Dual-functional poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline)/poly(2-(dimethylamine)ethyl methacrylate)mixed brushes with switchable protein adsorption and antibacterial properties

Herein,binary mixed brushes consisting of poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline)(PMOXA)and poly(2-(dimethylamine)ethyl methacrylate)(PDMAEMA)with different chain lengths were fabricated by successive grafting of NH_(2)-terminated PMOXA and SH-terminated PDMAEMA onto polydopamine-anchored *** mixed-brush coating was characterized by variable-angle spectroscopic ellipsometry,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,zeta potential measurements,water contact angle,and atomic force *** mixed brushes showed tunable surface charge,wettability,and surface roughness,depending on the degree of PDMAEMA swelling under varying pH and ionic strength(Ⅰ).Then the adsorption behaviors of pepsin,bovine serum albumin(BSA),γ-globulin,and lysozyme,four very different proteins with regard to isoelectric point,on the mixed brushes coating were studied by using fluorescence microscopy and surface plasmon *** the chain length of PDMAEMA was about twice as long as PMOXA,the mixed brushes not only had high adsorption capacity for pepsin,BSA,and y-globulin but also had a desorption efficiency of 86.9%,87.1%,and 93.5%,*** is explained that electrostatic attraction between the protonated PDMAEMA and positively charged acidic proteins(pepsin and BSA,whose isoelectric points were below the pK_(a) of PDMAEMA)would drive the intensive adsorption(at pH 3,I=10^(-3)mol·L^(-1)for pepsin,and pH 5,I=10^(-5)mol·L^(-1)for BSA),while desorption was dominated by the hydrophilic PMOXA when PDMAEMA was shrinking(at pH 7,I=10^(-1)mol·L^(-1)for pepsin,and pH 9,I=10^(-1)mol·L^(-1)for BSA).Furthermore,the isoelectric precipitation led to the adsorption of neutral protein(γ-globulin,whose isoelectric point was near the pK_a of PDMAEMA)at pH 7,I=10^(-5)mol·L^(-1),while electrostatic repulsion and antifouling PMOXA triggered the desorption of y-globulin at pH 3,I-10^(-1)mol·L^(-1).However,alkaline protein(lysozyme,whose isoelectric point was higher than

Evaluation of transmission risk of respiratory particles under different ventilation strategies in an elevator

People in elevators are at risk of respiratory infection because the elevator cabin is crowded and has poor *** exhaled particles may be inhaled by the susceptible person,deposited on the surface and suspended in the elevator,which can result in direct and indirect ***,whether the air vent designs adopted in the elevator can effectively reduce the transmission risk of respiratory particles remains *** this study,the dispersion of particles under four common ventilation strategies used in the commercial elevator was investigated by proven computational fluid dynamics(CFD)*** flow field was simulated with the RNG κ-ξ turbulence model and the Lagrangian method was adopted to track particle *** effects of air vent layout and airflow rate on particle transmission were *** found that more than 50% of exhaled particles(average value)were suspended in the cabin and difficult to discharge under the investigated ventilation *** deposited fraction of particles on the susceptible person reached up to 39.14% for infiltration ventilation,which led to a high risk of contact *** the ventilation rate could not significantly reduce the inhalation proportion of particles due to the poor airflow distribution inside the elevator.A more proper ventilation strategy should be explored for the elevator to control transmission risk.

Synthetic aperture radar interferometry—based coseismic deformation and slip distribution of the 2022 Menyuan MS6.9 earthquake in Qinghai,China

On January 8,2022,a 6.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Menyuan County,Qinghai Province,with the epicenter located at the intersection of the Tuolaishan Fault and the Lenglongling Fault,which are part of the Qilian—Haiyuan fault *** study investigated the sliding characteristics and seismic mechanism of the earthquake to understand the activity and seismic risk of the fault on the northeastern margin of the Qinghai—Tibet *** paper analyzed Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar images to obtain the coseismic deformation field of the earthquake,which was then used to invert the slip distribution of the seismogenic fault and the coseismic Coulomb stress on the surrounding faults caused by the *** was found that the earthquake was primarily characterized by sinistral strike-slip *** the satellite line of sight,the south wall of the fault had a maximum deformation of 0.62 m,and the north wall had a maximum deformation of 0.48 *** coseismic slip distribution results indicated that the maximum slip of the earthquake was 4.51 m,and the moment magnitude was *** Coulomb stress analysis showed that the 2016 Menyuan earthquake promoted the occurrence of the 2022Menyuan earthquake.

