Effect of Wave Nonlinearity on the Instantaneous Seabed Liquefaction

The nonlinear variation of wave is commonly seen in nearshore area,and the resulting seabed response and liquefaction are of high concern to coastal engineers.In this study,an analytical formula considering the nonlinear wave skewness and asymmetry is adopted to provide wave pressure on the seabed surface.The liquefaction depth attenuation coefficient and width growth coefficient are defined to quantitatively characterize the nonlinear effect of wave on seabed liquefaction.Based on the 2D full dynamic model of wave-induced seabed response,a detailed parametric study is carried out in order to evaluate the influence of the nonlinear variation of wave loadings on seabed liquefaction.Further,new empirical prediction formulas are proposed to fast predict the maximum liquefaction under nonlinear wave.Results indicate that(1)Due to the influence of wave nonlinearity,the vertical transmission of negative pore water pressure in the seabed is hindered,and therefore,the amplitude decreases significantly.(2)In general,with the increase of wave nonlinearity,the liquefaction depth of seabed decreases gradually.Especially under asymmetric and skewed wave loading,the attenuation of maximum seabed liquefaction depth is the most significant among all the nonlinear wave conditions.However,highly skewed wave can cause the liquefaction depth of seabed greater than that under linear wave.(3)The asymmetry of wave pressure leads to the increase of liquefaction width,whereas the influence of skewedness is not significant.(4)Compared with the nonlinear waveform,seabed liquefaction is more sensitive to the variation of nonlinear degree of wave loading.

To the Editor:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the main causes of cancer related death worldwide,and new cases are expected to continue to increase in future[1].Surgical resection is still the best way to remove the tumor and improve patient’s prognosis.However,resection of caudate lobe often presents a technical challenge,even to accomplished hepatic surgeons.Caudate lobe is located anterior to the inferior vena cava(IVC)and posterior to the bifurcation of the portal vein(PV),generally consists of three regions:the paracaval portion,the left Spiegel lobe and the process portion[2].The anatomy of the paracaval portion includes the liver parenchyma ventral to the hepatic IVC and the area between the Spiegel lobe and the right lobe adjacent to the middle hepatic vein(MHV)ventrally,which was classified by Couinaud as segment IX[3].Here,we presented a case of HCC with successful downstaging therapy,as well as variation of MHV,which provides a safe path for anterior transection of segment IX.

Fusion network for small target detection based on YOLO and attention mechanism

Target detection is an important task in computer vision research, and such an anomaly detection and the topic of small target detection task is more concerned. However, there are still some problems in this kind of researches, such as small target detection in complex environments is susceptible to background interference and poor detection results. To solve these issues, this study proposes a method which introduces the attention mechanism into the you only look once(YOLO) network. In addition, the amateur-produced mask dataset was created and experiments were conducted. The results showed that the detection effect of the proposed mothed is much better.

Influence characteristics of water penetration on fibre-reinforced polymer/rigid polyurethane foam interface of the composite cross-arm considering natural ageing

Fibre-reinforced polymer(FRP)/rigid polyurethane foam(RPUF)interface is susceptible to moisture intrusion in addition to natural ageing during operation.This study investigated the influence of moisture intrusion on the FRP/RPUF interface under natural ageing using experiments and molecular dynamics(MD)simulations.Water absorption,shear strength,and leakage current tests were used to clarify the changes in the interface performance.The degradation mechanism of moisture intrusion at the interface under natural ageing was revealed by MD simulation and micro-characterisation.The results show that the natural ageing of interfacial materials will slightly reduce the quality of the interface but will reduce the water resistance of the material and promote the process of water intrusion into the interface.In addition,water mainly invades the interface through RPUF.After water penetration,the interfacial bonding strength and insulation performance significantly decreased.Plasticisation and hydrolysis of interfacial materials are the main reasons for decreased interfacial adhesion.Hydrolysis can cause irreversible damage to the interface,increasing interface defects and water absorption.The vicious cycle of material hydrolysis is the ultimate cause of interfacial debonding.The polar molecules produced by this process and the water absorbed by the interface caused the degradation of the interface insulation performance.

