:Healthy male rats(8 weeks old)were randomly divided into a model group and a control group.A rat model of cognitive impairment induced by sustainedHHexposure was established.The control and model groups completed training and testing in the Morris water maze(MWM).A two-sample t-test for between-group difference comparisons was performed.Repeated measures analyses of variance for within-group comparisons were performed and post-hoc comparisons were made using the Tukey test.Between-group differences in spontaneous brain activity were assessed using a voxel-wise analysis of resting-state fMRI(rs-fMRI),combined with analyses of the fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuations(fALFF)in statistical parametric mapping.Results:In the MWM test,the escape latencies of the model group were significantly longer compared with those of the control group(control group vs.model group,day 1:21.6±3.3 s vs.40.5±3.4 s,t=–11.282;day 2:13.5±2.2 s vs.28.7±5.3 s,t=–7.492;day 3:10.5±2.8 s vs.22.6±6.1 s,t=–5.099;day 4:9.7±2.5 s vs.18.6±5.2 s,t=–4.363;day 5:8.8±2.7 s vs.16.7±5.0 s,t=–3.932;all P<0.001).Within both groups,the escape latency at day 5 was significantly shorter than those at other time points(control group:F=57.317,P<0.001;model group:F=50.718,P<0.001).There was no within-group difference in average swimming speed(control group,F=1.162,P=0.956;model group,F=0.091,P=0.880).Within the model group,the time spent within the original platform quadrant was significantly shorter(control group vs.model group:36.1±5.7 s vs.17.8±4.3 s,t=7.249,P<0.001)and the frequency of crossing the original platform quadrant was signi
