Drought variability and its connection with large-scale atmospheric circulations in Haihe River Basin

Drought is one of the most widespread and devastating extreme climate events when water availability is significantly below normal levels for a long period.In recent years,the Haihe River Basin has been threatened by intensified droughts.Therefore,characterization of droughts in the basin is of great importance for sustainable water resources management.In this study,two multi-scalar drought indices,the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index(SPEI)with potential evapotranspiration calculated by the PenmaneMonteith equation and the standardized precipitation index(SPI),were used to evaluate the spatiotemporal variations of drought characteristics from 1961 to 2017 in the Haihe River Basin.In addition,the large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns were used to further explore the potential links between drought trends and climatic anomalies.An increasing tendency in drought duration was detected over the Haihe River Basin with frequent drought events occurring in the period from 1997 to 2003.The results derived from both SPEI and SPI demonstrated that summer droughts were significantly intensified.The analysis of large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns indicated that the intensified summer droughts could be attributed to the positive geopotential height anomalies in Asian mid-high latitudes and the insufficient water vapor fluxes transported from the south.©2021 Hohai University.Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V.This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(http://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

Remote sensing of air pollution incorporating integrated-path differential-absorption and coherent-Doppler lidar

An innovative complex lidar system deployed on an airborne rotorcraft platform for remote sensing of atmospheric pollution is proposed and demonstrated.The system incorporates integrated-path differential absorption lidar(DIAL) and coherent-doppler lidar(CDL) techniques using a dual tunable TEA CO_(2)laser in the 9—11 μm band and a 1.55 μm fiber laser.By combining the principles of differential absorption detection and pulsed coherent detection,the system enables agile and remote sensing of atmospheric pollution.Extensive static tests validate the system’s real-time detection capabilities,including the measurement of concentration-path-length product(CL),front distance,and path wind speed of air pollution plumes over long distances exceeding 4 km.Flight experiments is conducted with the helicopter.Scanning of the pollutant concentration and the wind field is carried out in an approximately 1 km slant range over scanning angle ranges from 45°to 65°,with a radial resolution of 30 m and10 s.The test results demonstrate the system’s ability to spatially map atmospheric pollution plumes and predict their motion and dispersion patterns,thereby ensuring the protection of public safety.

Photodegradation of xylene isomers:Kinetics,mechanism,secondary pollutant formation potential and health risk evaluation

Photodegradation technology has been widely applied in the purification of industrial aromatic hydrocarbons.However,whether this technology efficiently removes the pollutants to prevent secondary pollution and health risk is still unclear.Here,the photodegradation processes of three xylenes were compared under designed reaction atmospheres and light sources.Xe lamp showed poor photodegradation ability toward xylenes,no matter in N_(2) or N_(2)+O_(2)system,while much higher photodegradation performance of xylenes were obtained under ultraviolet(UV)and vacuum ultraviolet(VUV)irradiation,especially in N_(2)+O_(2)+VUV system,where 97.9%of m-xylene,99.0%of o-xylene or 87.5%of p-xylene with the initial concentration of 860 mg/m^(3) was removed within 240 min.The xylenes underwent three processes of photo-isomerization,photodecomposition and photo-oxidation to produce intermediates of aromatics,alkanes and carbonyls.Among them,the photo-isomerization products showed the highest concentration percentage(e.g.,≥50%in o-xylene system),confirming that photo-isomerization reaction was the dominated photodegradation process of xylenes.Moreover,these isomerized products not only contributed about 97%and91%to the formation potential of O3(OFP)and secondary organic aerosols(SOAFP),but also displayed obvious non-carcinogenic risk,although one of photodecomposition product—benzene showed the highest occupational exposure risk.Therefore,the secondary pollution and health risks of photodegradation products of xylenes were non-ignorable,although the OFP,SOAFP and health risks of the generated products reduced at least 4.5 times in comparison with that of the degraded xylenes.The findings are helpful for the appropriate application of this technology in the purification of industrial organic waste gas.

The water pollution derived from the discharge of heavy metals,antibiotics,dyes and surfactants wastewater,etc.has seriously affected human survival and ecological security.As an efficient and low-cost physical wastewater treatment process,the adsorption is a continuous hot spot in related scientific research and applications.Geopolymers are non-crystal or semi-crystalline materials with high-efficiency adsorption performance due to the alkali metal ions that balance the electronegative aluminosilicate skeleton can be efficiently replaced by other cations in the aqueous environment.The related studies of different application conditions,service objects and morphological differences of geopolymer adsorbents based on structure-function design have been in-depth exploration and investigation.This review aims to summarize the research progres s of the structure-function design based on the geopolymerization mechanism and kinetics and service requirements.An overview of service characteristics and progress of geopolymers in the wastewater treatment field(e.g.,dyes,heavy metals,radionuclides,surfactants,antibiotics,ammonium,phosphorus,nitrogen and CO_(2),etc.)are systematically discussed.And the evolution and development of morphological differences and the relationship of structure-function design of geopolymer adsorbents were compared and reviewed.Finally,the challenge worth overcoming,the trends worth considering and perspectives worth developing are highlighted.

