Mechanical properties of thixo-formed austempered ductile iron

Semi-solid processing of metallic materials has been investigated for some time;however,this innovative production process has not fully established for ferrous alloys like ductile cast iron in the industry *** alloys-specially ductile cast ironbecause of increasing complexity due to high temperature processing and some other limitations have been allocated a small share of this useful forming process to ***,this work describes that thixo-forming of ductile iron despite all of the limitations is possible even for thin sections(less than 1 mm).Die temperature and injection velocity are the most effective parameters to thixo-forming particularly for high melting point materials such as ductile cast *** behavior,shape factor of graphites and fluidity of thixo-formed specimens were *** addition,defects as well as shrinkage and cold laps were examined to achieve sound *** to successful thixo-forming,two step austempering was performed to accomplish a uniform structure with minimum untransformed austenite volume(UAV).Following austempering,tensile test was carried out and the results show good combination of tensile strength and elongation for treated specimens(1 137 MPa strength and 12% elongation in best situation).

Evaluation of the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete structures with flat slab-column gravity frame and shear walls through nonlinear analysis methods

This paper presents an investigation of the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete(RC)structures in which shear walls are the main lateral load-resisting elements and the participation of flat slab floor systems is not considered in the seismic design *** this regard,the behavior of six prototype structures(with different heights and plan layouts)is investigated through nonlinear static and time history analyses,implemented in the OpenSees *** results of the analyses are presented in terms of the behavior of the slab-column connections and their mode of failure at different loading ***,the global response of the buildings is discussed in terms of some parameters,such as lateral overstrength due to the gravity flat slab-column *** to the nonlinear static analyses,in structures in which the slab-column connections were designed only for gravity loads,the slab-column connections exhibited a punching mode of failure even in the early stages of ***,the punching failure was eliminated in structures in which a minimum transverse reinforcement recommended in ACI 318(2019)was provided in the slabs at joint ***,despite neglecting the contribution of gravity flat slab-column frames in the lateral load resistance of the structures,a relatively significant overstrength was imposed on the structures by the gravity frames.

The significance of gas compressibility factor in petroleum engineering encourages the researchers to employ the most accurate and precise methods for estimation of this ***,empirical correlations due to their simplicity have been referred more than other approaches for prediction of *** is no clear and reliable report to address an appropriate combination of correlation and mixing rule for each type of *** the present study,combination of several empirical correlations and mixing rules is examined and a decision tree is constructed to suggest best combination for each gas *** this reason,2329 experimental data were used for *** to the results,LelandeMueller mixing rule/Sanjari and Lay correlation is the best combination for sour and natural ***,Van NesseAbbot mixing rule/HalleYarborough correlation,StewarteBurkhardteVoo mixing rule/heidarian correlation and SattereCampbell mixing rule/Papay correlation are the most appropriate combination for gas condensate,binary and ternary mixtures *** binary mixtures,a robust and novel empirical correlation was developed based on Kay mixing rule to estimate *** results employed how good the new correlation is in agreement with the experimental data with significant R-squared 0.9843.

Ultra-dense planar metallic nanowire arrays with extremely large anisotropic optical and magnetic properties

A nanofabrication method for the production of ultra-dense planar metallic nanowire arrays scalable to wafer-size is presented. The method is based on an efficient template deposition process to grow diverse metallic nanowire arrays with extreme regularity in only two steps. First, Ⅲ-Ⅴ semiconductor substrates are irradiated by a low-energy ion beam at an elevated temperature, forming a highly ordered nanogroove pattern by a ＂reverse epitaxy＂ process due to self-assembly of surface vacancies. Second, diverse metallic nanowire arrays （Au, Fe, Ni, Co, FeAl alloy） are fabricated on these Ⅲ-Ⅴ templates by deposition at a glancing incidence angle. This method allows for the fabrication of metallic nanowire arrays with periodicities down to 45 nm scaled up to wafer-size fabrication. As typical noble and magnetic metals, the Au and Fe nanowire arrays produced here exhibited large anisotropic optical and magnetic properties, respectively. The excitation of localized surface plasmon resonances （LSPRs） of the Au nanowire arrays resulted in a high electric field enhancement, which was used to detect phthalocyanine （CoPc） in surface-enhanced Raman scattering （SERS）. Furthermore, the Fe nanowire arrays showed a very high in-plane magnetic anisotropy of approximately 412 mT, which may be the largest in-plane magnetic anisotropy field yet reported that is solely induced via shape anisotropy within the plane of a thin film.
