Bone fractures are common occurrence in clinical settings,creating a high demand for effective repair ***,limited graft availability,donor site morbidities,unpredictable clinical outcomes,immunologic reactions,infection risks,and geometrical mismatching concerns hampered tissue graft use and underscored the need for scaffolds for more effective bone reconstructions due to their tunable *** progress has been carried out in past decade in the fields of nanoceramics synthesis,bioconjugate chemistry,and composite material *** review outlines hierarchical structures and biology of bone tissue,materialistic compo-nents of scaffolds(bioceramics,polymers,bioactive drugs),featured scaffolding strategies(nanofibers,hydrogels,aerogels,bioprinting,and fiber-reinforced composite),and emphasis that hierarchical and physiochemical char-acteristics of bone should be used as an inspiration for scaffold *** review discussed how differences in materiobiological aspects of scaffolds,such as polymer/bioceramic nanocomposite,mineralized nanocomposite,matrix-rich nanocomposite,3D microenvironmental cues,pore space cues,mechanical cues,usage of physical stimulation(magnetic,electroactive,and photoactivated cues),surface cues(wettability,roughness,textured,and surface charge),and biointerface cues(cell-biomaterial interactions,cell-selective homing,and cell regula-tory strategies)modulate cellular and biological response for bone tissue *** study further outlines the challenges and benefits of integrating materiobiological cues of scaffolds for bone tissue engineering.

Enhancing alkyne semi-hydrogenation through engineering metal-support interactions of Pd on oxides

Supported Pd catalysts show superior activities for olefin productions from alkynes through semi-hydrogenation reactions,but over-hydrogenation into alkanes highly decreases olefin *** phenylacetylene semi-hydrogenation as a model reaction,here we explore the optimization approaches toward better Pd catalysts for alkyne semi-hydrogenation through investigating support effect and metal-support *** results show that the states of Pd with supports can be tuned by varying oxide reducibility,loading ratios,and *** our system,0.06 wt.%Pd on rutile-TiO_(2) nanorods shows the highest activity owing to the synergistic effects of single-atoms and *** reducibility can change the filling degrees of Pd 4d orbitals through varying interfacial bonding strengths,which further affect catalytic activity and selectivity.

Establishing simulation model for optimizing efficiency of CNC machine using reliability-centered maintenance approach

The objective of this work was to enhance the product’s quality by concentrating on the machine’s optimized *** order to increase the machine’s reliability,the basis of reliability-centered maintenance approach was *** purpose was to establish a planned preventive maintenance strategy to identify the machine’s critical components having a noteworthy effect on the product’s *** critical components were prioritized using failure mode and effect analysis(FMEA).The goal of the study was to decrease the ppm time interval for a CNC machine by simulating the projected preventive maintenance time *** this purpose,the simulation software ProModel 7.5 was implemented for the current preventive maintenance procedure to choose the best ppm time interval which contributed better *** dissimilar optimization approaches were applied,however,the first approach yielded the prominent total system cost and the shorter ppm *** results of the study revealed that there was an increase of USD 1878 as a result of an increase in total system cost from USD 78,365 to USD 80,*** maintenance costs were reduced from USD 4196 to USD 2248(46%).The costs associated with good parts increased from USD 8259 to USD 8294(0.4%)and the costs associated with defective parts reduced from USD 171 to USD 3(98.25%),respectively.

A novel method for the cation analysis was investigated. The analysis is based on the sparking of the salts of metals in a microwave oven after placing in a graphite cell. The graphite cell absorbs microwaves and produces high temperature which converts the salt into light emitting species. The colour of light was found to dependent on the nature of cation, however, the intensity of the emitted light was found to be depending upon the form and shape of the graphite assembly in addition to the concentration of the salt. This communication presents explanation for all these observations and for the systematic and quantitative analysis using microwave spark emission technique.

Synergistic effects of combined therapy of curcumin and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi for treatment of osteoporosis: cellular and molecular evidence of enhanced bone formation

Objective: The present study explored the effects of the combined herbal therapy consisting of curcumin(CUR) and Fructus Ligustri Lucidi(FLL) on aspects of bone ***: Prior to analyzing the ability of this novel combined herbal therapy to promote aspects of bone regeneration, its cytotoxicity was determined using MC3 T3-E1 cells(pre-osteoblast model). Cell proliferation was evaluated using phase-contrast microscopy and cell differentiation was estimated using alkaline phosphatase activity. The effect of the combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) was also assessed in terms of mineralization in the extracellular matrix(ECM) of cultured cells. Further, to explore the molecular mechanisms of bone formation, time-dependent expression of bone-regulating protein biomarkers was also ***: Combined herbal therapy(CUR + FLL) significantly upregulated the viability, proliferation and differentiation of MC3 T3-E1 cells compared to the monotherapy of CUR or FLL. The magnitude of ECM mineralization(calcium deposition) was also higher in MC3 T3-E1 cells treated with combined *** time-dependent expression of bone-forming protein biomarkers revealed that the tendency of expression of these bone-regulating proteins was remarkably higher in cells treated with combined ***: The co-administration of CUR and FLL had superior promotion of elements of bone regeneration in cultured cells, thus could be a promising alternative herbal therapy for the management of bone erosive disorders such as osteoporosis.

