Risk factors for brain injury in patients with exertional heatstroke:A 5-year experience

Purpose:Minimal data exist on brain injury in patients with exertional heatstroke(EHS)in developing *** this study,we explored the risk factors for brain injury induced by EHS 90-day after ***:A retrospective cohort study of patients with EHS was conducted in the intensive care unit of the General Hospital of Southern Theater Command of PLA in China from April 2014 to June *** were divided into non-brain injury(fully recovered)and brain injury groups(comprising deceased patients or those with neurological sequelae).The brain injury group was further subdivided into a death group and a sequela group for detailed *** information,neurological performance and information on important organ injuries in the acute stage were recorded and *** logistic regression was used to identify risk factors for brain injury after EHS and mortality risk factors for brain injury,and Kaplan-Meier survival curve was used to evaluate the effect of the neurological dysfunction on ***:Out of the 147 EHS patients,117 were enrolled,of which 96(82.1%)recovered,13(11.1%)died,and 8(6.8%)experienced neurological *** significant differences were found between non-brain injury and brain injury groups in age,hypotension,duration of consciousness disorders,time to drop core body temperature below 38.5℃,lymphocyte counts,platelet counts,procalcitonin,alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,creatinine,cystatin C,coagulation parameters,international normalized ratio,acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II scores,sequential organ failure assessment(SOFA)scores,and Glasgow coma scale scores(all p<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression showed that age(OR=1.090,95%CI:1.02-1.17,p=0.008),time to drop core temperature(OR=8.223,95%CI:2.30-29.40,p=0.001),and SOFA scores(OR=1.676,95%CI:1.29-2.18,p<0.001)are independent risk factors for brain injury induced by *** Kaplan-Meier curves suggest significa

CONDITIONAL AVERAGING OF TR-PIV MEASUREMENTS OF WAKE BEHIND SQUARE CYLINDER USING AN IMPROVED CROSS-CORRELATION APPROACH

An improved phase averaging method based on cross-correlation of the instantaneous velocity field determined by TR-PIV measurements is proposed in this article. A Time-Resolved Particle Image Velocimetry （TR-PIV） is used to measure the two-dimensional wake behind the square cylinder. The phase signals associated with the deterministic appearance of the Karman vortex street are obtained by calculating the correlation matrix of the low-pass filtered velocity field, and can provide the complete information of the phase-averaged wake flow. The results show the advantages of the enhanced methodology in extracting the quasi-periodic flow patterns related to the shedding coherent structures without using additional reference signals.

Extra contribution to the crystal stability of insensitive explosive TATB: The cooperativity of intermolecular interactions

An in-depth analysis on the cooperativity of intermolecular interactions including hydrogen bonding andπ-π stacking in 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene(TATB) crystal was studied. Two quantities, cooperativity rate and energy, were defined to evaluate the nature and strength of cooperativity in a series of clusters diverging from 1D to 3D prototypes. The origin and mechanism of the cooperative effect were settled to demonstrate that the nature of cooperativity is determined by whether the non-covalent interactions compete or promote with each other, which is manifested by the changing trend of electron transfer. There exists obvious cooperative effect in intra-layer and inter-layer structures as they own the equivalent non-covalent interactions, while anti-cooperative effect is also observed if two interactions correlate with each other. On the whole, in the process of crystal formation, the apparent cooperativity is the check and balance of the two effects, which is capable to support a global interaction among all of molecules and contribute to the stabilization of system. Based on the results, one may get a new insight to understand the relationship between non-covalent interactions and low impact sensitivity.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF LEAKAGE FLOW THROUGH TWO LABYRINTH SEALS

The leakage flow through two labyrinth seals, e.g the interlocking seal and the stepped seal, was numerically investigated. Preliminary calculation of the seal-cavity averaged pressure by using the one-dimensional control volume method showed favorable agreement with the experimental measurements. Subsequently, in-depth understanding of the fluid flow through the labyrinth seals was obtained by employing Computational Fluid Dynamics （CFD） and k -ε turbulence model, which resulted in a potential wealth of information like the streamline pattern, velocity vector field, and distribution of turbulent kinetic energy and static pressure. At the clearance of the seal the turbulent kinetic energy reached the peak value, while in the bulk region of the cavities it decayed fast. The static pressure rapidly dropped as the fluid flow went through the clearance; no distinct difference of the static pressure was inspected in the cavities. Also noted from the numerical results was that the stepped seal showed better sealing performance than the interlocking seal.

