Sub-nanometer structured silicon-carbon composite nanolayers armoring on graphite for fast-charging and high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries

Silicon/carbon composites are promising alternatives to current graphite anodes in commercial lithiumion batteries(liBs)because of their high capacity and excellent safety.Nevertheless,the unsatisfactory fastcharging capability and cycle stability of Si/C composites caused by slow charge transport capability and huge volume change under industrial electrode conditions severely hamper their development.Here,a novel Si/C anode was fabricated by homogeneously depositing amorphous C-Si nanolayers on graphite(C-Si@graphite).C-Si nanolayers with uniformly dispersed sub-nanometer Si particles in 3D carbon skeleton significantly boost electron and li-ion transport and efficiently relieve Si's agglomeration and volume change.As a result,the tailored C-Si@graphite electrodes show an excellent rate capacity(760.3 mAh·g^(-1)at 5.0C)and long cycle life of over 1000 cycles at 1.0C and800 cycles at 2.0C under industrial electrode conditions.In addition,the assembled full cells(C-Si@graphite,anode;li[Ni_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)]O_(2),cathode)present superior fastcharging capability(240.4 Wh·kg^(-1),charging for16.2 min,3.0C)and long cycle life(80.7%capacity retention after 500 cycles at 1.0C),demonstrating the massive potential of C-Si@graphite for practical application.

We will introduce the construction and design of a new simultaneous three-channel multicolor CCD photometer.This photometer has been mounted on the 1.2 m telescope at Jilin Astronomical Observatory,and is applied to study space debris,gamma-ray burst afterglows,asteroids and other rapidly variable objects.As one of the ground follow-up telescopes of the Chinese-French Space-based multi-band astronomical Variable Objects Monitor(SVOM)mission,it appears very essential to evaluate the performance of the photometry system of this photometer,which can achieve simultaneous imaging within a field of view of 21’.5×21’.5,21’.5×21’.5 and21’.3×21’.3 in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS)g’,r’,i’bands,respectively.Photometric calibrations were carried out by using plenty of SDSS standard stars,and the relationship between the photometric system and the Johnson-Bessel filter system was also studied.The results of the performance evaluation from observing open cluster M67 are presented.

An integrated strategy for comprehensive characterization of metabolites and metabolic profiles of bufadienolides from Venenum Bufonis in rats

Comprehensive characterization of metabolites and metabolic profiles in plasma has considerable significance in determining the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in vivo.However,this process is usually hindered by the insufficient characteristic fragments of metabolites,ubiquitous matrix interference,and complicated screening and identification procedures for metabolites.In this study,an effective strategy was established to systematically characterize the metabolites,deduce the metabolic pathways,and describe the metabolic profiles of bufadienolides isolated from Venenum Bufonis in vivo.The strategy was divided into five steps.First,the blank and test plasma samples were injected into an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography/linear trap quadrupole-orbitrap-mass spectrometry(MS)system in the full scan mode continuously five times to screen for valid matrix compounds and metabolites.Second,an extension-mass defect filter model was established to obtain the targeted precursor ions of the list of bufadienolide metabolites,which reduced approximately 39%of the interfering ions.Third,an acquisition model was developed and used to trigger more tandem MS(MS/MS)fragments of precursor ions based on the targeted ion list.The acquisition mode enhanced the acquisition capability by approximately four times than that of the regular data-dependent acquisition mode.Fourth,the acquired data were imported into Compound Discoverer software for identification of metabolites with metabolic network prediction.The main in vivo metabolic pathways of bufadienolides were elucidated.A total of 147 metabolites were characterized,and the main biotransformation reactions of bufadienolides were hydroxylation,dihydroxylation,and isomerization.Finally,the main prototype bufadienolides in plasma at different time points were determined using LC-MS/MS,and the metabolic profiles were clearly identified.This strategy could be widely used to elucidate the metabolic profiles of TCM preparations or Chinese patent medicines