Recent advances in gel polymer electrolyte for high-performance lithium batteries

Lithium batteries (LBs) have become increasingly important energy storage systems in our daily life. However, their practical applications are still severely plagued by the safety issues from liquid electrolyte, especially when the batteries are exposed to mechanical, thermal, or electrical abuse conditions. Gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) are being considered as an effective solution to replace currently available organic liquid electrolyte for building safer LBs. This review provides recent advancements in GPEs applied for high-performance LBs. On the one hand, from the environmental and economic point of view, the skeletons of GPEs changed from traditional polymer to renewable and degradable polymer. On the other hand, in addition to being as a component with good electrochemical and physical characterizations, the GPEs also need to provide some functions for addressing the concerns of lithium (Li) dendrites, unstable cathode electrolyte interface, dissolution and migration of transition metal ions,"shuttle effect" of polysulfides, and so on. Finally, to synchronously meet the challenges from the advanced cathode and Li metal anode, the bio-based GPEs with multi-functionality are proposed to develop high-energy/powerdensity batteries in the future.

Phytopharmacological potential of different species of Morus alba and their bioactive phytochemicals:A review

Medicinal plants of Moraceae family have been well-recognized traditionally due to their versatile applications in various fields including agriculture, cosmetic and food as well as in pharmaceutical industries. Their biomedical and medicinal importance is reflected from their broad range of pharmacological activities for treatment of various inflammatory conditions, cancer, infectious diseases, and gastrointestinal disorders. The present review was aimed to summarize and critically discuss the biomedical implications of Morus species, their bioactive compounds, and phytochemicals. Bioactivity guided fractionation of these medicinal plants revealed that different types of bioactive phytochemicals and secondary metabolites such as steroids, saponins, alkaloids, glycosides and phenolic compounds including terpenoids, flavonoids, anthocyanins and tannins were present. The critical analysis of the literature revealed that the aqueous, methanolic, and ethanolic extracts of Morus species and their bioactive compounds exhibit remarkable anti-oxidative,anti-diabetic, anti-stress, nephroprotective, antimicrobial, anti-mutagenic, anticancer,anxiolytic, hepatoprotective, anthelmintic, antimicrobial, immune-modulatory and cholesterol lowering effects. Based on the literature review and bioactivity guided investigation of Morus species and their phytomedicinal effects, we anticipate that these herbal products hold excellent potential for future research.

Bimetallic Fe-Mo sulfide/carbon nanocomposites derived from phosphomolybdic acid encapsulated MOF for efficient hydrogen generation

To tackle the energy crisis and achieve more sustainable development,hydrogen as a clean and renewable energy resource has attracted great *** for cheap but efficient catalysts for hydrogen production from water splitting is urgently *** this report,bimetallic Fe-Mo sulfide/carbon nanocomposites that derived from a polyoxometalate phosphomolybdic acid encapsulated metal-organic framework MIL-100(PMA@MIL-100)have been generated and their applications in electrocatalytic hydrogen generation were *** PMA@MIL-100 precursor is formed via a simple one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method and the bimetallic Fe-Mo sulfide/carbon nanocomposites were obtained by chemical vapor sulfurization of PMA@MIL-100 at high *** nanocomposite samples were fully characterized by a series of techniques including X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared analysis,thermogravimetric analysis,N2 gas sorption,scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and were further investigated as electrocatalysts for hydrogen production from water *** hydrogen production activity of the best performed bimetallic Fe-Mo sulfide/carbon nanocomposite exhibits an overpotential of-0.321 V at 10 m A cm^(-2)and a Tafel slope of 62 m V dec^(-1)with a 53%reduction in overpotential compared to Mo-free counterpart *** dramatic improvement in catalytic performance of the Fe-Mo sulfide/carbon composite is attributed to the homogeneous distribution of the nanosized iron sulfide,MoS_(2)particles,and the formation of Fe-Mo-S phases in the S-doped porous carbon *** work has demonstrated a potential approach to fabricate complex heterogeneous catalytic materials for different applications.

Efficient hepatoprotective activity of cranberry extract against CCl_4-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar albino rat model: Down-regulation of liver enzymes and strong antioxidant activity

ObjectiveTo investigate the hepatoprotective efficacy of cranberry extract (CBE) against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatic injury using in-vivo animal *** hepatoprotective efficacy of CBE (200 and 400 mg/kg) was investigated against CCl4 (4 mL/kg)-induced hepatotoxicity, elevated liver enzymes [ALT (alanine aminotransferase), AST (aspartate aminotransferase), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP)], and total protein (TP) contents in the serum. Moreover, CBE-aided antioxidant defense against hepatotoxic insult of CCl4 was measured by evaluating a number of anti-oxidative biomarkers including reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum by using spectrophotometric *** showed that the exposure of experimental animals to CCl4 did induce significant hepatotoxicity compared to the non-induced (untreated) group. The oral administration of CBE demonstrated a significant dose-dependent alleviation in the liver enzymes (AST, ALT, and ALP), increased antioxidant defense (GSH, SOD, and CAT), and reduced MDA levels in the serum of treated animals compared to the animals without treatment. The resulting data showed that the administration of CBE decreased the serum levels of ALT, AST, and ALP compared to the CCl4-induced *** resulting data evidenced that CBE exhibits promising hepatoprotective potential against the chemical induced hepatotoxicity, maintains homeostasis in liver enzymes, and can provide significant antioxidant defense against free radicals-induced oxidative stress.
