The two-electron oxygen reduction reaction(2e^(−)-ORR)can be exploited for green production of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)),but it still suffers from low selectivity in an acidic electrolyte when using non-noble metal ***,inspired by biology,we demonstrate a strategy that exploits the micellization of surfactant molecules to promote the H_(2)O_(2)selectivity of a low-cost carbon black catalyst in strong acid *** surfactants near the electrode surface increase the oxygen solubility and transportation,and they provide a shielding effect that displaces protons from the electric double layer(eDL).Compared with the case of a pure acidic electrolyte,we find that,when a small number of surfactant molecules were added to the acid,the H_(2)O_(2)Faradaic efficiency(Fe)was improved from 12%to 95%H_(2)O_(2)under 200 mA cm^(−2),suggesting an 8-fold *** in situ surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SeRS)and optical microscopy(OM)studies suggest that,while the added surfactant reduces the electrode’s hydrophobicity,its micelle formation could promote the O_(2) gas transport and its hydrophobic tail could displace local protons under applied negative potentials during catalysis,which are responsible for the improved H_(2)O_(2)selectivity in strong acids.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine peak torque(PT),mean power(MP),electromyographic(eMG)amplitude,mechanomyographic(MMG)amplitude,and neuromuscular efficiency from eMG and MMG amplitude(NMe_(eMG)and NMe_(MMG),respectively)across the velocity spectrum in children versus *** Seventeen children(n=8 males,n=9 females)and 22 adolescents(n=11 males,n=11 females)*** completed maximal concentric isokinetic leg extensions at 60,120,180,240 and 300°/***,MP,eMG amplitude,and MMG amplitude were quantified during all muscle ***_(eMG)and NMe_(MMG)were quantified by expressing PT relative to eMG and MMG amplitude,respectively,for each muscle *** PT,MP,NMe_(eMG),and NMe_(MMG)were greater for the adolescents than the children collapsed across sex and veloc-ity(P≤0.021).There were no significant differences for eMG amplitude(P≥0.051),while MMG amplitude increased significantly from 60 to 240°/s(Pen decreased significantly from 240 to 300°/s(Perall,regardless of velocity,the expression of PT relative to eMG and MMG amplitude(NMe_(eMG)and NMe_(MMG),respectively),in conjunction with measurements of torque and power production,may provide practitioners a unique method of examining growth and development-related augmentations in neuromuscular function during dynamic movements.

We develop and use a novel mixed-precision weighted essentially non-oscillatory(WeNO)method for solving the Teukolsky equation,which arises when modeling perturbations of Kerr black *** show that WeNO methods outperform higher-order finite-difference methods,standard in the discretization of the Teukolsky equation,due to the need to add dissipation for stability purposes in the *** particular,as the WeNO scheme uses no additional dissipation,it is well suited for scenarios requiring long-time evolution such as the study of price tails and gravitational wave emission from extreme mass ratio *** the mixed-precision approach,the expensive computation of the WeNO weights is performed in reduced floating-point precision that results in a significant speedup factor of≈*** addition,we use state-of-the-art Nvidia general-purpose graphics processing units and cluster parallelism to further accelerate the WeNO *** optimized WeNO solver can be used to quickly generate accurate results of significance in the field of black hole and gravitational wave *** apply our solver to study the behavior of the Aretakis charge—a conserved quantity,that if detected by a gravitational wave observatory like LIGO/Virgo would prove the existence of extremal black holes.

Autism spectrum disorder is classified as a spectrum of neurodevelopmental disorders with an unknown definitive *** with autism spectrum disorder show deficits in a variety of areas including cognition,memory,attention,emotion recognition,and social *** no definitive treatment or cure,the main interventions for individuals with autism spectrum disorder are based on behavioral ***,noninvasive brain modulation techniques including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation,intermittent theta burst stimulation,continuous theta burst stimulation,and transcranial direct current stimulation have been studied for their therapeutic properties of modifying neuroplasticity,particularly in individuals with autism spectrum *** evidence from small cohort studies,pilot studies,and clinical trials suggests that the various noninvasive brain stimulation techniques have therapeutic benefits for treating both behavioral and cognitive manifestations of autism spectrum ***,little data is available for quantifying the clinical significance of these findings as well as the long-term outcomes of individuals with autism spectrum disorder who underwent transcranial *** objective of this review is to highlight the most recent advancements in the application of noninvasive brain modulation technology in individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

