In this study,driven by ERa. rea.a.ysis da.a.the Wea.her Resea.ch a.d Foreca.ting(WRF)version 4.0 wa. used to investiga.e the ea.twa.d propa.a.ion of the Ma.den-Julia. oscilla.ion(MJO)in the tropica. a.mosphere during december-Februa.y(dJF)of 2007/*** experiment with 11 cumulus pa.a.eterization schemes respectively shows tha. the Grell 3d scheme is one of severa. worse ones in describing MJO *** a.dition,still by use of the Grell 3d scheme,four nudging a.simila.ion experiments for wa.er va.or in a.l model vertica. la.ers(Ndg_a.l),lower la.ers(Ndg_low),middle la.ers(Ndg_mid),a.d upper la.ers(Ndg_upp)were *** is found tha. when the wa.er va.or in the model a.proa.hes to the observed va.ue,the model performa.ce for MJO a.tivities is improved *** the four nudging simula.ions,Ndg_a.l certa.nly performs *** Ndg_mid is importa.t for the MJO-filtered profiles rela.ed to moisture,Ndg_low a.d Ndg_upp exhibit superiority to Ndg_mid in simula.ing MJO ea.twa.d ***_low ha. a.va.ta.es when MJO fea.ures a.e represented by zona. wind a. 850 hPa.a.d precipita.ion beca.se the lower-level MJO-filtered moisture is conducive to the existence of lower-level condensa.iona. hea.ing to the ea.t of the MJO convective ***_upp performs better when describing the MJO ea.twa.d propa.a.ion fea.ures by outgoing longwa.e ra.ia.ion(OLR)since it ca. ca.ture the moisture a.d cloud top tempera.ure of deep convection a.socia.ed with MJO,a. well a. front Wa.ker *** results suggest tha. the lower-level moisture is more importa.t in regula.ing the MJO ea.twa.d propa.a.ion,a.d the observed ma.imum MJO-filtered moisture in the middle troposphere might be a.phenomenon a.compa.ying the MJO deep convection,but not a.fa.tor controlling its ea.twa.d propa.a.ion.
