The mold pressing process was applied to investigate the formability of closed-cell aluminum foam in solid–liquid–gas coexisting *** show that the shape formation of closed-cell aluminum foam in the solid–liquid–gas coexisting state was realized through cell wall deformation and cell movement caused by primary α-Al grains that slid,rotated,deformed,and ripened within cell *** formation,characteristic parameters of closed-cell aluminum foam were almost *** proper forming conditions,shaped products of closed-cell aluminum foam could be fabricated through mold pressing.

In an attempt to overcome the limitations of titanium in dental and orthopaedic clinical applications, a new method has been developed to prepare calcium carbonate coatings on sandblasted and acid-etched （SA） titanium implants. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of calcium carbonate-SA （CC-SA） implants on osseointegration in vivo. The surfaces of SA and CC-SA implants were characterised for surface morphology and surface chemistry. Subsequently, these two kinds of implants were implanted in the femoral condyles of rabbits. The implants were retrieved and prepared for histological and histomorphometric evaluation 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after implantation. Significantly higher values of bone-to-implant contact of the entire implant except the gap area （BIC_ALL） and the bone-to-implant contact of the gap area （BIC_GAP） were found in animals with the CC-SA implants than in those with the SA implants at 4 weeks. Higher values of total gap bone were found in those with the CC-SA implants than in those with the SA implants at 1, 2 and 4 weeks. In conclusion, the current findings demonstrate that the calcium carbonate coating can improve and accelerate the early ingrowth of bone and osseointegration at the early healine phase. This may reduce clinical healinE times and thus improve implant success rates.

The current modified electro-Fenton system was designed to develop a more convenient and efficient undivided system for practical wastewater treatment. The system adopted a cathode portion that employed magnetic stirring instead of common oxygen gas diffusion or gas sparging to supply oxygen gas for the electrolyte solution. Key factors influencing the cathode fabrication and activit） were investigated. The degradation of acid fuchsine with a self-made graphite-polytetrafluorethylene cathode was studied using spectrophotometer. It was found that the cathode generated hydrogen peroxide with high current efficiency and the hydrogen peroxide yield of the cathode did not decay after 10 times reuse. With the Pt anode at a ferrous ion concentration of 0.5 mmol/L, a pH of 3, and using magnetic stirring, dye decolorization could be rapidly accomplished but the destruction of benzene rings and intermediates was fairly difficult. With a Fe anode, dye degradation was more complete.

BACKGROUND Radical gastrectomy with D2 lymph node (LN) dissection is the standard surgical procedure for patients with resectable gastric cancer (GC). In the fifteenth edition of the Japanese Classification of Gastric Carcinoma, the 14v LN (LNs along the root of the superior mesenteric vein) was defined as the regional gastric LN. The efficacy of 14v LN dissection during radical distal gastrectomy for lower-third GC remains controversial. AIM To analyze whether the addition of 14v LN dissection improved the survival of patients with lower-third GC. METHODS The data from 65 patients who underwent 14v LN dissection and 65 patients treated without 14v LN dissection were selected using the propensity scorematched method from our institute database constructed between 2000 and 2012. Overall survival was compared between the groups. RESULTS Overall survival was similar between patients with 14v LN metastasis and those with distant metastasis (P = 0.521). Among patients with pathological stage IIIA disease, those who were treated with 14v LN dissection had a significantly higher overall survival than those treated without it (P = 0.020). Multivariate analysis showed that age < 65 years and pT2-3 stage were independent favorable prognostic factors for prolonged overall survival in patients with pathological stage IIIA disease. Patients with No. 1, No. 6, No. 8a, or No. 11p LN metastasis were at higher risk of having 14v LN *** Adding 14v LN dissection to D2 dissection during radical distal gastrectomy may improve the overall survival of patients with pathological stage IIIA lower-third GC.

AIM： To explore whether cyclooxygenase 2 （COX-2） -765G〉C polymorphism is associated with susceptibility of colorectal cancer （CRC） and to evaluate the risk of colorectal cancer in relation to environmental exposures and polymorphism. METHODS： We conducted a case-control study of 137 patients with colorectal cancer and 199 cancerfree controls in northeast China. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to calculate the adjusted odds ratio （OR） and 95% confidence interval （95% CI）. RESULTS： The -765G〉C polymorphism was not independently associated with CRC risk. However, risk associated with the polymorphism differed by smoking and body mass index （BMI）. Smoking and BMI associated risks were stronger among those with -765GG genotype, showing that smokers had a 2.682-fold greater risk of CRC than nonsmokers （51/43 vs 68/126, P = 0.006）. Compared to those with a normal body mass index （BMI 18.5-22.9）, those with overweight （BMI 23-24.9） had a 3.909-fold higher risk of CRC （OR = 3.909, 95% CI = 2.081-7.344; P 〈 0.001）, while those with obesity （BMI 〉 25） had a 2.031- fold higher risk of CRC （OR = 1.107, 95% CI = 1.107-3.726; P = 0.022）. is not associated with an increased risk of CRC, -765GG genotype appears to be related to an increased risk in the presence of smoking and higher BMI.

AIM. To explore the role of the matrix metalloproteinase-9 （MMP-9） polymorphism in colorectal cancer （CRC） in a northeast Chinese population.METHODS： Genotyping of MNP-9-1562C〉T and 279R〉Q polymorphisms was carried out on blood samples from 137 colorectal cancer patients and 199 controls using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism （PCR-RFLP）. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to calculate adjusted odds ratios （OR） and 95% confidence intervals （95% CI）.RESULTS： The distribution of IVllVlP-9 -2562C〉T and 279 R〉Q genotype was not significantly associated with the risk of CRC. However, the risk of Ilymph node metastasis of CRC was increased in patients with the -1562T allele （OR = 2.601; 95% CI = 1.160-5.835; P = 0.022）. The frequency of MMP-9 279RR ＋ RQ genotype was higher than the QQ genotype among CRC patients younger than sixty years old （OR = 0.102, 95% CI = 0.013-0.812; P = 0.012）.CONCLUSION： Our results indicated that the MMP-9- 1562C〉T polymorphism affects lymph node metastasis of CRC. In addition, the MMP-9 279R allele may lead to a younger age of onset of colorectal cancer.
