An efficient and innovative catalytic reactor for VOCs emission control

Efficient mixing and thermal control are important in the flow reactor for obtaining a high product yield and selectivity.Here,we report a heterogeneous chemical kinetic study of propene oxidation within a newly designed catalytic jet-stirred reactor(CJSR).To better understand the interplay between the catalytic performances and properties,the CuO thin films have been characterized and the adsorbed energies of propene on the adsorbed and lattice oxygen were calculated using density functional theory(DFT)method.Structure and morphology analyses revealed a monoclinic structure with nano-crystallite size and porous microstructure,which is responsible for holding an important quantity of adsorbed oxygen.The residence time inside the flow CJSR(1.12–7.84 s)makes it suitable for kinetic study and gives guidance for scale-up.The kinetic study revealed that using CJSR the reaction rate increases with O_2concentration that is commonly not achievable for catalytic flow tube reactor,whereas the reaction rate tends to increase slightly above 30%of O_2due to the catalyst surface saturation.Moreover,DFT calculations demonstrated that adsorbed oxygen is the most involved oxygen,and it has found that the pathway of producing propene oxide makes the reaction of C_3H_6over CuO surface more likely to proceed.Accordingly,these findings revealed that CJSR combined with theoretical calculation is suitable for kinetic study,which can pave the way to investigate the kinetic study of other exhaust gases.

Role of copper grid mesh in the catalytic oxidation of CO over one-step synthesized Cu-Fe-Co ternary oxides thin film

The effective valuation of catalyst supports in the catalytic oxidation makes the contribution to understand the support effect of great interest.Here,the role of active substrate in the performance and stability of CuFe-Co ternary oxides was studied towards the complete catalytic oxidation of CO.The Cu-Fe-Co oxide thin films were deposited on copper grid mesh(CUGM)using one-step pulsed-spray evaporation chemical vapor deposition method.Crystalline structure and morphology analyses revealed nano-crystallite sizes and do me-top-like morphology.Synergistic effects between Cu,Fe and Co,which affect the surface Cu^2+,Fe^3+,Co^3+and chemisorbed oxygen species(O2 and OH)of thin films over the active support and thus result in better reducibility.The thin film catalysts supported on CUGM exhibited attractive catalytic activity compared to the te rnary oxides supported on ine rt grid mesh at a high gas hourly space velocity.Moreove r,the stability in time-on-stream of the ternary oxides on CUGM was evaluated in the CO oxidation for 30 h.The ad opted deposition strategy ofternary oxides on CUGM presents an excessive amount of adsorbed active oxygen species that play an impo rtant role in the complete CO oxidation.The catalysts supported on CUGM showed better catalytic conve rsion than that on inert grid mesh and some literature-reported noble metal oxides as well as transition metal oxides counterparts,revealing the beneficial effect of the CUGM suppo rt in the improvement of the catalytic performance.

First Passage Density of Brownian Motion with Two-sided Piecewise Linear Boundaries

The first passage time has many applications in fields like finance,econometrics,statistics,and biology.However,explicit formulas for the first passage density have only been obtained for a few cases.This paper derives an explicit formula for the first passage density of Brownian motion with twosided piecewise continuous boundaries which may have some points of discontinuity.Approximations are used to obtain a simplified formula for estimating the first passage density.Moreover,the results are also generalized to the case of two-sided general nonlinear boundaries.Simulations can be easily carried out with Monte Carlo method and it is demonstrated for several typical two-sided boundaries that the proposed approximation method offers a highly accurate approximation of first passage density.

Dear Editor,Secondary penile cancer is an extremely rare condition that refers to the metastasis of other malignancies to the penis.There are limited reports on secondary penile cancer in Asian populations,and perceptions about this disease are extremely scarce.We reviewed and analyzed the data of patients diagnosed with secondary penile cancer based on the pathological findings at Peking University First Hospital in Beijing,China,aiming to expand the clinical reference for this rare disease.

Epilepsy can be defined as a dysfunction of the brain network,and each type of epilepsy involves different brain-network changes that are implicated diffe rently in the control and propagation of interictal or ictal discharges.Gaining more detailed information on brain network alterations can help us to further understand the mechanisms of epilepsy and pave the way for brain network-based precise therapeutic approaches in clinical practice.An increasing number of advanced neuroimaging techniques and electrophysiological techniques such as diffusion tensor imaging-based fiber tra ctography,diffusion kurtosis imaging-based fiber tractography,fiber ball imagingbased tra ctography,electroencephalography,functional magnetic resonance imaging,magnetoencephalography,positron emission tomography,molecular imaging,and functional ultrasound imaging have been extensively used to delineate epileptic networks.In this review,we summarize the relevant neuroimaging and neuroelectrophysiological techniques for assessing structural and functional brain networks in patients with epilepsy,and extensively analyze the imaging mechanisms,advantages,limitations,and clinical application ranges of each technique.A greater focus on emerging advanced technologies,new data analysis software,a combination of multiple techniques,and the construction of personalized virtual epilepsy models can provide a theoretical basis to better understand the brain network mechanisms of epilepsy and make surgical decisions.