KLF4 Inhibits the Activation of Human Hepatic Stellate Cell In Vitro

Objective Hepatic stellate cells(HSCs)play a crucial role in liver fibrosis.Early-stage liver fibrosis is reversible and intimately associated with the state of HSCs.Kruppel-like factor 4(KLF4)plays a pivotal role in a wide array of physiological and pathological processes.This study aimed to investigate the effect of KLF4 on the proliferation,apoptosis and phenotype of quiescent HSCs Methods We designed a KLF4 lentiviral vector and a KLF4 siRNA lentiviral vector,to upregulate and silence KLF4 expression in human HSC LX-2 cells via transfection.Cell proliferation was assessed using the CCK-8 assay.Flow cytometry was used to detect the cell cycle distribution and apoptosis rate.Western blotting was used to determine the levels of some quiescence and activation markers of HSCs Results Overexpression of KLF4 significantly increased the levels of E-cadherin and ZO-1,which are quiescent HSC markers,while significantly decreased the levels of N-cadherin and a-SMA,known activated HSC markers.In contrast,cell proliferation and apoptosis rates were elevated in LX-2 cells in which KLF4 expression was silenced Conclusion KLF4 inhibits the proliferation and activation of human LX-2 HSCs.It might be a key regulatory protein in the maintenance of HSC quiescence and may serve as a target for the inhibition of hepatic fibrosis.

An improved method for internal multiple elimination using the theory of virtual events

Compared with first-order surface-related multiples from marine data,the onshore internal multiples are weaker and are always combined with a hazy and occasionally strong interference pattern.It is usually difficult to discriminate these events from complex targets and highly scattering overburdens,especially when the primary energy from deep layers is weaker than that from shallow layers.The internal multiple elimination is even more challenging due to the fact that the velocity and energy difference between primary reflections and internal multiples is tiny.In this study,we propose an improved method which formulates the elimination of the internal multiples as an optimization problem and develops a convolution factor T.The generated internal multiples at all interfaces are obtained using the convolution factor T through iterative inversion of the initial multiple model.The predicted internal multiples are removed from seismic data through subtraction.Finally,several synthetic experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of our approach.The results of our study indicate that compared with the traditional virtual events method,the improved method simplifies the multiple prediction process in which internal multiples generated from each interface are built through iterative inversion,thus reducing the calculation cost,improving the accuracy,and enhancing the adaptability of field data.

Galerkin-based quasi-smooth manifold element(QSME)method for anisotropic heat conduction problems in composites with complex geometry

The accurate and efficient analysis of anisotropic heat conduction problems in complex composites is crucial for structural design and performance evaluation. Traditional numerical methods, such as the finite element method(FEM), often face a trade-off between calculation accuracy and efficiency. In this paper, we propose a quasi-smooth manifold element(QSME) method to address this challenge, and provide the accurate and efficient analysis of two-dimensional(2D) anisotropic heat conduction problems in composites with complex geometry. The QSME approach achieves high calculation precision by a high-order local approximation that ensures the first-order derivative continuity.The results demonstrate that the QSME method is robust and stable, offering both high accuracy and efficiency in the heat conduction analysis. With the same degrees of freedom(DOFs), the QSME method can achieve at least an order of magnitude higher calculation accuracy than the traditional FEM. Additionally, under the same level of calculation error, the QSME method requires 10 times fewer DOFs than the traditional FEM. The versatility of the proposed QSME method extends beyond anisotropic heat conduction problems in complex composites. The proposed QSME method can also be applied to other problems, including fluid flows, mechanical analyses, and other multi-field coupled problems, providing accurate and efficient numerical simulations.

