Germline cells derived from mesenchymal stem cells, with the focus on Wharton's jelly

Previous attempts have indicated that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a valuable source and candidate and new approach for tissue engineering and reproductive medicine. MSCs have this potential to be induced and differentiated in an appropriatein vivoandin vitro condition toward various cell lineages and then they can be applied in cell therapies and clinical applications. During recent two decades, various sources have demonstrated they are a great source for MSCs, including bone marrow, the human umbilical cord as well as Wharton's jelly. Due to discarding after birth, easily accessible cells and less ethical concerns, these cells have attracted more and more scientists' attention. Infertility and reproduction diseases have provided special opportunity to examine the efficiency of MSCs in this kind of application. Based on recent investigations, MSCs embedded in Wharton's jelly tissue are more appealing for cell therapies, especially in infertility treatment purposes. So, differentiation of MSCs embedded in Wharton's jelly tissue into germ layer cells for cell-based therapy purposes is now under intensive study.

Rigid contact lens fitting based on keratometry readings in keratoconus patients:predicting formula

AIM:To find a simple mathematical correlation between the lens base curve(BC) and keratometry findings(krf).METHODS:This retrospective study included 400 keratoconic eyes(350 patients) previously fit with rigid contact lenses at an academic eye center over a five year period.The patients were classified into five groups based on the keratometry findings(krf8,krf-krs(difference between two keratometry;flat and steep)= 0.3-0.6,krf-krs >0.6mm as groups 1 to 5,respectively.Multivariate linear regression and Munro’s correlation coefficient were employed to defer the formulas.RESULTS:A linear correlation could be found in all groups except for patients in group 3.For group 1,BC=0.211×krf+ 5.904.For group 2,BC=0.456×krf+4.160.For group 4,BC= 0.321×krf+5.219.For group 5,BC=0.337×krf+ 5.090.CONCLUSION:The development of new formulas for RGP fitting enables ophthalmologists to work with confidence and prevents unnecessary and frequent lens trials.The customary lens fitting methods are needed to be replaced by new formulas,which help to save time and costs.

Background: Mycosis Fungoides (MF) is the most common and indolent form of Cutaneuse T-cell Lymphomas (CTCL), that usually occurs in old adults. Objectives: To determine epidemiologic features and patients characteristics of MF in Isfahan (Iran). Methods: We performed a retrospective study in MF clinic of alzahra hospital that is the main center for treatment of MF patients in Isfahan (Iran) and evaluated clinicopathologic features. Results: In 3 years 25 patients were referred to Alzahra MF clinic. 18 patients diagnosed as MF. Seven (38.9%) patients were male and 11 (61.1%) were female with male to female ratio of 1:1.57. The mean age of patients was 41.06 years. 88.9% of our patients were in stages ΙA and ΙB. Conclusion: Most of our patients presented in early stages that were similar to other studies, while male: female ratio is different from other studies.

目的:探讨隐形眼镜基线(BC)和角膜曲率结果(Krf)之间简单的数学相关性。方法:本回顾性研究包括350例400只圆锥角膜的眼睛,其先前五年在学院眼科中心验配硬性隐形眼镜。根据角膜曲率结果患者被分为五组,分别为Krf8,Krf-Krs(两个角膜曲率的差异;平坦和陡峭)=0.3-0.6,Krf-Krs>0.6mm1至5组,使用多元线性回归和蒙罗相关系数推测公式。结果:除了第3组患者,可以在所有组中发现线性相关。第1组,BC=0.211×5.904Krf。第2组,BC=0.456×Krf4.160。第4组,BC=0.321×5.219Krf。第5组,BC=0.337×Krf+5.090。结论:RGP验配新公式的发展,可增强眼科医生工作的信心,避免不必要的和频繁的眼镜试验。通常的隐形眼镜验配方法需要更换新的公式,从而帮助节省时间和费用。

The effect of head and facial massage on sleep condition after coronary artery bypass graft surgery

Background:Sleep disorders after heart surgery lead to increased heart rate,myocardial oxygen demand,and cause dysrhythmia that worsens heart ischemia.The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of head and facial massage on sleep conditions following coronary artery bypass graft surgery.Materials and methods:A randomized controlled trial was performed on 72 patients.They were randomly divided into interventional(n=36)and control groups(n=36).On the third to fifth day after the operation,head and the facial massage were done for 15 min in the intervention group.The patients in the control group received only routine care.Richard Campbell’s Sleep Questionnaire was completed for four consecutive days for each group.Data were analyzed in SPSS V26.Results:Mean scores for sleep conditions before the intervention no statistically significant difference seen between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention,there was a statistically significant difference between mean scores for sleep conditions of the interventional and control groups(P<0.001).Also with general estimated equation test compared mean scores for sleep conditions between two groups.That revealed sleep condition total score in the intervention group was more than the control group and the trend of changes over time was statistically significant(P<0.001).Conclusion:Head and facial massage is an effective nursing intervention in improving the sleep condition of patients after coronary artery bypass graft.Due to the fact that head and face massage is an easy method and brings patient satisfaction,it is recommended to use this method as a suitable supplement for drug therapy and postoperative interventions in these patients.
