Ecological effect of the plantation of Sabina vulgaris in the Mu Us Sandy Land,china

Vegetation restoration through artificial plantation is an effective method to combat desertification,especially in arid and semi-arid *** study aimed to explore the ecological effect of the plantation of Sabina vulgaris on soil physical and chemical properties on the southeastern fringe of the Mu Us Sandy Land,*** collected soil samples from five depth layers(0-20,20-40,40-60,60-80,and 80-100 cm)in the *** plantation plots across four plantation ages(4,7,10,and 16 years)in November 2019,and assessed soil physical(soil bulk density,soil porosity,and soil particle size)and chemical(soil organic carbon(SOc),total nitrogen(TN),available nitrogen(AN),available phosphorus(AP),available potassium(AK),cation-exchange capacity(cEc),salinity,p H,and c/N ratio)*** results indicated that the soil predominantly consisted of sand particles(94.27%-99.67%),with the remainder being silt and *** plantation age increased,silt and very fine sand contents progressively *** 16 years of planting,there was a marked reduction in the mean soil particle *** initial soil fertility was low and declined from 4 to 10 years of planting before witnessing an *** positive correlations were observed for the clay,silt,and very fine sand(mean diameter of 0.000-0.100 mm)with SOc,AK,and p *** contrast,fine sand and medium sand(mean diameter of 0.100-0.500 mm)showed significant negative correlations with these *** findings ascertain that the plantation of *** requires 10 years to effectively act as a windbreak and contribute to sand fixation,and needs 16 years to improve soil physical and chemical ***,these improvements were found to be highly beneficial for vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid *** research can offer valuable insights for the protection and restoration of the vegetation ecosystem in the sandy lands in china.

Effect of drying cracks on swelling and self-healing of bentonite-sand blocks used as engineered barriers for radioactive waste disposal

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the healing of drying cracks in air-dried bentonite-sand blocks after hydration and swelling in groundwater,providing justifications to simplify the protection of blocks prior to installation in a high-level radioactive waste *** groundwater was prepared to represent the geochemistry of Beishan groundwater,and was used to hydrate the blocks during the swelling pressure and swelling strain measurements,as Beishan is the most promising site for china's *** of the surface cracks was recorded by photography,and healing of the internal cracks was visualized by cT images and hydraulic conductivity of air-dried *** results indicate that the maximum swelling pressure and swelling strain are primarily affected by the geochemistry of Beishan groundwater,but not affected by the drying *** maximum swelling pressure and swelling strain of air-dried blocks are comparable to or even higher than the pressure and strain of fresh *** maximum swelling pressure measured in strong(*** ion strength)Beishan groundwater was 44%of the pressure measured in deionized(DI)water,and the maximum swelling strain was reduced to 23%of the strain measured in DI ***,the remained swelling of the blocks hydrated in strong Beishan groundwater was sufficient to heal the surface and internal drying cracks,as demonstrated by the pictures of surface cracks and cT *** hydraulic conductivity of the air-dried block permeated with strong groundwater was comparable(3.7×higher)to the hydraulic conductivity of the fresh block,indicating the self-healing of drying cracks after hydration and swelling in groundwater.A simplified method of protecting the block with plastic wraps before installation is recommended,since the remained swelling of the block hydrated in Beishan groundwater is sufficient to heal the drying cracks.

Ectomycorrhizal fungi and dark septate endophyte inoculation improve growth and tolerance of Pinus tabulaeformis under cadmium stress

Forest trees can establish symbiotic associations with dark septate endophytes(DSEs)and ectomycorrhizal fungi(EcMF)***,the combined effects of these two fungi on the growth and cadmium(cd)tolerance of host plants remain largely *** address this knowledge gap,a pot experiment was conducted to examine the effects of the interaction between an EcMF strain(Suillus granulatus)and a DSE strain(Pseudopyrenochaeta sp.)on Pinus tabulaeformis under cd stress,by assessing plant growth and physiological parameters,nutrient uptake,and soil ***,the colonization rates of both fungal strains were found to increase in response to cd stress,with the extent of this increase being influenced by the specific fungal species and the cd level in the *** to the non-inoculation treatment,single inoculation with fungal strain resulted in enhanced biomass,root development,and nutrient contents in *** seedlings under cd ***,a synergistic effect was observed when these seedlings were co-inoculated with *** and Pseudopyrenochaeta sp.,as indicated by significantly greater measurements in various indicators compared to both the single and non-inoculation *** inoculation effectively regulated the antioxidant defense responses and photosynthesis of *** seedlings subjected to cd stress,particularly in the co-inoculation *** addition,fungal inoculation facilitated the cd accumulation in ***,suggesting a promising potential for the implementation of bioremediation strategies in the areas contaminated with heavy *** findings from this study indicate that the utilization of root symbiotic fungi obtained from stress environments could potentially enhance the growth performance and tolerance of *** towards heavy metals,and co-inoculation of both fungal groups may result in even more pronounced synergistic effects on the overall fitness of the plant.

