Effects of land-use patterns on soil microbial diversity and composition in the Loess Plateau,China

In the Loess Plateau of China,land-use pattern is a major factor in controlling underlying biological processes.Additionally,the process of land-use pattern was accompanied by abandoned lands,potentially impacting soil microbe.However,limited researches were conducted to study the impacts of land-use patterns on the diversity and community of soil microorganisms in this area.The study aimed to investigate soil microbial community diversity and composition using high-throughput deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)sequencing under different land-use patterns(apricot tree land,apple tree land,peach tree land,corn land,and abandoned land).The results showed a substantial difference(P<0.050)in bacterial alpha-diversity and beta-diversity between abandoned land and other land-use patterns,with the exception of Shannon index.While fungal beta-diversity was not considerably impacted by land-use patterns,fungal alpha-diversity indices varied significantly.The relative abundance of Actinobacteriota(34.90%),Proteobacteria(20.65%),and Ascomycota(77.42%)varied in soils with different land-use patterns.Soil pH exerted a dominant impact on the soil bacterial communities'composition,whereas soil available phosphorus was the main factor shaping the soil fungal communities'composition.These findings suggest that variations in land-use pattern had resulted in changes to soil properties,subsequently impacting diversity and structure of microbial community in the Loess Plateau.Given the strong interdependence between soil and its microbiota,it is imperative to reclaim abandoned lands to maintain soil fertility and sustain its function,which will have significant ecological service implications,particularly with regards to soil conservation in ecologically vulnerable areas.

Isolation and microbial transformation of tea sapogenin from seed pomace of Camellia oleifera with anti-inflammatory effects

In the current study,tea saponin,identified as the primary bioactive constituent in seed pomace of Camellia oleifera Abel.,was meticulously extracted and hydrolyzed to yield five known sapogenins:16-O-tiglogycamelliagnin B(a),camelliagnin A(b),16-O-angeloybarringtogenol C(c),theasapogenol E(d),theasapogenol F(e).Subsequent biotransformation of compound a facilitated the isolation of six novel metabolites(a1−a6).The anti-inflammatory potential of these compounds was assessed using pathogenassociated molecular patterns(PAMPs)and damage-associated molecular patterns molecules(DAMPs)-mediated cellular inflammation models.Notably,compounds b and a2 demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on both lipopolysaccharide(LPS)and high-mobility group box 1(HMGB1)-induced inflammation,surpassing the efficacy of the standard anti-inflammatory agent,carbenoxolone.Conversely,compounds d,a3,and a6 selectivity targeted endogenous HMGB1-induced inflammation,showcasing a pronounced specificity.These results underscore the therapeutic promise of C.oleifera seed pomace-derived compounds as potent agents for the management of inflammatory diseases triggered by infections and tissue damage.

Buckling Properties of Water-Drop-Shaped Pressure Hulls with Various Shape Indices Under Hydrostatic External Pressure

The water-drop-shaped pressure hull has a good streamline,which has good application prospect in the underwater observatory.Therefore,this study conducted analytical,experimental and numerical investigation of the buckling properties of water-drop-shaped pressure hulls under hydrostatic pressure.A water-drop experiment was conducted to design water-drop-shaped pressure hulls with various shape indices.The critical loads for the water-drop-shaped pressure hulls were resolved by using Mushtari’s formula.Several numerical simulations including linear buckling analysis and nonlinear buckling analysis including eigenmode imperfections were performed.The results indicated that the critical loads resolved by Mushtari's formula were in good agreement with the linear buckling loads from the numerical simulations.This formula can be extended to estimate the buckling capacity of water-drop-shaped pressure hulls.In addition,three groups of pressure hulls were fabricated by using stereolithography,a rapid prototyping technique.Subsequently,three groups of the pressure hulls were subjected to ultrasonic measurements,optical scanning,hydrostatic testing and numerical analysis.The experimental results were consistent with the numerical results.The results indicate that the sharp end of the water-drop-shaped pressure hulls exhibited instability compared with the blunt end.This paper provides a new solution to the limitations of experimental studies on the water-drop-shaped pressure hulls as well as a new configuration and evaluation method for underwater observatories.