The June 2022 Khost earthquake in southeastern Afghanistan:A complicated shallow slip event revealed with InSAR

On June 22,2022,the Mw6.2 earthquake in southeastern Afghanistan caused a severe *** used the Sentinel-1A ascending and descending track images of the European Space Agency and interferometric synthetic aperture radar(In SAR)to obtain the coseismic surface deformation field of the earthquake,which showed that the earthquake caused complex ruptures of multiple faults and various *** the dislocation model of the elastic half-space,we determined the focal parameters and slip distribution on the fault plane of this *** results reveal that:(1)the seismogenic fault of this event is an unknown fault on the northeastern edge of the Katawaz microblock;(2)The slip on the fault plane is mainly in the range of 0—8 km along the dip,with maximum slips about 2 m at a depth of 2 km,which projected on the surface is 69.44°E,32.96°*** event suggests that,similar to the Chaman,Ghazaband and other large faults,the faults inside the microblock also play an important role in adjusting for the collision stress between India and Europe.

Finite element simulation of stress change for the M_(S)7.4 Madoi earthquake and implications for regional seismic hazards

On May 22,2021,the M_(S)7.4 earthquake occurred in Madoi County,Qinghai Province;it was another strong event that occurred within the Bayan Har block after the Dari M_(S)7.7 earthquake in *** earthquake is bound to cast stress to the surrounding faults,thus affecting the regional seismic *** understand these issues,a three-dimensional viscoelastic finite element model of the eastern Bayan Har block and its adjacent areas was *** on the co-seismic rupture model of the Madoi earthquake,we analyzed the co-and postseismic Coulomb stress change caused by the Madoi earthquake on the surrounding major *** results show that the Madoi earthquake caused significant co-seismic stress increases in the Tuosuo Lake and Maqin-Maqu segments of the East Kunlun fault(>10 kPa),which exceeded the proposed threshold of stress *** integrating the accumulation rate of the inter-seismic tectonic stress,we conclude that the Madoi earthquake caused future strong earthquakes in the Tuosuo Lake and Maqin-Maqu segments of the East Kunlun fault to advance by 55.6-623 and 24.7-123 a,*** with the influence of the Madoi earthquake and the elapsed time of the last strong earthquake,these two segments have approached or even exceeded the recurrence interval of the fault prescribed by previous *** the future,it is necessary to focus greater attention on the seismic hazard of the Maqin-Maqu and Tuosuo Lake *** study provides a mechanical reference to understand the seismic hazard of the East Kunlun fault in the future,particularly to determine the seismic potential region.

Scientific research on deep in situ resources is highly important to the theory and technology system construction for deep in-situ resource *** obtain high-condition preserved core samples,it is vital to maintain the original material,humidity and luminous flux information inside the ***,this study proposes a research and development strategy for a high-toughness and highbarrier sealing film based on the molecular structure design and filler synergistic enhancement via a deep solid-state sealing film using in situ substance preservation(ISP),in situ moisture preservation(IMP)and in situ light preservation(ILP)coring principles.A graphene/epoxy composite sealing film with a high barrier,high strength and high toughness was *** oxygen permeability of the film was 0.23 cm^(3)/(m^(2)·d),the water vapor permeability was 1.26 g/(m^(2)·d),and the light transmittance was *** tensile strength reached 15.4 MPa,and the toughness was 5242.9 kJ/m^(3).The results from the film substance and moisture preservation performance verification experiments showed that the sealing film had an excellent sealing effect on small molecules,such as water,alkanes and even ions,which further verified that the sealing film greatly contributed to the maintenance and preservation of deep in-situ resource reserves and abundance.

Kilometer-resolution three-dimensional crustal deformation of Tibetan Plateau from InSAR and GNSS

