ABSTRACT The third precipitation episode of China＇s great snowstorms of 2008 was analyzed using station observations and ECMWF six-hourly data. The variation of the shape of the upper-level subtropical jet played an important role in the rainfall over south- ern China. With the eastward movement of the trough, the jet shape changed from two straight jets to a tilting jet over China and then it moved southward. With these variations, the south-north movement of ascending flow and precipitation area over southern China occurred.

The static balance and the geostrophic balance are the common balances in *** the synoptic systems and most of the mesoscale systems satisfy the above two ***,due to the strong convection and non-geostrophic feature,many mesoscale systems usually present as static imbalance,and the quasi-geostrophic approximation is no longer *** paper tried to find out a kind of balance that exists for mesoscale convective *** do this,the concrete mathematics definitions for balance and imbalance equations were ***,it is proposed that the new balance equation should include the divergence,vorticity,and vertical motion simultaneously,and the helicity equation was a good choice for the ***,the mesoscale balance and imbalance equations were constructed,as well as a new balance model that was based on the helicity,horizontal divergence,vertical vorticity,continuity,and thermal dynamic equations under same ***,the corresponding potential vorticity（PV）inversion technique was *** was pointed out that by using the PV conservation and the potential temperature conservation,the flows of the mesoscale balance model can be deduced,and their comparison with the real fields would give the degree of the imbalance.

By using ERA-Interim data, the temperature anomaly of the freezing rain and snowstorm event that occurred from Ii to 22 January 2008 in southern China was analyzed. During this period, diabatic heating and temperature advection caused the temperature to increase anomalously over the Tibetan Plateau. The anomalously high temperature moving from the Tibetan Plateau to southern Chin.a played several roles. First, the upper-level subtropical jet over China was split into two parts in the north-south direction, which affected the development of freezing rain in southern China; second, a ridge formed because of the warmer air moving to China, which hindered the transport of cold air from its upstream blocking high, forced the cold air to gather behind the ridge, and facilitated the severe cold air outbreak in the later period of the event; third, an inversion layer formed because of the lower-level cold air and upper-level warmer air over southern China, which was conducive to the development of the event over southern China; and finally, because of the temperature anomaly, opposite wind directions appeared at the lower levels （below 700 hPa）, which helped transport of warm-moist and cold-dry air to the event area.

The local features of transient kinetic energy and available potential energy were investigated using ECMWF （European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts） Interim Reanalysis data for the stratospheric sudden warming （SSW） event of January 2009. The Western Europe high plays important roles in the propagation of the energy from North America to Eurasian. When the Western Europe high appeared and shifted eastward, energy conversions increased and energy propagated from North America to Eurasian as a form of interaction energy flow. The baroclinic conversion between transient-eddy kinetic energy （Ke） and transient-eddy available potential energy （Ae） and the horizontal advection of geopotential height were approximately one order of magnitude less than Ke and Ae generation terms. So, these terms were less important to this SSW event.

The water vapor transport around the Tibetan Plateau（TP） and its effect on the rainfall in the Yangtze River valley（YRV） in summer are investigated by decomposing the moisture transport into rotational and divergent *** on the ERA-Interim and PREC/L（Precipitation Reconstruction over Land） data from 1985 to 2014,the vertically integrated features of the two components are *** results show that the divergent part dominates the western TP while the rotational part dominates the rest of the TP,implying that moisture may be mostly locally gathered in the western TP but could be advected to/from elsewhere over the rest of the *** divergent and rotational moisture fluxes exhibit great temporal variability along the southern periphery of the TP,showing sensitivity of water vapor to the steep topography *** analysis reveals that it is over the southeastern corner of the TP and to its south that a significant correlation between rotational zonal moisture transport and summer rainfall in the YRV appears,suggesting that the southeastern corner of the TP may serve as a moisture transport bridge between the South Asian（Indian） monsoon and the East Asian *** composite analysis indicates that anomalous eastward（westward） zonal water vapor transport from the South Asian monsoon via the southeastern corner of the TP favors more（less） precipitation in the YRV in summer.