Surgical management of facial dog bite trauma:A contemporary perspective and review

Objective:To perform a review evaluating management of and complications stemming from dog bite trauma sustained to the head and neck over the past *** Sources:PubMed and Cochrane ***:The authors searched the PubMed and Cochrane Library databases for relevant published literature.A total of 12 peer-reviewed canine-exclusive series inclusive of 1384 patient cases describing facial dog bite trauma met inclusion *** including fractures,lacerations,contusions,and other soft-tissue injuries were *** related to clinical course and management,operating room requirements,and antibiotic usage were compiled and *** trauma and surgical management complications were also ***:75.5%of patients sustaining dog bites required surgical *** these patients,7.8%suffered from postsurgical complications,including hypertrophic scarring(4.3%),postoperative infection(0.8%),or nerve deficits and persistent paresthesias(0.8%).Prophylactic antibiotics were administered to 44.3%of patients treated for facial dog bites and the overall infection rate was 5.6%.Concomitant fracture was present in 1.0%of ***:Primary closure,often in the OR may be necessary,with few cases requiring grafts or *** should be aware that the most common complication is hypertrophic *** research is needed to elucidate the role of prophylactic antibiotics.

The relationship between reactive oxygen and nitrogen species(ROS-RNS)secretion and the concomitant biocorrosion of degradable magnesium(Mg)materials is poorly *** found that Mg foils implanted short term in vivo(24 h)displayed large amounts of proinflammatory F4/80+/iNOS+macrophages at the *** sought to investigate the interplay between biodegrading Mg materials(98.6%Mg,AZ31&AZ61)and macrophages(RAW 264.7)stimulated with lipopolysaccharide(RAW 264.7^(LPS))to induce ROS-RNS *** test how these proinflammatory ROS-RNS secreting cells interact with Mg corrosion in vitro,Mg and AZ61 discs were suspended approximately 2 mm above a monolayer of RAW 264.7 cells,either with or without ^(LPS).The surfaces of both materials showed acute(24 h)changes when incubated in the proinflammatory RAW 264.7^(LPS) *** discs incubated with RAW 264.7^(LPS) macrophages showed greater corrosion pitting,while AZ61 showed morphological and elemental bulk product changes via scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SeM-eDX).X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis showed a reduction in the Ca/P ratio of the surface products for AZ61 disc incubated with RAW 264.7^(LPS),but not the Mg ***,RAW 264.7^(LPS) macrophages were found to be more viable in the acute biodegradative environment generated by Mg materials,as demonstrated by calcein-AM and cleaved(active)caspase-3 staining(CC3).^(LPS) stimulation caused an increase in ROS-RNS,and a decrease in antioxidant peroxidase *** and AZ61 were found to change this ROS-RNS balance,independently of physiological antioxidant *** findings highlight the complexity of the cellular driven acute inflammatory responses to different biodegradable Mg,and how it can potentially affect performance of these materials.

Regional and National Trends of Adult Living Donor Liver Transplantation in the United States Over the Last Two Decades

Background and Aims:Liver organ shortage remains a major health burden in the US,with more patients being waitlisted than the number of liver transplants(LTs)*** study investigated US national and regional trends in living donor LT(LDLT)and identified factors associated with recipient ***:We retrospectively analyzed LDLT recipients and donors from the United Network Organ Sharing/Organ Procurement Transplant Network database from 1998 until 2019 for clinical characteristics,demographic differences,and survival *** and regional trends in LDLT,recipient outcomes,and predictors of survival were ***:Of the 223,571 candidates listed for an LT,57.5%received an organ,of which only 4.2%were *** adult LDLTs first peaked at 412 in 2001 but experienced a significant decline to 168 by *** then gradually increased to 445 in *** 2 had the highest LDLT numbers(n=919),while region 1 had the highest proportion(11.1%).Overall,post-LT mortality was 21.4%among LDLT ***-LDLT survival rates after 1-,5-,and 10-years were 92%,87%,and 70%,*** analysis(2004–2019)showed that patients undergoing LDLT in recent years had lower mortality than in earlier years(hazard ratio=0.81,95%confidence interval=0.75–0.88).Conclusions:Following a substantial decline after a peak in 2001,the number of adult LDLTs steadily increased from 2011 to ***,LDLTs still constitute the minority of the transplant pool in the *** policies to increase the use of LDLTs,particularly in regions of high organ demand,should be implemented.
