piEnPred:a bi-layered discriminative model for enhancers and their subtypes via novel cascade multi-level subset feature selection algorithm

Enhancers are short DNA cis-elements that can be bound by proteins(activators)to increase the possibility that transcription of a particular gene will *** Enhancers perform a significant role in the formation of proteins and regulating the gene transcription *** diseases such as cancer,inflammatory bowel disease,Parkinson’s,addiction,and schizophrenia are due to genetic variation in *** the current study,we havemade an effort by building,amore robust and novel computational a bi-layered *** representative feature vector was constructed over a linear combination of six *** optimum Hybrid feature vector was obtained via the Novel Cascade Multi-Level Subset Feature selection(CMSFS)*** first layer predicts the enhancer,and the secondary layer carries the prediction of their *** baseline model obtained 87.88%of accuracy,95.29%of sensitivity,80.47%of specificity,0.766 of MCC,and 0.9603 of a roc value on ***,the model obtained 68.24%,65.54%,70.95%,0.3654,and 0.7568 as an Accuracy,sensitivity,specificity,MCC,and ROC values on layer-2 *** an independent dataset on layer-1,the piEnPred secured 80.4%accuracy,82.5%of sensitivity,78.4%of specificity,and 0.6099 as MCC,***,the proposed predictor obtained 72.5%of accuracy,70.0%of sensitivity,75%of specificity,and 0.4506 of MCC on layer-2,*** proposed method remarkably performed in contrast to other state-of-the-art *** the convenience of most experimental scientists,a user-friendly and publicly freely accessible web server@/bienhancer dot pythonanywhere dot com has been developed.

Ex-Situ Cultivation of Medicinal Plant Species in High Altitudes at Swat,Pakistan

An ex-situ experiment was conducted to evaluate the growth performance of six medicinal species (Bergenia ciliata,Valeriana jatamansi,Dioscorea deltoidea,Paeonia emodi,Polygonum amplexicaule and Viola serpense) from upper Swat,*** were conducted at four different locations in the upper Swat valley at altitudes ranging from 1200 to 1900 *** objectives were:1) to determine the suitability of ex-situ cultivation of different medicinal species,and;2) to assess the economic geasibility of growing medicinal plants in the area.A highest mean survival of 80.7% across all locations was observed for Viola serpense,followed by 58.7% for Valeriana *** remaining four species exhibited very poor survival rates,although Polygonum amplexicaule,did show encouraging signs of growth and flowered,before experiencing high mortality rates late in the *** generally seemed to enhance the degree of sprouting for all species except Viola ***,the productive yield of *** was certainly not reduced,but rather slightly enhanced in the higher altitude ***,cultivation of only two of the investigated species,Valeriana jatamansi and Viola serpense,appeared successful and potentially economically viable under farmland conditions at upper Swat.

The kinetics and mechanism of lactic acid oxidation in the presence of Mn(II)and Ce(IV)ions by chromic acid were studied *** oxidation of lactic acid by Cr(VI)was found to proceed in two measurable steps,both of which gave pyruvic acid as the primary product in the absence of Mn(II).2Cr(VI)+2CH3CHOHCOOH→2CH3COCOOH+Cr(V)+Cr(III)Cr(V)+CH3CHOHCOOH→Cr(III)+CH3COCOOH The observed kinetics was explained due to the catalytic and inhibitory effects of Mn(II)and Ce(IV)on the lactic acid oxidation by Cr(VI).The reactivity of lactic acid depends upon the experimental *** acts as a two-or three-equivalent reducing agent in the absence or presence of Mn(II).It was examined that Cr(III)products resulting from the direct reduction of Cr(VI)by three-equivalent reducing *** oxidation of lactic acid follows the complex order kinetics with respect to [lactic acid].The activation parameters Ea,ΔH#,and ΔS# were calculated and discussed.

Micelle Catalyzed Oxidation of D-Mannose by Cerium (IV) in Sulfuric Acid

Kinetics of D-mannose oxidation by cerium (IV) was studied in a sulfuric acid medium at 40 ℃ both in absence and presence of ionic micelles. In both cases, the rate of the reaction was first-order in D-mannose and in cerium (IV), which decreased with increasing [H2SO4]. This suggested that the redox reaction followed the same mechanism. The reaction proceeded through formation of an intermediate complex, which was proved by kinetic method. The complex underwent slow unimolecular decomposition to a free radical that reacted with cerium (IV) to afford the product. The catalytic role of cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles was best explained by the Menger-Portnoy model. The study of the effect of CTAB also indicated that a negatively charged species was reactive form of cerium (IV). From the kinetic data, micelle-cerium (IV) binding and rate constants in micellar medium were evaluated. The anionic micelle of sodium dodecyl sulfate plays no catalytic role. The oxidation has the rate expression: -d[Ce(IV)]= k1Kc1[D-mannose][Ce(IV)]dt Different activation parameters for micelle catalyzed and uncatalyzed paths were also calculated and discussed.

Evaluation of Tomato Lines against Septoria Leaf Spot under Field Conditions and Its Effect on Fruit Yield

Field studies were conducted at Hazara Agriculture Research Station, Abbottabad to evaluate thirteen AVRDC lines along with one commercial check (Roma) for potential of fruit yield against septoria leaf spot during summer season 2014. The disease established itself by natural infection and disease severity was estimated with the help of 0 - 5 disease rating scale after 15 days interval from the onset of symptoms. The lines showed significant difference in % septoria leaf spot infection. The disease severity % increased up to 100% in line AVTO1314 whereas the lowest % severity was recorded in AVTO1173 which showed the highest yield (468.1 g) with average fruit weight 122.22 g while the significantly lowest mean yield/plant (35.05 g) was calculated in line AVTO1314 with fruit weight 47.92 g. It was concluded that the line AVTO1173 could be useful in genetic programs for incorporating resistant genes in local tomato germplasm against septoria leaf spot disease.

