Bioinspired Ultrasensitive Flexible Strain Sensors for Real‑Time Wireless Detection of Liquid Leakage

Liquid leakage of pipeline networks not only results in considerableresource wastage but also leads to environmental pollution and ecological *** response to this global issue, a bioinspired superhydrophobic thermoplastic polyurethane/carbon nanotubes/graphene nanosheets flexible strain sensor (TCGS) hasbeen developed using a combination of micro-extrusion compression molding andsurface modification for real-time wireless detection of liquid leakage. The TCGSutilizes the synergistic effects of Archimedean spiral crack arrays and micropores,which are inspired by the remarkable sensory capabilities of scorpions. This designachieves a sensitivity of 218.13 at a strain of 2%, which is an increase of 4300%. Additionally, it demonstrates exceptional durability bywithstanding over 5000 usage cycles. The robust superhydrophobicity of the TCGS significantly enhances sensitivity and stability indetecting small-scale liquid leakage, enabling precise monitoring of liquid leakage across a wide range of sizes, velocities, and compositionswhile issuing prompt alerts. This provides critical early warnings for both industrial pipelines and potential liquid leakage scenariosin everyday life. The development and utilization of bioinspired ultrasensitive flexible strain sensors offer an innovative and effectivesolution for the early wireless detection of liquid leakage.

Downregulation of EphB2 by RNA interference attenuates glial/fibrotic scar formation and promotes axon growth

The rapid formation of a glial/fibrotic scar is one of the main factors hampering axon growth after spinal cord injury. The bidirectional Eph B2/ephrin-B2 signaling of the fibroblast-astrocyte contact-dependent interaction is a trigger for glial/fibrotic scar formation. In the present study, a new in vitro model was produced by coculture of fibroblasts and astrocytes wounded by scratching to mimic glial/fibrotic scar-like structures using an improved slide system. After treatment with RNAi to downregulate Eph B2, changes in glial/fibrotic scar formation and the growth of VSC4.1 motoneuron axons were examined. Following RNAi treatment, fibroblasts and astrocytes dispersed without forming a glial/fibrotic scar-like structure. Furthermore, the expression levels of neurocan, NG2 and collagen I in the coculture were reduced, and the growth of VSC4.1 motoneuron axons was enhanced. These findings suggest that suppression of Eph B2 expression by RNAi attenuates the formation of a glial/fibrotic scar and promotes axon growth. This study was approved by the Laboratory Animal Ethics Committee of Jiangsu Province, China(approval No. 2019-0506-002) on May 6, 2019.

MicroRNA-mediated Silencing of RhoC Inhibits Tumor Invasion and Increases Chemosensitivity to Paclitaxel in SKOV3 Cells in vitro

RhoC is a member of the Ras-homologous family of genes which are implicated in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Up-regulation of RhoC is associated with tumor progression in ovarian carcinoma and RhoC is significantly correlated with the invasive capability of ovarian cancer cell lines in vitro, We developed a system that blocks RhoC in the human ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells using specific MicroRNA（miRNA） interference. By transfecting SKOV3 cells with the plasmid vector to express specific MiRNA that targets human RhoC, we were able to establish a stable clone in which RhoC expression was significantly downregulated. This resulted in the decreased invasive potential of SKOV3 cells as well as increased chemosensitivity to paclitaxel. RhoC involves in invasion and chemosensitivity of SKOV3, indicating that RhoC may be a promising therapeutic target for ovarian cancer.

