Comparison of fondaparinux sodium and low molecular weight heparin in the treatment of hypercoagulability secondary to traumatic infection

Purpose: To compare the effects and side-effects of fondaparinux sodium and low molecular weight heparin in patients with hypercoagulability accompanied with traumatic infection. Methods: Thirty-six patients with post-traumatic infections in our hospital intensive care center were diagnosed with hypercoagulability from February 2012 to February 2013. These patients were randomly divided into 2 groups. In group F (18 patients), the patients were treated with fondaparinux sodium, 2.5 mg, 1/d for 11 d. In group L (18 patients), the patients were treated with low molecular weight heparin, 4100 U, 1/12 h for 11 d. The incidence of deep vein thrombosis, bleeding events and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and mortality of two groups after anticoagulation therapy were analyzed. Fibrinogen, D-dimer level and activity of antithrombin III were measured by the coagulation analyzer. Results: The incidence of deep vein thrombosis, MODS incidence and mortality were not significantly different between the two groups. The rate of bleeding evens in group F was lower than group L ( p 0.05). D-dimer was significantly decreased after anticoagulant therapy for 5 d ( p 0.05). Conclusion: Fondaparinux sodium and low molecular weight heparin can effectively improve coagulopathy in patients with traumatic infection. Compared with low molecular weight heparin, fondaparinux sodium may reduce the risk of bleeding events in patients with hypercoagulability accompanied by traumatic infection.

Estimating the number of Chinese cancer patients eligible for and benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitors

The total number of cancer patients who are eligible for and will benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)in China has not been quantified.This cross-sectional study was conducted to estimate the number of Chinese cancer patients with eligibility and response to ICIs based on the 2015 Chinese cancer statistics and the immune checkpoint inhibitor clinical practice guideline of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology.A total of 11 ICIs were recommended for 17 cancer types.The estimated number of eligible patients annually was 1290156(55.18%),which included 888738 males(60.05%)and 400468 females(46.67%).The estimated number of responders annually was 448972(19.20%),which included 309023 males(20.88%)and 139764 females(16.29%).Gastric cancer(n=291000,12.45%),non-small-cell lung cancer(n=289629,12.39%),and hepatocellular carcinoma(n=277100,11.85%)were the top three cancer types with the highest number of eligible patients.Non-small-cell lung cancer(n=180022,7.70%),hepatocellular carcinoma(n=75648,3.24%),and small-cell lung cancer(n=64362,2.75%)were the top three cancer types with the highest number of responders.In conclusion,ICIs provide considerable benefit in Chinese cancer patients under optimal estimation.

Sorption-enhanced chemical looping oxidative steam reforming of methanol for on-board hydrogen supply

Hydrogen is an indispensable energy carrier for the sustainable development of human society.Nevertheless,its storage,transportation,and in situ generation still face significant challenges.Methanol can be used as an intermediate carrier for hydrogen supplies,providing hydrogen energy through instant methanol conversion.In this study,a sorption-enhanced,chemical-looping,oxidative steam methanol-reforming(SECLOSRM)process is proposed using CuO–MgO for the on-board hydrogen supply,which could be a promising method for safe and efficient hydrogen production.Aspen Plus software was used for feasibility verification and parameter optimization of the SECL-OSRM process.The effects of CuO/CH_(3)OH,MgO/CH_(3)OH,and H_(2)O/CH_(3)OH mole ratios and of temperature on H_(2)production rate,H utilization efficiency,CH_(3)OH conversion,CO concentration,and system heat balance are discussed thoroughly.The results indicate that the system can be operated in autothermal conditions with high-purity hydrogen(99.50 vol%)and ultra-low-concentration CO(<50 ppm)generation,which confirms the possibility of integrating low-temperature proton-exchange membrane fuel cells(LT-PEFMCs)with the SECL-OSRM process.The simulation results indicate that the CO can be modulated in a lower concentration by reducing the temperature and by improving the H_(2)O/CH_(3)OH and MgO/CH_(3)OH mole ratios.

Variability in the climate-radial growth correlation of Pinus massoniana of different diameter classes

The physiological characteristics of trees change with age,suggesting that growth-related climate signals vary over time.This study aimed to clarify the impacts of different diameter classes on the chronological characteristics of Pinus massoniana Lamb.and its response to climatic factors.Chronologies of P inus massoniana were established in small diameter(14.1 cm),middle diameter(27.3 cm),and large diameter(34.6 cm)trees according to dendrochronology.The results show that:(1)radial growth of different diameter classes had varied characteristics and climate sensitivities;(2)radial growth of small diameter trees was affected by climatic factors of the previous and the current year,while large diameter trees were mainly affected by climatic factors of the current year;and(3)precipitation and temperature were key factors that restricted the radial growth of small and large diameter trees,respectively.

