Singularity Theory on Buckling of Compressible Slender Rods with Deformation of Cross Section

The crucial effect of compressibility of rods on their instability is novelly demonstrated via singularity theory. It is shown that the critical load of compressible rod is always greater than the one of the Euler rod, and a subcritical pitchfork bifurcation, which cannot occur for the Euler rod, may occur for a compressible rod. A whole bifurcation diagram of compressible rods is as follows ： when the original slenderness ratio of a compressible rod, $o is smaller than （1 ＋ v/3 √3π/2,, the rod does not buckle; when So∈ [1＋ v/3）3√3π/2 ,（1＋v/5）5 5√5π/4）,the rod may undergo a subcritical pitchfork bifurcation and a collapse may occur; when So ∈ [1＋ v/5）5√5π/4 ＋ ∞）, the rod may undergo a supercritical pitchfork bifurcation. The deformation of cross section of rods causes a little shift of bifurcation points towards to the one corresponding to larger slenderness ratio.

Mineral aerosol particles significantly impact environmental risk prediction of liquid crystal monomers(LCMs).In this work,we investigated the reaction mechanisms and kinetics of three typical LCMs(4-cyano-3,5-difluorophenyl 4-ethylbenzoate(CEB-2F),4-cyano-3-fluorophenyl 4-ethylbenzoate(CEB-F),and 4-cyanophenyl 4-ethylbenzoate(CEB))with ozone(O_(3))in the atmospheric gas,liquid,and particle phases employing density functional theory(DFT).Here,O_(3)is prone to add to the benzene ring without F atom(s)in the selected *** ozonolysis products are aldehydes,carboxylic acids,epoxides,and unsaturated hydrocarbons containing aromatic *** products undergo secondary ozonolysis to generate small molecular compounds such as glyoxal,which is beneficial for generating secondary organic aerosol(SOA).Titanium dioxide(TiO_(2)),an essential component of mineral aerosol particles,has good adsorption properties for LCMs;however,it slightly reduces the reactivity with O_(3).At 298 K,the reaction rate constant of the selected LCMs reacting with O_(3)in the gas and atmospheric liquid phases is(2.74–5.53)×10^(-24)cm^(3)/(mol·sec)and 5.58×10^(-3)–39.1 L/(mol·sec),while CEB-2F reacting with O_(3)on(TiO_(2))_(6)cluster is 1.84×10^(-24)cm^(3)/(mol·sec).The existence of TiO_(2)clusters increases the persistence and long-distance transportability of LCMs,which enlarges the contaminated area of LCMs.

Both sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)and potassium-ion batteries(PIBs)are considered as promising candidates in grid-level energy storage ***,the larger ionic radii of K+and Na+induce poor diffusion kinetics and cycling stability of carbon anode *** structure regulation is an ideal strategy to promote the diffusion kinetics and cyclic stability of carbon materials by facilitating electrolyte infiltration,increasing the transport channels,and alleviating the volume ***,traditional pore-forming agent-assisted methods considerably increase the difficulty of synthesis and limit practical applications of porous carbon ***,porous carbon materials(Ca-PC/Na-PC/K-PC)with different pore structures have been prepared with gluconates as the precursors,and the amorphous structure,abundant micropores,and oxygen-doping active sites endow the Ca-PC anode with excellent potassium and sodium storage *** PIBs,the capacitive contribution ratio of Ca-PC is 82%at 5.0 mV s^(-1) due to the introduction of micropores and high oxygen-doping content,while a high reversible capacity of 121.4 mAh g^(-1) can be reached at 5 A g^(-1) after 2000 *** SIBs,stable sodium storage capacity of 101.4 mAh g^(-1) can be achieved at 2 A g^(-1) after 8000 cycles with a very low decay rate of 0.65%for per *** work may provide an avenue for the application of porous carbon materials in the energy storage field.

Ultra-low frequency magnetic energy focusing for highly effective wireless powering of deep-tissue implantable electronic devices

The limited lifespan of batteries is a challenge in the application of implantable electronic devices. Existing wireless power technologies such as ultrasound, near-infrared light and magnetic fields cannot charge devices implanted in deep tissues, resulting in energy attenuation through tissues and thermal ***, an ultra-low frequency magnetic energy focusing(ULFMEF) methodology was developed for the highly effective wireless powering of deep-tissue implantable devices. A portable transmitter was used to output the low-frequency magnetic field(<50 Hz), which remotely drives the synchronous rotation of a magnetic core integrated within the pellet-like implantable device, generating an internal rotating magnetic field to induce wireless electricity on the coupled coils of the device. The ULFMEF can achieve energy transfer across thick tissues(up to 20 cm) with excellent transferred power(4–15 mW) and non-heat effects in tissues, which is remarkably superior to existing wireless powering technologies. The ULFMEF is demonstrated to wirelessly power implantable micro-LED devices for optogenetic neuromodulation, and wirelessly charged an implantable battery for programmable electrical stimulation on the sciatic nerve. It also bypassed thick and tough protective shells to power the implanted devices. The ULFMEF thus offers a highly advanced methodology for the generation of wireless powered biodevices.

An experimental and theoretical study on photoluminescence of Ce^(3+)-doped ZnS quantum dots and their application in Aspergillus oryzae

ZnS and ZnS:3.125%Ce^(3+)(ZSC)quantum dots(QDs)were synthesized by a low-temperature solid-phase *** crystal structure,photoluminescence(PL)properties of ZSC QDs,and their effects on the growth and kojic acid production of Aspergillus oryzae(***)were *** is found that both QDs have a cubic blend structure with the average particle size ranging of 2.75-6.14 ***^(3+)doping not only increases the band gap of ZnS QDs from 3.43 to 3.48 eV,but also increases the PL intensity by about 2.23 times,which is due to the fact that the electron carrier concentration is improved,and then the rate of radiative recombination is *** integral emission intensity,biomass,extracellular proteins yield,and kojic acid production of *** cultured with ZSC(ZnS)QDs are about 4.31(3.23),1.61(1.20),1.12(1.09),and 2.99(1.68)times higher than that of medium without QDs,respectively.