Endovascular treatment of ruptured lobulated anterior communicating artery aneurysms:A retrospective study of 24 patients

BACKGROUND Lobulated intracranial aneurysm is a special type of aneurysm with at least one additional cyst in the neck or body of the aneurysm.Lobulated intracranial aneurysm is a complex aneurysm with complex morphology and structure and weak tumor wall,which is an independent risk factor for rupture and hemorrhage.Lobular aneurysms located in the anterior communicating artery complex account for 36.9%of all intracranial lobular aneurysms.Due to its special anatomical structure,both craniotomy and endovascular treatment are more difficult.Compared with single-capsule aneurysms,craniotomy for lobular intracranial aneurysms has a higher risk and complication rate.AIM To investigate the efficacy and safety of endovascular treatment for ruptured lobulated anterior communicating artery aneurysm(ACoAA).METHODS Patients with ruptured lobulated ACoAA received endovascular treatment in Sanming First Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University from June 2020 to June 2022 were retrospectively included.Their demographic,clinical and imaging characteristics,endovascular treatment methods and follow-up results were collected.RESULTS A total of 24 patients with ruptured lobulated ACoAA were included,including 9 males(37.5%)and 15 females(62.5%).Their age was 56.2±8.9 years old(range 39-74).The time from rupture to endovascular treatment was 10.9±12.5 h.The maximum diameter of the aneurysms was 5.1±1.0 mm and neck width were 3.0±0.7 mm.Nineteen patients(79.2%)were double-lobed and 5(20.8%)were multilobed.Fisher's grade:Grade 2 in 16 cases(66.7%),grade 3 in 6 cases(25%),and grade 4 in 2 cases(8.3%).Hunt-Hess grade:Grade 0-2 in 5 cases(20.8%),grade 3-5 in 19 cases(79.2%).Glasgow Coma Scale score:9-12 in 14 cases(58.3%),13-15 in 10 cases(41.7%).Immediately postprocedural Raymond-Roy grade:grade 1 in 23 cases(95.8%),grade 2 in 1 case(4.2%).Raymond-Roy grade in imaging follow-up for 2 wk to 3 months:grade 1 in 23 cases(95.8%),grade 2 in 1 case(4.2%).Followup for 2 to 12 months showed that 21 patients(87.5%)had good functional o

The effect of bladder function on the efficacy of transurethral prostatectomy in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia:a retrospective,single-center study

We investigated the impact and predictive value of bladder function in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)on the efficacy of transurethral prostatectomy.Symptomatic,imaging,and urodynamic data of patients who underwent transurethral prostatectomy at West China Hospital of Sichuan University(chengdu,China)from July 2019 to December 2021 were collected.Follow-up data included the quality of life(QoL),International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS),and IPSS storage and voiding(IPSS-s and IPSS-v).Moreover,urinary creatinine(Cr),nerve growth factor(NGF),brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),and prostaglandin estradiol(PGE2)were measured in 30 patients with BPH and 30 healthy participants.Perioperative indicators were determined by subgroup analyses and receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis.Among the 313 patients with BPH included,patients with severe micturition problems had more improvements but higher micturition grades postoperatively than those with moderate symptoms.Similarly,good bladder sensation,compliance,and detrusor contractility(Dc)were predictors of low postoperative IPSS and QoL.The urinary concentrations of BDNF/Cr,NGF/Cr,and PGE2/Cr in patients were significantly higher than those in healthy participants(all P

TOPK Inhibition Enhances the Sensitivity of Colorectal Cancer Cells to Radiotherapy by Reducing the DNA Damage Response