Progressive fragmentation of granular assemblies within rockslides: Insights from discrete-continuous numerical modeling

Rock fragmentation plays a critical role in rock avalanches,yet conventional approaches such as classical granular flow models or the bonded particle model have limitations in accurately characterizing the progressive disintegration and kinematics of multi-deformable rock blocks during *** present study proposes a discrete-continuous numerical model,based on a cohesive zone model,to explicitly incorporate the progressive fragmentation and intricate interparticle interactions inherent in *** rock granular assemblies are released along an inclined plane and flow onto a horizontal *** numerical scenarios are established to incorporate variations in slope angle,initial height,friction coefficient,and particle *** evolutions of fragmentation,kinematic,runout and depositional characteristics are quantitatively analyzed and compared with experimental and field data.A positive linear relationship between the equivalent friction coefficient and the apparent friction coefficient is *** general,the granular mass predominantly exhibits characteristics of a dense granular flow,with the Savage number exhibiting a decreasing trend as the volume of mass *** process of particle breakage gradually occurs in a bottom-up manner,leading to a significant increase in the angular velocities of the rock blocks with increasing *** simulation results reproduce the field observations of inverse grading and source stratigraphy preservation in the *** propose a disintegration index that incorporates factors such as drop height,rock mass volume,and rock *** findings demonstrate a consistent linear relationship between this index and the fragmentation degree in all tested scenarios.

Underwater Image classification Based on EfficientnetB0 and Two-Hidden-Layer Random Vector Functional Link

The ocean plays an important role in maintaining the equilibrium of Earth’s ecology and providing humans access to a wealth of *** obtain a high-precision underwater image classification model,we propose a classification model that combines an EfficientnetB0 neural network and a two-hidden-layer random vector functional link network(EfficientnetB0-TRVFL).The features of underwater images were extracted using the EfficientnetB0 neural network pretrained via ImageNet,and a new fully connected layer was trained on the underwater image dataset using the transfer learning *** learning ensures the initial performance of the network and helps in the development of a high-precision classification ***,a TRVFL was proposed to improve the classification property of the *** construction of the two hidden layers exhibited a high accuracy when the same hidden layer nodes were *** parameters of the second hidden layer were obtained using a novel calculation method,which reduced the outcome error to improve the performance instability caused by the random generation of parameters of ***,the TRVFL classifier was used to classify features and obtain classification *** proposed EfficientnetB0-TRVFL classification model achieved 87.28%,74.06%,and 99.59%accuracy on the MLc2008,MLc2009,and Fish-gres datasets,*** best convolutional neural networks and existing methods were stacked up through box plots and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests,*** increases imply improved systematization properties in underwater image classification *** image classification model offers important performance advantages and better stability compared with existing methods.

Spatial and Temporal Differences of climate Suitability of Ice and Snow Sports in Major Ski Tourism Destinations in china

Ice and snow tourism in china has grown significantly since the country successfully hosted the Beijing Winter *** conditions profoundly impact the development of ice and snow tourism;however,most studies have focused on constructing different climate suitability indicators for ice and snow tourism to evaluate individual regions,lacking horizontal comparative studies across multiple *** study aims to enrich the connotation of climate suitability for ice and snow sports,establish an evaluation model based on snowfall amount,temperature,and wind speed,and use daily meteorological data from 1991 to 2021 to horizontally compare the climate suitability for ice and snow sports in major ski tourism destinations in *** study boasts four major findings:1)the average ice and snow sports climate index of each region decreases over time,and the overall suitability of the climate for ice and snow sports is reducing;2)northern Xinjiang exhibits the most evident regional differentiation from‘very suitable’to‘generally suitable’;3)the spatial zoning of climate suitability for ice and snow sports exhibits heterogeneity,as northern Xinjiang is divided into two‘suitable and above’zones with rotating empirical orthogonal function(REOF).correspondingly,the four provinces of Hebei,Heilongjiang,Jilin,and Liaoning are divided into three‘generally suitable and above’zones;4)snowfall amount is the main factor affecting the climate suitability of ice and snow sports in the major ski tourist destinations in china.

Atomic-scale mechanism of effect of co-separation of elements at interface of ferrite and austenite on cr-depleted zone of duplex stainless steel

Three-dimensional atom-probe tomography and first-principles calculation combined with density functional theory were used to study the effect of the co-segregation of different elements formed during the solidification process of S32205 duplex stainless steel on the cr-depleted zone at the interface between ferrite and *** was found that the co-segregation of different elements formed during the solidification process of duplex stainless steel can also form cr-depleted zone at the interface between ferrite and ***,Mo,Si,B,c and P atoms promote co-segregation with cr atoms,which promotes the formation of cr-depleted zone at the interface between ferrite and austenite in duplex stainless *** and Si strongly promote the segregation of cr at the interface between ferrite and austenite,thereby promoting the formation of cr-depleted zone.B,c and P elements also promote the segregation of cr element at the interface between ferrite and austenite and the formation of cr-depleted zone,but their effect is weaker than that of Mo and Si *** conclusions provide a new theoretical basis for improving the intergranular corrosion performance of duplex stainless steel.

An improved deviation model for transonic stages in axial compressors
