Diversity of Mesozoic tin-bearing granites in the Nanling and adjacent regions,South China:Distinctive mineralogical patterns

The Nanling and adjacent regions of South China host a series of tin deposits related to Mesozoic granites with diverse petrological characteristics. The rocks are amphibole-bearing biotite granites, or （topaz-） albite-lepidolite （zinnwaldite） granites, and geochemically correspond to mealuminous and peraluminous types, respectively. Mineralogical studies demonstrate highly distinctive and critical patterns for each type of granites. In mealuminous tin granites amphibole, biotite and perthite are the typical rock-forming mineral association; titanite and magnetite are typical accessory minerals, indicating highjO2 magmatic conditions; cassiterite, biotite and titanite are the principal Sn-bearing minerals; and pure cassiterite has low trace-element contents. However, in peraluminous tin granites zirmwaldite-lepidolite, K-feldspar and albite are typical rock-forming minerals; topaz is a common accessory phase, indicative of high peraluminity of this type of granites; cassiterite is present as a uniquely important tin mineral, typically rich in Nb and Ta. Mineralogical distinction between the two types of tin granites is largely controlled by redox state, volatile content and differentiation of magmatic melts. In oxidized metaluminous granitic melts, Sn4＋ is readily concentrated in Ti-bearing rock-forming and accessory minerals. Such Sn-bearing minerals are typical of oxidized tin granites, and are enriched in granites at the late fractionation stage. In relatively reduced peraluminous granitic melts, Sn2＋ is not readily incorporated into rock-forming and accessory minerals, except for cassiterite at fractionation stage of granite magma, which serves as an indicator of tin mineralization associated with this type of granites. The nature of magma and the geochemical behavior of tin in the two types of granites thus result in the formation of different types of tin deposits. Origin of Li-F-rich granite: Evidence from high P-T experiments

Though magmatic origin of Li-F-rich granite has been supported effectively by the existence of volcanic and subvolcanic rocks and melt inclusions trapped in them with similar chemical compositions, evidence from high T-P experiments is poor up to now. To simulate the evolution process of Li-F-rich granite and to interpret its forming mechanism, a series of melting-crystallization experiments were carried out. Under the conditions of 1×108 Pa and 570–700°C, a magmatic mineral association of quartz + alkali feldspar + lithium muscovite/ferromuscovite ± fluorite ± cassiterite is found in leucogranite-HF-H2O system. This indicates the following points: (i) Fluorite, light-colored muscovite and cassiterite can crystallize directly from the Li-F-rich granitic melt. (ii) The coexistence of dark-colored micas (e.g. biotite) and light-colored micas (e.g. lithium muscovite and ferromuscovite) suggests that the muscovite granite and two-mica granite can be formed under magmatic condition. The zonal texture of micas is not the sole feature for the micas of hydrothermal origin. (iii) As crystallization proceeds, the SiO2 concentration of the residual melt decreases, while the Al2O3 and F concentrations and A/CNK, NKA/Si ratios of the melt incerese, favoring the formation of Li-F-rich granites. Our experiment results are well consistent with the vertical zonation widely observed in rare metal bearing granites, and therefore provide strong experimental evidence for magmatic origin of Li-F-rich granite.

Petrogenesis of the concealed Daqiling intrusion in Guangxi and its tectonic significance: Constraints from geochemistry, zircon U-Pb dating and Nd-Hf isotopic compositions

The samples from the hidden Daqiling muscovite monzonite granite, which has recently been recognized within the Limu Sn-polymetallic ore field, have been analyzed for zircon U-Pb ages and whole rock geochemical and Nd-Hf isotopic compositions to discuss its genesis, source, and tectonic setting. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating indicates that the granite crystallized in the late Indosinian（224.8±1.6 Ma）. The granite is enriched in SiO2 and K2 O and low in CaO and Na2 O. It is strongly peraluminous with the A/CNK values of 1.09–1.20 and 1.4 vol%–2.7 vol% normal corundum. Chondrite-normalized REE patterns show slightly right-dipping shape with strongly negative Eu anomalies（δEu =0.08–0.17）. All samples show enrichment of LILEs（Cs, Rb and K） and HFSEs（U, Pb, Ce and Hf）, but have relatively low contents of Ba, Sr and Ti. The zircon saturation temperatures（Tzr） are from 711 to 740°C, which are slightly lower than the average value of typical S-type granite（764°C）. The granite has negative εNd（t） and εHf（t） values, which change from ？9.1 to ？10.1 with the peak values of ？9.2 to ？9.0 and from ？3.7 to ？12.6 with the peak values of ？6 to ？5, respectively. The C DMT（Nd） and C DMT（Hf） values are 1.74–1.82 Ga with the peak values of 1.73–1.75 Ga and 1.49–2.04 Ga with the peak values of 1.5–1.6 Ga, respectively. These characteristics reveal that the source region of the granite is dominantly late Paleoproterozoic to early Mesoproterozoic crustal materials. Seven inherited magmatic zircons are dated at the age of 248.6±4.3 Ma, which suggests the existence of the early Indosinian granite in Limu area. These zircons have the εHf（t） values of ？6.7– ？2.3, similar to those of the Daqiling granite, implying the involvement of the early Indosinian granite during the formation of the Daqiling granite. Inherited zircon of 945±11 Ma has the εHf（t） and TDM（Hf） values of 8.7 and 1.14 Ga, respectively, compatible with those of the Neoproterozoic arc magmatic rocks in the eastern Jiangnan orogenic

