Airfoil friction drag reduction based on grid-type and super-dense array plasma actuators

To improve the cruise flight performance of aircraft, two new configurations of plasma actuators(grid-type and super-dense array) were investigated to reduce the turbulent skin friction drag of a low-speed airfoil. The induced jet characteristics of the two actuators in quiescent air were diagnosed with high-speed particle image velocimetry(PIV), and their drag reduction efficiencies were examined under different operating conditions in a wind tunnel. The results showed that the grid-type plasma actuator was capable of producing a wall-normal jet array(peak magnitude: 1.07 m/s) similar to that generated in a micro-blowing technique, while the superdense array plasma actuator created a wavy wall-parallel jet(magnitude: 0.94 m/s) due to the discrete spanwise electrostatic forces. Under a comparable electrical power consumption level,the super-dense array plasma actuator array significantly outperformed the grid-type configuration,reducing the total airfoil friction drag by approximately 22% at a free-stream velocity of 20 m/*** magnitude of drag reduction was proportional to the dimensionless jet velocity ratio(r), and a threshold r = 0.014 existed under which little impact on airfoil drag could be discerned.

We explore the possibility that domain wall networks generate the stochastic gravitational wave background(SGWB) observed as a strong common power-law process in the Data Release-2 of Parkes Pulsar Timing Array. We find that a broad range of parameters, specifically wall tension around σ_(DW)^(29-414 TeV)^(3) and wall-decay temperature within T_(d) ~ 20-257 MeV, can explain this phenomenon at a 68% credible level. Meanwhile, the same parameters could ease the Hubble tension if particles from these domain wall networks decay into dark radiation. We establish a direct analytical relationship, ΩGW(f_(p), T_(0))h^(2)~ Ω_(rad)h^(2)(Ω_νΩN_(eff))^(2),to illustrate this coincidence, underlining its importance in the underlying physics and potential applicability to a wider range of models and data. Conversely, if the common power-law process is not attributed to domain wall networks, our findings impose tight limits on the wall tension and decay temperature.

The chemical activation of various precursors is effective for creating additional closed pores in hard carbons for sodium ***,the formation mechanism of closed pores under the influence of pore-forming agents is not well ***,an effective chemical activation followed by a high-temperature self-healing strategy is employed to generate interconnected closed pores in lignin-derived hard carbon(HCs).By systematic experimental design combined with electron paramagnetic res-onance spectroscopy,it can be found that the content of free radicals in the carbon matrix influences the closure of open pores at high *** high activation temperature(>700 C)leads to a low free radical concentration,making it difficult to achieve self-healing of open pores at high *** activation at 700°C,a balance between pore making and self-healing is achieved in the final hard carbon.A large number of free radicals triggers rapid growth and aggregation of carbon microcrys-tals,blocking pre-formed open micropores and creating additional interconnected closed pores in as-obtained hard *** a result,the optimized carbon anode(LK-700-1300)delivers a high reversible capacity of 330.8 mA h g^(-1) at 0.03 A g^(-1),which is an increase of 86 mA h g^(-1) compared to the pristine lignin-derived carbon anode(L-700-1300),and exhibits a good rate performance(202.1 mA h g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1)).This work provides a universal and effective guidance for tuning closed pores of hard carbons from otherprecursors.

Prediction of discharge in a tidal river using the LSTM-based sequence-to-sequence models

The complexity of river-tide interaction poses a significant challenge in predicting discharge in tidal *** short-term memory(LSTM)networks excel in processing and predicting crucial events with extended intervals and time delays in time series ***,the sequence-to-sequence(Seq2Seq)model,known for handling temporal relationships,adapting to variable-length sequences,effectively capturing historical information,and accommodating various influencing factors,emerges as a robust and flexible tool in discharge *** this study,we introduce the application of LSTM-based Seq2Seq models for the first time in forecasting the discharge of a tidal reach of the Changjiang River(Yangtze River)*** study focuses on discharge forecasting using three key input characteristics:flow velocity,water level,and discharge,which means the structure of multiple input and single output is *** experiment used the discharge data of the whole year of 2020,of which the first 80%is used as the training set,and the last 20%is used as the test *** means that the data covers different tidal cycles,which helps to test the forecasting effect of different models in different tidal cycles and different *** experimental results indicate that the proposed models demonstrate advantages in long-term,mid-term,and short-term discharge *** Seq2Seq models improved by 6%-60%and 5%-20%of the relative standard deviation compared to the harmonic analysis models and improved back propagation neural network models in discharge prediction,*** addition,the relative accuracy of the Seq2Seq model is 1%to 3%higher than that of the LSTM *** assessment of the prediction errors shows that the Seq2Seq models are insensitive to the forecast lead time and they can capture characteristic values such as maximum flood tide flow and maximum ebb tide flow in the tidal cycle *** indicates the significance of the Seq2Seq models.

suspended vegetation in rivers,lakes,reservoirs and canals can change flow structure,which will in turn affect the sediment transport and cause the variation of water ecological *** order to study the characteristics of bend flow through suspended vegetation,three-dimensional numerical simulations are carried out by using the multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann method(MRT-LBM).The drag force induced by vegetation is added in the velocity correction in the equilibrium distribution and a hybrid format combined bounce and specular reflection scheme is applied in the solid-fluid *** the validation of this model,six cases are designed to conduct the numerical simulations according to the root depth and the arrangement of *** simulated results show that the suspended vegetation can redistribute the flow structure in curved open *** the arrangement of suspended vegetation,the main flow moves to the side without vegetation,and the distribution of velocity tends to be balanced when vegetation is arranged on the entire cross section,the range of circulating current is reduced from the whole cross section to the local position without vegetation,however,the circulating current can still exist in the curve where the suspended vegetation enters less than half of the water *** addition,it can also be concluded that the suspended vegetation can affect the lateral gradient of flow velocity,and the bed shear stress in the curved channel.
