Major Advances in the Study of the Precambrian Geology and Metallogenesis of the North China Craton:A Review

The North China Craton （NCC） is one of the most ancient cratons in the world and records a complex geological evolution since the early Precambrian. In addition to recording major geological events similar to those of other cratons, the NCC also exhibits some unique features such as multi- stage cratonization （late Archaean and Palaeoproterozoic） and long-term rifting during the Meso- Neoproterozoic. The NCC thus provides one of the best examples to address secular changes in geological history and metallogenic epochs in the evolving Earth. We summarize the major geological events and metallogenic systems of the NCC, so that the evolutionary patterns of the NCC can provide a better understanding of the Precambrian NCC and facilitate comparison of the NCC with other ancient continental blocks globally. The NCC experienced three major tectonic cycles during the Precambrian：（1） Neoarchaean crustal growth and stabilization; （2） Palaeoproterozoic rifting-subduction-accretion-collision with imprints of the Great Oxidation Event and （3） Meso-Neoproterozoic multi-stage rifting. A transition from primitive- to modern-style plate tectonics occurred during the early Precambrian to late Proterozoic and is evidenced by the major geological events. Accompanying these major geological events, three major metallogenic systems are identified：（1） the Archaean banded iron formation system; （2） Palaeoproterozoic Cu-Pb-Zn and Mg-B systems and （3） a Mesoproterozoic rare earth element-Fe- Pb-Zn system. The ore-deposit types in each of these metallogenic systems show distinct characteristics and tectonic affinities.

The interplay between soft law and hard law and its implications for global marine fisheries governance:A case study of IUU fishing

International soft law is not legally binding,but nevertheless it embodies mainstream values and influences the formation of hard law in global *** fisheries have become important arenas of global governance,in which developing states are crucial *** interactions between soft law and hard law in global marine fisheries can be mainly summarized as follows:soft law can be the precursor for hard law and be implicitly introduced into hard law to enhance normativity;hard law can also be incorporated into soft *** paper explores the IUU fishing case to illustrate the significant role of soft law on international fisheries law and identify gaps in global marine fisheries *** development of international instruments to combat IUU fishing within FAO undergoes a process from voluntary to legally binding with the engagement and promotion of some developed states for their *** IUU fishing concept is defective in its drafting as well as in practical application and indicates the value of emphasizing conservation over economic and social development,which is contrary to the principle of sustainable development and fails to meet the requirements of the developing *** paper suggests to fill this gap by converting existing values in soft law to foster fishing rules that benefit all states and provide some insights towards this direction.

Late Mesoarchean crust growth event： evidence from the ca. 2.8 Ga granodioritic gneisses of the Xiaoqinling area, southern North China Craton

Recently, more attention has been paid to Precambrian magma events and crustal growth of the North China Craton(NCC), accompanying with controversy in activity stages and dynamic mechanism. In this study, we report the Archean(2802 ± 13 Ma) granodioritic gneisses in the Taihua Complex from the Xiaoqinling area, located in the southern margin of the NCC. The zircon Lu–Hf isotope analysis of the rocks showed ^(176)Hf/^(177)Hf ratios of0.280977–0.281228, corresponding to ε_(Hf)(t) values ranging from-3.5 to +6.6, and two–stage Hf model ages varying from 2836 to 3409 Ma. It was confirmed that late Mesoarchean(2.9–2.8 Ga) juvenile crust made contribution to the source material of these ca. 2.8 Ga granodioritic gneisses in the Xiaoqinling area. The whole rock geochemical data indicate that the granodioritic gneisses are high-K calc-alkaline series, probably generated at relatively high pressure and temperature, and formed under the continental arc setting. Statistically, we conclude that the magmatic activities during 2.9–2.7 Ga may represent the most intense crustal growth events in the NCC and these Archean rocks at different locations in southern NCC underwent a similar crustal evolution history.

