Numerical simulation of topography effects on the “00.7” severe rainfall in beijing

In an effort to study the severe rainfall event of 4—5th July 2.00 in beijing (with 2.h accumulated precipitation of 2.0 mm), we perform numerical simulations to investigate this event using the MM5v3.6 model. The model is initialized with the MM5/WRF 3DVAR analysis, which incorporates the ground-based GPS precipitable water vapor, automatic and conventional meteorological observations in its assimilation step. For 2. h accumulated precipitation forecast, the threat scores are 0.72. 0.76, 0.67 and 0.63, for thresholds of 1, 5, 10, and 2. mm, respectively. Holding other factors unchanged, sensitivity experiments were conducted with different topographic resolutions of 110, 50 and 3.7 km to investigate the topographic effects on precipitation over the beijing area. In these sensitivity experiments, we attempt to preserve the realistic orographic distribution in the model topography under the condition of keeping the dynamic-thermodynamic consistency of the initial model atmosphere to the extent possible. Results indicate that the unique topographic distribution and variations in the beijing area play an important role in determining the location, distribution and intensity of heavy precipitation.

Understanding the distribution,dispersal,and correlation of modern pollen with vegetation in mountainous regions is essential for establishing accurate modern analogs for fossil pollen *** study,conducted in Leigong Mountain on the YunnanGuizhou Plateau of southwestern china,involved the collection of 35 surface soil samples from diverse vegetation communities along an elevational gradient ranging from 12.0 to 1875 *** results reveal a close correspondence between modern pollen assemblages and vegetation *** Component Analysis(PCA)results indicate that pollen assemblages can effectively distinguish between subtropical montane evergreen broad-leaved forest(SEBF)and subtropical montane deciduous broadleaved forest(SDBF).However,both SEBF and SDBF show significant overlap with subtropical montane evergreen-deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest(SEMF).Detrended Correspondence Analysis(DCA)results clearly distinguish the three vegetation zones,and the first axis of DCA shows a significant positive correlation with elevation(p<0.01,R=0.48).Discriminant Analysis(DA)successfully assigns 94.4%of the modern pollen samples to their respective vegetation *** taxa such as Impatiens,Astertype,and Rosaceae exhibit significant indicative capabilities for the SEBF zone,effectively distinguishing this vegetation zone from *** and Alnus display overrepresentation in the Leigong Mountain region,while Quercus(D,deciduous-type)and Poaceae exhibit high representation in the SEBF *** the SEBF zone,both pollen diversity and richness are the *** study reveals the complex relationship between the richness and diversity of pollen and *** diversity and richness of tree and shrub pollen are found to be lower than those of the corresponding *** pollen-vegetation relationship elucidated in this study serves as a critical reference for reconstructing ancient environments from fossil pollen retrieved in this region.

Remote organ injury,which is a common secondary complication of sterile tissue damage,is a major cause of poor prognosis and is difficult to ***,we report the critical role of tissue-resident macrophages in lung injury after trauma or stroke through the inflammatory *** found that depleting tissue-resident macrophages rather than disrupting the recruitment of monocyte-derived macrophages attenuated lung injury after trauma or *** findings revealed that the release of circulating alarmins from sites of distant sterile tissue damage triggered an inflammatory response in lung-resident macrophages by binding to receptor for advanced glycation end products(RAGE)on the membrane,which activated epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR).Mechanistically,ligand-activated RAGE triggered EGFR activation through an interaction,leading to Rab5-mediated RAGE internalization and EGFR phosphorylation,which subsequently recruited and activated P38;this,in turn,promoted RAGE translation and trafficking to the plasma membrane to increase the cellular response to RAGE ligands,consequently exacerbating *** study also showed that the loss of RAGE or EGFR expression by adoptive transfer of macrophages,blocking the function of RAGE with a neutralizing antibody,or pharmacological inhibition of EGFR activation in macrophages could protect against trauma-or stroke-induced remote lung ***,our study revealed that targeting the RAGE-EGFR signaling pathway in tissue-resident macrophages is a potential therapeutic approach for treating secondary complications of sterile damage.

