Metamodeling and multicriteria analysis for sustainable and passive residential building refurbishment: A case study of French housing stock

For the energy-related issues that the world is facing nowadays,the renovation of the building stock is one of the major challenges.The objective of this study is to present an approach that helps to develop a multi-criteria decision support tool dedicated to the rehabilitation of sustainable and passive energy housing by integrating heating energy needs,economic,social and environmental criteria throughout the life cycle stages of the building.The methodology consists of developing metamodels to predict heating energy needs from polynomial regression,design of experiments method and thermo-aeraulic simulations of building behavior.This metamodel is used to carry out a combinatorial study of real technical solutions.The methodology was applied to a real-life existing building located in La Rochelle city(France)based on an in-situ energy diagnosis.Three multicriteria analysis methods were studied and compared:weighted sum,Min-Max and Pareto concept.Furthermore,technical constraints as well as owner preferences and performance constraints have been studied.Optimal technical solutions have been obtained in order to meet the various criteria studied.In addition,window shading and natural ventilation have been proposed to reduce the thermal discomfort rate in summer.This study was extended to all French regions.Finally,this method can be transformed into a decision support tool which will be useful for architects,engineers and stockholders.

Numerical analysis of horizontal temperature distribution in large buildings by thermo-aeraulic zonal approach

The commercial and public services sectors including shopping centers,worship buildings,theatres,and other types,account for more than 20%of the electricity consumption in the world.These building typologies are characterized by large spaces and high and temporary occupation.Besides,the horizontal temperature distribution in these buildings becomes one of the important parameters on occupant's comfort and energy efficiency.In the present study,a thermo-aeraulic zonal model using TRNSYS and CONTAM simulation tools is developed to analyze the spatial temperature distribution in a large building.Parametric studies relating to mesh discretization of building volume are performed to optimize the computational time and convergence.Extensive computational simulation is carried out to analyze the impact of building height,internal loads,natural ventilation and climatic conditions on the spatial temperature distribution,building energy performance,and thermal comfort.The developed simulation model in this study is effective to predict the horizontal temperature distribution with reasonable computation time compared to CFD simulations.The results show that the internal heat gains lead to an increase in the horizontal temperature gradient which should not be negligible especially in the case of large buildings.On the other side,natural night ventilation can reduce the peak tempearture in building by 3℃ for normal occupation building with limited internal gains.Furthermore,good spatial temperature distribution can decrease annual building energy needs about 32%.It can be helpful for architects and building developers to make an optimal choice regarding to building envelope and HVAC design.

HER2-positive breast cancer is an aggressive disease.As a result of the development of specific HER2-targeted therapies,such as trastuzumab,more than 20 years ago,the prognosis of these patients has improved.Metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer patients are achieving better survival rates upon treatment with anti-HER2 therapies than patients with HER2-negative disease.Double HER2 blockade with trastuzumab and pertuzumab combined with a taxane achieved an unprecedented survival of over 57 months in first-line patients.Trastuzumab emtansine,the first antibody-drug conjugate approved for patients in second-line treatment was a potent cytotoxic agent bound to trastuzumab and is currently a standard therapeutic strategy.Despite the progress in treatment development,most patients develop resistance and eventually relapse.Advances in the design of antibody-drug conjugates have led to the development of new generation drugs with enhanced properties,such as trastuzumab deruxtecan and trastuzumab duocarmazine,which are significantly changing the paradigm in the treatment of HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer.

Mapping and ultrastructure of antennal chemosensilla of the wheat bug Eurygaster maura

Antennae of the wheat stink bug Eurygaster maura L. （Hemiptera： Scutelleridae） were investigated to elucidate structure and distribution of antennal chemosensilla in females. Five type of sensilla were identified and characterized using a scanning electron microscope （SEM） and a transmission electron microscope （TEM）. Type 1 sensilla are mechanical and contact chemoreceptors with a single apical pore. Types 2 and 3 sensilla are multiporous chemoreceptors both with typical features of olfactory sensilla. Type 4 are multiporous peg-like sensilla, short and with a grooved surface. Type 5 are sensilla coeloconica with a smooth and aporous peg completely inserted in a sub-cuticular chamber. All types are distributed on the two flagellar segments, but we considered only the apical flagellomere in which the largest number of sensilla are located. The most abundant sensilla are type 3, while the less numerous are type 5. All types, except type 2, decreased in number from the tip to the base of the segment. The lower density of sensilla was recorded on the dorsal-internal part of the apical antennomere, while the higher density was recorded on the opposite side （external-ventral）.