Background:The effects of acupuncture have varied in different randomized controlled trials(RCTs),and there are many factors that influence treatment effect of acupuncture in different outcomes,with conflicting results.Objective:To identify factors and their impact on the treatment effect of acupuncture in different outcomes.Methods:Acupuncture RCTs were searched from 7 databases including Medline(Pub Med),Embase,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang Database,VIP Database,and China Biology Medicine disc between January 1st,2015 and December 31st,2019.Eligible studies must compare acupuncture to no acupuncture,sham acupuncture,or waiting lists,and report at least 1patient-important outcome.A multi-level meta-regression was conducted using a 3-level robust mixed model and univariate analyses were performed for all independent variables,even those excluded from the multivariable model due to collinearities.We used thresholds of 0.2 and 0.4 for the difference of standardized mean differences(SMDs),categorising them as small(0.4) effects.Results:The pain construct analysis involved 211 effect estimates from 153 studies and 14 independent variables.High-frequency acupuncture treatment sessions produced larger effects compared to low-frequency sessions [large magnitude,the difference of adjusted SMDs 0.46,95% confidence interval(CI) 0.07 to 0.84;P=0.02].The non-pain symptoms construct analysis comprised 323 effect estimates from 231 studies and 15 independent variables.Penetrating acupuncture showed moderately larger effects when compared to non-penetrating acupuncture(0.30,95% CI 0.06 to 0.53;P=0.01).The function construct analysis included 495 effect estimates from 274 studies and 14 independent variables.Penetrating acupuncture and the flexible acupuncture regimen showed moderately larger effects,compared to non-penetrating acupuncture and fixed regimen,respectively(0.40,95% CI 0 to 0.80;P=0.05;0.29,95% CI 0.06 to 0.53;P=0.01).

What benefit can be obtained from magnetic resonance imaging diagnosis with artificial intelligence in prostate cancer compared with clinical assessments?

The present study aimed to explore the potential of artificial intelligence(AI)methodology based on magnetic resonance(MR)images to aid in the management of prostate cancer(PCa).To this end,we reviewed and summarized the studies comparing the diagnostic and predictive performance for PCa between AI and common clinical assessment methods based on MR images and/or clinical characteristics,thereby investigating whether AI methods are generally superior to common clinical assessment methods for the diagnosis and prediction fields of PCa.First,we found that,in the included studies of the present study,AI methods were generally equal to or better than the clinical assessment methods for the risk assessment of PCa,such as risk stratification of prostate lesions and the prediction of therapeutic outcomes or PCa progression.In particular,for the diagnosis of clinically significant PCa,the AI methods achieved a higher summary receiver operator characteristic curve(SROC-AUC)than that of the clinical assessment methods(0.87 vs.0.82).For the prediction of adverse pathology,the AI methods also achieved a higher SROC-AUC than that of the clinical assessment methods(0.86 vs.0.75).Second,as revealed by the radiomics quality score(RQS),the studies included in the present study presented a relatively high total average RQS of 15.2(11.0–20.0).Further,the scores of the individual RQS elements implied that the AI models in these studies were constructed with relatively perfect and standard radiomics processes,but the exact generalizability and clinical practicality of the AI models should be further validated using higher levels of evidence,such as prospective studies and open-testing datasets.

Site-specific incorporation of reduction-controlled guest amino acids into proteins for cucurbituril recognition

Protein recognition using host-guest recognition approach is of great interest but has been limited mainly to the protein N-terminal residues.Here,we site-specific incorporated two novel non-canonical amino acids containing supramolecular guest motifs into protein via an expanded genetic code.Through Staudinger reduction reactions,the encoded unnatural residues on protein becoming activated and can be specifically recognized by cucurbit[7]uril(CB[7])and cucurbit[8]uril(CB[8]).We demonstrated that enzyme containing guest amino acid incorporated near the active site can be reversibly regulated by CB[7]recognition,and CB[8]recognition induces protein dimerization.These amino acids will make useful addition to the supramolecular toolbox for protein targeting using molecular recognition approaches.

Data-driven rational design of single-atom materials for hydrogen evolution and sensing

Herein we proposed a data-driven high-throughput principle to screen high-performance single-atom materials for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and hydrogen sensing by combing the theoretical computations and a topology-based multi-scale convolution kernel machine learning algorithm.After the rational training by 25 groups of data and prediction of all 168 groups of single-atom materials for HER and sensing,respectively,a high prediction accuracy(>0.931 R^(2) score)was achieved by our model.Results show that the promising HER catalysts include Pt atoms in C_(4) and Sc atoms in C_(1)N_(3) coordination environment.Moreover,Y atoms in C_(4) coordination environment and Cd atoms in C_(2)N_(2)-ortho coordination environment were predicted with great potential as hydrogen sensing materials.This method provides a way to accelerate the discovery of innovative materials by avoiding the time-consuming empirical principles in experiments.
