Aoyitake plagiogranite in western Tarim Block, NW China: Age, geochemistry, petrogenesis and its tectonic implications

SHRIMPP U-Pb zircon age and geochemical and Nd isotopic data are reported for the Aoyitake plagiogranite in western Tarim Block, NW China. The plagiogranite intruded the Middle Pro- terozoic and Lower Carboniferous with an exposure area of ca. 60 km2.and crystallized at 3.0.7±4.8 Ma. Rock types mainly include tonalite, trondhjemite and minor amounts of diorite and quartz-diorite. Feldspars in the rocks are dominated by oligoclase-andesine, and minor perthite observed locally. The granites are sodic with Na/K ratios (molar) between 4.and 87. Total REE (50-2.0 ppm) show a clear positive correlation with SiO2. There is no LRRE/HREE fractionation (LaN/YbN=0.5-1.5), me- dium negative Eu anomalies (δ Eu=0.3.0.6), high Y content and low Sr/Y ratio (~1.0). These granites exhibit relatively juvenile Nd T2.M model ages of 4.0 to 580 Ma and positive εNd(3.1 Ma) values of 6.2. to 7.65. The aforementioned characteristics are similar to those of ocean island or ocean ridge plagiogranites. However, the regional geology, especially its scale, precludes that the plagiogranite pluton was derived directly from fractionational crystallization of mantle-derived basaltic magma. We interpreted that the primary magma of the pluton might be tonalitic in composition generated by ca. 50% partial melting of the juvenile basaltic crust. The primary magma experienced intensive frac- tionational crystallization, and intruded into the middle to upper crusts to form the granite pluton. In combination with the previous regional geological data, it is concluded that the plagiogranite pluton was emplaced within the Tarim Block in respond to the Carboniferous continental rifting along the Tianshan orogenic belt.

An Experimental Study on Three Quaternary Phases in the Fe-Sn-Sb-S System: Pb-Free Franckeite, Pb-Free Cylindrite and (Fe, Sb)-Ottemannite s.s.

Experimental studies on the two solid solutions franckeite s.s. and cylindrite s.s. yielded among others thePb-free endmembers of franckeite and cylindrite respectively. In these endmembers the lead content of the twomineral phases are completely substituted by bivalent tin. A third phase, ottemannite s.s. with （Fe. Sb）-bearingcompositions, was further identified in the Pb-free 4.component system Fe-Sn-Sb-S. Pb-free franckeite andcylindrite could only be synthesized as homogeneous phases at high temperatures. The ottemannite s.s. was ob-tained at 600℃ but an extensive existing range was also confirmed at temperatures below 500℃. The phase relations were discussed in the pseudoternary subsystem SnS-SnS2.FeSb2.4. The following se-quence of Pb-free phases and phase assemblages were observed under increasing Sn4.content at 600℃:herzenhergite （SnS）+franckeite, franckeite, franckeite+cylindrite, cylindrite, cylindrite+（Fe, Sb）-ottemannite.（Fe, Sb）-ottemannite. （Fe. Sb）-ottemannite+berndtite （SnS2.. The assemblage cylindrite+berndtite was identi-fied in synthetic systems involving Pb. The phase Fe. Sb-ottemannite s.s. appears to be stable only under Pb-de-ficient and high sulfur fugacity conditions.

In accordance with the terms global minerogenic series, regional metallogenic series and ore depositsystem which are put forward here, metallogenic environments at different levels are discussed for theporphyry copper deposit series in China. It is considered that the porphyry copper deposits in China arecontrolled not only by the boundaries of convergent plates but, more importantly, by the boundaries ofintraplate divergent mobile belts and those between continental blocks. Besides, the emplacement ofhypabyssal and supper-hypabyssal calc-alkaline magmas and the temporal-spatial distribution of China'sporphyry copper deposits are governed by the superimposition of fracture systems of the pre-Alpine base-ments. Meso-Cenozoic cover and continental-margin new-born crust. Such a superimposition has also re-sulted in the polycyclicity of the {3.ization.

Quartz-Ferberite Oxygen Isotope Geothermometer and Its geological Applications

Experiments for oxygen isotope exchange between ferberite and water were carried out and the followingequation on oxygen isotope fractionation between ferberite and water against temperature was obtained:Combining this equation with the equation of Clayton et al. (1972. on oxygen isotope fractionation be-tween quartz and water, an equation on oxygen isotope fractionation between quartz and ferberite was ob-tained:The Bigeleison-Mayer function method was used to calculate the oxygen isotope fractionation betweenquartz and ferberite. The theoretical curve obtained agrees with the experimental calibration results quite wellin the temperature range of *** above calibrated equation has been used in 5 world famous tungsten deposits to determine their tem-peratures of formation. The results show that the temperature range for an idividual deposit determined by thisgeothermometer agrees with those obtained from fluid inclusion determination and other isotopegeothermometers.

