Cytological identification of an isotetrasomic in rice and its application to centromere mapping

The aneuploid with isochromosome or telochromosome is ideal material for exploring the position of centromere in lingkage map. FOr obtaining these aneuploids in rice, the primary trisomics from triplo-1 to triplo-12 and the aneuploids derived from a triploid of indica rice variety Zhongxian 3037 were carefully investigated. From the offsprings of triplo-10, a primary trisomic of chromosome 10 of the variety, an isotetrasomic "triplo-10-1" was obtained. Cytological investigation revealed that a pair of extra isochromosomes of triplo-10-1 were come from the short arm of chromosome 10. In the offsprings of the isotetrasomic, a secondary trisomic "triplo-10-2" 5 in which the extra- chromosome was an isochromosome derived from the short arm of chromosome 10, was identified. With the isotetrasomic, secondary trisomic, primary trisomic and diploid of variety Zhongxian 3037, different molecular markers were used for exploring the position of the centromere of chromosome 10. Based on the DNA dosage effect, it was verified that the molecular markers G1125, G333 and L169 were located on the short arm, G1084 and other 16 available molecular markers were on the long arm of chromosome 10. So the centromere of chromosome 10 was located somewhere betweenG1125 and G1084 according to the RFLP linkage map given by Kurata et al[1]. The distance from G1125 to G1084 was about 3.2cM.

A complete answer to the shiftability of a principal shift invariant spaces and a scaled version is given. The congruence of spectrum plays a kernel role. It characterizes essentially the shiftability and the scale of any principal shift variant spaces. Some examples relative to signal analysis are discussed associated with an explanation to the failure of generalizing Shannon s sampling theorem from band limitted to band pass case.

30 years have passed since a printed dharani sutra scroll was discovered in 1966 in Kyongju, Korea. However, there have been different views about the date and place of its printing and publication in Korea and abroad. Some Korean scholars think that it was translated into Chinese from Sanskrit in 704 in China and printed during 706-751 in the Silla period in Korea. After a further research it is now proved that this sutra was translated into Chinese in 701 and printed in the follow-ing year, 702, in Luoyang, during the reign of Empress Wu. This shows that the sutra could not have been printed in the Silla period. The discoveries of the Saddharma pundarik sutra printed during 690-699 and the Sanskrit dharani charm printed around 650-670 in China also show that the dharani sutra found in Korea is not the earliest one. Both literary records and archaeological findings prove that printing originated in China.

Based on scanning electronic microscopic observation of three fault rocks in ductile-brittle shearing-sliding zones (including one palimpsest mylonite sampled from deep bore cores of Cajon Pass, California, two flowing-structured carbargillites sampled from Shaancan Well 1 located in north Shaanxi, and Well NH located in Huanghai, respectively), micron- and nanometer-scaled ultra-fine grinding grain texture of fault rocks is discovered in this study. And the geological significance of grinding grain texture is discussed in terms of its particulate organization, rheology of particulate slipping, laminar petrography and micro dynamics including dynamothermal metamorphism, fluid transferring, particulate autorotation, and so on. In addition, the remaining problems to be solved and broad prospects in this new study field are also discussed.

Organic carbon in forest soils of Qingyunsi and Wukesong profiles can be divided into fast and slow components. Δ14C values of these profiles decrease with increasing of depth. The Δ14C values in 30—40 cm depth interval of Wukesong profile are decreasing sharply until a very low value,showing that a strong geological environment change occurred about 1 560 years ago. The 14C apparent ages of Wukesong profile show that the coniferous and broad-leaf mixed forests around Wukesong profile have been developing since 425 a BP, which is consistent with historical documents. The penetrating depths of "bomb 14C" in Qingyunsi and Wukesong profiles are 10 and 20 cm, respectively.

AIM: To study the effect of topiramate on tumor metastasis and its relation with aquaporin 1 (AQP1) water channel. METHODS: Lewis lung carcinoma metastatic model was used to determine the effect of topiramate on tumor growth and metastasis. Colorimetric estimation was used to investigate the action of topiramate on carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity. Western blotting and immunohistochemical analysis were used to study the influence of topiramate on AQP1 water channel expression in lungs or tumor tissues of mice bearing Lewis lung carcinoma.

A total of 10446 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are obtained by a large scale sequencing of a cDNA library from cephalothorax of adult Fenneropenaeus chinensis . An EST analysis platform was built up based on local computers and bioinformatic techniques were used to annotate these ESTs in order to promptly find possible functional genes, especially for immune related factors. About 4% of the ESTs show similarity to the coding sequences of such factors, including lectin, serine protease, serpin, lysozyme, etc. These ESTs provide a partial profile of the immune system in F. chinensis and useful information for further study on these genes.