Identification of Target Genes and Transcription Factors Implicated in Translation-Dependent Retrograde Sig- naling in Arabidopsis

Changes in organellar gene expression （OGE） trigger retrograde signaling. The molecular dissection of OGE-dependent retrograde signaling based on analyses of mutants with altered OGE is complicated by compensatory responses that mask the primary signaling defect and by secondary effects that influence other retrograde signaling pathways. Therefore, to identify the earliest effects of altered OGE on nuclear transcript accumulation, we have induced OGE defects in adult plants by ethanol-dependent repression of PRORS1, which encodes a prolyl-tRNA synthetase located in chloroplasts and mitochondria. After 32 h of PRORS1 repression, the translational capacity of chloroplasts was reduced, and this effect subsequently intensified, while basic photosynthetic parameters were still unchanged at 51 h. Analysis of changes in whole-genome transcriptomes during exposure to ethanol revealed that induced PRORS1 silencing affects the expression of 1020 genes in all. Some of these encode photosynthesis-related proteins, including several down-regulated light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b binding （LHC） proteins. Interestingly, genes for presumptive endoplasmic reticulum pro- teins are transiently up-regulated. Furthermore, several NAC-domain-containing proteins are among the transcription factors regulated. Candidate cis-acting elements which may coordinate the transcriptional co-regulation of genes sets include both G-box variants and sequence motifs with no similarity to known plant c/s-elements.

Effect of Milling and Parboiling Processes on Arsenic Species Distribution in Rice Grains

This study identified the role of milling and parboiling on arsenic(As)content and its species in large numbers of rice samples.Total As contents were 108±33μg/kg in polished rice grains(PR),159±46μg/kg in unpolished rice grains(UR),145±42μg/kg in parboiled polished rice grains(PPR)and 145±44μg/kg in parboiled unpolished rice grains(PUR).The percentages of inorganic As(iAs)were 66%±8%in PR and from 72%to 77%in other grain categories.The polishing process reduced the As content in the rice grains,removing outer part of the UR with high amount of As,whereas the parboiling technique transferred the semimetal content within the grain.Total As and iAs contents were not significantly different in UR,PPR and PUR,homogenizing its distribution inside the grains.The results allowed to understand how different operations affect As fate and its chemical forms in grains.

Dectin- 1 isoforms contribute to distinct Th 1/Th 17 cell activation in mucosal candidiasis

The recognition of p-glucans by dectin-1 has been shown to mediate cell activation, cytokine production and a variety of antifungal responses. Here, we report that the functional activity of dectin-1 in mucosal immunity to Candida albicans is influenced by the genetic background of the host. Dectin-1 was required for the proper control of gastrointestinal and vaginal candidiasis in C57BIJ6, but not BALB/c mice; in fact, the latter showed increased resistance in the absence of dectin-1. The susceptibility of dectin-l-deficient C57BL/6 mice to infection was associated with defects in IL-17A and aryl hydrocarbon receptor-dependent IL-22 production and in adaptive Th I responses. In contrast, the resistance of dectin- 1-deficient BALB/c mice was associated with increased IL-17A and IL-22 production and the skewing towards Thl/Treg immune responses that provide immunological memory. Disparate canonical/ noncanonical NF-KB signaling pathways downstream of dectin-1 were activated in the two different mouse strains. Thus, the net activity of dectin-1 in antifungal mucosal immunity is dependent on the host＇s genetic background, which affects both the innate cytokine production and the adaptive Th1/Th17 cell activation upon dectin-1 signaling.