Enhancement of motor functional recovery in thoracic spinal cord injury: voluntary wheel running versus forced treadmill exercise

Spinal cord injury necessitates effective rehabilitation strategies, with exercise therapies showing promise in promoting recovery. This study investigated the impact of rehabilitation exercise on functional recovery and morphological changes following thoracic contusive spinal cord injury. After a 7-day recovery period after spinal cord injury, mice were assigned to either a trained group(10 weeks of voluntary running wheel or forced treadmill exercise) or an untrained group. Bi-weekly assessments revealed that the exercise-trained group, particularly the voluntary wheel exercise subgroup, displayed significantly improved locomotor recovery, more plasticity of dopaminergic and serotonin modulation compared with the untrained group. Additionally, exercise interventions led to gait pattern restoration and enhanced transcranial magnetic motor-evoked potentials. Despite consistent injury areas across groups, exercise training promoted terminal innervation of descending axons. In summary, voluntary wheel exercise shows promise for enhancing outcomes after thoracic contusive spinal cord injury, emphasizing the role of exercise modality in promoting recovery and morphological changes in spinal cord injuries. Our findings will influence future strategies for rehabilitation exercises, restoring functional movement after spinal cord injury.

Pairwise tagging framework for end-to-end emotion-cause pair extraction

Emotion-cause pair extraction(ECPE)aims to extract all the pairs of emotions and corresponding causes in a *** generally contains three subtasks,emotions extraction,causes extraction,and causal relations detection between emotions and *** works adopt pipelined approaches or multi-task learning to address the ECPE ***,the pipelined approaches easily suffer from error propagation in real-world *** multi-task learning cannot optimize all tasks globally and may lead to suboptimal extraction *** address these issues,we propose a novel framework,Pairwise Tagging Framework(PTF),tackling the complete emotion-cause pair extraction in one unified tagging *** prior works,PTF innovatively transforms all subtasks of ECPE,i.e.,emotions extraction,causes extraction,and causal relations detection between emotions and causes,into one unified clause-pair tagging *** this unified tagging task,we can optimize the ECPE task globally and extract more accurate emotion-cause *** validate the feasibility and effectiveness of PTF,we design an end-to-end PTF-based neural network and conduct experiments on the ECPE benchmark *** experimental results show that our method outperforms pipelined approaches significantly and typical multi-task learning approaches.

A strategy resisting wrinkling of sandwich structures reinforced using functionally-graded carbon nanotubes

Sandwich structures have been widely applied in the wing and the horizontal tail of the aircraft,so face sheets of such structure might occur wrinkling deformation in the process of service,which will largely decrease capability of sustaining *** a result,this paper aims at proposing a reasonable strategy resisting wrinkling deformation of sandwich *** this end,an enhanced higher-order model has been proposed for wrinkling analysis of sandwich *** behaviors of a five-layer sandwich plate are firstly analyzed,which is utilized to assess performance of the proposed ***,wrinkling behaviors of four sandwich plates are further investigated by utilizing present model,which have been evaluated by using quasi threedimensional(3D)elasticity solutions,3D Finite Element Method(3D-FEM)results and experimental ***,the present model is utilized to study the buckling and the wrinkling behaviors of sandwich plates reinforced by Carbon Nano Tubes(CNTs).In addition,influence of distribution profile of CNTs on wrinkling behaviors has been analyzed,and a typical distribution profile of CNTs has been chosen to resist wrinkling *** increase of additional weight,the present strategy can effectively resist wrinkling deformation of sandwich plates,which is rarely reported in published literature.

Twisted graphene multilayers exhibit strongly correlated insulating states and superconductivity due to the presence of ultraflat bands near the charge neutral *** this paper,the response of ultraflat bands to lattice relaxation and a magnetic field in twisted trilayer graphene(tTLG)with different stacking arrangements is investigated by using a full tight-binding *** show that lattice relaxations are indispensable for understanding the electronic properties of tTLG,in particular,of tTLG in the presence of mirror *** relaxations renormalize the quasiparticle spectrum near the Fermi energy and change the localization of higher energy flat ***,different from the twisted bilayer graphene,the Hofstadter butterfly spectrum can be realized at laboratory accessible strengths of magnetic *** work verifies tTLG as a more tunable platform than the twisted bilayer graphene in strongly correlated phenomena.