Despite the diverse roles of tripartite motif(Trim)-containing proteins in the regulation of autophagy,the innate immune response,and cell differentiation,their roles in skeletal diseases are largely unknown.We recently demonstrated that Trim21 plays a crucial role in regulating osteoblast(OB)differentiation in osteosarcoma.However,how Trim21 contributes to skeletal degenerative disorders,including osteoporosis,remains unknown.First,human and mouse bone specimens were evaluated,and the results showed that Trim21 expression was significantly elevated in bone tissues obtained from osteoporosis patients.Next,we found that global knockout of the Trim21 gene(KO,Trim2^(1-/-))resulted in higher bone mass compared to that of the control littermates.We further demonstrated that loss of Trim21 promoted bone formation by enhancing the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)and elevating the activity of OBs;moreover,Trim21 depletion suppressed osteoclast(OC)formation of RAW264.7 cells.In addition,the differentiation of OCs from bone marrow-derived macrophages(BMMs)isolated from Trim21^(-/-)and Ctsk-cre;Trim21^(f/f)mice was largely compromised compared to that of the littermate control mice.Mechanistically,YAP1/β-catenin signaling was identified and demonstrated to be required for the Trim21-mediated osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs.More importantly,the loss of Trim21 prevented ovariectomy(OVX)-and lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced bone loss in vivo by orchestrating the coupling of OBs and OCs through YAP1 signaling.Our current study demonstrated that Trim21 is crucial for regulating OB-mediated bone formation and OC-mediated bone resorption,thereby providing a basis for exploring Trim21 as a novel dual-targeting approach for treating osteoporosis and pathological bone loss.

Exploration of Bioactive Constituents and Immunoregulatory Mechanisms of a Hanshi-Yufei Formulation for Treating COVID-19

Objective:The objective of this study was to characterize the chemical compounds of a Hanshi-Yufei formulation(HSYF;a modified formulation of a traditional Chinese medicine used for treating COVID-19)to elucidate the mechanism of action and to evaluate potential anti-inflammatory effects of HSYF.Materials and Methods:The chemical constituents of HSYF extract were characterized using UPLC-Q-TOF/MS.Subsequently,a set of TCM network pharmacology methods was applied to identify disease-associated genes and to predict target profiles and pharmacological actions associated with the constituents of HSYF.Then,the antiviral effects of HSYF on H1N1 were assessed in RAW264.7 cells using MTT assays.Expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin(IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αfollowing infection of RAW264.7 cells with H1N1 were measured using an enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay(EliSA),and expression levels of inflammatory-related factors were detected using western blotting.Results:In total,165 chemical constituents(including glycosides,tannins,volatile oils,amino acids,triterpenoids,polyphenols,phenylpropanoids,sesquiterpenes,alkaloids,and flavonoids,among others)were tentatively identified in HSYF.Network pharmacology demonstrated that HSYF can regulate immunomodulatory-and anti-inflammatory-related targets of multiple pathways through its active ingredients,suggesting potential anti-COVID-19 effects.Furthermore,cell viability assays and EliSA showed that HSYF significantly inhibited H1N1 replication in RAW64.7 cells and markedly reduced expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-αand IL-6 at the proteins level.Conclusions:The results of the present study help improve our understanding of the therapeutic effects of HSYF in COVID-19 treatment from multi-level perspectives.