Pig pangenome graph reveals functional features of non‑reference sequences

Background The reliance on a solitary linear reference genome has imposed a significant constraint on our compre-hensive understanding of genetic variation in animals.This constraint is particularly pronounced for non-reference sequences(NRSs),which have not been extensively studied.Results In this study,we constructed a pig pangenome graph using 21 pig assemblies and identified 23,831 NRSs with a total length of 105 Mb.Our findings revealed that NRSs were more prevalent in breeds exhibiting greater genetic divergence from the reference genome.Furthermore,we observed that NRSs were rarely found within coding sequences,while NRS insertions were enriched in immune-related Gene Ontology terms.Notably,our investigation also unveiled a close association between novel genes and the immune capacity of pigs.We observed substantial differences in terms of frequencies of NRSs between Eastern and Western pigs,and the heat-resistant pigs exhibited a substantial number of NRS insertions in an 11.6 Mb interval on chromosome X.Additionally,we discovered a 665 bp insertion in the fourth intron of the TNFRSF19 gene that may be associated with the ability of heat tolerance in South-ern Chinese pigs.Conclusions Our findings demonstrate the potential of a graph genome approach to reveal important functional features of NRSs in pig populations.

N6-methyladenosine(m^(6)A)is the most prevalent modification in the eukaryotic transcriptome and has a wide range of functions in coding and noncoding RNAs.It affects the fate of the modified RNA,including its stability,splicing,and translation,and plays an important role in post-transcriptional regulation.Bones play a key role in supporting and pro-tecting muscles and other organs,facilitating the movement of the organism,ensuring blood production,etc.Bone diseases such as osteoarthritis,osteoporosis,and bone tumors are serious public health problems.The processes of bone development and osteogenic differen-tiation require the precise regulation of gene expression through epigenetic mechanisms including histone,DNA,and RNA modifications.As a reversible dynamic epigenetic mark,m^(6)A modifications affect nearly every important biological process,cellular component,and molecular function,including skeletal development and homeostasis.In recent years,studies have shown that m^(6)A modification is involved in osteogenesis and bone-related diseases.In this review,we summarized the proteins involved in RNA m^(6)A modification and the latest progress in elucidating the regulatory role of m^(6)A modification in bone formation and stem cell direc-tional differentiation.We also discussed the pathological roles and potential molecular mech-anisms of m^(6)A modification in bone-related diseases like osteoporosis and osteosarcoma and suggested potential areas for new strategies that could be used to prevent or treat bone de-fects and bone diseases.

Risk factors,prognostic factors,and nomograms for distant metastasis in patients with diagnosed duodenal cancer:A population-based study

BACKGROUND Duodenal cancer is one of the most common subtypes of small intestinal cancer,and distant metastasis(DM)in this type of cancer still leads to poor prognosis.Although nomograms have recently been used in tumor areas,no studies have focused on the diagnostic and prognostic evaluation of DM in patients with primary duodenal cancer.AIM To develop and evaluate nomograms for predicting the risk of DM and person-alized prognosis in patients with duodenal cancer.METHODS Data on duodenal cancer patients diagnosed between 2010 and 2019 were extracted from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results database.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify independent risk factors for DM in patients with duodenal cancer,and univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to determine independent prognostic factors in duodenal cancer patients with DM.Two novel nomograms were established,and the results were evaluated by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves,calibration curves,and decision curve analysis(DCA).RESULTS A total of 2603 patients with duodenal cancer were included,of whom 457 cases(17.56%)had DM at the time of diagnosis.Logistic analysis revealed independent risk factors for DM in duodenal cancer patients,including gender,grade,tumor size,T stage,and N stage(Ppanded testing set using ROC curves,calibration curves,and DCA curves.The results of Kaplan-Meier survival curves(P<0.001)indicated that both nomograms accurately predicted the occurrence and prognosis of DM in patients with duodenal cancer.CONCLUSION The two nomograms are expected as effective tools for predicting DM risk in duodenal cancer patients