Synthesis and anti-HIV activities of phorbol derivatives

In this study,37 derivatives of phorbol esters were synthesized and their anti-HIV-1 activities evaluated,building upon our previous synthesis of 51 phorbol derivatives.12-Para-electron-acceptor-trans-cinnamoyl-13-decanoyl phorbol derivatives stood out,demonstrating remarkable anti-HIV-1 activities and inhibitory effects on syncytia formation.These derivatives exhibited a higher safety index compared with the positive control drug.Among them,12-(trans-4-fluorocinnamoyl)-13-decanoyl phorbol,designated as compound 3c,exhibited the most potent anti-HIV-1 activity(EC_(50)2.9 nmol·L^(−1),CC50/EC_(50)11117.24)and significantly inhibited the formation of syncytium(EC_(50)7.0 nmol·L^(−1),CC50/EC_(50)4891.43).Moreover,compound 3c is hypothesized to act both as an HIV-1 entry inhibitor and as an HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitor.Isothermal titration calorimetry and molecular docking studies indicated that compound 3c may also function as a natural activator of protein kinase C(PKC).Therefore,compound 3c emerges as a potential candidate for developing new anti-HIV drugs.

Association of Serum Folate and Vitamin B_(12) Concentrations with Obesity in Chinese Children and Adolescents

Objective This study aimed to evaluate the associations of serum folate and/or vitamin B12 concentrations with obesity among Chinese children and adolescents.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted including 3,079 Chinese children and adolescents,aged 6 to 17 years,from jiangsu,China.Anthropometric indices,such as,children's body mass index(BMI),BMI z-scores,waist circumference,and waist-to-height ratio were utilized.Multivariable linear regression and generalized additive models were used to investigate the associations of serum folate and vitamin B12 levels with anthropometric indices and odds of obesity.Results We observed that serum vitamin B12 concentrations were inversely associated with all anthropometric indices and the odds of general obesity[odds ratio(OR)=0.68;95%confidence interval(CI)=0.59,0.78]and abdominal obesity(OR=0.68;95%CI=0.60,0.77).When compared to participants with both serum vitamin levels in the two middle quartiles,those with both serum folate and vitamin B12 levels in the highest quartile were less prone to general(OR=0.31,95%CI=0.19,0.50)or abdominal obesity(OR=0.46,95%CI=0.31,0.67).Conversely,participants with vitamin B12 levels in the lowest quartile alongside folate levels in the highest quartile had higher odds of abdominal obesity(OR=2.06,95%CI=1.09,3.91).Conclusion Higher serum vitamin B12 concentrations,but not serum folate concentrations,were associated with lower odds of childhood obesity.Children and adolescents with high levels of vitamin B12 and folate were less likely to be obese.

Phorbol esters are recognized for their dual role as anti-HIV-1 agents and as activators of protein kinase C(PKC).The efficacy of phorbol esters in binding with PKC is attributed to the presence of oxygen groups at positions C20,C3/C4,and C9 of phorbol.Concurrently,the lipids located at positions C12/C13 are essential for both the anti-HIV-1 activity and the formation of the PKC-ligand complex.The influence of the cyclopropane ring at positions C13 and C14 in phorbol derivatives on their anti-HIV-1 activity requires further exploration.This research entailed the hydrolysis of phorbol,producing seco-cyclic phorbol derivatives.The anti-HIV-1 efficacy of these derivatives was assessed,and the affinity constant(Kd)for PKC-δprotein of selected seco-cyclic phorbol derivatives was determined through isothermal titration calorimetry.The findings suggest that the chemical modification of cyclopropanols could affect both the anti-HIV-1 activity and the PKC binding affinity.Remarkably,compound S11,with an EC_(50) of 0.27μmol·L^(−1) and a CC_(50) of 153.92μmol·L^(−1),demonstrated a potent inhibitory effect on the intermediate products of HIV-1 reverse transcription(ssDNA and 2LTR),likely acting at the viral entry stage,yet showed no affinity for the PKC-δprotein.These results position compound S11 as a potential candidate for further preclinical investigation and for studies aimed at elucidating the pharmacological mechanism underlying its anti-HIV-1 activity.