Prevalence and risk factors of diabetes mellitus among elderly patients in the Lugu community

BACKGROUND Age is a significant risk factor of diabetes mellitus(DM).With the develop of population aging,the incidence of DM remains increasing.Understanding the epidemiology of DM among elderly individuals in a certain area contributes to the DM interventions for the local elderly individuals with high risk of DM.AIM To explore the prevalence of DM among elderly individuals in the Lugu community and analyze the related risk factors to provide a valid scientific basis for the health management of elderly individuals.METHODS A total of 4816 elderly people who came to the community for physical examination were retrospectively analyzed.The prevalence of DM among the elderly was calculated.The individuals were divided into a DM group and a non-DM group according to the diagnosis of DM to compare the differences in diastolic blood pressure(DBP)and systolic blood pressure(SBP),fasting blood glucose,body mass index(BMI),waist-to-hip ratio(WHR)and incidence of hypertension(HT),coronary heart disease(CHD),and chronic kidney disease(CKD).RESULTS DM was diagnosed in 32.70%of the 4816 elderly people.The BMI of the DM group(25.16±3.35)was greater than that of the non-DM group(24.61±3.78).The WHR was 0.90±0.04 in the non-DM group and 0.90±0.03 in the DM group,with no significant difference.The left SBP and SBP in the DM group were 137.9 mmHg±11.92 mmHg and 69.95 mmHg±7.75 mmHg,respectively,while they were 126.6 mmHg±12.44 mmHg and 71.15 mmHg±12.55 mmHg,respectively,in the non-DM group.These findings indicate higher SBP and lower DBP in DM patients than in those without DM.In the DM group,1274 patients were diagnosed with HT,accounting for 80.89%.Among the 3241 non-DM patients,1743(53.78%)were hypertensive and 1498(46.22%)were nonhypertensive.The DM group had more cases of HT than did the non-DM group.There were more patients with CHD or CKD in the DM group than in the non-DM group.There were more patients who drank alcohol more frequently(≥3 times)in the DM group than in the non-DM group.CONCLUSION Older adults in the Lugu c

BACKGROUND Schizophrenia(SCZ)is a complex disease which can be affected by both genetic and environmental factors.Prenatal famine exposure may cause changes in DNA methylation levels of genes.Meanwhile,maternal nutrition during pregnancy is a pivotal environmental factor in the development of SCZ.DNA methylation may be an intermediate factor mediating exposure to famine during pregnancy and SCZ,and DNA methylation quantitative trait loci might serve as a promising tool for linking SCZ and prenatal famine.AIM To analyze the association between prenatal famine exposure and SCZ risk in Northeast Han Chinese through analysis of DNA methylation related loci.METHODS A total of 954 Han Chinese from Northeast China were recruited,including 443 patients with SCZ and 511 healthy controls.The participants were further divided into famine(born in 1960-1962)and non-famine(born in 1963-1965)groups to investigate the effect of prenatal famine exposure.Four single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)selected according to the relevant literature were genotyped,namely,rs11917047 in PTPRG,rs2239681 in IGF2,rs3842756 in INSIGF,and rs61955196 in ABCB9.DNA were extracted from peripheral blood samples,and the genotypes of these SNP loci were detected using the improved Multiple ligase Detection Reaction multiple SNP typing technique.The associations of the DNA methylation related SNPs with SCZ risk and prenatal famine,and their interactions were analyzed using logistic regression analysis and generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction(GMDR)software.RESULTS Based on the sequencing data,genotype distributions and allele frequencies of the four selected SNPs were determined.All genotype frequencies of the four SNPs in the healthy control group were tested for deviation from Hardy-weinberg equilibrium(P>0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that rs61955196 was significantly associated with SCZ risk in the log-additive model[odds ratio(OR):1.22;95%confidence interval(CI):1.01-1.48;P=0.040].We also found that the rs61955196 allele was re

Biomimetic design of highly flexible metal oxide nanofibrous membranes with exceptional mechanical performance for superior phosphopeptide enrichment

