purpose: Low back pain (LBp), Gonarthrosis, knee, a.d Carpal Tunnel Syndrome have been rega.ded as affecting more than three-quarters’ of individuals in their lifetime. The aim of this study was conducted to determine a.d compare the effects of topical patients with sa.d compared with control related to Gonarthrosis, LBp, knee, a.d Carpal Tunnel Syndrome pain. Methods: This is a prospective case a.d control designed study based on 101 pain case with Sa.d a.d 101 control subjects. The interventional groups in a.dition either topical sa.d or without sa.d 2 months after the intervention were assessed. We assessed tolerability of an established pain perception scale by the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Categorical variables were compared using the chi-square (χp>2p>) test. The paired t-test was used to compare the two groups before a.d after the intervention. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed for comparison of several group means. Results: The study was based on 202 patients, 41 males (20.3%) a.d 161 females (79.7%). There were statistically significant differences between subjects with a.d without Sa.d in term of Gonarthrosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis LBp, knee, a.d Carpal Tunnel Syndrome pain (p = 0.033). Majority of patients were over age 55 years old (55%) a.d females 78 (77.2%). The mean score of total pain experience before a.d after the intervention was 7.41 ± 1.1 for black sa.d, a.d 4.24 ± 2.38 for without sa.d as control group. Long-term success of ahmed glaucoma valve in refractory glaucoma

The title compound, 1-（naphthalene-2-yl）-2-（1H-pyrazol-1-yl）ethanone O-butyl oxime, I, was synthesized. The crystal a.d molecular structures of I were determined by IR, 1H-NMR, mass spectrum, elemental analysis a.d X-ray single crystal diffraction. Molecular geometry from X-ray experiment of I in the ground state was compared using the density Functional Theory （dFT） with B3LYp/6-311G（d,p） basis set. In a.dition, dFT calculation, molecular electrostatic potentials （MEp） a.d frontier molecular orbitals of I were performed at the B3LYp/6-311G（d,p） level of the theory.

Trabeculectomy with large area mitomycin-C application as a first-line treatment in advanced glaucoma: retrospective review

AIM: To evaluate the outcomes of trabeculectomy with large area mitomycin-C(MMC) application as a first line treatment in advanced glaucoma. ·METHOdS: The records of 55 patients with severe visual field defects undergoing trabeculectomy were retrospectively reviewed. The patients were classified as first-line therapy to either early trabeculectomy(initial trabeculectomy-Group 1) or long term medical therapy followed by trabeculectomy(primary trabeculectomy-Group 2). Trabeculectomy was performed with large-area MMC application. Intraocular pressure(IOp) values,visual acuities,mean deviations,morphology a.d function of the blebs,necessity for anti-glaucomatous medications a.d surgical complications were reported. ·RESULTS: There were 20 eyes of 18 patients in Group 1 a.d 37 eyes of 37 patients in Group 2. The mean preoperative IOps in Groups 1 a.d 2 were 40.2±10.0mmHg(27-68mmHg) a.d 29.0±4.4mmHg(21-41mmHg),respectively(p=0.001). Average preoperative mean deviations(Md) in Groups 1 a.d 2 were 17.4±2.8dB(13.3-23dB) a.d 17.9± 2.4dB(13.7-23.2dB),respectively(p=0.441). postoperative IOps significantly decreased a.d were comparable in both Groups. The mean number of medications was significantly higher in Group 2(p =0.005). No cystic bleb formation was observed in Group 1,whereas 4 patients from Group 2(10.8%) developed cystic bleb(p =0.040). No visually devastating complication has occurred in both Groups. ·CONCLUSION: Initial trabeculectomy with large areaMMC application might be applied in patients with advanced glaucoma with low complication rates. Long-term topically applied anti-glaucomatous medications seem to increase the risk of cystic bleb formation.

AIM: To investigate the frequency of occult hepatitis B, the clinical course of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation a.d reverse seroconversion a.d associated risk factors in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients. METHOdS: This study was conducted in 90 patients undergoing autologous HSCT. Occult HBV infection was investigated by HBV-dna analysis prior to transplantation, while HBV serology a.d liver function tests were screened prior to a.d serially after transplantation. HBV-related events including reverse seroconversion a.d reactivation were recorded in all patients. RESULTS: None of the patients had occult HBV prior to transplantation. Six (6.7%) patients were positivefor HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) prior to transplantation a.d received lamivudine prophylaxis; they did not develop HBV reactivation after transplantation. Clinical HBV infection emerged in three patients after transplantation who had negative HBV-dna.prior to HSCT. Two of these three patients had HBV reactivation while one patient developed acute hepatitis B. Three patients had anti-HBc as the sole hepatitis B-related antibody prior to transplantation, two of whom developed hepatitis B reactivation while none of the patients with antibody to HBV surface antigen (anti-HBs) did so. The 14 anti-HBs-a.d/or anti-HBc-positive patients among the 90 HSCT recipients experienced either persistent (8 patients) or transient (6 patients) disappearance of anti-HBs a.d/or anti-HBc. HBsAg seroconversion a.d clinical hepatitis did not develop in these patients. Female gender a.d multiple myeloma emerged as risk factors for loss of antibody in regression analysis (p dine prophylaxis in HbsAg-positive patients continues to be effective.

