Microbiome and metabolome dysbiosis analysis in impaired glucose tolerance for the prediction of progression to diabetes mellitus

Gut microbiota and circulating metabolite dysbiosis predate important pathological changes in glucose metabolic disorders;however,comprehensive studies on impaired glucose tolerance(IGT),a diabetes mellitus(DM)precursor,are ***,we perform metagenomic sequencing and metabolomics on 47 pairs of individuals with IGT and newly diagnosed DM and 46 controls with normal glucose tolerance(NGT);patients with IGT are followed up after 4 years for progression to *** of baseline data reveals significant differences in gut microbiota and serum metabolites among the IGT,DM,and NGT *** addition,13 types of gut microbiota and 17 types of circulating metabolites showed significant differences at baseline before IGT progressed to DM,including higher levels of Eggerthella unclassified,Coprobacillus unclassified,Clostridium ramosum,L-valine,L-norleucine,and L-isoleucine,and lower levels of Eubacterium eligens,Bacteroides faecis,Lachnospiraceae bacterium 3_1_46FAA,Alistipes senegalensis,Megaspaera elsdenii,Clostridium perfringens,α-linolenic acid,10E,12Z-octadecadienoic acid,and dodecanoic acid.A random forest model based on differential intestinal microbiota and circulating metabolites can predict the progression from IGT to DM(AUC=0.87).These results suggest that microbiome and metabolome dysbiosis occur in individuals with IGT and have important predictive values and potential for intervention in preventing IGT from progressing to DM.

Contemporary Values of Confucianism and the Effectiveness of Internal Control in Corporate Management:Compatibility between Management Culture and Systems in Chinese Enterprises

Based on data from China’s A-share listed companies from 2008 to 2017,this paper examines the influence of the contemporary values of Confucianism,namely benevolence,righteousness,propriety,wisdom,and fidelity on the effectiveness of internal *** indicates a significant positive correlation between the contemporary values of Confucianism and the effectiveness of internal ***,this positive influence is noticeable in family-owned businesses but is unobserved in foreign-invested enterprises in *** addition,the contemporary values of Confucianism enhance internal control quality through two pathways:promotion incentives and corporate *** regions with lower degrees of openness,lower levels of rule of law and slower marketization,or in companies facing operational crises,the contemporary values of Confucianism have a more pronounced effect on enhancing the effectiveness of internal *** contemporary values of Confucianism have strengthened the ability of internal control to decrease agency costs and mitigate the negative influence of internal control on risk-taking.

Ti-based catalysts are known to improve the hydrogen storage performance of NaAlH4by facilitating the dissociation/recombination of H-H and Al-H *** catalytic activity of metallic Ti species strongly depends on its particle size and *** clusters and even single atoms are therefore highly desirable,but their controllable fabrication has been highly *** rein,we demonstrate a novel facile sonochemical synthesis of a Ti-O clusters featuring single Ti atom catalyst at room *** reducing TiCl_(4)by MgBu_(2)with ultrasound instead of heating as driving force,numerous single Ti atoms coupled with Ti-O clusters with Ti loading on graphene(Ti_(1)/Ti-O@G)up to 22.6 wt%have been successfully *** prepared Ti_(1)/Ti-O@G contributes high reactivity and superior catalytic activity,therefore enabling full dehydrogenation of NaAlH_(4)at 80℃in thermogravimetric mode and re-hydrogenation at 30℃and 10 MPa with 4.9 wt% H_(2).This fact indicates for the first time that single Ti atom catalyst with high loading is highly effective in catalyzing hydrogen cycling of NaAlH4at remarkably reduced temperatures.

Common Cuckoo(Cuculus canorus) nestlings adapt their begging behavior to the host signal system

Common Cuckoos(Cuculus canorus) dependent on parental care for post-hatching demonstrate an intriguing ability to modify their begging vocalizations to ensure maximum care and resources from their interspecific foster parents. Here, we compared begging calls of the Common Cuckoo nestlings fed by four host species, the Grey Bushchat(Saxicola ferreus), Siberian Stonechat(Saxicola maurus), Daurian Redstart(Phoenicurus auroreus),and Oriental Magpie-robin(Copsychus saularis). Results showed that begging calls of the stonechat–, redstart–,and robin–cuckoo resemble those of host species' nestlings in various aspects like low frequency, high frequency,frequency bandwidth and peak frequency, while the bushchat–cuckoo chicks' begging calls were only comparable to their host species in terms of how long they lasted and their peak frequency. In addition, cuckoo nestlings raised in different host nests displayed significant variations in their begging calls in low and peak *** study suggests that cuckoo nestlings do not mimic host species nestlings' begging calls throughout the nestling period, but may tune their begging calls according to host species, while begging calls vary with cuckoo and host species nestlings' ages. Future research should study the parents' reactions to these calls in different host species for a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying such adaptations.

AIM:To assess the clinical presentations and outcomes of idiopathic orbital inflammatory pseudotumor(IOIP)patients with orbital wall bone destruction(OWBD)and to propose an expanded classification system that includes bone ***:The study retrospectively reviewed clinical presentations,imaging findings,treatment modalities,and outcomes of six patients diagnosed histopathologically with IOIP and OWBD at the Beijing Tongren Hospital,Capital Medical University between October 2018 and June ***:Over two years,6(10%)of 60 IOIP patients at our hospital exhibited OWBD,but this may overrepresent severe *** cohort consisted of three men and three women,aged 17 to 60y(mean 35.5±16.1y).Presenting symptoms included proptosis,eyelid swelling,decreased visual acuity with pain,and palpable *** revealed multiple anatomical structures involved with the medial wall being the most common site of bone *** examination showed classic type in five patients and sclerosing type in one *** patients underwent surgical resection followed by methylprednisolone ***-up(mean 30.3±3.1mo)indicated three patients had no recurrence,while others had varying degrees of symptom persistence or ***:IOIP with bone destruction is a rare but significant subtype that mimics malignancy,leading to potential diagnostic and therapeutic *** findings suggest that complete surgical resection combined with adjunctive glucocorticoid therapy can yield favorable ***,larger-scale studies are needed to further optimize therapeutic approaches.
