Background:The European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association(ECHSA)Congenital Heart Surgery Database(CHSD)was founded in 1999 and is open for worldwide participation.The current dataset includes a large amount of surgical data from both Europe and China.The purpose of this analysis is to compare patterns of practice and outcomes among pediatric congenital heart defect surgeries in Europe and China using the ECHSA-CHSD.Methods:We examined all European(125 centers,58,261 operations)and Chinese(13 centers,23,920 operations)data in the ECHSA-CHSD from 2006-2018.Operative mortality,postoperative length of stay,median patient age and weight were calculated for the ten benchmark operations for China and Europe,respectively.Results:Benchmark procedure distribution frequencies differed between Europe and China.In China,ventricular septal defect repair comprised approximately 70%of procedures,while Norwood operations comprised less than one percent of all procedures.Neonatal cardiac procedures were rare in China overall.For procedures in STAT mortality category 1,Chinese centers had lower operative mortality rates,while procedures in categories 3 and 5 mortality is lower in European centers.Operative mortality over the time period decreased from 3.89%to 1.64%for the whole cohort,with a sharper decline in China.This drop coincides with an increase of submitted procedures over this 13-year-period.Conclusion:Chinese centers had higher programmatic volume of congenital heart surgeries,while European centers have a more complex case mix.Palliation for patients with functionally univentricular heart was performed less commonly in China.These comparison of patterns of practice and outcomes demonstrate opportunities for continuing bidirectional transcontinental collaboration and quality improvement.

Strong Stability Preserving IMEX Methods for Partitioned Systems of Differential Equations

We investigate strong stability preserving(SSP)implicit-explicit(IMEX)methods for partitioned systems of differential equations with stiff and nonstiff subsystems.Conditions for order p and stage order q=p are derived,and characterization of SSP IMEX methods is provided following the recent work by Spijker.Stability properties of these methods with respect to the decoupled linear system with a complex parameter,and a coupled linear system with real parameters are also investigated.Examples of methods up to the order p=4 and stage order q—p are provided.Numerical examples on six partitioned test systems confirm that the derived methods achieve the expected order of convergence for large range of stepsizes of integration,and they are also suitable for preserving the accuracy in the stiff limit or preserving the positivity of the numerical solution for large stepsizes.

Modeling of Energy Processes in Wheel-Rail Contacts Operating under Influence of Periodic Discontinuous Forces

In this paper we present new numerical simulation approaches for determining the energy processes under periodic conditions caused by time-discontinuous forces in the wheel-rail contacts. The main advantage of the presented method is the total elimination of frequency analysis, which in effect introduces important simplifications in the identification of the effects in the contact. The second important feature is the fact that the method is based on the analysis of appropriate loops on the energy phase plane leading to an easy estimation of the rail strength through the evaluation of the loop’s area. That model based simulation in the applied dynamics relies on advanced methods for model setup, robust and efficient numerical solution techniques and powerful simulation tools for practical applications. Fundamental properties of contact displacements of the rail surface have been considered on the basis of the newly established method. The contact zone between railway wheels and the rail surfaces made of bulk materials is perceived as strong enough to resist the normal (vertical) forces introduced by heavy loads and the dynamic response induced by track and wheel irregularities. The analysis is carried out for a wheel running on an elastic rail rested on sleepers arranged on completely rigid foundation. The equations of displacement motion are established through the application of the Lagrange equations approach. The established model of the wheel-rail contact dynamics has been applied to that same roll plane but with taking into account a nonlinear characteristic of the sleeper with respect to the ground. Attention then is focused completely on the modeling of the energy absorbed by the rail. The applied method employs the energy state variables as time functions leading to determine the susceptibility of a given contact on the strength induced by the rail roll.