Primary Sn-rich titianite in the Qitianling granite, Hunan Province, southern China: An important type of tin-bearing mineral and its implications for tin exploration

The Qitianling calc-alkaline granite in Hunan Province (South China) has attracted much attention since the discovery of the Furong super-large tin deposit. The present study provides new mineralogical data to address their implications for exploration of tin deposits. In the Taoxiwo granite in the southeastern part of the Qitianling granite body, Sn-rich titanite was identified as an important type of Sn-bearing mineral. The titanite commonly occurs with biotite as euhedral crystals, exhibiting typical envelope-like shape and sector-zoning texture. These indicate that the titanite most likely crystallized in the mag-matic stage. Electron-microprobe analyses show that the titanite is enriched in tin up to 1.12 wt% SnO2, with an average of 0.43 wt%. With the crystallization of the granite, primary minerals undertook hydro-thermal alteration by magma-derived fluids. Subsequently, in the hydrothermal stage, the primary Sn-bearing titanite was altered (at least partially), but still preserved its typical envelope-shaped outline. Micro-scale cassiterite is a representative product of such alteration; other secondary minerals include fluorite, ilmenite, Sn-bearing rutile and quartz. Therefore, the titanite, commonly present in the calc- alkaline granites, can be treated as an important Sn-carrying mineral in the Qitianling granite, reflecting the primary magmatic environment with tin enrichment. The hydrothermal alteration of the primary titanite and subsequent crystallization of cassiterite recorded a process of leaching and accumulation of tin in magmatic-hydrothermal evolution of the Snbearing granite. Thus, this titanite has important implications for tin exploration.

Experimental study on crystallization kinetics of alkali feldspar under high T-P conditions

In the granite-NaF-H2O system, there exists a nucleation lag in the course of alkali feldspar crystallization indicated by experiments on crystallization kinetics. The nucleation lag time is about 18 h at 700℃ and about 6 h at 650℃.nucleation rate and crystal-growth rate of alkali feldspar are not constant during the crystallization process, but vary with crystallization time. Here we suggest that the lag time should be taken into account in the calculation formula of nucleation rate and crystal-growth rate to obtain more reliable parameters.

Multiple-aged granitoids and related tungsten-tin mineralization in the Nanling Range, South China

The Nanling metallogenic belt in South China is characterized by well-developed tungsten-tin mineralization related to multi- ple-aged granitoids. This belt is one of the 5 key prospecting and exploration areas among the 19 important metallogenic tar- gets in China. Important progress has been made in recent years in understanding the Nanling granitoids and associated miner- alization, and this paper introduces the latest major findings as follows：（1） there exists a series of Caledonian, Indosinian, and Yanshanian W-Sn-bearing granites; （2） the Sn-bearing Yanshanian granites in the Nanling Range form an NE-SW trending aluminous A-type granite belt that stretches over 350 km. The granites typically belong to the magnetite series, and dioritic micro-granular enclaves with mingling features are very common; （3） the Early Yanshanian Sn- and W-bearing granites pos- sess different petrological and geochemical features to each other： most Sn-bearing granites are metaluminous to weakly per- aluminous biotite （hornblende） granites, with zircon tHe（t） values of ca. -2 to -8, whereas most W-bearing granites are peralu- minous two-mica granites or muscovite granites with CHf（t） values of ca. -8 to -12; （4） based on the petrology and geochemis- try of the W-Sn-bearing granites, mineralogical studies have shown that common minerals such as titanite, magnetite, and bio- tite may be used as indicators for discriminating the mineralizing potential of the Sn-bearing granites. Similarly, W-bearing minerals such as wolframite may indicate the mineralizing potential of the W-bearing granites. Future studies should be fo- cused on examining the internal relationships between the multiple-aged granites in composite bodies, the metallogenic pecu- liarities of multiple-aged W-Sn-bearing granites, the links between melt evolution and highly evolved ore-bearing felsic dykes, and the connections between granite domes and mineralization.

