Association between glucose-lowering drugs and circulating insulin antibodies induced by insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes

BACKGROUND Insulin antibodies(IAs)affect blood glucose control in patients receiving insulin *** To investigate the relationship between different hypoglycemic treatments and IAs in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).METHODS This cross-sectional,retrospective study included 1863 patients with T2DM who were receiving exogenous insulin *** patients received stable antidiabetic therapy in the last 3 months and IA levels were measured using an iodine-125 *** A total of 1863 patients were *** were 902(48.4%)patients who had positive IAs(IA level>5%),with a mean IA level of 11.06%(10.39%-11.72%).IA levels were positively correlated with high fasting blood glucose(odds ratio=1.069,P<0.001).The proportion of positive IAs was lowest in patients using glargine only(31.9%)and highest in patients using human insulin only(70.3%),P<*** IA levels in patients using sulfonylureas/glinides(8.3%),metformin(9.6%),and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors(8.2%)were all lower than in patients without these drugs(all P<0.05).CONCLUSION Nearly half of patients on insulin therapy have positive IA antibodies,and IA antibody levels are associated with blood glucose *** glargine and a combination of oral glucose-lowering drugs were correlated with lower IA levels.

Metal-based engineered nanomaterials (MENMs) are increasingly being used in people’s working lives. Although MENMs have important effects on soil ecosystem and play an important role in solving soil environmental problems, the hazards associated with MENMs cannot be ignored. Therefore, more and more scholars have studied the behavior and effects of nanomaterials in soils in recent years. In this review, we explore the articles on MENMs and soil ecosystem retrieved from various databases from 2013 to 2022. We discuss the mechanisms of MENM toxicity, the current state of soil ecosystem, the ecological effects of MENMs on soil microbes, earthworms, and plants, and the ways by which soil organisms take up MENMs. We now know that although MENMs have positive effects on soil ecosystem, their potential hazards are not negligible. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the effects of MENMs on soil organisms. Meanwhile, we should pay more attention to the negative effects of MENMs on soil ecosystem while exploring their positive effects on soil ecosystem in future research.

The forging stage of rail flash welding has a decisive influence on joint strength,and the study of the temperature distribution in the process has an important role in further improving joint *** this paper,three calculation methods for the temperature field are ***,the finite element model of the temperature field before forging rail flash welding is established by using the transient heat module of Ansys software and verified by infrared temperature ***,the temperature distribution of different parts of the rail before flash welding is obtained by using infrared thermal imaging ***,Matlab software is used to calculate the temperature of the non-measured ***,the temperature distribution function along the rail axis is fitted through the temperature measurement *** temperature distribution before the top forging of the rail flash welding can be used to analyze the joint and heat-affected zone organization and properties effectively and to guide the parameter setting and industrial production.

Toppling failure of rock mass/soil slope is an important geological and environmental problem. Clarifying its failure mechanism under different conditions has great significance in engineering. The toppling failure of a cutting slope occurred in a hydropower station in Kyushu, Japan illustrates that the joint characteristic played a significant role in the occurrence of rock slope tipping failure. Thus, in order to consider the mechanical properties of jointed rock mass and the influence of geometric conditions, a simplified analytical approach based on the limit equilibrium method for modeling the flexural toppling of cut rock slopes is proposed to consider the influence of the mechanical properties and geometry condition of jointed rock mass. The theoretical solution is compared with the numerical solution taking Kyushu Hydropower Station in Japan as one case, and it is found that the theoretical solution obtained by the simplified analysis method is consistent with the numerical analytical solution, thus verifying the accuracy of the simplified method. Meanwhile, the Goodman-Bray approach conventionally used in engineering practice is improved according to the analytical results. The results show that the allowable slope angle may be obtained by the improved Goodman-Bray approach considering the joint spacing, the joint frictional angle and the tensile strength of rock mass together.

A peak enhancement of frequency response of waveguide integrated silicon-based germanium avalanche photodetector

Avalanche photodetectors(APDs) featuring an avalanche multiplication region are vital for reaching high sensitivity and responsivity in optical transceivers. Waveguide-coupled Ge-on-Si separate absorption, charge, and multiplication(SACM)APDs are popular due to their straightforward fabrication process, low optical propagation loss, and high detection sensitivity in optical communications. This paper introduces a lateral SACM Ge-on-Si APD on a silicon-on-insulator(SOI) wafer, featuring a 10 μm-long, 0.5 μm-wide Ge layer at 1310 nm on a standard 8-inch silicon photonics platform. The dark current measures approximately 38.6 μA at-21 V, indicating a breakdown voltage greater than-21 V for the device. The APDs exhibit a unitgain responsivity of 0.5 A/W at-10 V. At-15 V, their responsivity reaches 2.98 and 2.91 A/W with input powers of-10 and-25 dBm, respectively. The device's 3-dB bandwidth is 15 GHz with an input power of-15 dBm and a gain is 11.68. Experimental results show a peak in impedance at high bias voltages, attributed to inductor and capacitor(LC) circuit resonance, enhancing frequency response. Furthermore, 20 Gbps eye diagrams at-21 V and-9 dBm input power reveal signal to noise ratio(SNRs) of 5.30. This lateral SACM APD, compatible with the stand complementary metal oxide semiconductor(CMOS) process,shows that utilizing the peaking effect at low optical power increases bandwidth.
