Clustering is the discovery of latent group structure in data and is a fundamental problem in artificial intelligence,and a vital procedure in data-driven scientific research over all disciplines.Yet,existing methods have various limitations,especially we ak cognitive interpretability and poor computational scalability,when it comes to clustering massive datasets that are increasingly available in all domains.Here,by simulating the multi-scale cognitive observation process of humans,we design a scalable algorithm to detect clusters hierarchically hidden in massive datasets.The observation scale changes,following the Weber-Fechner law to capture the gradually emerging meaningful grouping structure.We validated our approach in real datasets with up to a billion records and 2000 dimensions,including taxi trajectories,single-cell gene expressions,face images,computer logs and audios.Our approach outperformed popular methods in usability,efficiency,effectiveness and robustness across different domains.

The recycling and remanufacturing of end-of-life products are significant for environmental protection and resource conservation.Disassembly is an essential process of remanufacturing end-of-life products.Effective disassembly plans help improve disassembly efficiency and reduce disassembly costs.This paper studies a disassembly planning problem with operation attributes,in which an integrated decision of the disassembly sequence,disassembly directions,and disassembly tools are made.Besides,a mathematical model is formulated with the objective of minimizing the penalty cost caused by the changing of operation attributes.Then,a neighborhood modularization-based artificial bee colony algorithm is developed,which contains a modular optimized design.Finally,two case studies with different scales and complexities are used to verify the performance of the proposed approach,and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the two existing methods within an acceptable computational time.

Mercury emitted from direct combustion of high-mercury coal does great harm to the environment. To make good use of high-mercury coal, it is necessary to study the occurrence characteristics of mercury in coal and high-efficient methods of mercury removal. In this paper, high-mercury coal of Guizhou Province of China was taken as an object to study the nature of mercury in coal and the rule of mercury removal by dry preparation method. Mercury mainly distributes in the medium and high density fractions, and has a good affinity with silicon, aluminum, iron, titanium, potassium, calcium, zinc, sodium and magnesium. It exists in minerals formed by these elements and presents significant correlation with ash in coal. After the high-mercury coal is separated by air dense medium fluidized bed, mercury content of clean coal is reduced to 1/10 of raw coal, while mercury content of gangue is increased to 3 times that of raw coal. This indicates that mercury in raw coal is rejected greatly by ADMFB and enriched in highdensity fractions. The rates of ash removal and mercury removal decrease with the density and present a very high correlation.

Guidance strategy of motion camouflage for spacecraft pursuit-evasion game

This work is inspired by a stealth pursuit behavior called motion camouflage whereby a pursuer approaches an evader while the pursuer camouflages itself against a predetermined background.We formulate the spacecraft pursuit-evasion problem as a stealth pursuit strategy of motion camouflage,in which the pursuer tries to minimize a motion camouflage index defined in this paper.The Euler-Hill reference frame whose origin is set on the circular reference orbit is used to describe the dynamics.Based on the rule of motion camouflage,a guidance strategy in open-loop form to achieve motion camouflage index is derived in which the pursuer lies on the camouflage constraint line connecting the central spacecraft and evader.In order to dispose of the dependence on the evader acceleration in the open-loop guidance strategy,we further consider the motion camouflage pursuit problem within an infinite-horizon nonlinear quadratic differential game.The saddle point solution to the game is derived by using the state-dependent Riccati equation method,and the resulting closed-loop guidance strategy is effective in achieving motion camouflage.Simulations are performed to demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed guidance strategies for the pursuit–evasion game scenario.

Longitudinal genetic analysis of growth-related traits in red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii (Girard)

The red swamp crayfish,Procambarus clarkii,is an economically important species especially in China.Their exoskeleton places serious constraints on growth and culture management.Their growth is achieved through intermittent molting/ecdysis.The longitudinal genetic dynamics for growth-related traits at different ecdysial points in P.clarkii has been unclear to date.In this study,conditional genetic analysis was carried out for growth-related traits(body weight,body length,chela length,and cephalothorax length)based upon a mixed genetic model with conditional additive,dominance,and genotype by environment effects in P.clarkii.A complete diallel cross was made among three geographic populations of P.clarkii for the genetic mating design.Results of the conditional genetic analysis showed that from 4 th molt to 9 th molt the conditional additive variations were increased significantly whereas the conditional non-additive genetic variations(dominance and genotype by environment interaction)were decreased significantly for these growth-related traits.This indicated that lots of new expression of additive effect genes for body weight,body length,chela length,and cephalothorax length occurred during ontogeny,and environment played a signifi cant role in the expression of genes affecting these growth-related traits.Growth of the four traits was mainly affected by non-additive genetic effects in early developmental stage(prior to 4 th molt).The cumulative conditional additive variation for the growth-related traits from 4 th molt to 9 th molt accounted for a large majority of the total conditional additive variations from 2 nd molt to 9 th molt,indicating that this period was very important for the growth of this species.Using the conditional analysis method,dynamics of growth-related traits during an important ontogenetic phase of red swamp crayfish was uncovered.Our results provide valuable insights into refining production of this species.

