This paper presents a new sonochemistry reactor, which consists of a cylindrical tube with a certain length and piezoelectric transducers at tube’s end with the longitudinal vibration. The tube can effectively transform the longitudinal vibration into the radial vibration and thereby generates ultrasound. Furthermore, ultrasound can be focused to form high-intensity ultrasonic field inside tube. The reactor boasts of simple structure and its whole vessel wall can radiate ultrasound so that the electroacoustic transfer efficiency is high. The focused ultrasonic field provides good condition for sonochemical reaction. The length of the reactor can be up to 2 meters, and liquids can pass through it continuously, so it can be widely applied in liquid processing such as sonochemistry.

Terpenoids are the largest family of natural *** are made from the building block isoprene pyrophosphate(IPP),and their bioproduction using engineered cell factories has received a great deal of *** date,the insufficient metabolic supply of IPP remains a great challenge for the efficient synthesis of *** this work,we discover that the imbalanced metabolic flux distribution between the central metabolism and the IPP supply hinders IPP accumulation in Bacillus subtilis(***).Therefore,we remodel the IPP metabolism using a series of genetically encoded two-input-multioutput(TIMO)circuits that are responsive to pyruvate or/and malonyl-CoA,resulting in an IPP pool that is significantly increased by up to *** a proof-of-concept validation,we design an IPP metabolism remodeling strategy to improve the production of three valuable terpenoids,including menaquinone-7(MK-7,4.1-fold),lycopene(9-fold),andβ-carotene(0.9-fold).In particular,the titer of MK-7 in a 50-L bioreactor reached 1549.6 mg·L^(-1),representing the highest titer reported so ***,we propose a TIMO genetic circuits-assisted IPP metabolism remodeling framework that can be generally used for the synergistic fine-tuning of complicated metabolic modules to achieve the efficient bioproduction of terpenoids.

Effect of resistant starch supplementation on the diversity and composition of human gut microbiota: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Resistant starch (RS) has attracted much researchers’ attention because of its health-beneficial effects. Gut microbiota obviously shapes human health， but the effects of RS supplementation on the changes of human gut microbiota remain unclear. This observational meta-analysis aimed to reveal the effects of RS intake on alpha diversity and composition of gut microbiota through meta-analysis. Two independent authors systematically searched articles from inception until February 2023 on four electronic databases. Twenty-four highly relevant trials were included conforming to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis protocol， and a total of 816 individuals were included. Significant heterogeneity analyses revealed that RS intake notably decreased Shannon index (WMD: –0.11; 95% CI: –0.21， –0.01)， and stimulated the composition of health promoting bacteria genera， including Bifidobacterium (WMD: 1.75; 95% CI: 0.39， 3.11; WMD: 0.36; 95% CI: 0.04， 0.69)， Faecalibacterium (WMD: 0.70; 95% CI: 0.20， 1.20; ES: 0.91; 95% CI: 0.60， 1.23)， and Prevotella (WMD: 0.35; 95% CI: 0.01， 0.69). Taken together， the present study revealed that changes in the gut microbiota diversity and genera were correlated with RS supplementation， which may contribute to benefits in human health.

[Objectives]To obtain the optimal extraction process parameters of volatile oil of Artemisiae Scopariae Herba.[Methods]The controlled variable method was used to take the extraction amount of volatile oil as the evaluation indicator,and the effects of single factor solid-to-liquid ratio,soaking time and extraction time on the yield rate of volatile oil were investigated.[Results]When the solid-to-liquid ratio reached 1∶12,the soaking time reached 3 h,and the extraction time reached 2 h,the yield of volatile oil was the highest.[Conclusions]The conditions of this process are stable and feasible,and it is expected to provide a certain reference for extracting volatile oil from Artemisiae Scopariae Herba.

The effect of parasitic charge on the output stability of MEMS gyroscopes

Output voltage drifting was observed in MEMS gyroscopes. Other than the quadrature error, frequency mismatch and quality factor, the dielectric parasitic charge was thought to be a major determinant. We studied the mechanism and variation of the parasitic charge in the MEMS gyroscopes, and analyzed the effect of the parasitic charge on the output stability. This phenomenon was extremely obvious in the Pyrex encapsulated MEMS gyroscopes. Due to the DC voltage required for the electrostatic actuation, the parasitic charge in the dielectric layer would accumulate and induce a residual voltage. This voltage had an impact on the resonant frequency of the gyroscopes, so as to affect the output stability. The theoretical studies were also confirmed by our experimental results. It was shown that the parasitic charge was harmful to the output stability of MEMS gyroscopes.

Influence of grass plantation on the rainfall-induced instability of gentle loose fill slope

The understanding of rainfall-induced landslides on gentle, loose-fill slopes is limited in comparison to steep slopes. Hence, two physical model tests were conducted on silty sand slopes under continuous rainfall: one on a bare slope and the other on a slope planted with ryegrass. The slope angle of 25° is much lower than the internal friction angle of slope material (34.3°), which makes the model test fall well into the category of gentle slope. For the initially unsaturated bare slope, a rainfall event with return period of 18 years could trigger a rapid and retrogressive global sliding, which differs from previous findings that gentle slopes would only experience shallow failure. A sudden increase in pore-water pressure was simultaneously observed, which might be generated by the wetting-induced collapse of unsaturated loose soil. On the other hand, the stability of the slope with grass plantation was significantly enhanced, and it was able to withstand rainfall event more severe than those with a return period of 100 years, with only minimal deformation. The results suggest that the gain in shear strength due to ryegrass roots surpasses the additional sliding force caused by the increased water retention capability. Additionally, it is found that the abrupt change in pore pressure was no longer indicative of slope failure in the case of the grass-reinforced slope.