Enhanced metronidazole removal by binary-species photoelectrogenic biofilm of microaglae and anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria

High efficient removal of antibiotics during nutriments recovery for biomass production poses a major technical challenge for photosynthetic microbial biofilm-based wastewater treatment since antibiotics are always co-exist with nutriments in wastewater and resist biodegradation due to their strong biotoxicity and recalcitrance.In this study,we make a first attempt to enhance metronidazole(MNZ)removal from wastewater using electrochemistry-activated binary-species photosynthetic biofilm of Rhodopseudomonas Palustris(R.Palustris)and Chlorella vulgaris(C.vulgaris)by cultivating them under different applied potentials.The results showed that application of external potentials of-0.3,0 and 0.2 V led to 11,33 and 26-fold acceleration in MNZ removal,respectively,as compared to that of potential free.The extent of enhancement in MNZ removal was positively correlated to the intensities of photosynthetic current produced under different externally applied potentials.The binary-species photoelectrogenic biofilm exhibited 18 and 6-fold higher MNZ removal rate than that of single-species of C.vulgaris and R.Palustris,respectively,due to the enhanced metabolic interaction between them.Application of an external potential of 0V significantly promoted the accumulation of tryptophan and tyrosine-like compounds as well as humic acid in ex-tracellular polymeric substance,whose concentrations were 7.4,7.1 and 2.0-fold higher than those produced at potential free,contributing to accelerated adsorption and reductive and photosensitive degradation of MNZ.

Low Voltage Direct Current Supply and Utilization System:Definition,Key Technologies and Development

With rapid increase of distributed solar power generation and direct current(DC)based loads such as data centers,electric vehicles(EVs),and DC household appliances,the development trend of the power system is changed from conventional alternate current(AC)to DC.Traditional AC power systems can scarcely meet the development demand of new DC trends,especially since both the generation side and load side are comprised of DC-based electronic power components.With this background,low voltage direct current supply and utilization system(LVDCSUS)has attracted more and more attention for its great advantages over an AC grid to overcome challenges in operation,reliability,and energy loss in renewable energy connection,DC load power utilization and a number of other aspects.However,the definition of the LVDCSUS is still not clear even though many demonstration projects have been put into planning and operation.In order to provide a clear description of LVDCSUS,first,the characteristics of LVDCSUS are illustrated in this paper to show the advance of the LVDCSUS.Second,the potential application scenarios of LVDCSUS are presented in this paper.Third,application of LVDCSUS technologies and some demonstration projects in China are introduced.Besides the development of the LVDCSUS,key technologies,including but not limited to planning and design,voltage levels,control strategies,and key equipment of LVDCSUS,are discussed in this paper.Finally,future application areas and the research orientations of LVDCSUS are analyzed.

Pine wilt disease detection in high-resolution UAV images using object-oriented classification

Pine wilt disease(PWD)is currently one of the main causes of large-scale forest destruction.To control the spread of PWD,it is essential to detect affected pine trees quickly.This study investigated the feasibility of using the object-oriented multi-scale segmentation algorithm to identify trees discolored by PWD.We used an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)platform equipped with an RGB digital camera to obtain high spatial resolution images,and multiscale segmentation was applied to delineate the tree crown,coupling the use of object-oriented classification to classify trees discolored by PWD.Then,the optimal segmentation scale was implemented using the estimation of scale parameter(ESP2)plug-in.The feature space of the segmentation results was optimized,and appropriate features were selected for classification.The results showed that the optimal scale,shape,and compactness values of the tree crown segmentation algorithm were 56,0.5,and 0.8,respectively.The producer’s accuracy(PA),user’s accuracy(UA),and F1 score were 0.722,0.605,and 0.658,respectively.There were no significant classification errors in the final classification results,and the low accuracy was attributed to the low number of objects count caused by incorrect segmentation.The multi-scale segmentation and object-oriented classification method could accurately identify trees discolored by PWD with a straightforward and rapid processing.This study provides a technical method for monitoring the occurrence of PWD and identifying the discolored trees of disease using UAV-based high-resolution images.