Nanophononic metamaterials induced proximity effect in heat flux regulation

Recent studies have shown that the construction of nanophononic metamaterials can reduce thermal conductivity without affecting electrical properties,making them promising in many fields of application,such as energy conversion and thermal management.However,although extensive studies have been carried out on thermal conductivity reduction in nanophononic metamaterials,the local heat flux characteristic is still unclear.In this work,we construct a heat flux regulator which includes a silicon nanofilm with silicon pillars.The regulator has remarkable heat flux regulation ability,and various impacts on the regulation ability are explored.Surprisingly,even in the region without nanopillars,the local heat current is still lower than that in pristine silicon nanofilms,reduced by the neighboring nanopillars through the thermal proximity effect.We combine the analysis of the phonon participation ratio with the intensity of localized phonon modes to provide a clear explanation.Our findings not only provide insights into the mechanisms of heat flux regulation by nanophononic metamaterials,but also will open up new research directions to control local heat flux for a broad range of applications,including heat management,thermoelectric energy conversion,thermal cloak,and thermal concentrator.

Global patterns and ecological drivers of taxonomic and phylogenetic endemism in angiosperm genera

Endemism of lineages lies at the core of understanding variation in community composition among geographic regions because it reflects how speciation,extinction,and dispersal have influenced current distributions.Here,we investigated geographic patterns and ecological drivers of taxonomic and phylogenetic endemism of angiosperm genera across the world.We identify centers of paleo-endemism and neo-endemism of angiosperm genera,and show that they are mostly located in the Southern Hemisphere in tropical and subtropical regions,particularly in Asia and Australia.Different categories of phylogenetic endemism centers can be differentiated using current climate conditions.Current climate,historical climate change,and geographic variables together explained~80%of global variation in taxonomic and phylogenetic endemism,while 42-46%,1%,and 15%were independently explained by these three types of variables,respectively.Thus our findings show that past climate change,current climate,and geography act together in shaping endemism,which are consistent with the findings of previous studies that higher temperature and topographic heterogeneity promote endemism.Our study showed that many centers of phylogenetic endemism of angiosperms,including regions in Amazonia,Venezuela,and west-central tropical Africa that have not previously been identified as biodiversity hotspots,are missed by taxon-based measures of endemism,indicating the importance of including evolutionary history in biodiversity assessment.

An Industrial Intrusion Detection Method Based on Hybrid Convolutional Neural Networks with Improved TCN

Network intrusion detection systems(NIDS)based on deep learning have continued to make significant advances.However,the following challenges remain:on the one hand,simply applying only Temporal Convolutional Networks(TCNs)can lead to models that ignore the impact of network traffic features at different scales on the detection performance.On the other hand,some intrusion detection methods considermulti-scale information of traffic data,but considering only forward network traffic information can lead to deficiencies in capturing multi-scale temporal features.To address both of these issues,we propose a hybrid Convolutional Neural Network that supports a multi-output strategy(BONUS)for industrial internet intrusion detection.First,we create a multiscale Temporal Convolutional Network by stacking TCN of different scales to capture the multiscale information of network traffic.Meanwhile,we propose a bi-directional structure and dynamically set the weights to fuse the forward and backward contextual information of network traffic at each scale to enhance the model’s performance in capturing the multi-scale temporal features of network traffic.In addition,we introduce a gated network for each of the two branches in the proposed method to assist the model in learning the feature representation of each branch.Extensive experiments reveal the effectiveness of the proposed approach on two publicly available traffic intrusion detection datasets named UNSW-NB15 and NSL-KDD with F1 score of 85.03% and 99.31%,respectively,which also validates the effectiveness of enhancing the model’s ability to capture multi-scale temporal features of traffic data on detection performance.

Monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma with bone marrow involved: A case report

BACKGROUND Monomorphic epithelial intestinal T-cell lymphoma(MEITL)is a rare type of peripheral T-cell lymphoma.The clinical manifestations are diarrhea,abdominal pain,perforation and an abdominal mass.CASE SUMMARY We present a 52-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with MEITL.Further disease progression was observed after multiline chemotherapy.Eventually,the patient died of a severe infection.CONCLUSION MEITL is a rare intestinal primary T-cell lymphoma with aggressive behavior,a high risk of severe life-threatening complications,and a poor prognosis.