Objective Abnormal expression of T-lymphokine-activated killer cell-originated protein kinase(TOPK)was reported to be closely related to the resistance of prostate cancer to radiotherapy and to targeted drug resistance in lung cancer.However,the role of TOPK inhibition in enhancing radiosensitivity of colorectal cancer(CRC)cells is unclear.This study aimed to evaluate the radiosensitization of TOPK knockdown in CRC cells.Methods The expression of TOPK was detected in CRC tissues by immunohistochemistry,and the effect of TOPK knockdown was detected in CRC cells by Western blotting.CCK-8 and clonogenic assays were used to detect the growth and clonogenic ability of CRC cells after TOPK knockdown combined with radiotherapy in CRC cells.Furthermore,proteomic analysis showed that the phosphorylation of TOPK downstream proteins changed after radiotherapy.DNA damage was detected by the comet assay.Changes in the DNA damage response signaling pathway were analyzed by Western blotting,and apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry.Results The expression of TOPK was significantly greater in CRC tissues at grades 2–4 than in those at grade 1.After irradiation,CRC cells with genetically silenced TOPK had shorter comet tails and reduced expression levels of DNA damage response-associated proteins,including phospho-cyclin-dependent kinase 1(p-CDK1),phospho-ataxia telangiectasia-mutated(p-ATM),poly ADP-ribose polymerase(PARP),and meiotic recombination 11 homolog 1(MRE11).Conclusions TOPK was overexpressed in patients with moderately to poorly differentiated CRC.Moreover,TOPK knockdown significantly enhanced the radiosensitivity of CRC cells by reducing the DNA damage response.

Mechanism of selective laser trabeculoplasty:a systemic review

Although selective laser trabeculoplasty(SLT)is a recognized method for the treatment of glaucoma,the exact changes in the target tissue and mechanism for its intraocular pressure lowing effect are still unclear.The purpose of this review is to summarize the potential mechanisms of SLT on trabecular meshwork both in vivo and in vitro,so as to reveal the potential mechanism of SLT.SLT may induce immune or inflammatory response in trabecular meshwork(TM)induced by possible oxidative damage etc,and remodel extracellular matrix.It may also induce monocytes to aggregate in TM tissue,increase Schlemm’s canal(SC)cell conductivity,disintegrate cell junction and promote permeability through autocrine and paracrine forms.This provides a theoretical basis for SLT treatment in glaucoma.

Improvement for creep strength of a second-generation single crystal superalloy by design of heat treatments

Design of heat treatments is related to the key technology for development of nickel-based single crystal superalloys(Ni-SXs). Based on the full understanding of the solidification characteristics, this work applies optimization design of heat treatments for a second-generation Ni-SX. Microstructure evolution and creep properties are compared in the material under conventional/standard(Std.) and optimized(Opt.) treatments. For the Std. sample,strong dendritic segregations determine inconsistent microstructure evolution in the dendritic(D) and interdendritic region(ID), while the latter serves as weak area to have the prior microcrack initiation, damaging overall performance of the alloy. The Opt. treatment applies higher homogenization temperature, leading to overall reduced segregations, while not inducing incipient melting. A lower temperature of first-step ageing is used to lower the size ofγ'particles. These help to form the more uniform microstructure in dendritic and interdendritic region and relieve the inconsistent microstructure evolution. The balanced local strength makes ID no longer as the weak area,thus restricting microcrack initiation. Great improvement of high temperature and low stress property is obtained by this progress, leading to the pronounced increase of creep rupture life under 1100 °C/140 MPa.

Ischemic colitis induced by a platelet-raising capsule: A case report

BACKGROUND Ischemic colitis(IC)is also known as colon ischemia and is caused by colon vascular occlusion or nonocclusion,which results in a reduced blood supply to the colon and is not significant enough to maintain the metabolic function of cells,leading to intestinal wall ischemia.Its main symptoms include abdominal pain,diarrhea,and bloody stool.In severe cases,intestinal gangrene,peritonitis,intestinal stenosis and even intestinal obstruction may occur.IC induced by long-term use of certain special drugs is relatively rare in clinical practice.This article describes the clinical diagnosis and treatment of a typical case and provides a new treatment idea for the treatment of IC.CASE SUMMARY The patient was admitted to the hospital with"abdominal pain for half a month and bloody stool with mucous and pus for 3 d"and was diagnosed with"IC".Symptomatic and supportive treatment,such as antibiotics(levofloxacin),acid inhibition and stomach protection,fluid replenishment,and intravenous nutrition,was given.The patient's colonic ulcers were considered to be related to the oral administration of platelet(PLT)-raising capsules;the patient was asked to stop PLT-raising drugs for selective review via colonoscopy,and antibiotics and mesalazine enteric-coated tablets were stopped.Under the guidance of hematology consultation,60 mg of methylprednisolone was given in combination with PLT infusion to increase the PLT.After treatment,the patient's condition stabilized,the patient’s stool turned yellow,the patient’s symptoms improved,and the patient was allowed to leave the hospital.CONCLUSION PLT-raising capsules can lead to IC,so clinicians should have a full understanding of the application of these drugs in the treatment of various causes of thrombocyt-INTRODUCTION Ischemic colitis(IC)is also known as colon ischemia(CI)and is caused by colon vascular occlusion or nonocclusion,which results in a reduced blood supply to the colon;this process is not significant enough to maintain the metabolic function of cells,leading to int