Effect of nano-carbon black content on wetting phenomenon of molten steel and alumina-carbon ceramic filter substrates

The effect of nano-carbon black content(O,8 and 12 wt.%)on the wettability of molten steel on Al_(2)O_(3)-C substrates was investigated by the sessile drop wetting method at 1500℃ under argon *** the beginning of the wetting experiment,the contact angle decreased with the increase in nano-carbon black *** the wetting experiment progressed,FeAl_(2)0_(4) layer and sheet Al_(2)O_(3) layer were found at the interface between the molten steel and the Al_(2)O_(3)-C substrates with O and 8 wt.% nano-carbon black content,and the contact angle deceased with *** the content of nano-carbon black was 12 wt.%,a large number of nano-Al_(2)O_(3) whiskers were observed,which made the contact angle between the molten steel and Al_(2)O_(3)-C substrate become *** on the scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrometry results,the formation mechanism of FeAl2O4 layer and Al_(2)O_(3) layer and the interfacial reaction mechanism were proposed.

Reticulated ceramic foam filters provide an effective way to purify molten steel by removing non-metallic *** proposed a novel strategy to improve the purification performance of Al_(2)O_(3)-based ceramic filters by using microporous corundum-spinel raw materials to replace dense raw *** kinds of Al_(2)O_(3)-based ceramic filters fabricated from dense α-Al_(2)O_(3) micro-powder or microporous corundum-spinel powder were selected to carry out the immersion tests with molten *** the one hand,the higher surface roughness of the filter skeleton prepared from microporous raw materials increased the adsorption capacity of skeleton surface on inclusions in molten *** the other hand,the higher apparent porosity and larger pore size of the filter skeleton were more beneficial to the penetration of molten steel in the micropores of *** reaction process at the solid-liquid interface also improved the wettability of the interface between skeleton and molten steel,resulting in a larger penetration depth and a better adsorption effect on the *** summary,the novel Al_(2)O_(3)-based ceramic filter prepared with microporous corundum-spinel powder and addition of 5 wt.% nano-Al_(2)O_(3) powder reduced the total oxygen content of the steel from 40.2×10^(-4) to 12.7×10^(-4) wt.% by 68.4% and the Al content from 0.46 to 0.18 wt.% by 60.9% after immersion test,presenting the most excellent purification performance on molten steel.

Hyperspectral image super resolution using deep internal and self-supervised learning

Influences of Graupel Microphysics on CMA-GFS Simulation of Summer Regional Precipitation

The horizontal resolution of global numerical weather prediction models is continuously developing. However, due to the imperfect precipitation simulation/forecast of these models, the demand for considering riming particles in cloud microphysical schemes in these models is increasing. This study employed the latest versions of global atmospheric reanalysis data (ERA5), the satellite retrieval data of the Global Precipitation Observation Program (GPM),and station precipitation observations to explore the impacts of adding graupel to the cloud microphysical scheme in the China Meteorological Administration-Global Forecast System (CMA-GFS) on summer regional precipitation simulations in four Chinese climate zones. The results verify that the new graupel scheme can enable CMA-GFS to decently predict global graupel distribution, especially in tropical and midlatitude regions. The addition of graupel in the cloud microphysics increases the precipitation simulation in North China, while that in Southwest China is weakened and dispersed. Moreover, graupel scheme increases the precipitation simulations of almost all *** increase in light rain is obvious, and the absolute value of heavy rain is strengthened. This may be because graupel quickly melts into rain after falling out of the zero-temperature layer due to its large mass and fast falling speed, increasing surface precipitation. In summary, the addition of graupel in the cloud microphysical scheme can improve CMA-GFS’s underestimation of strong precipitation.

Full lifetime demonstration of a Micro-Cathode-Arc thruster evolution characteristics

Ground lifetime test is the most crucial experiment to assess the performance,*** flight qualification of electric propulsion,and it can bring new insights for understanding the operation *** work demonstrates a full lifetime test of 140000 cycles on a Micro-Cathode-Arc Thruster(μCAT)with 160μs charging time and 86 mJ charging energy.A four-probe resistivity measurement method is utilized to investigate variations in the conductive film thickness and resistivity throughout the thruster *** film parameters show that the lifetime of theμCAT can be divided into three *** the initial stage,the film thickness decreases by 1.2μm and the resistivity increases significantly due to the high discharge intensity and intense film ablation;In the steady stage,the change of the film thickness is within 5%,and the resistivity of the film increases slowly from 0.050Ω·mm to 0.223Ω·*** the end stage,the resistivity exponentially increases from 0.223Ω·mm to 1.176Ω·mm,with the increase accounting for 81%,ultimately resulting in the failure of the thruster open ***,the evolution of discharge parameters,and the variation of plume parameters are measured throughout the *** discharge characteristics also show significant differences in the duration of voltage and current in these three *** results of plume shape and plasma parameters are also well con-sistent with the discharge parameters and film *** results suggest that,for evaluating the steady stage lifetime of thrusters,the film thickness is the best indicator compared to the variations in resistivity and voltage-current *** the end stage,the plasma plume *** duration,and plume parameters can conveniently and clearly characterize the thruster failures and irregularity.