The Xiamaling Formation of 1.4–1.35 Ga in Jixian Section and adjoining areas represents a unique Ectasian Period(Mesoproterozoic)sedimentary sequence in the North China Craton(NCC).Studies carried out during the last decade have contributed significantly in improving our understanding about the Ectasian sedimentation tectonics in the NCC during this transitional interval between the breakup of Supercontinent Columbia and the assembly of *** present study reports,for the first time,tuffite beds interlayered with carbonaceous-siliceous slate-phyllite in the upper Baishugou Formation(western Henan Province),at the southern margin of *** LA-MC-ICPMS U-Pb geochronology of zircons from two tuffite samples has yielded almost identical ages of 1330±10 Ma(MSWD=0.43,N=38)and 1332±10 Ma(MSWD=0.90,N=24),that constrain a 1.33 Ga depositional age(Ectasian Period)for the Baishugou Formation.A close similarity in lithological characteristics and their respective superimposed lithostratigraphic relationships of the Baishugou and Xiamaling formations,underline a comparable depositional environment for *** high-precision geochronology data on the Baishugou Formation would stimulate a relook into the Meso-Neoproterozoic chronostratigraphic framework of the NCC,and further research would lead to a comprehensive understanding of the geological evolution of the NCC during Ectasian Period and its correlation with analogous global events.

Screening criteria of mRNA indicators for wound age estimation

Wound age estimation is a crucial and challenging problem in forensic *** mRNA is the most commonly used indicator for wound age estimation,screening criteria are *** the present study,the feasibility of screening criteria using mRNA to determine injury time based on the adenylate-uridylate-rich element(ARE)structure and gene ontology(GO)categories were evaluated.A total of 78 Sprague-Dawley male rats were contused and sampled at 4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32,36,40,44,and 48 h after inflicting *** candidate mRNAs were classified based on with or without ARE structure and GO category *** mRNA expression levels were detected using *** addition,the standard deviation(STD),mean deviation(MD),relative average deviation(d%),and coefficient of variation(CV)were calculated based on mRNA expression *** CV score(CVs)and the CV of CV(CV’CV)were calculated to measure ***,based on classic principles,the accuracy of combination of candidate mRNAs was assessed using discriminant analysis to construct a multivariate model for inferring wound *** results of homogeneity evaluation of each group based on CVs were consistent with the MD,STD,d%,and CV results,indicating the credibility of the evaluation results based on *** candidate mRNAs without ARE structure and classified as cellular component(CC)GO category(ARE-CC)had the highest CVs,showing the mRNAs with these characteristics are the most homogenous mRNAs and best suited for wound age *** highest accuracy was 91.0%when the mRNAs without ARE structure were used to infer the wound age based on the discrimination *** accuracy of mRNAs classified into CC or multiple function(MF)GO category was higher than mRNAs in the biological process(BP)*** all subgroups,the accuracy of the composite identification model of mRNA composition without ARE structure and classified as CC was higher than other *** mRNAs without ARE structure and belo

The Torbat-e-Heydariyeh andesitic rocks(THA)are part of the Cenozoic continental arc magmatic system of the northern branch of the Neotethys Ocean(NE Iran).Columnar jointing is the most significant feature of these rocks and they also show porphyritic,vitrophyric,and vitroglomeroporphyric ***,clinopyroxene,±orthopyroxene are the major mineral *** SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating yielded an age of 41.00±0.69 Ma for the rocks(Middle Eocene,Bartonian).Geochemically,they are of medium-to high-K calc-alkaline *** mantle-normalized diagrams exhibit enrichment in large ion lithophile elements(LILE),such as Cs and Rb,and also depleted in high field strength elements(HFSE)and heavy rare earth elements(HREE),with prominent negative anomalies of Ti,Nb,Y,and Yb,suggesting a tectonic setting of an active continental *** chondrite-normalized REE diagram displays enrichment of light rare earth elements(LREE;La_(N)/Yb_(N)=5.37-6.66)and small negative Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu^(*)of 0.69-0.78).Thorium enrichment implies the reaction between the mantle wedge and the melt of subducting oceanic slab,and/or subducting *** role of subducted sediments along with subducted oceanic lithosphere is evident in these magmatic rocks using Ba/La versus Th/Nd and Ba/Th versus La_(N)/Sm_(N)***ε_(Nd)(t)and(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)_(i)values vary between-0.1 to+0.2 and 0.70489 to 0.70501,respectively,and are compatible with parental melts from subduction of the lithospheric *** suggest that the THA rocks were produced by the partial melting of the metasomatized lithospheric mantle,which corresponds to slab break-off of the northward subducted Neotethys oceanic slab in an extensional *** hot asthenospheric mantle upwelling triggered by the Neotethys slab break-off would severely heat the physically mixed mantle wedge peridotite and therefore caused partial melting to produce the Middle Eocene volcanic rocks in NE Iran.