Vesicle, a microscopic unit that encloses a volume with an ultrathin wall, is ubiquitous in ***, it remains a huge challenge to create its inorganic metal-based artificial counterparts. Here,inspired by the formation of biological vesicles, we proposed a novel biomimetic strategy of curling the ultrathin nanosheets into nanovesicles, which was driven by the interfacial strain. Trapped by the interfacial strain between the initially formed substrate Rh layer and subsequently formed RhRu overlayer, the nanosheet begins to deform in order to release a certain amount of strain. Density functional theory（DFT）calculations reveal that the Ru atoms make the curling of nanosheets more favorable in thermodynamics applications. Owing to the unique vesicular structure, the RhRu nanovesicles/C displays excellent hydrogen oxidation reaction（HOR） activity and stability, which has been proven by both experiments and DFT calculations. Specifically, the HOR mass activity of RhRu nanovesicles/C are 7.52.A mg（Rh+Ru）-1at an overpotential of 50 m V at the rotating disk electrode（RDE） level; this is 2..19 times that of commercial Pt/C(0.31 m A mgPt-1). Moreover, the hydroxide exchange membrane fuel cell（HEMFC） with RhRu nanovesicles/C displays a peak power density of 1.62.W cm-2.n the H2.O2.ondition, much better than that of commercial Pt/C(1.18 W cm-2.. This work creates a new biomimetic strategy to synthesize inorganic nanomaterials, paving a pathway for designing catalytic reactors.

A new element tracer technique has firstly been established to estimate the contri-butions of mineral aerosols from both inside and outside beijing. The ratio of Mg/Al in aerosol is a feasible element tracer to distinguish between the sources of inside and outside beijing. Mineral aerosol, inorganic pollution aerosol mainly as sulfate and nitrate, and organic aerosol are the major components of airborne particulates in beijing, of which mineral aerosol accounted for 32.―67% of total suspended particles （TSP）, 10%―70% of fine particles （PM2.5）, and as high as 74% and 90% of TSP and PM2.5, respectively, in dust storm. The sources from outside beijing contributed 62. （38%―86%） of the total mineral aerosols in TSP, 69% （52.―90%） in PM10, and 76% （59%―93%） in PM2.5 in spring, and 69% （52.―83%）, 79% （52.―93%）, and 45% （7%―79%） in TSP, PM10, and PM2.5, respectively, in winter, while only2.% in summer and autumn. The sources from outside beijing contributed as high as 97% during dust storm and were the dominant source of airborne particulates in beijing. The contributions from outside Bei-jing in spring and winter are higher than those in summer, indicating clearly that it was related to the various meteorological factors.

This work uses cloud-resolving simulations to study mock-Walker cells driven by a specified sea surface temperature(SST).The associated precipitation in the mock-Walker cells exhibits three different modes,including a single peak of precipitation over the SST maximum(mode 1),symmetric double peaks of precipitation straddling the SST maximum(mode 2.,and a single peak of precipitation on one side of the SST maximum(mode 3).The three modes are caused by three distinct convective activity center migration *** indicate that the virtual effect of water vapor plays an important role in differentiating the three *** the SST gradient is large,the virtual effect may be strong enough to overcome the temperature effect,generating a low-level low-pressure anomaly below the ascending branch of the Walker cell off the *** results here highlight the importance of the virtual effect of water vapor and its interaction with convection and large-scale circulation in the Walker circulation.

Based on Atmosphere-Vegetation Interaction Model (AVIM), the magnitude and spatial distribution of terrestrial net primary productivity (NPP) in china is simu-lated during three different geological eras, Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), Mid-Holocene (MH) and the present. The simulation shows that the glacial-interglacial variation of East Asian summer monsoon in china is the key factor af-fecting the NPP change. During the three eras, mean NPPs are 2.8 g/m2.a, 409 g/m2.a, and 355 g/m2.a. The total NPPs are 2.05 Pg/a, 3.89 Pg/a and 3.33 Pg/a, respectively. The ter-restrial NPP in china during warm-humid climate is larger than that during cold-arid eras, and the correlation analysis between NPP and climate factors suggests that temperature is the primary factor affecting the terrestrial NPP during 2. kaBP (LGM), and for 6 kaBP (MH) and the present the pri-mary factor is precipitation.