THE Zijinshan-Bitian Cu-Au-Mo orefield is spread to north of the Shanghang County, SW *** geological structure it is located at the plunging end of NE-trending Xuanhe anticlinorium, in the NE rim ofthe NW trending Shanghang volcano-sedimentary basin. Orefield basement is composed of the Archean-Middle Proterozoic low-grade metamorphic rock formations, containing marine basic metavolcanic sequenses. Lower Cretaceous subaerial volcanic rocks of andesite-trachy andesite-rhyolite composition fill inthe volcano-sedimentary basin. Pre-mineralization granitic batholith dated 14.Ma（Rb-Sr）and 157Ma（U-Pb） occupies the axial part of the plunging anticlinorium, which was regarded as crust-remelting typegranitoids. mineralization-affiliated subvolcanic dacite porphyrite, co-volcanic granodiorite and quartzdiorite porphyrite （10{3.{3.Ma（Rb-Sr）, Sr1 = 0.708 9） belong to syntactic type in genesis and

The deposit under study is a hydrothermal filling-metasomatic vein type lead-zinc-silver deposit, in whichgold and silver can be recovered as by-products. These metals mainly occur as microgranular native gold,electrum, stephanite, acanthite, pyraragyrite, freibergite, and native silver. Gold minerals tend to be associatedwith galenobismutite, native bismuth and unnamed Bi_2.e. They are either enclosed in pyrite, marmatite,iron-bearing sphalerite and galens or fill the microfissures of these minerals. Silver minerals usually occur incleavages or fissures of galena, marmatite and pyrite, but are not associated with gold and bismuth minerals.Gold and silver mineralizations occurred later than lead and zinc, while the silver mineralization was precededby that of gold.

Geochemistry of high-Mg andesites from the early Cretaceous Yixian Formation, western Liaoning: Implications for lower crustal delamination and Sr/Y variations

85 volcanic rocks of the Yixian Formation from the Sihetun type section werecollected and analyzed for geochemical and isotopic compositions. Major element compositionsindicate that the Sihetun volcanic rocks are high magnesium andesites with some basalts occurring atthe bottom of section. The Sihetun high magnesium andesites (SiO_2.= 52.82.59.3. wt%, Al_2._3.14.15-16.3.wt%) show many characteristics of adakites such as depletion in heavy rare-earth elements(HREE; Yb = 1.03.1.88 μg/g) and Y(12.2. μg/g) and high Sr (62.-13.0} μg/g) and Sr/Y(3.0}88), withhigh La_N/Yb_N ratio (10-2.). They share similar major and trace element characteristics to volcanicrocks from the Xinglonggou Formation except their lower Nd isotope ratios (^(14.3}Nd/^(14.)Nd(13.Ma) = 0.5118-0.5119, ε_(Nd) (13.Ma) = -11.6-13.8, ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr (13. Ma) = *** were interpreted in a way that eclogite that formed at the base of thickened Archean lowercrust of the North China craton foundered into the convecting mantle and subsequently melted andinteracted with peridotite. However, compared to the Xinglonggou volcanic rocks, the source of theSihetun magma contained more ancient continental crustal material in order to explain its evolved Ndisotopes. The age of the Sihetun Formation was 12. to 13. Ma, and this indicates that delaminationlasted to the early Cretaceous period. The Sr contents and Sr/Y ratios of the Sihetun high-Mgandesites show significant negative correlations with SiO_2.for samples with SiO_2.> 56%. Thesesuggest that the Sr and Sr/Y values were reduced due to fractional crystallization of ***, the effect of crystallization on volcanic Sr and Sr/Y ratio has to be taken intoaccount.

Based on field geological survey, structural measurements and classical Ar/Ar dating of mica, biotite and K-feldspar, we obtain cooling ages for Miocene left-lateral shear along the Xianshuihe fault zone. The results document two thermal events during the sinistral shear. The early event (12.10 Ma) corresponds to rapid cooling of the Zheduoshan granitic massif from above 700℃ to below 3.0℃. The late event (5-3.5 Ma) corresponds to cooling of granites intruded along the eastern side of the fault zone. These dating results provide important thermochronological constraint on the timing of late Cenozoic eastward extrusion of the Chuan-Dian Block in the SE Tibetan margin.

Experimental Study on the Leaching of Gold from Greenstone

Experiments were conducted on the leaching of gold from greenstone by chloride solution under the temperature of 2.0—550℃ and the pressure of 60 MPa. During part of the experiments, the oxygen fugacity was controlled. The results show that the leaching rate of gold is related to temperature, composition of the solution, pH and oxygen fugacity. In the experiment with oxidative acidic solution, the leaching rate was up to 50％ or more. It is known that the leaching of gold is restricted by the reaction in which the gold is dissolved from the rock to form gold chloride complex. Therefore, the authors hold that the acidic chloride solution derived from granite magma has caused the remobilization-migration of gold from greenstone and its enrichment into ore.