Neoproterozoic volcanic–sedimentary sequences of the southern Qinling belt,central China,were intruded by voluminous mafic *** ion mass spectrometry zircon U–Pb dating indicates that these dikes were emplaced at 650.8 ± 5.2 Ma,coeval with mafic rocks occurring at the northern margin of the Yangtze *** dikes are characterized by enrichment of large ion lithophile elements,high Ti contents(up to 3.73 wt%) and Nb/Ta ratios between 14.5 and 19.6,suggesting a mantle source of oceanic island basalt *** Sr/ Sr ratios show positive correlation with Si O contents and negative correlation with Zr/Nb ratios,implying that these rocks were affected by crustal contamination during the magma ascend and emplacement *** dikes have initial εNd values of +0.2 to +3.3,low Pb/ Pb ratios of 16.96–17.45,and moderate Sr/ Sr ratios of 0.7043–0.7076,likely pointing to the involvement of an enriched mantle *** mafic dikes and coeval mafic volcanic equivalents in the South Qinling and the northern Yangtze are hypothesized to be related with the prolonged breakup of the supercontinent Rodinia,suggesting that continental rifting lasted until ca.650 Ma.

The South Qinling terrain is located at the northern margin of the Yangtze *** volcanic-sedimentary sequences of the Yaolinghe Group play the most significant role in studying the tectono-magmatic evolution of the South *** on temporal and spatial geochemical variations the Yaolinghe Group can be divided into three volcanic *** lavas of cycle 1 crystallized at 847 ± 8 Ma and exhibit typical island arc basalt characteristics with enrichment of LILEs(Th,U) and LREEs,depletion of HFSEs(Nb,Ta,Zr,Hf,Ti) and homogeneous initial Nd/Nd ratios ranging from0.51162 to 0.51172 corresponding to initial ε values of+1.6 to +*** features suggest that they were derived from a depleted mantle source during a subduction *** rocks of cycle 2 show a complete lithological evolution from basalt through andesite to rhyolite without a significant gap of SiO *** formed between 731 ± 11 Ma and 768 ± 7 Ma and display trace element signatures similar to arc-volcanics with positive LILE and negative HFSE *** basalts have lower initialSr/Sr ratios from 0.7030 to 0.7052 and higher initial Nd/Nd ratios from 0.51172 to 0.51194 with positive initial ε values ranging from +0.9 to +5.3,whereas intercalated felsic rocks show lower initialNd/Nd ratios from 0.51150 to 0.51177 with initial ε values varying from-4.5 to +1.9,suggestive of metasomatic alteration of lithospheric mantle by slab-derived fluids/*** 3 lavas show undepleted HFSEs(Nb,Ta,Zr,Hf) and slightly enriched LILEs(Th,U) and Ti *** were generated in a rift-related setting between 80 Ma and 650 *** and geochemical evidence from lavas of the Yaolinghe Group suggest that the Panxi-Hannan arc system extended to northern South Qinling and the magmatism in the northern margin of the Yangtze block evolved from arc to rift magmatism during the Neoproterozoic.

The Awulale metallogenic belt(AMB)of the western Tianshan(NW China)includes Late Carboniferous(ca.320 Ma)ore-bearing volcanic rocks of the Dahalajunshan *** petrogenesis and tectonic setting of these volcanic rocks are important for the understanding of the tectonic evolution and metallogeny of the western *** paper presents new major and trace elements and Sr-Nd-Pb isotope data from the Dahalajunshan volcanic rocks,which are mainly calc-alkaline basaltic trachy-andesite and trachy-andesite with subordinate basalt,trachy-basalt and *** variations of major and trace elements in the mafic and intermediate volcanic rocks indicate the fractionation of pyroxene and magnetite or hornblende,magnetite,apatite and plagioclase,respectively,during their *** Dahalajunshan volcanic rocks have similar primitive mantle-normalized diagrams and chondrite-normalized rare-earth element(REE)patterns suggesting their similar mantle source(s).They are characterized by enrichment in large ion lithophile elements(LILEs)and light REEs(LREEs),depletion in heavy REEs(La/Yb≈2.80 to 9.59)and high field strength elements(HFSEs)andε(t)ranging from+1.2 to+6.0 atSr/Sr(t))=0.7047-0.7063 andPb/Pb=*** the geochemical and isotopic data indicate that the volcanic rocks were probably derived by low-degree melting of sub-arc lithospheric mantle modified by fluids in a continental arc *** obtained results,in conjunction with previous published data,allow us to suggest that the southward subduction of Junggar oceanic crust continued until the Late Carboniferous and was followed by a tectonic shift from continental arc to post-collisional extension environment.