In the present work on population status,threats and conservation of the spotted pond turtle;Geoclemys hamiltonii(Gray,1830)(Geoemydidae)was conducted in Thatta,Sujawal and Badin districts of Sindh province of Pakistan.A total number of 277 live specimens of *** from southeast province(Sindh)of Pakistan have been collected from different water bodies and sites in three consecutive year’s i.e *** population status of *** has recorded as decreasing in Sindh due to habitat destruction,eutrophication,agricultural farming and some other anthropogenic *** species is mostly used as pet and the poachers mostly carrying this species for trade in East Asian *** globally illegal trading hubs of this species are Bangkok,Taiwan and Hong *** and powerful actions and efforts are needed to raise awareness of smuggling of wildlife,with a specific need of formal memorandums of understanding(MOUs)are strongly encouraged south Asian and east Asian countries to control illegal trade between the countries and territories along the trade route of Bangladesh,India,Pakistan,Thailand,Hong Kong and Taiwan to improve cross border enforcement.

Silver Nanoparticles: Green Route, Stability and Effect of Additives

Colloidal silver nanoparticles were prepared by reducing silver nitrate with oxalic acid in presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The synthesized silver particles show an intense surface plasmon band in the visible region. The work reported in this paper describes the effect of concentration of various additives (NaCl, NaBr, NaNO3, Na2SO4 and NaH2PO4) and ammonia on the growth and stability of Ag-nanoparticles. In all the cases the rate decreases as the [electrolytes] or [ammonia] increases. The nature, polarizability and coordinating ability of the anions play vital roles for nucleus formation and the growth process, which subsequently form different size particles. Transmission electron microscopy, selected areas electron diffraction, and UV-visible spectroscopy have been employed to characterize Ag-nanoparticles. The effect of the following variables on the particle size and size distribution was investigated: the [oxalic acid], [CTAB] and [Ag+].The nanoparticles are stable in NaNO3 and NaH2PO4 solutions;but NaCl, NaBr and Na2SO4 causes their aggregation.

Prevalence of Infectious Complications in Children with Cancer

Background:?Infections are the most common complications during chemotherapy. The trends have been changing over time due to use of multi-agent intensive chemotherapy.?Procedure:?We looked?over?our data to see what complications we get in our patients. The data was collected on patients treated in King Fahad Medical City from July 2009 to Dec 2015.?Results:?We?found that 86 patients had one episode only while 92 had 2 or more episodes reaching up to 11 episodes in 1 patient. We found positive cultures in 17.3% of episodes with staphylococcus as common gram positive and Klebsiella pneumoniae as common gram negative bacteria, respiratory viral infections in 13.8% and GI infections in 9%. We found Candida albicans as the most common fungus while other yeasts followed. Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia was the most common diagnosis. The episodes were associated with neutropenia of 7 days in 1st?episode and 56.8% in cases with repeated episodes. We had 2 deaths one from recurrent infections with CNS (Central Nervous System) damage and one from Pulmonary infections causing pulmonary haemorrhage. We had one with persistent neurological sequele from prolonged fungal infection.?Conclusions:Neutropenia of 7 days came out to be significant risk factors for infection across all diseases. We have an acceptable level of morbidity and mortality due to good supportive services.?We need prospective studies to get an up-to-date picture of our practice.?We need prophylactic antibiotics and antifungals for high-risk patients like AML.

Neuroblastoma in Saudi Children: A Single Center Experience (2006-2014)

Introduction: Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in childhood and survival rate has improved during the last few decades. Only a few studies, related to Neuroblastoma in Saudi Arabian children, have been performed. We report epidemiologic data and our clinical experience from the department of Pediatric Hematology Oncology (PHO), King Fahad Medical City (KFMC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Method: A retrospective observational study of all patients, with diagnosis of Neuroblastoma, who attended PHO-KFMC from July 2006 to June 2014 was performed. The survival periods (overall survival and disease-free survival) and the final outcomes for patients treated and followed at KFMC were recorded. The survival data were statistically correlated with the clinical, pathological and biological features of patients and tumors and compared to national and international cohorts. Results: Eight-year data were available for the 42 patients of which 22 (52.4%) were male and 20 (47.6%) were females. Age at diagnosis ranged 0 - 91 months with a mean and median of 26.3 and 18.5 months respectively. 16 (38.1%) patients were under one year and 26 (61.9%) above 1 year of age. The event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 66.5% and 71.5% respectively. EFS and OS among those who were <1 year age at presentation was 75% and 82%, whereas ≥1 yr age group had 59% and 62% survival rates respectively. Patients with tumors in the adrenal had considerably lower EFS (59%) and OS (63%);in comparison to patients with tumors sites other than the adrenal who had EFS and OS of 85% and 89% respectively. Both EFS and OS survival rates at the end of follow-up interval were 100.0%, in the low and intermediate risk groups. In contrast, patients in the high risk group had EFS and OS rates of 44% and 48% respectively. This difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our results are very encouraging and comparable with known published international cohorts