Located at the forefront of the collision between the Indian and Eurasian Plates,the Tibetan Plateau experiences intense crustal *** ground-based geodetic monitoring,such as GNSS and leveling,is challenging,due to factors such as high altitude and harsh climate,making it difficult to accurately determine a high-resolution crustal deformation field of the *** by ground observation conditions,InSAR technique has key advantages for obtaining extensive and high-resolution crustal deformation *** makes it indispensable for crustal deformation monitoring on the Tibetan *** study used Sentinel-1 data from 2014 to 2020 to compute the ascending and descending InSAR deformation fields for the Tibetan *** was conducted with a measurement accuracy of approximately 3 mm/*** upon this,we integrated InSAR and GNSS data to yield kilometer-resolution three-dimensional(3D)crustal deformation and strain rate fields for the Tibetan Plateau.A spherical wavelet analysis was used to decompose the 3D deformation field and separate the nontectonic crustal deformation to increase the strength of the tectonic deformation ***-wavelength(110 km)deformation mainly results from subsidence in the central plateau and uplifts along the Himalayan *** indicates that the Tibetan Plateau may have stopped the entire uplift and entered a local collapse ***,the deformation fields at different spatial scales reveal that the plateau exhibits discontinuous deformation in short wavelengths and continuous deformation in long *** findings of this study contribute to resolving the controversy between the Block and Continuum Deformation models of the Tibetan Plateau.

Measurement of electric properties of the single supersaturated aerosol droplet

A system for measuring the electric properties of single aerosol droplet is designed and applied to the NaClO4 aerosol droplet in different relative humidity (RH). The conductance and capacitance are ob-tained within the whole RH range, especially in the supersaturated state which cannot be acquired from the bulk solution. These results reflect the situation of ions in the droplet macroscopically and supply useful information for other relative study fields, such as crystallogeny and aerography.

Study on Postseismic Impact of Wenchuan Earthquake on the Sichuan-Yunnan Region Based on Three-Dimensional Viscoelastic Finite Element Method

Based on the lateral segmentation and vertical stratification characteristics of the crustal medium in Sichuan-Yunnan region,and the asymmetry of the static dislocations on the coseismic fault plane of the Wenchuan M_S8.0 earthquake,we built a three-dimensional viscoelastic finite element model of the crust in the Sichuan-Yunnan *** postseismic impact of the Wenchuan M_S8.0 earthquake on the Sichuan-Yunnan region was *** results show that:①The far-field horizontal deformation caused by the viscoelastic relaxation of the medium in the 10 years after the earthquake is about 0-20 mm within the Sichuan-Yunnan diamond-shaped block,which has a greater influence on north side and smaller on south side.②In the 10 years after the earthquake,the far-field vertical deformation caused by the viscoelastic relaxation effect of the medium is small,and it shows an increase of about 0-4 mm in most areas of the Sichuan-Yunnan diamond-shaped block.③The Xianshuihe fault and the eastern segment of the East Kunlun fault,which are close to the seismogenic fault,show a high gradient on deformation fields after the earthquake.④In order to compare with the strong earthquake activity in the SichuanYunnan region after the Wenchuan earthquake,the horizontal stress state and the Coulomb failure stress change of the active block boundary are also *** the spatial distribution of the coseismic and postseismic displacement field,the fault activity characteristics reflected by the stress state and the stress loading of the fault layer reflected by the Coulomb failure stress change,there is a certain correlation with the spatial distribution of strong earthquake activity in this region.

Electrochemical CO_(2) mineralization for red mud treatment driven by hydrogen-cycled membrane electrolysis

CO_(2)mineralization as a promising CO_(2)mitigation strategy can employ industrial alkaline solid wastes to achieve net emission reduction of atmospheric CO_(2).The red mud is a strong alkalinity waste residue produced from the aluminum industry by the Bayer process which has the potential for the industrial CO_(2)large scale ***,limited by complex components of red mud and harsh operating conditions,it is challenging to directly mineralize CO_(2)using red mud to recover carbon and sodium resources and to produce mineralized products simultaneously with high economic value ***,we propose a novel electrochemical CO_(2)mineralization strategy for red mud treatment driven by hydrogen-cycled membrane electrolysis,realizing mineralization of CO_(2)efficiently and recovery of carbon and sodium resources with economic *** system utilizes H_(2)as the redox-active proton carrier to drive the cathode and anode to generate OH^(-) and H^(+) at low voltage,*** H^(+) plays as a neutralizer for the alkalinity of red mud and the OH^(-) is used to mineralize CO_(2)into generate highpurity NaHCO_(3)*** verify that the system can effectively recover carbon and sodium resources in red mud treatment process,which shows that the average electrolysis efficiency is 95.3%with highpurity(99.4%)NaHCO_(3)product *** low electrolysis voltage of 0.453 V is achieved at10 mA·cm^(-2) in this system indicates a potential low energy consumption industrial ***,we successfully demonstrate that this process has the ability of direct efficient mineralization of flue gas CO_(2)(15%volume)without extra capturing,being a novel potential strategy for carbon neutralization.