Classification and Source Materials of Continental Crust Transformation Series Granitoids in South China

The granitoids of the continental crust transformation series in South China may be divided into threetypes: (1) synorogenic migmatic and magmatic type. (2) anorogenic continental crust anatexis type, and (3)syncollision type. Based on the results of Sr and Nd isotopic determinations, the source material compositionof the three types of granitoids is calculated with crust-mantle binary mixing simulation. The calculations indi-cate that the granitoids of the first type consist of 78.6-89.7% upper crust endmember materials and15.0-10.3% depleted mantle endmember materials, the granitoids of the second type are composed of 63.7%upper crust endmember materials and 36.3% depleted mantle endmember materials, and those of the third type100% upper crust endmember materials. Hence. the source material composition of the granitoids of all thethree types is dominated by upper crust endmembers.

Zircon U-Pb dating confirms existence of a Caledonian scheelite-bearing aplitic vein in the Penggongmiao granite batholith, South Hunan

Granite at Penggongmiao is a large batholith in the Nanling Range, with an outcrop area of over 900 km 2 . There are many scheelite-quartz veins around the granite. LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating was carried out for zircons from the granite. The middlecoarse-grained biotite granite has U-Pb ages of 435 to 436 Ma. Ages of 426.5±2.5 Ma were obtained for aplitic dyke cross-cutting the granite. The scheelite of magmatic origin in the aplite dyke was identified from petrographic investigation. This demonstrates that W-bearing granites of Early Paleozoic (corresponding to the Caledonian orogensis in the traditional sense) occur in the Nanling Range. This finding has important implications for the ore-forming potential of Paleozoic granites and on the extent of Mesozoic mineralization. Thus it merits performing an intensive study of Paleozoic granites in South China. The occurrences of aplite or microgranite may be an indicative of the Caledonian tungsten granites and associated W mineralization.

Sr, Nd and O Isotopic Studies on the Genesis of the Huashan Granite Complex

Systematical Sr, Nd and O isotopic studies were made on the Huashan granite complex in Guangxi. Incombination with the studies of geological, petrological and geochemical data, it is believed that the complexconsists of granites of three stages. with different geneses and different source materials. They are not the prod-ucts of differentiation and evolution of one single consanguineous magma. Granites of the 1st stage are of theIndosinian syntectic type or I type, also derived from a mixed mantle-crustal source. Those of the 2nd stage areof the early Yanshanian syntectic type or I type. also derived from a mixed mantle-crustal source, and those ofthe 3rd stage are of the late Yanshanian transformed type or S type. derived from a crustal source.

Hf isotopic composition of zircons from the Huashan-Guposhan intrusive complex and their mafic enclaves in northeastern Guangxi:Implication for petrogenesis

High precision zircon U-Pb dating indicates that main intrusive bodies (Tong'an,Niumiao,Huashan,Lisong),and a mafic microgranular enclave in the Huashan-Guposhan complex were formed at 160-163 *** εHf(t) values of zircons from the Huashan granite vary from -2.8 to +0.3 and those from the Lisong granite vary from -2.3 to +0.3,which are obviously different with those values (+2.6 to +7.4) of the mafic enclaves from the Lisong *** Hf isotopic data indicate that the mafic enclaves and host granites were crystallized from different sources of magmas,providing evidence for mafic-felsic magma mixing *** highest εHf(t) value of zircons from the mafic enclaves is up to +7.4,indicating that the mafic magma was originated from a relatively depleted mantle *** on regional geology and the contemporaneous mafic and alkaline rocks in this area indicate that the mafic magma was not originated from reworking of basaltic juvenile crust,but from partial melting of the ***,it remains to be resolved whether the mafic magma was derived from partial melting of the asthenosphere or the lithospheric *** Huashan granite and the Lisong granite were formed from hybrid magma of mantle-derived and crust-derived magmas,and the mafic enclaves are considered as remains of mantle-derived magma during mixing *** εHf(t) values of zircons from the Niumiao diorite vary from -1.1 to +2.1,and those from the Tong'an quartz monzonite vary from -1.7 to +*** values are lower than those from the mafic enclaves,suggesting that the diorite and monzonite were formed from different source-derived magmas with the mafic *** εHf(t) values for the Niumiao diorite and the Tong'an monzonite are only slightly higher than those for the Hushan granite and the Lisong *** mafic enclaves also occur in the Niumiao diorite and in the Tong'an ***,we suggest that the Niumiao diorite and the Tong'an monzonite were probably also for