Hyperspectral anomaly detection via memory‐augmented autoencoders

Recently,the autoencoder(AE)based method plays a critical role in the hyperspectral anomaly detection domain.However,due to the strong generalised capacity of AE,the abnormal samples are usually reconstructed well along with the normal background samples.Thus,in order to separate anomalies from the background by calculating reconstruction errors,it can be greatly beneficial to reduce the AE capability for abnormal sample reconstruction while maintaining the background reconstruction performance.A memory‐augmented autoencoder for hyperspectral anomaly detection(MAENet)is proposed to address this challenging problem.Specifically,the proposed MAENet mainly consists of an encoder,a memory module,and a decoder.First,the encoder transforms the original hyperspectral data into the low‐dimensional latent representation.Then,the latent representation is utilised to retrieve the most relevant matrix items in the memory matrix,and the retrieved matrix items will be used to replace the latent representation from the encoder.Finally,the decoder is used to reconstruct the input hyperspectral data using the retrieved memory items.With this strategy,the background can still be reconstructed well while the abnormal samples cannot.Experiments conducted on five real hyperspectral anomaly data sets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the protective effect of resveratrol on cardiomyocytes after hypoxia/reoxygenation intervention based on PTEN-induced putative kinase protein 1/Parkinson disease protein 2(PINK1/PARKIN)signaling pathway.METHODS:3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide was used to detect the effect of resveratrol on the viability of H9C2 cells;the hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R)model was established in tri-gas incubator;2’,7’-Dichlorofluorescin diacetate staining was used to measure the content of reactive oxygen species(ROS);the changes of mitochondrial membrane potential was determined by 5,5’,6,6’-Tetrachloro-1,1’,3,3’-tetraethyl-imidacarbocyanine iodide staining;the changes of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex activity was evaluated by enzyme activity kits;flow cytometry was used to detect the ratio of apoptotic cells;transmission electron microscope was used to observe the ultrastructure of H9C2 cells;Western blot was used to detect the protein changes of mitochondrial 20 k Da outer membrane protein(TOM20),translocase of inner mitochondrial membrane 23(TIM23),presenilins associated rhomboid-like protein(PARL),PINK1,PARKIN and mitofusin 1(Mfn1),mitofusin 2(Mfn2),phosphotyrosine independent ligand for the Lck SH2 domain of 62 k Da(P62),microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 beta(LC3B);the m RNA levels of PINK1 and PARKIN was detected by quantitative polymerase chain reaction;immunoprecipitation assay was used to detect the interaction between PARKIN and Ubiquitin.RESULTS:Resveratrol could inhibit the proliferation of H9C2 cells in a time-and concentration-dependent manner;however,pretreatment with low cytotoxic resveratrol could reduce the H/R-induced increase in cellular ROS levels,alleviate the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential induced by H/R,inhibit H/R-induced apoptosis of H9C2 cells,and protect the mitochondrial structure and respiratory chain of H9C2 cells from H/R damage.Resveratrol could further increase the levels of p62,PINK1,PARKIN protein,the expression of

DEM investigation on conveying of non-spherical particles in a screw conveyor

Screw conveyors are extensively used in modern industry such as metallurgy,architecture and pharmaceutical due to their high-efficiency in the transportation of granular materials.And substantial efforts have been devoted to the study of the screw conveyors.Numerical method is an effective way to study screw conveyor.However,previous studies have mainly focused in the regime of spherical particles while the in-depth investigations for non-spherical particles that should be the most encountered in practical applications are still limited.In view of the above situations,discrete element method(DEM),which has been widely accepted in simulating the discrete systems,is utilized to investigate the conveying process of non-spherical particles in a horizontal screw conveyor,with particles being modeled by super-ellipsoids.In addition,a wear model called SIEM(Shear Impact Energy Model)is incorporated into DEM to predict the wear of screw conveyor.The DEM simulation results demonstrate that the particle shape is influential for the flow behaviors of particles and the wear of conveyor.The conveying performance evaluated quantitatively of both mass flow rate and power consumption is subsequently obtained to investigate the effect of sphericity of particle with different operation parameters.Moreover,particle collision frequency and collision energy consumption are acquired to investigate the possible particle breakage between particles and screw blade.The comparisons between particle-particle collision and particle-wall collision reveal that particles with large shape index have more possibility to be damaged in particle-wall impingement.