Irreversible phenotypic perturbation and functional impairment of B cells during HIV-1 infection

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 （HIV-1） infection can damage humoral immunity. The knowledge of B cell perturbations during chronic HIV-1 infection and their recovery after combined antiretroviral therapy （cART） is not complete yet, and thus attempts to further improve humoral immunity are impeded. In this study, an HIV-1 chronically infected cohort with similar demographics, infection history, genetic background, and HIV-1 genotype was established to probe B cell perturbations. Results showed that the B cells from this cohort were highly activated and prone to cell death, and B cell compartments were altered significantly. Notably, although cART partially reversed the hyperactivation and reduced tissue-like memory B cells, other B cell perturbations, including impaired expression of survival factor Bcl-2, costimulatory molecules, and shrunken resting memory B cells, were irreversible. Further functional characterization revealed that the influenza HA- specific antibody-secreting cells were significantly lower during HIV-1 infection, whereas the recalled antibody response to HIV-l-specific antigens was decreased after cART. Finally, CpG plus R848 treatment increased the survival of B cells and memory B cells in vitro from HIV-l-infected patients. In conclusion, this study identified irreversible B cell immune perturbations in chronic HIV-1 infections regardless of cART and proposed the potential strategy to enhance B cell functions through the improvement of cell survival.

The penetration behavior of topical substances in the skin not only relates to the transdermal delivery efficiency but also involves the safety and therapeutic effect of topical products,such as sunscreen and hair growth products.Researchers have tried to illustrate the transdermal process with diversified theories and technologies.Directly observing the distribution of topical substances on skin by characteristic imaging is the most convincing approach.Unfortunately,fluorescence labeling imaging,which is commonly used in biochemical research,is limited for transdermal research for most topical substances with a molecular mass less than 500 Da.Label-free imaging technologies possess the advantages of not requiring any macromolecular dyes,no tissue destruction and an extensive substance detection capability,which has enabled rapid development of such technologies in recent years and their introduction to biological tissue analysis,such as skin samples.Through the specific identification of topical substances and endogenous tissue components,label-free imaging technologies can provide abundant tissue distribution information,enrich theoretical and practical guidance for transdermal drug delivery systems.In this review,we expound the mechanisms and applications of the most popular label-free imaging technologies in transdermal research at present,compare their advantages and disadvantages,and forecast development prospects.

Influenza A virus(IAV),responsible for seasonal epidemics and recurring pandemics,represents a global threat to public health.Given the risk of a potential IAV pandemic,it is increasingly important to better understand virushost interactions and develop new anti-viral strategies.Here,we reported nonmuscle myosin IIA(MYH9)-mediated regulation of IAV infection.MYH9 depletion caused a profound inhibition of IAV infection by reducing viral attachment and internalization in human lung epithelial cells.Surprisingly,overexpression of MYH9 also led to a significant reduction in viral productive infection.Interestingly,overexpression of MYH9 retained viral attachment,internalization,or uncoating,but suppressed the viral ribonucleoprotein(vRNP)activity in a minigenome system.Further analyses found that excess MYH9 might interrupt the formation of vRNP by interacting with the viral nucleoprotein(NP)and result in the reduction of the completed vRNP in the nucleus,thereby inhibiting subsequent viral RNA transcription and replication.Together,we discovered that MYH9 can interact with IAV NP protein and engage in the regulation of vRNP complexes,thereby involving viral replication.These findings enlighten new mechanistic insights into the complicated interface of host-IAV interactions,ultimately making it an attractive target for the generation of antiviral drugs.

Salt effect on MUCT system performance of nitrogen and phosphorus removal

The effect of salinity on biological nitrogen and denitrifying phosphorus removal was investigated in a Modified University of Cape Town(MUCT)system.Removal rates of COD,NH_(4)^(+)-N,NO_(3)^(-)-N,NO_(2)^(-)-N,phosphorus and the sludge characteristics at salt concentrations(0.0,3.2,6.4,11.2 and 16.0 g L^(-1))were analyzed.With the salt concentration increasing,all the COD,NH_(4)^(+)-N,TN and TP removal rates exhibited a trend of decline,and exhibited an initial reduction and subsequent increase at every stage of salt concentration.NH_(4)^(+)-N,TN and TP removal rates were 92.7%,51.5%and 67.2%in 16 g L^(-1) salt concentration,respectively.And they were outperformed the literature reported and acceptable in practical applications.When the salinity of wastewater changed from 0.0 to 16.0 g L^(-1),the biomass yield coefficients increased from 0.0794 to 0.126 g VSS/g COD.Increased salinity had a detrimental effect on phosphorus-accumulating organisms(PAOs)and denitrifying PAOs(DPAOs)(especially DPAOs).Therefore,phosphorus removal gradually depended on PAO.The simultaneous nitrification and denitrification(SND)rate and nitrogen removal rate(including nitrification rate,denitrification rate,and total nitrogen removal rate)gradually decreased with the increased salinity.
