Critical Exponents for the Re-entrant Phase Transitions in the Three-Dimensional Blume-Emery-Grifilths Model on the Cellular Automaton

The critical behaviour of the three-dimensional Blume-Emery-Griffiths （BEG） model ＆ investigated at D/ J = O, -0.25 and -1 in the range of-1 ≤ K/J ≤ 0 for J -- 100. The simulations are carried out on a simple cubic lattice using the heating algorithm improved from the Creutz cellular automaton （CCA ） under periodic boundary conditions. The universality of the model are obtained for re-entrant and double re-entrant phase transitions which occur at certain D/J and K/J parameters, with J and K representing the nearest-neighbour bilinear and biquadratic interactions, and D being the single-ion anisotropy parameter. The values of static critical exponents β, γ and v are estimated within the framework of the finite-size scaling theory. The results are compatible with the universal Ising critical behaviour for all continuous phase transitions in these ranges.

The first-order phase transition of the three-dimensional Blume-Capel model is investigated using the cooling algorithm which is improved from Creutz Cellular Automaton at D/J = 2.9, i.e. a ratio of single-ion anisotropy constant to bilinear interaction energy. We test the efficiency of the algorithm and obtain the finite-size effects at the first-order phase transition point. The transition temperature is estimated using the probability distributions of the order parameter and the energy. The analysis of data at the transition point indicates that the magnetic susceptibility and the specific heat maxima increase with the system value （L^d）.

AIM:To investigate the P wave dispersion as a non-invasive marker of intra-atrial conduction disturbances in patients with Wilson's disease. METHODS:We compared Wilson's disease patients (n = 18) with age matched healthy subjects (n = 15) as controls. The diagnosis was based on clinical symptoms, laboratory tests (ceruloplasmin, urinary and hepatic copper concentrations). P wave dispersion, a measurement of the heterogeneity of atrial depolarization, was measured as the difference between the duration of the longest and the shortest P-waves in 12 lead electrocardiography. RESULTS:All the patients were asymptomatic on cardiological examination and have sinusal rhythm in electrocardiography. Left ventricular and left atrial diameters, left ventricular ejection fraction and left ventricular mass index were similar in both groups. The Wilson's disease patients had a significantly higher P wave dispersion compared with the controls (44.7 ± 5.8 vs 25.7 ± 2.5, P nCLUSIOn:There was an increase in P wave dispersion in cardiologically asymptomatic Wilson's disease patients which probably represents an early stage of cardiac involvement.

Aims: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder which affects whole systems of human body. This study aimed to compare the strength of foot muscles, dynamic balance, and peak plantar pressure between diabetic patients before developing polyneuropathy and healthy peers. Methods: 21 people, 11 diabetic patients and 10 age-matched healthy peers, were included in the study. A manual muscle tester (model 01163 Lafayette) was used to assess muscle strength. Pedobarography was the device to determine the distribution of plantar pressure into nine regions of foot. Dynamic balance was also measured by using a mobile platform (Techno-body, PK 200 WL, Italy). Results: Diabetic and control groups had similar muscle strength and dynamic balance (p > 0.05). Most of the plantar pressure findings were also similar (p > 0.05). There were significant differences in only two regions of foot between two groups (p nclusion: Diabetes Mellitus is not a factor influencing balance and muscle strength before polyneuropathy. However, it is possible to state that it may negatively affect the distribution of plantar pressure so clinians should assess and treat this distribution in the patients with DM.

Aim: To compare the effects of group exercises under physiotherapist control and basketball program on the quality of life of obese children. Methods: 45 obese children aged 10 years were randomly included to the physiotherapy (n=14), basketball (n:15), and control group (n:16). The children were assessed before and after 12-week study duration. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) was used to determine and compare their quality of life (QoL). Results: no difference was found when the subheadings of the PedsQL were compared among the groups (p>0.05). When the changes were investigated within the groups, only significant increase was determined in the physical and emotional subheadings of the physiotherapy group (pConclusion: Although no change was determined in the quality of life, physiotherapy group exercise was found to be more successful to affect physical and emotional status of obese children.

Risk Factors Associated with Anthracycline Induced Cardiac Dysfunction in Pediatric Patients

Anthracyclines (i.e., doxorubicin, daunorubicin) have significant impact on outcome in many pediatric chemotherapy protocols and therefore remain the mainstay of treatment. The objective of this study was to identify the risk factors for anthracycline induced cardiac dysfunction in pediatric patients. Multiple logistic regression model was applied to assess the risk factors for development of cardiac dysfunction. 110 pediatric oncology patients were available for final analysis. 75 (66%) children were males and mean age was 74 ± 44 months. ALL (n = 70, 64%) was the most common primary diagnosis followed by lymphoma (n = 19;17%) and AML (n = 12, 11%). Daunorubicin alone or in combination with doxorubicin was used in (n = 94, 85%) patients and cumulative dose n = 95;86%) children. 24 (22%) children received radiation therapy as per protocol and sepsis were observed in 47 (43%) cases. Post anthracycline, 15 (14%) children had cardiac dysfunction within a month;out of them 10/15 (67%) had isolated diastolic dysfunction, while 28 (25%) developed dysfunction within a year. 19 (17%) had pericardial effusion. 11 expired and out of them, 7 had significant cardiac dysfunction. Cumulative dose > 300 mg/m2 (p p = 0.009;AOR 3.5) and sepsis (p = 0.002;AOR 2.6) were found to be independent risk factors associated anthracycline induced cardiac dysfunction. At univariant level use of daunorubicin alone or in combination therapy (p p 0.048, OR 9.7) were also found statistically significant. In conclusion anthracycline induced cardiac dysfunction is mostly related to cumulative dose > 300 mg/m2, use of Daunorubicin alone or in combination with doxorubicin, mode of delivery, radiation therapy and sepsis. Regular long term follow-up with cardiologist is the key point for early diagnosis and therapy for a long term survival.

To investigate the relationship between serum high sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) levels and biochemical and clinical parameters in preeclampsia (PE). Study design: This cross-sectional study included 20 women with PE and 20 healthy pregnant women. They were recruited in the third trimester of pregnancy at the Firat University, Firat Medical Center, Department of Obstetric and Gynaecology in Elazig province. The standard biochemical and hematological parameters were measured by an advanced auto analyzer. Venous blood samples were collected at admission to the hospital at least 6 h before delivery for measurement of hsCRP by a high sensitive immunonephelometric method. Results: Hemoglobin, serum hsCRP, creatinine, aspartat and alanine transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, blood urea nitrogen and urine protein excretion were higher, and serum calcium levels were lower in patients with PE compared to control group values. In the preeclampsia group, correlation analysis tests showed a strong positive correlation between serum hsCRP levels and diastolic blood pressures (r = 0.9, p = 0.05, n = 20) and urinary protein excretion (r = 0.8, p = 0.05, n = 20), and a negative correlation between serum hsCRP and weight (r = - 0.6, p = 0.02, n = 20) and length (r = - 0.5, p = 0.05, n = 20) of the newborns. Serum hsCRP levels were also negatively correlated with weights (r = 0.5, p = 0.02, n = 20) and lengths (r = 0.5, p = 0.05, n = 20) of the newborns in the control group. Conclusions: Serum hsCRP levels increase in women with PE. Elevated serum levels of hsCRP in preeclamptic women are correlated with clinical and biochemical parameters of PE. Determination of serum hsCRP levels may be used as a marker for the severity of PE.