利用欧洲中期预报中心再分析数据(ERA-Interim)分析了2014年2月9日、2015年12月5日、2016年1月20日和2018年1月24日高空急流扰动动能对暴雪的影响。在暴雪发生的过程中,通常伴有高空急流的存在。高空急流一方面维持自身的存在,另一方面其引起的垂直运动有利于暴雪的发展。垂直运动的上升支有两个方面的作用,一个是将低层暖湿空气输送到高层,为暴雪提供源源不断的水汽,另一个是将急流中的扰动动能向下输送到低层冷暖气流交汇区域,该区域也是水平风切变较大的区域,为该区域提供扰动动能,进一步促进暴雪的发生和发展。

A clear and interesting image of local total energy anomaly(EA) is depicted for a heavy rainfall event in this *** the convection development, it exhibits a positive local EA, implying local total energy(TE) experiences heaping up to prepare for the future system development. As the convection grows, it transforms into an opposite spatial modality with negative EA dominant, which means that the local TE is consumed to feed the convection growth in the middle and lower levels. The local total EA has consistent variation regular in intensity with severe weather system evolution. By utilizing the local TE budget equation in variable density fluid, the flux divergence of energy and its components are investigated, which could account for the local TE variation better. To relax the restriction and complexity introduced by identifying sporadic and alternative positive/negative signals of EA, the method taking the absolute-value operator on energy flux divergence is used to further simplify analyses. The derived characteristic signal of absolute EA is clearer and cleaner than ***, the EA could be illustrated based on the active degree of energy supply/consumption in a generalized sense whatever positive or negative anomaly should be it, which could be used easily to identify and even predict the system development for operational application. Note that, although two sets of methodologies are used to define EA herein, they play absolutely different roles in nature throughout the whole context. For example, the taking-perturbation method provides a diagnostic tool to portray a preliminary sketch and to give sufficient necessity of this research, while tendency equation of local TE illuminates more predictive sense and accounts for future local EA related to following system evolution. Therefore, the latter could be a more effective tool to routine usage.

选取我国南方4次暴雪过程,利用欧洲中期天气预报中心ERA-Interim再分析资料,从准地转涡度方程出发,推导出扰动位涡拟能方程,从波动的角度研究暴雪期间高空槽的发展。结果表明,高空槽的出现对暴雪的发生发展极为重要,波流相互作用对高空槽的移动具有明显影响,槽底和槽前分别出现正效应和负效应,使得槽底出现正变高,槽前出现负变高,从而使得槽向东移动或者横槽转竖,有利于冷空气向南爆发和我国南方暴雪的产生。

应用国家气候中心气候模式(BCC_CSM1.1)CMIP5和AMIP试验结果对模式模拟南亚高压的能力进行了评估。结果表明,BCC_CSM1.1模式对作为北半球高层大气环流活动中心的南亚高压有较好的模拟能力。它能够模拟出南亚高压的气候平均状态、季节变化,对南亚高压脊线的位置、高压中心的位置及其季节变化也有较好的模拟。模式存在的主要问题是高度场和南亚高压强度的模拟结果较观测明显偏弱;模拟的脊线位置在冬半年要比观测略偏南;模拟的南亚高压中心在某些月份与观测有出入,例如,5月南亚高压中心的模拟较观测偏西,夏季南亚高压的双中心的位置与实际也略有差异;模拟的南亚高压强度偏低与多种因素有关。比较耦合模式与单独大气模式模拟的南亚高压强度发现,在给定观测海温的条件下,模拟的误差减小13%~15%。因此可以认为耦合模式的误差大部分来自大气分量。海洋模拟的改进虽然对总体的模拟结果有所改进但贡献不大;比较T106和T42两种分辨率的模式对南亚高压进行模拟结果发现,分辨率的提高明显减小了南亚高压及全球100 h Pa位势高度场的模拟误差。为验证地形强迫对模拟结果的影响,进行了改变青藏高原地形高度的试验,结果表明青藏高原地形高度对南亚高压的强度有明显的影响,高原高度升高将会促使南亚高压及更大范围的高层位势高度场增强。因此,正确给定高原地形这一模式的下边界条件,对模拟结果的改进有重要作用。
