The preparation and behavior of powder stearin-based methyl ester sulfonates(MES)with the addition of builder as a glidant agent was *** is an anionic surfactant and its performance is equivalent to petroleum-based linear alkylbenzene sulfonates(LAS),the workhorses of the detergent *** the same time,zeolites or soda ash were the alternative builders for non-phosphate-based *** behavior of powder MES properties was measured in terms of morphology,particle size,cohesion,caking,and *** that,these palm stearin-based MES of carbon chain 16–18 with ratios of 98:2,80:20,and 60:40 in flakes were ground using a high shear mixer by 23,000 rpm to produce powder *** the particle size of MES powder can reduce the powder's cohesion,caking,and *** addition of zeolite or soda ash as a glidant in powdered MES can improve the caking *** high stearic in MES greatly influenced getting fine particle powders and required more glidant *** powder MES with excellent powder characteristics can perform well as a bio-based cleaning product.

Local Community Participation in Homestay Program Development in Malaysia

The tourism industry is the second largest economic contributor in Malaysia, following the manufacturing sector. In 2008, recorded tourist arrivals reached 22.05 million and resulted in RM49.6 billion （USD13.4 billion） in revenue. The government has recognized the tourism industry in Malaysia as an engine for economic, social, political and ecological development, especially in rural areas. The Homestay Program is actively promoted by the Ministry of Tourism as a type of community based tourism in Malaysia. It is realized by the government as a catalyst for rural community development, particularly from a socio-economic perspective. The benefits of community based tourism can be further developed through the participation of women, youth and retired people. To realize the potential of the Homestay Program, the Malaysian Rural Tourism Master Plan 2001 was formulated. In the Malaysian Plan （2006-2010）, one of the points of focus by the government is on community development; rural tourism is one of the mechanisms. By June 2009, there had been 3,264 participants in 140 Homestays. Recently, the Ministry of Tourism has given the Homestay Program special emphasis. Under the 9th Malaysia Plan, a total of RM40 million was allocated to the ministry for upgrading infrastructure and facilities in participating villages. Developing the capabilities of local communities is an important component in ensuring the tourism development project benefits them; without supporting the communities in their endeavors, the physical development means nothing to them. If local communities are not equipped to actively participate, third parties could easily manipulate them, resulting in external domination of tourism development. Objective:The objectives of this study were to determine the proportion of smokers regis-tered at the quit smoking clinic at a public hospital in northeastern Malaysia who successfully quit smoking and the predictive factors for successfully quitting ***:This was a cross-sectional study involving smokers aged more than 18 years old and registered with the clinic from January 1,2012,to October 31,*** were obtained with a designed questionnaire that consisted of sociodemographic information,medical history,smoking characteristics,and type of treatment received by *** who quit smoking 6 months after being registered at the quit smoking clinic were considered as successful *** lo-gistic regression was applied to determine the predictive factors for successfully quitting ***:From a total of 202 respondents,42.6%[95%confidence interval(CI)35.8-49.4%]of them successfully quit *** logistic regression showed that the number of ciga-rettes smoked per day(adjusted odds ratio 2.51,95%CI 1.17-5.41)and a previous quit attempt(adjusted odds ratio 1.88,95%CI 1.03-3.44)were significant predictors for successfully quitting ***:This study shows that the proportion of smokers who successfully quit smoking among smokers registered at the quit smoking clinic was relatively high.A number of cigarettes smoked per day of 20 or fewer and a previous quit attempt significantly predict successful quitting of smoking.

Introduction: A psychoactive substance has become an overwhelming public health burden globally. It causes social problems for the user and surrounding people which may affect work or study and cause negative economic impact. Objective: This study aims to translate and culturally adapt the alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) into Malay and to assess its reliability and validity. Methods: The Malay version of the ASSIST v 3.1 was developed after the translation and back-translation, which included the stages recommended by Beaton. The ASSIST v 3.1 was administered to 125 respondents. The Malay ASSIST v 3.1 was completed twice by each respondent 7 to 14-day intervals to assess test-retest reliability based on the intra-rater and interrater correlation coefficient. Results: Majority of the respondents were male, Malay and currently employed. The intra-rater reliability is 0.84 and the test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.97) were excellent. Conclusion: Malay ASSIST v3.1 was a valid and reliable tool to screen substances abuse at varying degree. Nonetheless, further studies are needed to assess its responsiveness.

Rationale:Diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis is a form of posterior uveitis and has a few clinical presentations according to the onset of ***’concern:A girl(5-year-old)and 2 boys(both 12-year-old)were included in this *** presentation,the visual acuity ranges from 6/12 to 6/*** three cases had different symptoms(case 1:floaters;case 2:eye redness and pain;case 3:central scotoma).all of them had variable posterior uveitis features(case 1:vitritis and focal retinitis;case 2:subretinal larva track;case 3:choroiditis).Diagnosis:Diffuse unilateral subacute ***:all 3 patients were treated with oral ***:all patients showed remarkable resolution of inflammatory reactions of the eye and also improvement of ***:High index of suspicion should be made for children and young adults who are previously healthy but presented with suddenly onset of reduced vision with clinical features of posterior uveitis of variable *** features together with a full blood picture can help to diagnose the problem when other parameters are negative.

Starfruit (Averrhoa carambola L.) is an important fruit for Malaysian export and great attention has been made to improve starfruit fruit quality at Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). The current study used next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies to develop starfruit simple sequence repeat (SSR) from 2 varieties namely B11 and B17 using Illumina HiSeq. The pre-processed reads were de novo assembled to generate approximately 75,000 and 74,000 scaffolds respectively. Total genome size for B11 and B17 were around 345 Mbp and 342 Mbp based on K-mer distribution analysis. In-silico microsatellite mining of each variety has identified more than 17,000 SSR in B11 and B17 respectively. Dinucleotides were the most abundant, accounting for more than 70% of all SSR and repeat motif GA (49%) was most common. A total of 239 SSR primer pairs were designed from contigs larger than 350 nucleotides and tested for amplification. The 30 polymorphic SSRs were used to DNA fingerprint of 12 starfruit hybrids. Polymorphism information content (PIC) ranged from 0.1411 to 0.6838, with an average of 0.3919. The Unweighted Pair-Group Method for Arithmetic Averages (UPGMA) dendrogram clustered 12 starfruit accessions into 2 groups.
