Comparison of fondaparinux sodium and low molecular weight heparin in the treatment of hypercoagulability secondary to traumatic infection

Purpose: To compare the effects and side-effects of fondaparinux sodium and low molecular weight heparin in patients with hypercoagulability accompanied with traumatic infection. Methods: Thirty-six patients with post-traumatic infections in our hospital intensive care center were diagnosed with hypercoagulability from February 2012 to February 2013. These patients were randomly divided into 2 groups. In group F (18 patients), the patients were treated with fondaparinux sodium, 2.5 mg, 1/d for 11 d. In group L (18 patients), the patients were treated with low molecular weight heparin, 4100 U, 1/12 h for 11 d. The incidence of deep vein thrombosis, bleeding events and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and mortality of two groups after anticoagulation therapy were analyzed. Fibrinogen, D-dimer level and activity of antithrombin III were measured by the coagulation analyzer. Results: The incidence of deep vein thrombosis, MODS incidence and mortality were not significantly different between the two groups. The rate of bleeding evens in group F was lower than group L ( p 0.05). D-dimer was significantly decreased after anticoagulant therapy for 5 d ( p 0.05). Conclusion: Fondaparinux sodium and low molecular weight heparin can effectively improve coagulopathy in patients with traumatic infection. Compared with low molecular weight heparin, fondaparinux sodium may reduce the risk of bleeding events in patients with hypercoagulability accompanied by traumatic infection.

A symplectic finite element method based on Galerkin discretization for solving linear systems

We propose a novel symplectic finite element method to solve the structural dynamic responses of linear elastic systems.For the dynamic responses of continuous medium structures,the traditional numerical algorithm is the dissipative algorithm and cannot maintain long-term energy conservation.Thus,a symplectic finite element method with energy conservation is constructed in this paper.A linear elastic system can be discretized into multiple elements,and a Hamiltonian system of each element can be constructed.The single element is discretized by the Galerkin method,and then the Hamiltonian system is constructed into the Birkhoffian system.Finally,all the elements are combined to obtain the vibration equation of the continuous system and solved by the symplectic difference scheme.Through the numerical experiments of the vibration response of the Bernoulli-Euler beam and composite plate,it is found that the vibration response solution and energy obtained with the algorithm are superior to those of the Runge-Kutta algorithm.The results show that the symplectic finite element method can keep energy conservation for a long time and has higher stability in solving the dynamic responses of linear elastic systems.

The reproductive success of flowering plants,which directly affects crop yield,is sensitive to environmental changes.A thorough understanding of how crop reproductive development adapts to climate changes is vital for ensuring global food security.In addition to being a high-value vegetable crop,tomato is also a model plant used for research on plant reproductive development.Tomato crops are cultivated under highly diverse climatic conditions worldwide.Targeted crosses of hybrid varieties have resulted in increased yields and abiotic stress resistance;however,tomato reproduction,especially male reproductive development,is sensitive to temperature fluctuations,which can lead to aborted male gametophytes,with detrimental effects on fruit set.We herein review the cytological features as well as genetic and molecular pathways influencing tomato male reproductive organ development and responses to abiotic stress.We also compare the shared features among the associated regulatory mechanisms of tomato and other plants.Collectively,this review highlights the opportunities and challenges related to characterizing and exploiting genic male sterility in tomato hybrid breeding programs.

The applicability of G-quadruplexes(G4s)as antiviral targets,therapeutic agents and diagnostic tools for coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is currently being evaluated,which has drawn the extensive attention of the scientific community.During the COVID-19 pandemic,research in this field is rapidly accumulating.In this review,we summarize the latest achievements and breakthroughs in the use of G4s as antiviral targets,therapeutic agents and diagnostic tools for COVID-19,particularly using G4 ligands.Finally,strength and weakness regarding G4s in anti-SARS-CoV-2 field are highlighted for prospective future projects.