Developing free-standing and mechanical robust membrane materials capable of superior enrichment of phosphopeptides for analyzing and identifying the specific phosphoproteome of cancer cells is significant in understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer development and exploring new therapeutic approaches,but still a significant challenge in materials design.To this end,we firstly constructed highly flexible ZrTiO_(4) nanofibrous membranes(NFMs)with excellent mechanical stability through a cost-effective and scalable electrospinning and subsequent calcination technique.Then,to further increase the enrichment capacity of the phosphopeptide,the biomimetic TiO_(2)@ZrTiO_(4) NFMs with root hair or leaf like branch microstructure are developed by the hydrothermal post-synthetic modification of ZrTiO_(4) NFMs through growing unfurling TiO_(2) nanosheets onto the ZrTiO_(4) nanofibers.Importantly,remarkable flexibility and mechanical stability enable the resulting TiO_(2)@ZrTiO_(4) NFMs excellent practicability,while the biomimetic microstructure allows it outstanding enrichment ability of the phosphopeptide and identification ability of the specific phosphoproteins in the digest of cervical cancer cells.Specifically,6770 phosphopeptides can be enriched by TiO_(2)@ZrTiO_(4) NFMs(2205 corresponding phosphoproteins can be identified),and the value is much higher than that of ZrTiO_(4) NFMs(6399 phosphopeptides and 2132 identified phosphoproteins)and commercial high-performance TiO_(2) particles(4525 phosphopeptides and 1811 identified phosphoproteins).These results demonstrate the super ability of TiO_(2)@ZrTiO_(4) NFMs in phosphopeptide enrichment and great potential for exploring the pathogenesis of cancer.

Effect of Y_(2)O_(3) on microstructure and properties of CoCrFeNiTiNb high entropy alloy coating on Ti-6Al-4V surface by laser cladding

The effects of Y_(2)O_(3) on the microstructure, microhardness, wear resistance, high-temperature oxidation resistance, hot corrosion resistance, and electrochemical corrosion behaviour of CoCrFeNiTiNb high entropy alloy coatings formed on Ti-6Al-4V alloy surfaces were studied. The results show that the addition of Y_(2)O_(3) changes the proportion of the phase but does not change its type. The average grain size is only 1/4.7 of that of the high entropy alloy(HEA) coating, and the fine-grained strengthening leads to increases in the microhardness and wear resistance of 21.8% and 26.9%, respectively. The addition of Y_(2)O_(3) enhances the denseness and bonding properties of the oxide and corrosion product layers, reducing the oxidation and hot corrosion rates by 60.3% and 40.3%, respectively. The addition of Y_(2)O_(3) doubles the corrosion resistance which is attributed to the refinement of the grains, the increased proportion of HCP and TiN, and the weakening of galvanic coupling corrosion.

Humic acid-mediated transport of a typical soil passivation remediation product(chloropyromorphite)in saturated porous media

Conversion of labile Pb species into chloropyromorphite(CPY)using phosphorus-bearing amendments was considered to be an ideal strategy in soil passivation remediation.However,the fate and transport of CPY in the soil are poorly understood.This study aims to fill the knowledge gap by evaluating the fate and transport of CPY under environmentally relevant conditions of humic acid(HA),pH,electrolyte concentration,and species through the saturated sandy medium.Results showed that bare CPY colloids are basically immobile in sandy porous media while the co-existence of HA made the transport of CPY improved by30%-93.5%.Facilitated transport of CPY was attributed to the increased stability of CPY and the repulsive interaction between CPY particles and sands due to HA adsorption.The mobility of CPY was also increased with increasing pH from 5.0 to 9.0.When the pH was 9 with a10 mmol/L NaCl background solution,the stronger energy barrier between CPY and sand led to enhanced transport behavior.The divalent Ca^(2+)had a more dramatic effect than monovalent Na^(+)on the aggregation and sedimentation of CPY colloids due to its effectivescreening of the surface charge of CPY and bridging interaction with CPY particles.Derjaguin-LandauVerwey-Overbeek theory and attachment efficiency calculation indicated that high energy barriers were responsible for the high mobility of CPY colloids,while the retention of CPY in sands was mainly caused by secondary energy minimum and physically straining.The findings of this work can help to evaluate the fate of soil passivation remediation products in natural water and soil.