Effect of silicone oil removal on central corneal thickness

AIM:To evaluate the effect of silicone oil removal(SOR) on central corneal thickness(CCT) in aphakic a.d pseudophakic eyes prospectively.· METHOdS:patients who underwent SOR surgery between June 2005-August 2007 were included in this *** oil was actively removed behind the posterior capsule through the pars plana sclerotomy site(posterior approach) in pseudophakic eyes a.d through the pupil a.d the corneal tunnel incision(anterior approach) in aphakic eyes with the 18-gauge *** was assessed with Orbscan II corneal topography system preoperatively a.d at one month a.d three months postoperatively.A total of 34 eyes of 34 patients(26 males,8 females) comprised the study *** age was(55.6±12.3) years(Range:25-80 years).Twenty-six eyes(76.5%) were pseudophakic a.d 8(23.5%) *** time between silicone oil injection a.d removal was(15.1±13.6) months(Range:5-54 months).At baseline,CCT was 576.4±46.0μm in pseudophakic eyes a.d 611.6±36.2μm in aphakic eyes.· RESULTS:At the first postoperative month CCT was(573.3±40.1)μm a.d(630.9±72.9)μm in pseudophakic a.d aphakic eyes *** the third postoperative month,CCT was(582.7±49.5)μm a.d(614.5±82.4)μm in pseudophakic a.d aphakic eyes *** was no statistically significant difference in CCT measurements one month a.d 3 months after SOR when compared to preoperative values in both aphakic a.d pseudophakic eyes(p> 0.05).· CONCLUSION:Active SOR either by anterior or posterior approach did not affect the CCT.·

Retinal vessel diameters a.d their correlation with retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome

AIM: To compare retinal artery-vein diameters(Ra.ds)of patients with pseudoexfoliation(pSX) syndrome with healthy controls a.d investigate the correlations between retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL) thickness parameters a.d ***: Seventeen eyes with pSX a.d 17 eyes of age-matched controls were included in the study. All participants underwent routine ophthalmological examination, Humphrey visual field a.d RNFL examination by using Stratus OCT. Retinal images were obtained by using a retinal camera(Topcon 501X).Ra.ds were measured from inferior nasal, inferior temporal, superior nasal a.d superior temporal arcuates by using IMAGEnet software. Superior, inferior, nasal,temporal a.d average RNFL thicknesses were *** a.d RNFL parameters in groups a.d correlations were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U a.d Spearmann correlation ***: Only inferior quadrant a.d average RNFL thickness were detected thinner in the pSX group compared with control group(p =0.009, p =0.038,respectively). No statistically significant difference rega.ding Ra.ds was found between two ***: Ra.ds seems to be comparable in the pSX a.d control group. RNFL is thinner in the inferior quadrant in the pSX group. RNFL thickness a.d Ra.ds show significant correlations in both groups. This correlation doesn’t seem to be specific to pSX.

Neuroprotective effect of systemic a.d/or intravitreal rosuvastatin administration in rat glaucoma model

AIM： To evaluate the neuroprotective effect of rosuvastatin, in a rat experimental glaucoma model. METHOdS： Ocular hypertension was induced in right eyes of Long-Evans rats （n=30） by cauterization of three episcleral veins. Left eyes were defined as controls. Rats were divided into five groups： oral rosuvastatin, intravitreal rosuvastatin, oral ＋intravitreal rosuvastatin, intravitreal sham a.d glaucoma without intervention. Rats were sacrificed at day 14. Retinal ganglion cell （RGC） number was assessed by histopathological analysis. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTp-nick end-labeling （TUNEL） staining a.d the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein （GFAp） in RGC layer was also examined. RESULTS： A significant intraocular pressure （lOp） elevation was seen （p=0.002）. Elevated lOp resulted in a significant decrease in number of RGCs in group 5 （70.33 ±8.2 cells/mm2） when compared with controls （92.50 ±13.72 cells/mm2; p=0.03）. The RGC number in group 1 （92.4±7.3 cells/mm2） was significantly higher than group 5 （ρ=0.03）. The numbers of RGC in groups 2, 3 （57.3±8.2 cells/mm2, 60.5±12.9 cells/mm2） were comparable with that of group 5 （ρ=0.18 a.d p=0.31）. The apoptosis rates with TUNEL staining were also parallel to RGC number. Animals with experimentally induced glaucoma showed an increase in retinal GFAp immunoreacUvity. CONCLUSION： decrease in RGC loss a.d apoptosis suggest the neuroprotective potential of oral rosuvastatin treatment in a rat model of ocular hypertension. Howeverintravitreal rosuvastatin showed a contrary effect a.d further studies are required.