Unified gas-kinetic particle method for dilute granular flow and its application in a solid jet

Because of its complexity,the problem of multiscale structure in granular flow has been receiving increasing attention.In this work,in order to conduct an in-depth exploration of the multiscale structure,a unified gas-kinetic particle(UGKP)method suitable for granular flow is constructed,in which the collision damping term and return-to-isotropy term are added to characterize the collision between particles.For the above two collision terms,the former characterizes the inelastic collision of particles,while the latter emphasizes the importance of the isotropic distribution of particles,which makes the results more reliable and reasonable.The construction of unified gas-kinetic schemes(UGKS)for granular flow has been reported in previous research.However,because of the need for discrete velocity space,the calculation size is quite large,making it impossible to use UGKS directly to investigate the multiscale problem.However,for UGKP,the flux contributed by particle free transport is calculated by free-streaming particles instead of discrete velocity space so that the corresponding calculation is much smaller than UGKS.The validity of the method is verified by numerical simulation of the solid jet compared with the particle-in-cell(PIC)method.In addition,since the sampled particles are used to obtain the flux contributed by the free transport,UGKP is more efficient than UGKS for solving multiscale problems.

Tuning nitrogen defects and doping sulfur in carbon nitride for enhanced visible light photocatalytic activity

Defect construction and heteroatom doping are effective strategies for improving photocatalytic activity of carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4)).In this work,N defects were successfully prepared via cold plasma.High-energy electrons generated by plasma can produce N defects and embed sulfur atoms into g-C_(3)N_(4).The N defects obviously promoted photocatalytic degradation performance that was 7.5 times higher than that of pure g-C_(3)N_(4).The concentration of N defects can be tuned by different power and time of plasma.With the increase in N defects,the photocatalytic activity showed a volcanic trend.The g-C_(3)N_(4)with moderate concentration of N defects exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity.S-doped g-C_(3)N_(4)exhibited 11.25 times higher photocatalytic activity than pure g-C_(3)N_(4).It provided extra active sites for photocatalytic reaction and improved stability of N defects.The N vacancy-enriched and S-doped g-C_(3)N_(4)are beneficial for widening absorption edge and improving the separation efficiency of electron and holes.

Perenniality:From model plants to applications in agriculture

To compensate for their sessile nature,plants have evolved sophisticated mechanisms enabling them to adapt to ever-changing environments.One such prominent feature is the evolution of diverse life history strategies,particularly such that annuals reproduce once followed by seasonal death,while perennials live longer by cycling growth seasonally.This intrinsic phenology is primarily genetic and can be altered by environmental factors.Although evolutionary transitions between annual and perennial life history strategies are common,perennials account for most species in nature because they survive well under year-round stresses.This proportion,however,is reversed in agriculture.Hence,perennial crops promise to likewise protect and enhance the resilience of agricultural ecosystems in response to climate change.Despite significant endeavors that have been made to generate perennial crops,progress is slow because of barriers in studying perennials,and many developed species await further improvement.Recent findings in model species have illustrated that simply rewiring existing genetic networks can lead to lifestyle variation.This implies that engineering plant life history strategy can be achieved by manipulating only a few key genes.In this review,we summarize our current understanding of genetic basis of perenniality and discuss major questions and challenges that remain to be addressed.

Forecasted Scenarios of Regional Wind Farms Based on Regular Vine Copulas

Owing to the uncertainty and volatility of wind energy,forecasted wind power scenarios with proper spatio-temporal correlations are needed in various decision-making problems involving power systems.In this study,forecasted scenarios are generated from an estimated multi-variate distribution of multiple regional wind farms.According to the theory of copulas,marginal distributions and the dependence structure of multi-variate distribution are modeled through the proposed distance-weighted kernel density estimation method and the regular vine(R-vine)copula,respectively.Owing to the flexibility of decomposing correlations of high dimensions into different types of pair-copulas,the R-vine copula provides more accurate results in describing the complicated dependence of wind power.In the case of 26 wind farms located in East China,highquality forecasted scenarios as well as the corresponding probabilistic forecasting and point forecasting results are obtained using the proposed method,and the results are evaluated using a comprehensive verification framework.