Time-Domain Analysis of the Periodically Discontinuously Forced Fractional Oscillators

A new method for the solution of non-sinusoidal periodic states in linear fractionally damped oscillators is presented. The oscillator is forced by a periodic discontinuous waveform and a viscous element is taken into account. The presented method avoids completely the Fourier series calculations of the input and output oscillator waveforms. In the proposed method, the steady-state response of fractionally damped oscillator is formulated directly in the time domain as a superposition of the zero-input and forced responses for each continuous piecewise segments of the forcing waveform, separately. The whole periodic response is reached by taking into account the continuity and periodicity conditions at instants of discontinuities of the excitation and then using the concatenation procedure for all segments. The method can be applied efficiently to discontinuous and continuous non-harmonic excitations equally well. Solutions are exact and there is no need to apply any of the widely up-to-date used frequency approaches. The Fourier series is completely cut out of the oscillator analysis.

Europium doped hafnium dioxide nanoparticles were crystallized using biologically friendly microwave hydrothermal method and employed in observation of small rodents tissues.Main solvent in synthesis is water,in consequence nanoparticles are found surrounded by thin hydroxide layer.Size of the nanoparticles is controlled by temperature of calcination.1200℃heating causes drop of luminescence intensity,explained as damage of high symmetry surface emission centers in the nanocrystals.On the other hand,growth of crystallites increases intensity of X-ray and electron beam excited luminescence.This makes them promising activator in photodynamic therapy.

Quantitative Determination of Material Hardness

The paper contains description of a new quantitative method of evaluation of material hardness. First the essence of cognition subject, concerned with the hardness notion, has been discussed. Next some characteristics of exemplary existing evaluation methods have been presented. Then the attention was paid to the mistakes present in understanding//reasoning of the discussed problem. The revolutionary new method is given in the next part of the paper by presenting functional and parametric characteristics of the process of local deformation of a material. At the end, the justification – with the essential meaning for investigations of present and newer materials – to introduce one unified quantitative method of hardness evaluation, has been delivered.

The Diffusion of Bilateral Tendencies in the Common Trade Policy of the European Union During the Global Financial and Economic Crisis

In this research work, the author focuses on the analysis of the diffusion of bilateral tendencies in the common trade policy of the European Union (EU) during the global financial and economic crisis. Realistic point is important trends in the trade regime during the economic crisis. The decisions taken by the representatives of the governments participating in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) are, to a significant degree, influenced by various lobbies, such as organisations and unions of food producers or other non governmental organisations, including trade unions. The main objective of the research task is to give a comprehensive analysis of the international trade policy during the world financial and economic crisis 2008 2010. The particular mains concern the political economy models of foreign trade policy, protectionistic pressures in different political system, the level of protectionistic pressures, food producer pressures, international trade liberalization, and environmental protection bilateral tendencies in the common trade policy of the EU and the respond of the EU to the economic crisis. It must be emphasized that on a theoretical level, understanding the choice of trade policies between liberalizm and protectionisme is very important. Despite the undeniable benefits of the multilateral WTO forum for trade liberalisation, the rapid increase of North South bilateral and multilateral Free Trade Areas (FTAs) begs a systematic explanation for why some forums are prioritized relative to others.

The Impact of lntemational Business for Intensive and Effective Economic Growth of China

In this research work, author focuses on the analysis the impact of international business for intensive and effectiveeconomic growth of China. It must be emphasized that openess to trade is associated with higher incomes andgrowth and there are the need for new approaches to trade cooperation in light of the forces that are currentlyre-shaping international business. The key of trade developments within the broader socio-economic context isespecially the rise of global supply chains, the general shift of trade power away fi＇om the West towards AsiaPacific state. In the new circumstances for the development of the global economy and the international trade,People＇s Republic of China seems to be a production superpower, able to change the world trade. The questionraised is whether the West will see China＇s rise as an opportunity for cooperation and peace or for conflict.Economic growth is generally more preferable in China to military and extensive expansion. With new investments,a country can transform its position through industrial expansion at home and sustain it through international trade.The main aim of the paper is the presentation of the impact of international business for intensive and effectiveeconomic growth of China.