Non-hematopoietic cells contribute to protective tolerance to Aspergillus fumigatus via a TRIF pathway converging on IDO

Innate responses combine with adaptive immunity to generate the most effective form of anti-Aspergillus immune resistance.Whereas the pivotal role of dendritic cells in determining the balance between immunopathology and protective immunity to the fungus is well established,we determined that epithelial cells(ECs)also contributes to this balance.Mechanistically,EC-mediated protection occurred through a Toll-like receptor 3/Toll/IL-1 receptor domain-containing adaptor-inducing interferon(TLR3/TRIF)-dependent pathway converging on indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase(IDO)via non-canonical nuclear factor-kB activation.Consistent with the high susceptibility of TRIF-deficient mice to pulmonary aspergillosis,bone marrow chimeric mice with TRIF unresponsive ECs exhibited higher fungal burdens and inflammatory pathology than control mice,underexpressed the IDO-dependent T helper 1/regulatory T cell(Th1/Treg)pathway and overexpressed the Th17 pathway with massive neutrophilic inflammation in the lungs.Further studies with interferon(IFN)-c,IDO or IL-17R unresponsive cells confirmed the dependency of immune tolerance to the fungus on the IFN-c/IDO/Treg pathway and of immune resistance on the MyD88 pathway controlling the fungal growth.Thus,distinct immune pathways contribute to resistance and tolerance to the fungus,to which the hematopoietic/non-hematopoietic compartments contribute through distinct,yet complementary,roles.

Zircon U-Pb Ages and Hf Isotopes of Neoproterozoic Meta-Igneous Rocks in the Liansandao Area,Northern Sulu Orogen,Eastern China,and the Tectonic Implications

The Sulu Orogen preserves the Neoproterozoic tectonic-magmatic events,corresponding to the breaking up of the Rodinia supercontinent.The ages and petrogenesis of meta-igneous rocks in the Liansandao area in the northern Sulu Orogen are not well-constrained.This study reports zircon U-Pb ages and Hf isotopes of these rocks from the Liansandao area.Three meta-igneous rock samples give similar weighted mean 206 Pb/238 U ages of 744±11,767±12,and 762±15 Ma,respectively,indicating the Neoproterozoic crystallization ages.These rocks formed coevally with the Wulian and Yangkou intrusions that located along the Yantai-Qingdao-Wulian fault zone.The Neoproterozoic ages indicate that the meta-igneous rocks from the Liansandao area have affinity to the Yangtze Block.The three samples haveεHf(t)values of-7.2–-10.5,-6.0–-17.5,and-6.8–-12.0,respectively.These negativeεHf(t)values indicate a primarily crustal source.However,the widely variousεHf(t)values that are higher than the continental crust,suggesting magma mixing between mantle-derived materials and the continental crust or source heterogeneity.Combined with the Hf model ages and geochemical characteristics,the monzodiorite(sample LSD-2)is most likely to be mantle-derived magma then interacted with ancient continental crust,and the granitic protolith(samples LSD-1 and LSD-3)in the Liansandao area might derive from the re-melting of a Paleoproterozoic continental crust at^750 Ma,resulting from the upwelling and underplating of mantle-derived magma formed in an extensional setting due to the break-up of the Rodinia supercontinent.

Orogenic Movements during the Paleozoic Period: Development of the Granitoid Formations in the Northwestern Region of Spain’s Iberian Peninsula

In the present study,Paleozoic Variscan orogenesis was a model of the oroclinal flexion accompanied by extensive magmatism,which could be divided into the following two types:post-tectonic and syn-tectonic tonalite granite,and leuco-granite which were controlled by the tectonic characteristics of the intrusions.It was observed that a very high majority of the samples had displayed discontinuities in their structures,that were later utilized to define the granitoid morphology and development characteristics of the rock during the intrusion phases.Furthermore,it was determined that the tectonics associated with the Alpine orogeny results in the new generation of faults and fractures during the Paleogene Period had produced the development of the Sierras.Due to different weathering processes,the depressions which had resulted in the present granitoid reliefs were found to be exclusively related to the structural development processes during the geological history(either tectonic or magmatic)of the granite,and not as normally interpreted.
